RACCONTO NUMERO TRE ED ULTIMA PARTE: In savana la sera non c'è molto da fare, tutto è illuminato quasi a giorno nei periodi di luna piena, il cielo stellato rende le serate magiche attorno al fuoco, nel sottofondo si sentono in lontananza le iene ululare e i nostri otto cani rispondono in coro abbaiando. Sentendo la iena i guerrieri maasai si allertano, iniziano a spostarsi con le torce dirigendosi verso i cespugli, controllano il recinto delle mucche e delle caprette, si assicurano che tutto sia chiuso bene e che il bestiame stia al sicuro. Una notte, come già vi abbiamo raccontato, abbiamo avuto la visita di un branco di iene, si sono sbranate ben diciassette caprette! I cani abbaiavano e ringhiavano, ma probabilmente erano tante poiché sono scappati rientrando a casa solo diversi giorni dopo, non essendo stati in grado di combatterle si sono dati alla fuga. Da quell'orribile ricordo, sento mio marito alzarsi ogni qualvolta i cani abbaiano e lo fa anche più volte durante la notte. Qualche mucca ogni tanto riesce ad aprirsi il recinto circondato da rami spinati autonomamente così facendo strada a tutte le altre, si ode il suono delle campane che portano al collo passare vicino a casa. Sorrido e penso; ma dove andranno a quest'ora? Se ne vanno a pascolare da sole rientrando al mattino sempre da sole nonostante l'assidua presenza delle iene ma le mucche non sono in pericolo, alla iena piace la capretta. Ormai si era fatto tardi, eravamo tutti stanchi, ci salutiamo con un "raga siday" (buona notte in lingua maa) e andiamo tutti a dormire.
