TALK ABOUT DAD DOG DUO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEEE THEYRE MY FAVES

Okaaay I’ll talk about them! I’ll knock out about three or so things about their relationship that I've noticed that I like about it. Because they are my faves also as well. I mean, look at them!

First, and I’ve seen a post on this before (where I have NO IDEA I’ve BEEN LOOKING) so it’s not my original idea but I love pointing it out; how Duck takes care of YG physically.

First one to rush to get the first aid kit in Jobs, careful enough with Warren extraction in Friendship to not hurt YG, and some could argue that swapping his old rusty batteries out the first time in Electricity is a form of first aid. There’s also smaller stuff like how based off the flashback in Death, YG clearly trusts Duck enough with things like this to ask for his help.

Second would be the fact that I think their relationship is fairer than a lot of people think. Lots of people seem to have this idea that Duck is sort of a weird parental/authority figure over YG or that their relationship is just Duck constantly berating this guy who thinks the world of him. I’m going to break down why I think both of those points are untrue, and why I think their relationship is closer to equal.

YG clearly feels comfortable enough around Duck to draw boundaries with him. Example that immediately comes to mind, for me, is when Duck is trying to get the other two to leave with him in Family and Yellow straight up just turns him down. Like, if he doesn’t want to do something or go somewhere with him, he won’t.

Also, weirdly enough, the fight in Friendship solidifies more of them being on a equal playing field to me. Like Duck starts it verbally, but YG both makes it physical and immediately tells Duck not to insult him. Which, IMO, you wouldn’t do to someone you totally idolized/a parental figure. YG barely reacts when his own dad pushes him in Family, so I think if he saw Duck as a parental figure he definitely wouldn’t fight back the way he we see him do in Friendship.

Third I’m going to end with cute things about them that I’ve noticed. Starting with of course! Little moments in Death that are sweet like…

The way they both bob their heads agreeingly in Transport when Red Guy is cycling through driving instruction tapes, implying they both understand the lessons LOL

Of course I have to bring up the (you have diabetes/ maybe your blood sugar is low, let me get you a snack thing) which makes me cry a lil bit. Both because of what it implies about them offscreen AND because as I’ve established in a previous post, when his batteries are Charged, YG’s memory is NOTABLY horrible. And despite that … somehow the diabetes thing was important enough for him to remember <:3

can i hear the whole rant about remember me because HARD agree. especially because it’s literally 2 episodes after family…. like. come on.

god ok ok so. like i said in the tags i do think remember me is a good episode in a lot of ways, and is probably my favorite beverly one (bc she’s one of the ones who usually gets shitty focus episodes, but that’s not the point). that said, it absolutely does not do what it should logically do. losing wesley is the fear that kicks off this whole specific alternate reality, and yet somehow this episode is not about their relationship. and if you look at the show…nothing ever really is?

like what kicked this train of thought off off is the point in this first duty recap about the fact that they almost never let dr crusher be the central parental figure to her own son, and I’m inclined to feel like they were right about that. like yeah clearly some of it happened before the show or happens offscreen or whatever, but I feel like they almost never really have like….meaningful conversations in the course of the show. I don’t really feel like there’s anything Wrong with the interactions they do have but they’re almost always short, often surface level, and somehow every episode that should be about the two of them ends up being about picard’s dynamic with one of them.

with remember me specifically, it ends up being about picard to the point where most of her conversations are with him. her big fear at the end is picard disappearing. she already encountered wesley and now he’s gone. rip i guess. forget about the aforementioned fact that the fear of losing her only child and the last living piece of the husband she already lost was the reason this specific reality was created when the warp bubble hit. forget about the fact that, from a narrative perspective, this episode is set up to be About That. and then when she gets back she spends like 30 seconds hugging picard first (and then talking to the traveler lmao) before finally checking on her son that’s collapsed on a table. it feels like they went out of their way to not address the fact that wesley is in theory the most important person in her life.

idk man this episode drives me insane because it could have been a STELLAR opportunity to explore this mother and son relationship and delve into the complexities of it that we never really get to see, and then they just don’t do it because picard is more important (and because, with the exception of the trois, they don’t seem to think mother/child relationships can be as interesting and complex as father/child ones. and also because they never knew what to do with wesley). we could have had wesley as the last other person remaining! we could’ve had them working together on this, which is something we never really get because their knowledge is in different fields! we could have explored the degree to which theyre willing to trust each other! we could see how she feels about the ways in which wesley has matured over time and the ways in which he hasn’t, because he’s a genius who has dealt with a lot of things, but he’s also still a teenager with a lot of vulnerability who needs support from his mother! we could have ultimately seen her reaction to her darkest fear coming true! this could have been so good!!!! the version that I am imagining in my head rn is personal top 5 episodes material. god.

in general, wesley’s consistently defined by the parent he doesn’t have, and understandably so. it’s central to his narrative, and it makes for a compelling story. it just feels like he’s so rarely defined by the parent he does have, at least in any truly meaningful way, and if they’d taken this episode in the direction it should have gone, it could’ve done so much to fill in that gap.

How about A for Reality Trip for the episode rewrite thing?

my biggest issue with reality trip is that its just a series of travelling around to non connected locations to get the mcguffins, and while danny’s secret being public matters somewhat, it doesn’t really impact the fact that they’re on the move too much. I also don’t like the ‘maddie and jack accept him perfectly and then he wipes everyones minds anyway’ cause that doesnt do anything. i DO like the “our summer vacation plans got ruined thanks to a ghost” angle so i want the themes of the episode to focus on danny’s frustration that nothing ever goes right and how he doesn’t even know what he wants

so i think in my rewrite:

-danny’s secret is out almost immediately, and it’s because the GIW shot him w a destabilizer and he publicly morphed (he got away thanks to shenanigans similar to the onstage debacle in canon) how this is thematic: he thought he didn’t want the secret out at all but, weirdly, a lot of the popular kids are fine with it. he’s still afraid of what his parents will think but he’s also frustrated that he had unfounded fears

-however, when danny (terrified) goes to his parents: theyre gone. freakshow has taken jack/maddie/jazz/etc and frozen them in some magic bubble bullshit or mind control or whatever so they don’t actually know. freakshow is sending danny on a fetch quest for the gems thematic relevance: he just hyped himself up for this conversation and they got yanked away

using these two, i think we can keep a similar opening/setup for the ep, ie freakshow in GIW containment until he breaks out, for setup-payoff

regrettably this still keeps the fetchquest aspect that i think makes reality trip broken in the first place, but since the first freakshow ep was about danny being evil I think it could be neat if we had some of that carried over into this. the ‘reality stones’ (since we live in a post mcu world now, we regrettably would have to change some of this, but i digress) respond highly to ecto activity or whatever, basically meaning that with every new one they get danny becomes a little more powerful. since everything is going wrong for him (see: the theme) and he doesn’t know what he wants, he starts to get a liiitttle power-hungry. A little messed up in the head.

ideally then there should be a way to work Vlad into this plot too. i’m a sucker for dadvlad tbh so let’s say that... when the Fentons first get kidnapped danny begrudgingly goes to vlad like “my mom and dad are kidnapped” and vlad may be a dick but he doesnt want his college crushes (or crush singular if i’m forced to be canon compliant) locked up so he’s helping. at first hes like “oh my boy daniel let Me hold the Magic Rocks surely you trust me haha >:)” and then later hes like “....son these rocks are turning your brain into goo.” course nobody believes him cause its all a ploy all the time forever and always

since danny’s secret is out too that means theyre actively on the run and vlad can’t always be There because he’s relatively high profile in either form, just for different reasons, so we can make him more of a “i did research offscreen and i think this gem is in x location but I can’t go there because i’m a bitch” type character

i DO like the intelligent aladdin-like ploy of ghost envy in the original but ‘ghost envy’ as a theme has to be reworked at least slightly for this, so also with danny being evil let’s say he’s feeling the scales tip especially after his reveal to the point where he’s feeling like he’d be better off if he was living his life entirely as a ghost.

of course when they get the things to freakshow danny has the gauntlet and hes all like “im evil now and i will kill you” and sam/tucker/maybe vlad are like “but danny. you have friends.” and we get a montage/list of allusions of those times that they actually helped him on this fetch quest, like idk sam at a rock concert using loud horrible teenage music to chase the GIW out etc. they got souvenirs from everywhere they went. so danny sees this and hes like “oh noooo my humanity” and drops and in that split second freakshow grabs the gauntlet

and dannys like “oh great even NOW nothing EVER goes right for me” but because i put vlad here and because i like parallels vlad is like “so what are you gonna wimp out” or whatever he says. they probably had a somewhat heartfelt speech earlier about “why are you helping” “I care about jack and maddie being alive” “bro they hate you” “not everything has to go right for me to give a shit, daniel” or w/e

so before danny can overreact with his rage he remembers to work with what he has and pulls the fast-thinking “oh i bet you wish you were a ghost huh” trick that allows him to put freakshow in the thermos. then danny goes to get the glove and hes like “wait... no... that turns my brain into goo” and vlad is like “how about i get it :)” and danny is like “no youre evil” and vlads like “damn u caught me”

so sam and tucker actually use the gauntlet bc theyre not ghosts so their brain wont get fucky wucky. obvs they make the decision to wipe peoples memories of dannys identity but theyre also like “danny... don’t you at least want to see how your parents would react before we do this” and danny just sorta. shakes his head and repeats some “not everything has to go right for me to give a shit” line from vlad or something and of course its cause hes still insecure but also he’s okay with not having PERFECT control over everything now which is what he struggled with all episode so. character growth!

i feel like me saying “vlad should be here :)” is a staple that might lead to his character losing some of that original allure but like... honestly. vlad should be here :)

before the memory wipe dash makes out with him but that was a given

ive been posting about my codex!wendy au on twitter for a couple days now but instead of just copy and pasting what i wrote on there ill actually expand upon it a little. also this post is gonna be really long but theres pictures so i hope that helps

if theres any moment where the timeline splits (not including moments before this that may have had a butterfly effect), it would be william carters train crash in 1904, which.... did not happen in this universe. he, with no small amount of shame, moves in with his rich and successful brother.

wendy and abigail grow up having, essentially, an extra parent, which thankfully means abigail didnt die. with their mother long gone, when jack dies in 1919 (not of magic-y reasons, just like... a heart attack or something), william is left to take care of the twins alone. he tries to find jobs so he could work himself to death and at least save his nieces, but due to his general lack of competence, he isnt finding much that can actually sustain them all.

wendy and abigail, who have noticed this despite williams protests that everything is fine, decide to do the smartest thing they can think of: run away from home so william only needs to take care of himself. im sure you can see why this is a bad idea, even in a universe without the codex umbra, but boy does it get significantly worse for them very quickly.

wendy gets hit by a car. abigail runs for help, but by the time she gets back, wendy is fine. and clutching a strange book.

over the course of the next few weeks, wendy and abigail manage to scrounge up a little money, and between this, wendy shows abigail some neat tricks the codex umbra taught her. abigail suggests, a bit jokingly, that maybe they could become magicians. the codex wendy thinks this is a great idea.

at the codex umbras suggestion, wendy adopts a stage name, “mary,” and the twins perform their first show. it goes very well, and they make a lot of money, so they decide to keep doing this, and hopefully save enough to go back home and take care of their uncle.

mary and abigail perform many magic shows, and end up becoming beloved around the country. admittedly they do get a bit lost in the sauce, but theyre teenagers, wouldnt you? except, mary often times seems to forget they theyre doing this for their uncle at all. in fact, mary seems all-around real different these days.

mary becomes far colder, more secretive, and will lock herself in her study for days at a time. abigail notices her sisters change in personality, and attributes it to the fame going to her head. unlike charlie, abigail never realized quite how deep mary had gotten into the codex.

mary and abigails final act goes very similarly to maxwell and charlies. theyre going through the routine when something goes horribly wrong, and theyre grabbed by the codex and taken to the constant. mary becomes the queen, and abigail the night monster.

mary rules much like her uncle, and brings most of the same people into her world. the differences are as such:

maxwell is still william carter, who replaces wilson as the “all-around” type. if he was in the game, he would only have slightly lower hunger drain, and otherwise be identical to wilson without a beard

charlie has taken the role of wendy, so to speak... winona died in a factory accident (the very same one that would have taken her to the constant in another life), and charlie keeps her soul in a rose

webber becomes the “canonical” protagonist instead of wilson. i would have made it william, but it is ultimately important that the protagonist is someone uninvolved in the carter relationship chart

wilson is actually a half-decent scientist so he replaces winona, i guess

adventure mode is the same but i wrote some quotes for funsies, here we go:

pac rim uprising is.... profoundly... *shrugs*?

like if you know me, you know that pacific rim is Entirely My Shit. extremely important to me. and i think may be if this was in a vacuum id be more towards “p alright” but

here’s way too many words bc pacific rim is Extremely Important to me

idk it’s like they looked at pacrim and just took out “oh people love big robot fights, and big monsters” and sure, you’re not wrong, but there’s a lot that made pacific rim not just a popcorn action movie to me, so im disappointed there.

they got rid of almost the entire cast (granted a lot of the chars were dead), for one, keeping just: mako, newt, and gottlieb (and glados for the jaeger voice). and of those: mako has basically no screen time or lines before they kill her off, newt’s character is entirely changed, and so it just feels like gottlieb is the only one they’ve kept. but the new chars feel kinda flat and just kinda “there”. i could put a trope name to them, but there wasn’t really any emotional heart to it. (also hearing john boyega with a british accent is weird and i had problems hearing him just bc apd stuff) also john boyega’s char as the offscreen son feels weird im not into it

drift compatibility lost its emotional heart a bit? like for all that it was a Thing in the first movie, it felt manufactured here. idk ive considered it a bit of a skill (stacker pentecost’s bit about like “i bring nothing into the drift”, eg) but it just didn’t seem like it was connecting people here. Newt and Gottlieb feel really connected at times tho from their drifting which felt good

in general the movie lacks a lot of the emotional heart of the first one? like, there are some good moments but im just an emotional person lol. also how dare they put allo shit into my pacific rim. (and then also never like, “resolve” their love triangle bs (go out and write poly fic! it has a v poly moment, also jake is bi ))

but like, the first one is All About (and that’s why im in love with it) people being close platonically, trusting each other, getting platonically intimate, getting literally inside each other’s head, and why that’s gonna save humanity. this movie doesn’t have that. even gottlieb’s determination to save newt doesn’t save him, he just gets locked up (indefinitely?) and teases sequels

the fights were alright, when we finally got to one (it takes a while to get to even the first sort-of fight scene) but nothing special, and most of them are the jaegers just getting tossed around, there’s only one fight where they seem halfway competent. kaiju designs were ok, the jaegers were ok, but couldve used some breakup in design esp in silhouette. obsidian fury and avenger were basically identical (also they did not fix danger’s name problem and instead kept it. they shouldve called it [anything else] danger to keep the callback)

pacing was weird. we spend the first while on a slow pace (much in contrast to the immediate start of pacrim) and then finally get to a fight, then it seems to set up for an investigative thing but then NOPE. and the bit with the drones felt like a minor hiccup almost, besides all the damage. also the movie spends the first several minutes, and a few conversations later, recapping pacrim (where i was hoping it’d end with: “and now theyre back, let’s go!”) but then also doing lots of weird stuff that doesnt really fit with the first movie, and a lot of questions of what happened to people from that movie.

also, calling the aliens the “precursors” is weird? theyre not a precursor for anything, why did you pick that name for the nameless aliens? halo and pacrim are in the same universe?

mostly, it just feels like what it is: a fanfic of the pacrim universe with ocs (that’s not disparaging at all. it’s a new creating staff doing a work based on an existing work. it’s still fanfic when men do it, even if it usually gets called by other names when men do it)

I rewatched Detroit Evolution

and did a live tweet session as I did so. This is dedicated to the observations I have, I made a separate post talking about questions. To forewarn you, this and my twitter feed will most likely contain spoilers, please proceed with caution if you haven’t seen the film. If you haven’t seen the movie, here you go. And here’s my twitter if you wanna take a gander at the whole live tweet session.

Onto the observations! (This will most likely be a lot of me copying and pasting so wording may be a little off)

(1/4) I LIKE THAT THEY ADDED IN THE VOICE COPIES THAT THE RKs CAN DO

(2/4) and hes obviously hasnt used it before, at least not in front of his peers. in dbh, connor only uses it in the elevator of cyberlife. so good chance they dont know he can do that too

(3/4) the predatory look nines has towards gavin when he said he can do his voice too

(4/4) he looks so fucking pleased with himself

thank god i hate you you love me move your feet theyre not even together yet and they just fit so fucking well

you could see gavin work up the courage to ask nines what would it take for him to like someone

consent is important, yall (side note: this is in context of Nines asking Gavin if it’ll be alright for him to stay and work on the case while Gavin slept)

I've made this discovery before. In #DetroitAwakening Maximilian's hair is a much brighter shade of brown. While in #DetroitEvolution his hair is much darker. Its probably due the passage of time, it happens. I prefer the dark hair and I just wanted to point out how good he looks

props to chris being able to act out the nightmare scene. those aren't easy, man.

reading about gavin's intimacy problems in this film gives more light as to why he shies away when nines starts listing off the pros of physical touch. and of course why he's so hesitant about holding nines' hand and laying his head on nines' shoulder

(2/2) which is so fucking funny because in every other movie, a bedroom scene would be a bedroom scene.

idk i kinda wish nines left when gavin told him to. you could see him struggling to say it so its a big feat in itself. but we gotta love angst.

[Ada] never actually answers nines' question about if she was woken up after the revolution, hmm

again, i like that gavin uses a small taser as a lighter. its very gavin

even during this tense moment in their relationship, nines is always protecting gavin's name

(2/2) WAIT WHY WAS I SO CASUAL ABOUT THAT LAST TWEET WHAT THE FUCK

you know i was really apprehensive about the whole zen!gavin telling nines he has to erase the garden and him. i thought it was some ploy that ends up resetting nines and then ada using that nines as a piece against gavin/dpd. luckily i was wrong.

Nines validating Gavin's points of worry but also balancing it with his own points

Mister Don't-Use-Violence as he uses violence

chris and maximilian's chemistry onscreen is just as amazing as their chemistry offscreen

(In relation to this article) reading this, and getting to the part where maximilian comments about his character, the part where he says that nines is more of a feeling instead of a character to study is a lot to take in. he's forever going to have a part of nines in him, always. such a cool concept.

soooo we watched more! woohoo

we finished the hunter exam arc???? i THNK? lmaoooo at the end of the ep (21 i thiiiiink) we were on, satotz was like BUT THE HUNTER EXAM ISNT EVEN OVER YET or w/e lol aigh??? whats up w/that

anyways a lot happened in the last few eps that we watched....man i shouldve written this earlier but i litrelly havent been online. anyways

so during the hunter exam stage 4...gon is literally perfect (as i always have to say), him reuniting w/leorio and kurapika was rlly sweet :’)

of course he immediately offered to help....goodest boy

and wow that kid has such a powerful nose bvhjksfbjsk he rlly be a gr8 sniffer

ok literally the part where leorio was in the cave and was like GON KURAPIKA DONT COME IN HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and they both full speed sprint into the cave with 0 hesitation.....we love a 0 brain cells family

i love leorio so much he really just b running around w/a switchblade and a breifcase, both of which he barely used during the exam lmao

so bummed that leorio slicing up tht snake happened offscreen. how tf did that even work, he doesnt have a goddamn sword

gon just being able to hold his breath for almost 10 mins makes so much sense somehow...he rlly is one of those shounen protags who is just casually a ridiculous human being and doesnt even fully realize that its weird

that shot of him carrying everyone out of the cave was so sweet

and of course gon vs snakes....hes so perfect....he trusts his friends so much :’)

also random aside but im so glad tonpa is out and idk if i talked abt this in my prev post but i feel like in most shounen he wouldve been like, so inspired by gons shounen protag energy that he wouldve changed his tune and taken the exam genuinely and either passed or declared that hed definitely pass next year - but no, he was awful til the end, this aint that kind of story (yet...?)

have i mentioned that i hate hisoka? cause i hate hisoka. nasty ass crusty clown bitch

what else happened in the phase 4 stuff. oh yeah killua clowned on those triplet dudes (and hanzo lowkey), which was great

ok the opening not having changed this whole time is so funny. imagine if it never changed and its still basic and cheery when everything gets crazy and dark lmao

ooh my god i forgot to mention this last time but i feel like gons backpack is full of hair gel and hair gel ONLY, he only brought hair gel and his fishing rod. this is canon ty

oh gosh when killua and gon reunited at the end of the 4th stage....OOOUGH so precious...those two are so cute god. i want a compilation of their cute moments together i hope that exists

GOD OH FUCK the scene on the airship where kurapika and gon talked bc gon was clearly bothered by something (what happened w/hisoka obvs. i hate that clown bitch) and OUGHHHH OH GOD gon crying LICHRALLY killed me oh man :( i was literally just chanting NO NO NO!!!! at the TV cause seeing tiny baby boy upset was so sad....and ik it gets soooo much worse oh god i cant handle it

the whole convo was really good and really anti-shounen (once again...feel like thatll be a theme lmao) bc like, it was a healthy convo where gon talked honestly abt his feelings instead of using some shounen protag BS phrases like ‘it doesnt matter!!! ill be stronger next time!!!’ or w/e....and kurapika is a such a good parent oh man :(

again, cant get over how genuine and uncomplicated the teamup of the main 4 characters has been....literally no ‘we’re competing and only teaming up for convenience/the hunter exam comes before our friendship’ nonsense

the interviews w/the candidates was interesting! i love how the old dude was SO not picking up what Creepy Hisoka was putting down lmaooooo

that poor old guy lmao he seems like a decent dude, he was like oh i dont wanna fight gon and killua cause theyre kids,....RIP u red shirt legend

the bracket setup was so interesting oh man....very funky and creative. and then it wasnt really fully utilized lol, i feel like thats indicative of a bigger patten - hxh so far has been really creative and interesting, and clearly uninterested in setting things up simply to check off boxes on a shounen tropes checklist....i can already see what makes it so great if this keeps up bc daym, so many shounen have their interesting themes drowned out by the overwhelming necessity for the plot to hit certain shounen story beats, smothering otherwise new/fresh ideas and rerouting them back into the same old over-trodden shounen trope territory

on a meta level, i wonder if the author was like, allowed more leniency (’do whatever bro’) bc hed already been successful w/yu yu hakusho. i havent seen/ready yyh so idk how ‘typically shounen’ it is but thats st that im curious about

aaanyways. the tournament starts w/hanzo beating up gon for THREE HOURS STRAIGHT. jesus dude. so yeah obviously leorio and kurapika are the best parents ever and them getting so righteously angry over seeing this happen to gon is so heartwarming and good and also a big big mood

they love their son okay. also that was fucked up. ALSO i find it interesting that thats only the second time we’ve seen kurapikas eyes turn red

i bet that hisoka saw that also and somethign something phantom troupe, see bottom of post in predictions section

seeing gon get beat up like that made my heart hurt :( especially when hanzo broke his arm...oof.

god also i cant believe hanzo is 18 hes literally bald hvbhjafbjs whats w/hxh and making everyone a teen or younger lmao god

also omfg i love that leorio and kurapika are lichreally 19 and already have kids wow thats amazing especially considering their kids are 12. its so funny that theyre such Parents already considering that the age gap is kinda hilariously small, espec bc i thought that they (mostly leorio) were a lot older at first lmao

the fact that gon gets to win that fight against hanzo was a legit shock to me....again, anti-shounen. we’d normally want to see what our protag can do in a fight - espec in a tournament-style arc where the consequences arent as high typically - so we’d want him to go further, which is easy here bc to move on he has to lose, which is easy bc gon is a baby w/no offensive capabilities (that we’ve seen)

god ive talked abt this already but its so fascinating how we havent really had any full-on fights???? espec w/the main 4 characters????? we still barely know what they can do....WE STILL HAVENT BEEN INTRODUCED TO NEN????

ive been spoiled (i guess?) to the existence of nen but thats abt it. what can it do? what is it? fuck if i know lmao. so i could totally see them pulling a ‘we were using nen the whole time’ w/like hisoka or st, OR a ‘YOU were using nen the whole time w/out realizing it’ w/gon

ok anyways. that hanzo fight was rough but also gon is literally the best. he was trying to bargain w/hanzo to figure out a way where they could come to a conclusion that would satisfy them both - despite hanzo clearly outmatching gon in skill, so the effort on hanzo’s part would be pointless and simply for gon’s benefit....basically the entire proposal sound ludicris and insulting to suggest (or st, idk how to phrase it), but since its gon of COURSE he only has the purest of intentions and means it so genuinely that you cant even be mad at him

hanzo just knocking him out lmaoooo and then hes just out for the rest of the tournament???? thats so wild and...whatdya know....un-shounen!

then he wakes up n his lil x-shaped forehead bandage....ough so cute

also the whole convo he and satotz had abt gon’s victory and hunter license and earning/deserving it was so good :’)

also i feel like the show did a good job of humanizing characters like satotz. i legit thought he was a robot or st at first but it feels more like hes just A Guy now,....albeit a weird guy, but thats to be expected. its like, yeah this guy also took the hunter exam at one point, wow.

anways this is already long and i havent even gotten to the killua stuff yet lol so im gonna stop here for now. and introducing a new segment..........the prediction corner! where i dump my speculations/predictions, entirely for my future self’s benefit

PREDICTIONS:

first off as i alluded to above, i think that hisoka has some sort of connection to the phantom troupe (does he know them? maybe not, but he knows where to find them? idk) and when he saw kurapikas red eyes, was able to figure out that whole deal and said st to kurapika during that fight like ‘hey i can help you find the phantom troupe if you want :))))’

i kinda said this earlier but i predict that kurapika might get really wrapped up in revenge and go off the rails a bit. we’ll see, so far that hasnt really happened, but for some reason i kinda think that it will? we’ll see

i (incorrectly) predicted that killua would have known that illumi was there the whole time, considering that he was able to noticing the hunter exam dudes following him in phase 4, etc....but BOY was i wrong about that oof

iiii think that the whole ‘the hunter exam isnt over yet!!!’ stuff will be an opportunity for killua to pass this year still, maybe? idk abt that tho

i have more predictions but i forgot :( also some of them are more relevant to the next few eps ill make a post on

hard to say lol. for a long time it’s been doc/donut in rvb, tho if u look at my birthday u can see by the stuff people drew me, they all associate me with church/donut cause i’ve been super into that lately so they might be tiedbut truth be told i think i actually think about tucker/donut the most, sometimes with wash added. donut’s clearly the common factor here lol, i just think he’s real easy to ship with people bc he’s energetic and mostly pretty willing to go along with anything. hes a FREE SPIRIT and tbh lotta the guys could use donut as a positive force in their lives to help loosen up, but also donut frustrating the fuck outta people and being snarky with them is super entertaining

so i just really like the potential donut’s got with other characters

donut and doc: lived together on valhalla, made banana bread together, posted a bffls selfie, etc

donut and church: “i like donut, hes pretty harmless man. i dont think he’d hurt a fly” “oh wait the pink guy? oh i actually liked him!! :(” something something “get yourself a medal you deserve it”, something something telling simmons donut’s armor isnt pink but maybe slightly less red, church saying donut captured him pretty well when he was telling the musical story of blood gulch, theyre both dramatic fucks, etc

donut and tucker: their innuendo power could double if they just joined forces. it doesnt have to be straight vs gay. they could collaborate. also they supposedly had a mission together in the desert (even tho i’m still skeptical that that’s how it went, fandom says they did and it gives me a chance to daydream about offscreen tucker donut bonding), theyd probably bicker a lot but are both really funloving, “dont talk like that when im playing with my thing”, “you think everything is romance. last week, you called it romance when i accidentally took a bite of your sandwich” “was it really an accident tucker? was it?” “YES.” “time will tell ;)” “ugh”, “donut u really didnt need to spend so much time cleaning the codpiece” “a three coat waxing is just my way of saying I Care”

U mentioned disliking monty monogram in a post and I'm wondering why??? I don't see anything wrong w him plus his relationship w vanessa was far superior to ferbnessa

i hate monty bc the show forces me to like him? like i enjoy him as a dude to just hang out with hes not like Problematique(TM) or anything. but from a writing standpoint he is just... the worst choice you can make imo. like he is the last character i would want added to a tv show i was running

1) he bogs down the tone of the show into something too serious for pnf. he never has moments where hes Mocked or goofs up or anything, he’s just A Normal Chad. (nobody in the entire canon of the show even perceives monty as anything other than a straightlaced teen) and him being normal isnt ever played for goofs or gags, its not like he becomes the straightman of a wacky and zany world or anything, he just exists and then the world becomes a generic spy drama around him

1a) i dislike that theres not anything TO dislike about him yknow? like perrys whole situation is weird and heinz is licherally evil and candace is spastic and these characters all have really deliberate quirks. monty is just. Some Guy and I genuinely would probably wanna hang out with him but I hate that that’s all he is

1b) listen. yeah montynessa is technically superior to ferbnessa. but at least ferbnessa had a boy who doesnt talk with a F for a face wandering around in fishing gear after this badass metal chick. like that’s a funny and intriguing dynamic and at least it’s interesting. monty is *literally* some brown haired white boy in a gray hoodie who is always good at his job and makes bad smalltalk. hes a stereotype of a generic mary sue

2) his entire existence invalidates carl as francis’s surrogate son. it makes monogram’s and carl’s relationship go from funny coworker i-might-be-your-dad-no-i’m-not-haha-just-kidding-unless to “you will never be my son, and I despise you.” like monty is introduced via francis shitting on carl

3) everything monty does couldve been handled by perry, carl, or vanessa; there is literally no need to bring him in as a character at all. you want children-of-sworn-enemies dating? give carl and vanessa a meetcute (we couldve learned more about carl’s home life!). you need an extra secret agent to do a thing bc perry is compromised? let vanessa turn good for a hot second because she doesnt want the world to like, die. he’s JUST an extra character

4) he literally adds so little to the plot that, despite being set up like he’s going to be Vanessa’s actual love interest, he isn’t even mentioned in any of the finales. he *wants* to be a secret agent and he’s not even at OWCA. its like the writers couldnt think of interesting things to do with him and they just scrapped him

i hate monty bc at every turn i am forced into liking him. i WOULD play dnd with this guy bc i trust him. he’s a nice relatable guy who just wants the best for the world and has a soft voice and a go-get-em attitude and wears gray sweats and has a decent relationship with his dad and wants to date the goth girl except he can’t because theyre star-crossed lovers. “haunted by you” is a fucking bop. i HATE all of this because its like theyre just concocting as much bullshit as possible to FORCE me to like him, but then as soon as he’s offscreen, he has exactly zero impact. they didnt write a fun and intriguing character, they wrote a likable person, and there is a world of difference between the two
