haha guys it’s not that im pushing for heteronormativity i swear i just think it’s problematic to have more characters come out late in the game other than the designated gay side characters haha not because i think main characters shouldn't be gay or because it makes me uncomfortable when gay characters don’t come with a designated partner and instead of staying confined to their part of the story experience desire in many directions it’s just because it is queerbaiting! to make new characters gay! somehow! or fetishistic! or something! but it is not okay! but i swear im not pushing for a heteronormative story i swear it’s just that i think it’s cowardly to not make the characters end up all in their respective monogamous relationships and instead portray a more realistic idea where they can be with more than one person and their relationships can change during their lifetimes and they still hold love for each other in a way that is not limited to traditional romantic models haha. because you know you can’t end the story without telling me how your characters straight marry each other and have kids haha that’s just a cop out to avoid a real ending even if you tell me your characters’ lives to the day they died. yeah no it’s not heteronormative to consider classic endgames the only form of closed ending because i would support the designated lesbian and gay ship also getting married and having kids haha. what do you mean your story has been poking fun at the concept of endgame the entire time dont be silly haha

Did they actually make Jeronica canon, or was it a dream sequence? I know they kissed in a hot tub at one point.
There was the hot tub, but in season 7 (after they all travel back in time to the fifties to become high schoolers again and lose all their memories due to a magic comet hitting Riverdale and pushing them back in time while erasing their magical powers that they'd had after a bomb blew up yes this is really the plot) Jughead and Veronica became friends, got together for an episode but then broke up, and then at one point got together again as a firm couple, and then as we all know, in the last episode Archie and Betty and Veronica and Jughead became A Quad so Barchie, Bughead, Beronica, and Jeronica were also canon (but not Jarchie, specifically not Jarchie, men can fetishize wlw relationships but not mlm so no Jarchie).

Dumb question but your replies to asks are my favorites on this whole site, so I wanted to send an ask! Here it is: are there ships that you thought you'd love based on gifs but ended up not really liking once you saw them on tv or in youtube videos? For me one of them is Brulian. I kept hearing what an adorkable cutie Julian was and loved how happy Brooke looked in their gifsets but then when I actually saw them I just thought the chemistry was forced, Julian was a TOTALLY different character his first two seasons on the show and a lot less likable initially, and the acting and writing just didn't work for me? I expected them to be an otp but ended up meh at best on them! And I thought I'd ship Barchie because they're an iconic comic book couple, I'm much more of a Betty than Veronica personally lol, and their gifsets are gorgeous, but then when I watched the show I'm like, no, Varchie and Bughead are meant to be imo and Barchie doesn't do it for me at all. And one final example - Piper/Leo from Charmed. They're adorable in their gifsets, but it turns out the gifsets highlight literally the only times they're remotely happy?! Post-S1 Piper is perpetually angry, critical and miserable, she complains and snaps at everyone (especially Leo) every minute, Leo is so flat and personality-free, and their chemistry and connection are just lacking to me no matter how many times the show tells me their love is epic :) I can't wait to read your choices!
I don't think it's a dumb question! You're seriously sweet. <3 I feel like I'm really bad at replying to asks, so I'm glad you think that LOL
I think I might have to slightly alter this question to mean ships that I'd heard of, period, or had seen advertised and believed I'd end up shipping only to end up either disliking or feeling neutral towards. I only say that because for the past few years, I've really tried to keep an open mind when starting new shows so that I wouldn't go in with any preconceived ideas about what couples I'd root for.
Those are all interesting examples!
So when it comes to Brulian, I kind of agree. That being said, I did ship them the first time I watched season 6 and for the first half of season 7. But eventually, I was turned off by the Brooke/Julian/Alex arc. While I understand Brooke's LP trauma continuing to haunt her years later, it was just frustrating to watch it all play out again and for Brooke to devolve back into the most insecure version of herself. In some ways, I actually prefer Julian with Alex over Brooke. I still love the idea of them and think they had sweet moments, but their relationship never hit the same way Brucas did. It's an acceptable endgame for Brooke, but it will always kind of feel like second best. I'm sure that's an unpopular opinion, but oh well. I didn't force Chad and Sophia to have such strong chemistry or make the writers execute their seasons 2 and 3 arc so well.
Funny you should mention Barchie, because I had a similar experience in some ways. To be clear, I never read Archie Comics, but I vaguely knew some of the basics. The week Riverdale premiered, I'd been talking to a friend who rooted for BA in the comics and was excited to see Riverdale's take on their relationship. So, I watched the pilot episode to see what it was all about. I guess I shipped Betty and Archie then? But only in the sense that for the first couple of episodes, I was honestly cool with any outcome except Veronica/Jughead. That changed very, very quickly. Pre-Bughead, I was all about Beronica. Archie in contrast just wasn't as compelling to me and seemed to have a revolving door of love interests - something I'd heard was also somewhat the case in the comics. In the long run, BA became a good representation of everything I hate in a fictional couple. Their relationship is one of the laziest things I've ever seen. I truly mean that. Their fans did almost 100% of the work trying to piece that shit together because the writers were NOT writing a slow burn. The Riverdale writers seemed to deliberately avoid kicking off a story arc with any awareness of how it was going to end. The sad excuse for off screen, pre-series childhood anecdotes replacing any true development from episodes 103-416 didn't impress me. I hated watching Betty slowly sacrifice everything she wanted for her life just so she could conform into being Archie's ideal woman as he sacrificed absolutely nothing in return or ever once showed he had any true understanding of Betty. She needed extensive therapy, not the golden boy's dick. Anyways. Bughead forever, Varchie over BA because at least effort was put into that relationship.
As for Leo/Piper, you make some points, but I have to disagree. I can't help it. They were my favorite couple on Charmed. That being said, I acknowledge there was a lot of unnecessary angst, particularly during the later seasons. Leo's actor, Brian Krause, was also incredibly weak and nowhere near as talented as the women on the show.
Now, on to my answers. I already explained my history with BA, so I'll skip that one.
Bangel and Spuffy - Buffy the Vampire Slayer: I'd heard positive things about both couples, so I had no clue going in which I would end up shipping. As it turns out, the answer was neither. The Buffy/Angel arc was fine for a while, but at a certain point Angel was just kind of there. As much as I liked the guy, their romance was one of my least favorite aspects of the show. So it was a relief when he moved onto his own show, where his character improved tremendously. I also liked Angel better with Cordelia, so there's that. In the case of Spuffy, I'd heard about the slow burn and the enemies to lovers arc. So I was curious how all of that would happen. I didn't expect Spike to be such a creep towards Buffy. Season 6 wasn't great for them as it was, but the painfully long, attempted rape scene was the last straw. There was no overlooking that, yet season 7 basically had Buffy bending over backwards to defend Spike just because he had his soul back. That sucked. Out of the two love interests, Angel > Spike, always. But truthfully, the only Buffy ship I was ever passionate about was the potential one with Faith.
Jonah/Frankie - Degrassi Next Class: I don't know what I was expecting from these two. They seemed to have chemistry based on the promos Netflix and F2N released. I naively thought Winston had been such a dick that any guy would be an improvement over him. Jonah seemed like an overall decent guy in season 14 during his relationship with Becky, even if he was still haunted by some demons. Unfortunately, Next Class Jonah was a cold, judgmental, arrogant asshole. At least towards Frankie. The writers seemed to want an enemies to lovers situation, but mostly it just felt like Frankie being berated by her older boyfriend. She was an insecure mess with him, and he got away with emotional cheating.
EJ/Gina - HSMTMTS: Looking back at all the signs, it's very obvious Ricky and Gina were intended to end up together from very early on. But I was so certain that Ricky/Nini was the Disney ship that HAD to end up together, so I didn't think my ship stood an actual chance. EJ was transforming into a good guy and I wanted Gina to be happy, so I thought they'd be pretty good together. Sadly, they didn't have a single ounce of romantic chemistry. It was painful to watch. Gina's one episode almost romance with a guest star shined a light on what was lacking with EJ. Watching them fumble into their awkward romance was the worst. Which is a shame, because their platonic chemistry was pretty solid.
Duncan/Veronica - Veronica Mars: This was a VERY long time ago, and my reason was shallow: based on pictures, I thought Teddy Dunn (Duncan) was cuter than Jason Dohring (Logan). I knew nothing of their relationships with Veronica, just that Logan was more popular. I'm not particularly attracted to either guy physically now, but it's very obvious it's all about the charisma. Logan had it and was played by an extremely talented actor. Duncan didn't, and his actor was considerably weaker in comparison. Logan and Veronica demanded to be written together regardless of what Rob Thomas wanted. Duncan as a character was never able to keep up with Veronica and kind of like BA in some ways, it felt like a regression whenever Veronica was with Duncan.
Honestly, there needs to be a category for ships you initially liked solely because it was the only thing being offered at the time and less that the ship was anything special. Because I decided against including several ships for that reason LOL

Ok, so I haven't been able to comment much on my Riverdale rewatch mostly bc i'm watching it with my boyfriend and we have an agreement of no cell phones when we're watching, otherwise we can't pay proper attention to it. But I wrote down some notes about the episodes I did watch (I watched up until ep 6, which is very ironic bc apparently today is its anniversary, so yay for my perfect timing). I actually remember most of the stuff that happened in s1, so here's mostly a few things I paid more attention to or noticed about the characters and the ships, or things i'm able to look at through a different view now that i've watched all the seasons. Strap in if you want to see my notes, if not just scroll please, no ship or character hate here please. Also, feel free to ignore, this is really just a personal look in some stuff I didn't notice in my first watch.
- Betty's character used to be much happier and lighter in season 1. I know we're introduced to "Dark Betty" right in episode 3, but still, I feel like the way Lili played Betty in season 1 did not hold the same "darkness" as it does in the following seasons. The scene where she is dancing happily in her bedroom because she's going to homecoming with the boy she likes? The scene where she introduces Jughead to the Blue & Gold and gets him to work with her? Her genuine innocent happiness at seeing her sister again after so much time? The way she interacted with Kevin and Veronica? Those were all chef's kiss because she actually feels like a teenager in them. In all her girly glory, she radiates youth energy and it's a thing that was sadly lacking after s1. Btw this is not a critique at Lili's acting at all, I blame it entirely on Ras and his obsession with dark Betty.
- There's actually so many indications of Cheryl being a lgbt character in the first episodes that I have no idea how I missed it the first time. But then again, there were many indications with Veronica as well, and sadly that's not the path Ras chose for her.
- Jughead in s1 is truly so superior in so many ways that it's not hard to see why he quickly became such a fan favorite. I think even if he wasn't played by Cole Sprouse, he still would have conquered many fans' hearts. Sadly, the things that made Jughead such a loving and interesting character for me also fizzled out in s2 when the writing team decided to make him a woke serpent leader instead of allowing him to sticking to his true personality as a passionate mystery lover, a dedicated friend and very nerdy, which was very cute. I feel that we got some of that back for him in s4, which was good, but sadly s1 is where my love for him really stayed to stay. But I still care for him, and s5 has a promising storyline for him which i'm excited about, so let's see if s5 Jughead can become better than s1 Jughead.
- Going back again to Cheryl for a sec, I just noticed that the red lipstick actually wasn't that common for her in s1? At least not in the first five. I wonder when did it start becoming her trademark? Anyways, it's actually a really good look her and allows you to appreciate Madelaine's natural beauty even more.
- Also, did anybody notice how Alice lowkey figured out who killed Jason in ep 2 lmao, like... in episode two she legit says she wouldn't be surprised if the Blossoms themselves had killed Jason, which... is what happened LMAO, considering we know it was his father. And even more hilarious and tragically ironic note, in ep 6 she's laughing at Betty suggesting that Hal killed Jason because "do you think your father has the stomach for it?!"... Ma'am... i'm-.... 😂😂😂😂.
- This rewatch has reminded me of how much I adored and how I much I miss Josie and the Pussycats. The girls were such a nice addition to the cast, and their songs were so beautiful. I truly wish we get to see them again someday, but at the same time I also think the actresses deserve to be at a work place where they're given the treatment they deserve and not completely ignored and treated like extras.
- Archie/Valerie was super cute and is very underrated in the fandom, but i'm glad Valerie stood up for herself and didn't take any of Archie's or Cheryl's sh*t. Still sucks because they were really good together, though.
- Why was Jason not allowed to talk, lmao? Like, i'm sure it's become a running joke in the show at this point, but back when season one was airing what was the excuse for it? He appeared in so many flashbacks and scenes and we still never heard a single word ☠️☠️☠️☠️. I just want to know what was the reason lol.
- I liked s1 Reggie, but I feel like Charles Melton's Reggie is better because he actually feels like a douche with good intentions lol, and he has more of a personality. Most of the time I even forgot about Reggie in s1, but after s2 he definitely made me more aware of him. So for that, I like Charles Melton's Reggie more. But the actor from s1 still did a good job with what he was given.
From now on I will be talking about the ships, so bear with me, and know that I am a multishipper. Yes, I have my preferences. No, my word is not law, it's just an opinion, so please respect it.
- Bughead is still super cute in s1. I feel like from s1 they will always be my otp, even if I no longer feel as strongly about them now and have a different insight as to where I would like their story to go, and now I definitely see the problem others had mentioned before of how they kind of took over the show, which is something I kind of closed my eyes to before... But I really loved them in s1. It felt like a very juvenile teenage relationship, they didn't give much thought on why and if they should be together, they just went for it like teenagers usually do, and they were very very cute together.
- I feel like if you don't count Beronica (because they really were the best no matter what you say or ship), if there's a ship that deserves "best chemistry" award for s1 is probably Varchie. I lost my interest in them years ago, but this rewatch reminded me of why I actually loved them once. They never really became an otp for me, but Kj and Camila's chemistry in s1 was VERY GOOD, and I really liked them. Their kiss in the pilot was electric and the s&xual tension was OOF, and that chemistry carries on through the season. You can easily tell something will happen between them eventually. It makes me sad bc I don't know what happened after s1, but their chemistry from s2 onwards was just... not there for me. Which is ironic bc it's the season they truly started dating and they got a lot of smexy scenes, but I just... didn't feel it. But I'll leave that comment to my s2 rewatch. For now just let me enjoy Varchie's chemistry in s1 while it lasts because it was really good.
- Now we get to Barchie, who I made clear was the reason for my rewatch, so let's get to it. I LOVED the way Barchie was written in s1. I remember when I first watched Riverdale, I was curious about their dynamic but didn't put much thought into it because I loved Bughead too much and wanted them to be together, and I thought Barchie would be the traditional "first og ship" thing and wouldn't have a big follow up, but boy was I WRONG and am I GLAD for it. I'll talk more about their development in the next seasons when I get there, so for now let's focus a bit on s1. Just in like the first two episodes, there is so much Barchie foreshadowing, like, it's legit insane how it was right there in my face and I missed it the first time! "I have never felt what i'm supposed to feel with betty", "it's not my fault he doesn't like you", "I can't give you the answer you want"... Omg, those are obvious eyebrow raising "this will come back to bite you in the a$$" moments and it's incredible how they actually DO! I would call it clever writing, but like... it's Riverdale lol. So I really am just glad that the ship was done this way, i'm glad Barchie has the back story that they do, they've really come a LONG way and i'm happy I get to experience their whole growing storyline. It's also especially good because s1 actually provides you with scenes that show you their friendship and how they're so close, you see them hanging out, talking, their pictures together, everything was just really done well with them. Still have a bit of critique with the way Archie contradicted himself sometimes regardinf his feelings for Betty, but let's be honest, we've watched enough Riverdale to know that's just a problem with the writing.
- Kevin/Joaquin is still my favorite Kevin ship, i'm sad it's completely impossible to go back to them someday so for now i'll just be really glad it existed and that I got to see them even if it was short-lived. They had great chemistry and their kiss scenes always outsold.
- Beronica... sigh. Beronica. The most wasted chemistry i've ever seen on CW and I've watched a LOT of CW shows. There was so much potential there, s1 was practically overflowing with them and it's one of the reasons it became some popular. I remember when the Beronica fandom was the biggest one, ah, good times. Veronica and Betty were easily the best part of season 1, their friendship, their lowkey romantic moments, they were just superior in every way. This ship deserved better, not even just as a ship, but as a friendship.
- Veronica's s1 hair >>> Veronica's hair in seasons 2-4. I loved the side part and I am glad it's back in season 5, it looks so much better like that.
- Cheryl, as always, deserves better. Can't wait for her to meet Toni so I can watch again Cheryl finally get to love someone and be loved back, which is exactly what she deserves.
For now, that is all! I will probably make another post soon when i'm done with season one and from season two on I will be live-blogging the episodes since I will be watching it alone. Once again, pls, no hate, my thoughts are my thoughts. Peace.

I know I shouldn’t even try making sense of RD or the fandoms but like... why exactly do I see so many bugheads (don’t attack, I too am a bughead) hating on archie and saying bughead is gonna last but varchie isn’t?
Veronica and Jughead BOTH got cheated on. Now the writers are sexist and racist so of course more focus would be centered on Jughead and Veronica would be an after thought to them but if they had CONSISTENT writing, then you would know she is NOT an afterthought to Betty and Archie.
Why, why would bughead last and varchie wouldn’t? Because Betty and Jughead have known each other since childhood? Because Veronica and Archie were broken up for a while?
I give you the fact that both Jug and Ronnie have been insecure at points of Archie and Betty’s relationship. Barchie should have never been visited like that, but since it was, here’s the thing.
Betty and Archie don’t plan on telling their s/os, which means it’s going to come out at a time they least expect it, when both couples are happy (because that’s just how drama works) like a OTH plot except the writers could NEVER match OTH excellence. Veronica has already expressed that she was afraid to open herself up to love, even with Archie, and that HONESTY goes far with her (See: Archie telling her about the kiss that happened when they were broken up in season two).
Jughead has already expressed the fact that honesty is important to him too, perhaps moreso than loyalty (although, this is only based off of the fact of Fangs coming clean about why he did drugs, going against the serpents COC, but I don’t know if I’m remembering that correctly) and in my opinion, the only thing that Jughead and Veronica would both take very, very deeply is if B/A had an ongoing affair.
And, yes, it ended, but it still happened. Should it have? NO. Would it have if the writers had a lick of sense? No. But the point is... they don’t plan on telling them. They wouldn’t have if it wouldn’t (speaking past tense, but we know it’s going to) come out already.
So honestly, and I don’t know if I got this across, if varchie breaks up over it... so should bughead, honestly. I don’t care if you’re a buggie or a varchie but RD portrayed it in a really bughead centric way- we got betty’s point of view but not Archie’s (And I recommend @andsmile ‘s story about the varchie centric version, it’s more justice than the writers will ever do), but both halves of the cheating storyline either deserve the same amount of blame.
I mean, clearly VA & BH will be endgame, but that doesn’t mean they should just breeze over this and have the fandom slutshame Betty or call Archie a fuckboy for an honestly really emotionally confusing traumatizing time (when hasn’t their life been traumatizing since the show began) in their lives.
However, and I’m ashamed to say this as someone who ships bughead and varchie, the bughead fandom has ALWAYS hated on archie/veronica more than betty/jughead in any given situation. It’s not that hard to be fair. Do I approve of cheating? No. Do I hold both sides of it responsible? Absolutely.
They were BOTH in committed, loving relationships (makes you wonder why it happened, huh) and both made choices they shouldn’t have.
Also, and this isn’t related to anything, I miss the core four being friends, what the fuck. B & V are willing to lay down their lives for each other at any given moment, Jughead went on the run with Archie when he really didn’t have to, but instead we get this shit.
And on that note, it’s not just about bughead and varchie. It’s about Jarchie and Beronica too. Archie and Betty are canonically the most important people in Jug and Veronica’s lives as their best friends and significant others, respectively. Their friend group will be fractured and it is not the fault of one person, but two.
Veronica Lodge/Luna is NOT an afterthought. She is Betty Cooper’s best friend. Jughead and Veronica will BOTH be hurt by this and they will BOTH be valid to be hurt over it.
Yes, the dynamics of BH and VA are different, but one thing that remains true is that betrayal stings deep, especially when it’s someone you love romantically and someone you consider your best friend. Veronica, despite how often the show sidelines her and leaves her out, is a valid part of the core four. Her not being raised with them (or being white) does not erase that.
Last point, but why the fuck do the bh & va fandoms argue so much- we don’t have combatting ships. Our ships are literally best friends and the core four. What the fuck.

Reasons Why I Don’t Like Barchie
Let me start off by saying that I don't really have a ship for any of the teens really. There are some that I like more than others and there are a couple that are 100% my NOTPs (Barchie being one of them), but I'm not a Bughead stan, a Varchie stan, a Beronica stan, a Choni stan, etc. I mainly focus on the plot and the parents. Ships aren't my main focus most of the time. But I haven't been able to watch this season since Barchie got so much bigger and I'll tell you why.
When I started to watch Riverdale, I was 100% in Betty's shoes. I had a big crush on my best friend and I thought that eventually we'd end up together and when I thought he liked me back, I got rejected just like Betty and was expected to continue to move on as best friends as if nothing happened. But just like Betty, it was too hard and too painful. That happened to me irl only about a few weeks before I watched it happen on Riverdale and I went through that heartbreak all over again. I've seen shippers praising the exact scene where Archie broke Betty's heart after the dance. I don't understand why you could praise a scene where he HURT her. It would be the same vice versa....if she had broken his heart. Either way, it's not romantic at all. She went into her room and probably cried that night. Something I know well about feeling unwanted.
I know several people blame Grundy for that, but that doesn't make any sense. Here's why. Archie never looked at Betty the way he looked at Veronica THE SECOND, she showed up in Pop's her first night in Riverdale. Right there is a clear sign that he wasn't interested in Betty. He proposed to her when they were younger, yes. But they grew up, still really close to each other, and he never asked her out. Meaning he either didn't see her the way he saw Veronica that first day, or he really did just want to stay friends with Betty. Back to Grundy. People say that Archie felt drawn to Grundy so he rejected Betty. But if it were because of Grundy, why, only two episodes after Grundy leaves, did Archie go straight for VALERIE and NOT Betty? Grundy left in Season 1, Episode 4. Which means Archie could have gotten with Betty (if she really was his first choice) in Season 1, Episode 5. I know, I know. It was too soon, right? Hm? Then why did Archie get with Valerie in Season 1, Episode 6? That's not even that much longer after Grundy left. So when people say that Archie has loved Betty this whole time, it doesn't feel true to me, because if she really was his first choice, he would've gone right to her once Grundy was gone, but nope. He chose Valerie first. Also...he kissed Veronica in Episode 1, which shows that Grundy was definitely not stopping him from kissing other girls. They both KNEW Betty liked him yet they kissed anyway even though they WERE just gonna stand in the closet and not do anything till time was up, but they kissed anyway because they were attracted to each other. If Archie was attracted to Betty from the get-go, he wouldn't have held back from kissing her the moment he knew she liked him. He liked Veronica that way, not Betty. So I'm debunking the Grundy theory.
Another thing that bothers me is when people call Jughead "Betty's rebound" off of Archie. Hm...if that was true, I doubt she would've stayed with her "rebound" as long as 4 years. Especially since Betty and Archie have both been single at the same time yet she still chose Jughead over him. She fell for Jug after he finally gave her back the stuff she's been waiting for from Archie. So Jughead was and is not a rebound. If anything, Veronica was ARCHIE's rebound. But not from Betty. FROM VALERIE. He got drunk af at Jughead's birthday party because it was right after Val left him for being a terrible boyfriend (which he clearly is) and after Val threw her drink in his face, he got more drunk and then Veronica kissed him and he was like "Oh, sure. I'll sleep with you since you kissed me and I'm upset and Val left me."
Back to Archie being a terrible boyfriend (aside from when he was with Josie). With Val...he ignored her and only gave her attention when he was gaining something with his music. Then Cheryl's family gave him an opportunity to go to a good music school, so boom, he ignored Val's wish not to be Cheryl's date to her family Maple Gathering. Dumb move. No wonder Val told him she was done. Then...with Veronica, he kissed Betty. But then Betty was not interested (Hmmm, because she loves her “”rebound”” Jughead so much). And then Veronica told Archie to stay away from Hiram and what did Archie do? Completely ignored her and got stuck in some big mob mess and illegal shit. Then he broke up with her over the phone when she was trying to support him. So she got with Reggie who treated her so well (yes, they had problems too) but he was so whipped for her, let's be real. He did everything she wanted and he would've done anything for her. Then they had their issues and broke up but they were about to get back together, LITERALLY, just as Archie showed up and was all "I love you. Come back to me" and Veronica was obviously still not over him, so poor Reggie had no chance and then Veronica got back with Archie who she should not have gotten back with. She was amazing to him (all of his friends were) when his father passed away. But VERONICA talked him out of saying that his father would be ashamed of him and she made him see otherwise and told him that Fred would be proud of him. That's a GOOD girlfriend. Meanwhile, Archie still has eyes for other girls (Betty now apparently). But anyway. I'm just saying that Betty AND Veronica both deserve a better guy than Archie Andrews.
I just don't see why any girl on this show would be shipped with him. Remember when Veronica decided to kiss Jughead to even the playing field after they told Jug about Barchie kissing? Archie looked pissed. Like wtf? You kissed Betty when you were STILL WITH VERONICA. At least Betty and Jughead were over at the time. I don't believe Archie had a right to look so mad about Jeronica's little fun/platonic kiss when what he did was behind Veronica's back and while they were still together. Her and Jug "getting even" was right there in front of the other two and playful. Nothing to be angry or possessive about Archie. Jeez.
The only time he was an outstanding boyfriend was with Josie and that was the only time I was actually EXCITED to watch Archie scenes. They were great together and they both EQUALLY supported each other and helped each other through things. Not to say that Archie doesn't have good qualities, because he does. He's been trying to clean up Riverdale and he helped Veronica figure out how to get Hiram to fight through his sickness. But I just really can't see him with Betty after everything they've been through without each other. They barely talk anyway till now when they're FAKING being together.
Bonus: There are people who talk about how Archie and Betty doing investigations together are better than Betty and Jughead. But the only time Betty and Archie did an investigation together was to figure out who the Black Hood was and they ended up unmasking the wrong person. Their janitor, who was actually innocent. So clearly, Betty and Jughead are a better team. Not to mention, Archie can really be one of the biggest dumbasses in Riverdale.
THE COMICS: Yes. I know they are canon in the comics. But we well know that the comics and the show are VERY different (Did you know that Penny Peabody and Fangs Fogarty are supposed to be endgame like they are in the comics??? But Riverdale made Penny a 30 year old and Fangs a 16 year old, so that became a "NO" right away. Hence...the difference between the show and the comics). Also....there are comics where Betty kisses Archie behind Veronica's back when Varchie were together and she kissed him without his consent in the dark when he thought he was kissing Veronica (A BIG "NO"). So the comics aren't really a good template to follow. Especially since nowadays, I really don't see chemistry between Lili and KJ. Their fake kiss in the music room (I've seen it on Twitter, because I still haven't seen 4x16) was so awkward and weird to watch. It was so bad. Idk. I can't get behind it.
THE FORBIDDEN LOVE: I don’t understand why people call them forbidden, when they’re both Northsiders who grew up next door to each other and they were never forbidden from being friends. They’re not a forbidden love. Bughead was at first because he was from the Southside and Alice didn’t want Betty to be around Jug or Serpents. But Barchie is definitely not forbidden love. If it is now, then it’s because they would both be cheating and that is disgusting.
Anyway, I haven't been able to watch the season since 4x15, because all of this fake Barchie nonsense legit makes me ACTUALLY sick to my stomach. Cheating really is not okay at all and them pretending that Archie cheated on Veronica and that Betty would get another boyfriend SO FAST after she was framed for MURDERING HER OWN really does not sit well with me or my stomach. The writers are NOT doing this right. If they wanted Barchie to be together....the best way to have done that would have been through them ACTUALLY breaking up with their s/o and then becoming close friends again AND THEN moving around to that romance. But this fake dating and fake cheating stuff is disgusting and I don't think I'm gonna continue season 4 if they become canon that way. Just no.

5. Which fandoms have your written fanfiction for?
I have never been a superly monofannish person, and I have written for a fair number of fandoms, but discounting fandoms that I was assigned for fic exchanges I have written for Gundam Wing, Fullmetal Alchemist, Escaflowne, Mighty Ducks, Inuyasha, City Hunter, Dawson’s Creek, Avatar the Last Airbender, Sailor Moon, Ouran High School Host Club, Eureka Seven, Steven King’s IT/IT (2017), V (2009) and due to my one lone Beronica Fic, I guess you can say I have technically written for Riverdale. About a month ago I orphaned a lot of my older works because they had become a bit incongruous with what I want attached to my name, so not all of those fandoms are still present on my AO3.
Fandoms that I’ve written exclusively for Yuletide as my main assignment are:  Soul Eater, Diana Wynne Jones’ Archer’s Goon, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Claymore, Drive Me Crazy, and Notting Hill.
8. How did you get involved in your latest fandom?
Well this is a fun story, but it is sort of a set of factors that brought me to watch an old 90s teen soap opera in this the year of 2018/2019. I should start by saying back when I was a part of the actual target demo for teen shows I only watch Buffy and didn’t deign to watch any of those other inferior teen shows and actually counted not being a weekly viewer of Dawson’s Creek as a point of pride. (It was very much one of those “I’m not like those other girls” nonsense attitudes, oh bb!Kristen you stupid, stupid girl). I did however osmose certain things about the show because at that time, you just sort of did. So how did I go back and actually watch this show well….
The first factor was that in the back half of 2017 I had the weirdest dream, where I literally dreamed the plot of my current WIP Boy Problems for Disney’s The Mighty Ducks which I had not seen or thought of in years (God told Joan of Arc to save France, God tells me to write steamy obscure dudeslash fic, Thanks God!).
The 2nd Factor was that in like October of 2017, I watched Riverdale which I binged and then kept through to the winter finale of season 2 and then 5 months later thinking I was free (spoiler: I was not in fact free) and I started sort of following it and now I am here sort of following it week to week, but mostly mocking it while dreaming of my super gay alternative, and being increasingly annoyed with the fandom’s tendencies to make superficial comparisons to other show, a fandom trend I have always hated and that harkens back to Zutara fandom in ATLA (Zutara is not 1xr or Van/Hitomi, thanks).
And the third factor was that way back in like July or August or some time there was a clickbait article that was basically TV shows characters that should have ended up with someone else/wrong endgame pairings which I clicked mostly because I wanted to see what they wrote about the How I Met Your Mother finale (I love reading takes on the HIMYM finale, I find it fascinating) and well the clickbait article stated that Dawson/Joey should have been endgame. This intrigued me because it contradicted everything I had ever heard/osmosed about the show.
So I decided that I would watch it to draw my conclusions and to see if what I had heard was wrong (which I thought was a possibility because I don’t by my nature trust giant ship fandoms like PJo was back in the day, it’s something I still sort of keep to this day), and I was like I will mock it and at the very least I will be able to have ammo against stupid fandom comparisons and due to a shared actor, maybe pick up good screen caps for like a moodboard for The Fic that had now progressed from being a dream to a thing that actually exists.
And so I started it and as God would have it, I got invested, and now find that the Clickbait article was wrong, fandom needs to shut up Bughead/Barchie/Jeronica is not like Pacey/Joey thankyouverymuch, and I can’t use caps for a mood board because I would just cry and can’t associate anything from the show with anything else.
So that’s story about how this dumb binch got invested in Dawson’s Creek years after everyone has moved on!
21. What was the first fanfic you ever wrote?
No Joke, the first fanfic that I wrote down and then posted was a Sailor Moon/Gundam Wing crossover that was basically just a retelling of the story of Sailor Moon with added giant robots. If you are like “Please tell me it wasn’t Senshi/Pilots” I am afraid I can tell you that (The pairings were if I recall Heero/Serena, Duo/Amy (What?!), Wufei/Raye, Trowa/Lita (cause they were both tall) and Quatre/Mina (Oh Quatre sweetie, I’m so sorry)) I killed Mamoru, and Relena just didn’t exist because this was set more in the SM universe than the GW one so I just brought over the pilots. It was multi-chaptered and I wrote a chapter a day. I wrote five parts of it covering all 5 arcs of Sailor Moon.
Yes, I was totally better than those other girls as you can see. And no, those fics no longer exist online. In my defense I was 15 years old, I had not yet realized I was a lesbian and if I were to write that story now it would be Usagi/Relena because that story would be effing amazing.
36. What’s your favourite genre to write?
I enjoy a long slice of life romcom if I’m honest. The plotting of both my longest fics (Boy Problems and Living Arrangements) are the sort of stories that i love to write and come the easiest to me. I am also partial to quiet thematic characters beats and fics that explore characters putting things back together which if I can ever get back to 1xR as a ship that inspires me, I would love to do just a slice of life romance of them paralleling and finding their way back to each other. Also just cute romcom premises are always fun.
40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?
I am so off and on when it comes to prose. Like there are times where I can do it and I love it, and other times it’s a struggle and I have to fight from just making everything dialogue (I maintain confidence in my dialogue.)
46. If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why?
I think both Boy Problems (Mighty Ducks) and Living Arrangements (Dawson’s Creek) are the most apparent clear examples of where I am right now as a writer, but they are longer and the fandoms aren’t super in anyone’s face. I would say of my shorter one-shots, Save the Last Dance (Gundam Wing) and Once Lost, Now Found (City Hunter) are the most emblematic of me as a writer and my approach to characterisation. I also every once again get into to hugely stylistic gen pieces that I generally feel very proud of like Creation in Nine Acts (Avatar the Last Airbender, a mock creation myth for the Avatarverse, written before Korra was a thing but was not meant as the literal creation myth anyways) and State of IT (IT a short vignette from IT’s point of view.
51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!
I don’t know if this a thing I love or hate, but I am tired of fandom’s missives of you MUST COMMENT/KUDOS on everything you read. Comments/kudos/likes/reblogs on fanworks (not just fic) are great, but I don’t think that anyone is obligated to do any of those things. I think what I would rather do than rant or gush is to say that I think if you are a creator try to at least find comfort in validation of respecting and loving your own work. Write for yourself first and foremost. I think when I let go of the need for validation was when I really allowed myself to grow and appreciate myself as a writer. I wasn’t worried about what other people would think but just if I can read this and enjoy it and allows me a little more time thinking and writing about characters that I love than I am good, and I post it as a sort of second thought for if I enjoy it there may be others (even if it is one other person). So I guess I would leave it at that. If you’re a reader, don’t worry if you don’t leave feedback, no one is owed it and you don’t have to give any if you don’t feel that you can. And if you are writer, I would urge you to focus and write for you first and foremost and treat any feedback as a sort of treat on top of the pride of knowing you saw something through.

Hello guys, I might not post a lot right now because I'm in the middle of writing a fanfic for one of my lovely followers, but while I'm off writing I did want to give you something. This has been on my mind lately and it's really bothering me. Every single Bughead shipper I've talked to that follow me has been the sweetest people on earth, and I deeply thank you. I am so glad to have followers like you guys. I'm glad to experience Riverdale with you guys. On the side I have some across a few people who put others down, whether it's because of a character in the show or a ship. I have been tagged in a comment saying how Betty is a slut and hates Veronica and slut shames her. It deeply saddens me that people have to put down other people because they don't like what they like. I know that all the other fandoms have hate in it too, but can we just all come together and not be just another fandom filled with hate? Can we put aside who we ship or what characters we dislike and respect everyone? It doesn't matter if they ship Varchie or Barchie or Vughead or Beronica. We are all unite being apart of this fandom. Spread love not hate. Yes, I admit, I hate the thought of some of these ships but o hate the thought of people putting people down because of their ships even more. Let people ship what they want to, it hurts when someone says your ship is never going to happen and is stupid. We are all emotionally invested in these ships and characters. Yes I understand that not all the ships can happen, or will happen, but everyone ship who they want. Please be considerate of people. For the people who do show support people no matter what their ships are, I thank you. Never change and you are the people that make this fandom so amazing. I love you all and thanks for listening. I hope you all take this to heart.

An Asexual Defense on Bughead: Why you can still love even though you’re asexual.
You might ask, this is just a show on the CV network why do you even need to shitpost, bruh? Well, I'm tired of misrepresentation and mislabels. That's why. I fight for love, equality, and no judgment.
Disclaimer and truth: I’m not an ace and I’m not an aro. Currently, I am also single (have been for all my life, shocking yes) so I can’t say what being in a romantic relationship is like. I’m a prude – and believe it or not Internet: I’m a virgin.
So, I’m not claiming I know what it is. So, am I unqualified? Well, perhaps. But, that said – I know what love is. What really love is supposed to mean. I’ve dealt with it all my life and seen the type of love that is questioned intently by this show. Jason and Polly’s love until death they parted: infatuated with each other when it first started as a sexual drive to be near each other 24/7. Betty’s parent's destructive love where high school sweethearts turned sour when Hal forced Alice to take an abortion (and canon universe, that would've been a brother fun fact). Veronica’s parents lack love: Hermione just needs the money from Hiram and since he's in jail she thinks she can play innocent adultery. Jughead’s mom leaving because even though she loves FP she can’t be around him when he’s sinking into alcoholism - so she takes Jellybean too.
And, the most talked/debated/questioned/discussed relationship of all time: Bughead…because of questions on sexuality and representation in media.
I think, if possible, it would be interesting if Riverdale explores what Lili means by “Betty makes Jughead happy,” “Betty and Jughead make each other happy,” etc.. Not necessarily a sexual drive or fascination to have a level of intimacy that is body-to-body controlled. But, a nurturing and loving need to be beside each other in order to feel wholesome. It would be interesting to define love – Cole quickly corrected a commenter saying Jughead “makes love” instead of “fucks.” What does that entail for the series, hmm? No one is talking about that too.
Whilst making an asexual defense for Jughead, I want to personally extend this to females: particularly an asexual defense for Betty. Now before I get trashed, note that this asexualism should apply to girls (since I think girls can also be asexual).
Also, making Betty asexual as well (as a narrative) would be an interesting struggle and a cool propulsion for a Dark Betty plot. Before getting into that, let’s address this elephant in the room. Lili, in an interview a while ago, did say in an OTP battle: rather than Bughead vs. Barchie – she thought a Betty doesn’t need a man. Other interviews, she is asked whether she ships Beronica - she said that let fans ship, she is just the actress. And to be real frank: I think if Betty was in a better state, Lili probably is right! A lot of fans for this show are shipping and hurting each other through shipping poor little Betty. Rather than argue if Betty’s heterosexual, bisexual, homosexual, bi-curious, etc. – if she’s even sexualized or not. I’d like to acknowledge how amazing the cast and writers of Riverdale shaped Betty: that she is just a teenager girl who just wants to be loved for who she is and to equally give love back to that person. Because she doesn’t want to be lonely anymore.
Love wins. Sound familiar? Ask this: does an aromantic (who is defined not to experience romance or love or chemical driven feelings of longing/nurturing, etc.) not understand this? Is it fair to ask that question? Not attacking anyone at all, just getting one to think about others.
Also, I don’t know how true this is. But, I’ll go ahead and pose this as a questioning statement to follow up the earlier question: I’d think that just because you’re asexual doesn’t mean you don’t understand or can’t define sexual attraction to someone. “Passion” is just not driven by all the “chemicals that would lead the body to feel good.” And crassly stated: “whatever you’re type of kink is, sex-wise and sexing-time wise.”
That said I think this might be a great driving force for a Dark Betty if the writers take her that direction. Rather than she’s got a seductress and a curiosity to quell, she’s got a lot of pent of rage in her from how many times people have categorized her/MISLABELED her. And even more, hurt people she really loves. It appears to me that being an asexual Betty too would have very interesting validations of why she knows how to play the overtly sexualized character…just as a punisher and a justice seeker in the absolute wrong way. I guess what I’m trying to say is instead of playing the “LUST” card, she would be a “WRATH” card. I know, controversial! While one might be quick to say that Jughead is “WRATH” I think he’s more of a “PRIDE” card – since he didn’t want to openly admit who he was and his upbringing. This leaves Archie to “LUST” as his deadliest sin.
Anyways playing said cards, but NOT in your favor, the outcome would have “dire consequences” like what Jughead alluded to in episode 3. Maybe in the future seasons of this show, Betty could get into so much trouble with her recklessness that she earns herself juvi-time like what Jughead went through, perhaps filed harassments, or law-enforced investigations. That or she could lead her to decisions that she needs to speak with therapists – her ADD and Adderall usage, etc.
It seems that inner fire – so much that she forgets that she has that character inside her is emboldened ONLY because she it’s done to rage her opinionated lessons about how detrimental and harmful sex/fucking can become on her enemy. Rather than romance/love as a driving force, she’s willing to hurt anyone who hurts the ones she loves. This could be a great point for when she thought Chuck – who hurt/ridiculed/dominated/screwed with many women Betty cares about (i.e. Ethel and Veronica) because he felt powerful and it felt bodily good – was actually Jason who wrote Polly’s name in that disgusting book like he glorified that she was another notch in his bed).
Somehow her being around Jughead gives her clarity. She can think easier. Him being present makes her feel wanted and needed, but not in any way that’s not beautiful. This makes sense with her narrative on why she doesn’t push Jughead away. She could’ve said something in episode 4 when he just kissed her. Instead, she wants a relationship with him – she wants to be with him, and to walk with him. I think that’s the gist of what some Bughead shippers see. More than this though, it’s that both of them are weak and young. They don’t know anything else but Riverdale, and both connect because they love the charm of old Riverdale and because they know what love really is supposed to be. I’m a Bughead shipper (yes) and also not a Bughead shipper (in the way that most people are shipping that causes this type of stir-up in the Riverdale fandom). I'd define myself as: “I want these two cinnamon rolls to finally be happy and if they make each other happy because they love each other it’s good in the hood if not oh well writers decision of representation goodnight kthxbaiiii”
Representation is necessary. I think with how much attention human equality (the particular intricacies of members towards the LGBTQ community, aces and aros, etc.) are being refined and taken care of, it is important to clearly illustrate terms to what many toss precariously. Riverdale is doing this. With strong avocation to human rights and policies – politics themselves, Cole is right: people should keep asking and re-asking questions of whether Jughead is asexual or aromantic. Using fresh labels to define a person is tricky because no one wants to be mislabeled and misrepresented. Arguably, I think it’s better to be underrepresented than told you’re not who you are.
I think Chip Zdarsky’s illustration of Riverdale in the modern world is interesting and it sheds light on the difference of what love is and what the media is shaping love into. In other words, asking this question finally will bring light into what many people are throwing around and having constant fights about – defining the labels: that asexualism and aromanticism are different. That bicuriousity and bisexualism is actually different. And so forth.
Outside of just Jughead, and asexual defense for Betty (too) would also be beautiful if the narrative is written this way. Betty is struggling with holding herself together in midst of her family dramas between the Blossoms – Cheryl who constantly still bullies her all because of her grudge against Polly, a falling out romance with the boy she loved since he confessed he wanted to marry her in 2nd grade but openly admits he doesn’t love her at all, her parents literally splitting up. She needs to know where she is all the time, not who she is physically and bodily wanting.
Jughead, who is struggling to define his love. What is it, and why did he choose Betty? Is it just cause she's there? I mean, his family is gone. Nothing is set in stone, but everyone at least can acknowledge he’s scared of physical presence, physical contact, and physical commitment. He chooses to stay aloof and outsider-like. His way of relating to the world is sardonic. But, he wants to love and nurturing. He wants someone to think of family and love like Betty does. But, he’s scared of coming up short or not having enough to invest into. And that’s probably why people think he’ll push back a bit again to shield himself. Commitments being that many people HAVE let him down so much that he doesn’t want that tie to intimacy. Let their companionship (whatever it is) be that heals their heartbreak, rather than just physical attraction.
Not to say that there’s anything wrong with being aromantic but sexual, asexual and aromantic, or anything. Again labels and mislabels are important for young people to know so they won’t be afraid to define who they are. No judgments, just absolute awareness for these causes of not offending or hurting someone. But that’s just my two cents.
Maybe this is me overthinking and blissfully hoping. Betty has and always will be my favorite Riverdalian – ever since I grew up reading the comics (when I was a 7 year old who probably shouldn’t have been reading them). Jughead’s been interesting, and the dynamic between the two of them is something I’ve observed over all the digests, rewrites, comic diversions, etc. Protect my smalls from drowning and falling apart bitches.
Everyone is so invested in Jughead’s sexuality – what Cole thinks about it, what Lili thinks about it, what Roberto thinks about it, what Chip thinks about it: whether or not any of them support one side over the other. All responded in similar manners about this: that they’re torn. Additionally, I’ll ask a few more important ones on this subject. Is Jughead truly capable of romantic love? Does he truly romantically love Betty? Or is Betty a stand-in for his own personal weaknesses and demons? What about Betty? Does Betty love or could she love Jughead romantically? Or is she attracted to the idea of him because of the “word that begins with a letter B” be it just a physical need/support? I think this is what Cole and Lili want to explore when they were excited their characters connected.
So, don’t worry kids...words containing the prefix “a-“ still confuses a lot of adults in the English language to this day. Asexual, aromantic, amoral, asepsis (all means not what they are) and then you got words like ablaze, astride, etc. (which means that they are starting). That’s why we’ve got Teachers for America.
So, go on you citizen amongst 7 billion in this world. You can still love in your own way. Peace.
