Any timeline news bestie?

actually yeah!! a good chunk of news that i need to officially type up and source, but if you want to just take me at my word that i’m not making up interviews:

@1989worldtour and @taylor-on-your-dash found an old interview where taylor says she wrote back to december in new york, meaning it was likely written in early/mid may 2010

in that same interview she also said she wrote mine while on tour, probably in texas (that’s her saying probably texas not me). which would put it march 10-12 2010. the thing that trips me up about that though is scott borchetta said she showed it to him in february, which isn’t a big time difference, but taylor left for the bahamas right after texas. i don’t know exactly what day she left, so it’s possible she flew from texas to nashville’s to the bahamas and recorded the first mine demo then, but unless she did that the next time she could be in nashville would be on the 21st, and the next time she’s in nashville for longer than a day would be march 29, both of which are pushing the february mix up. but no matter what taylor probably wrote it in early march, since all the dates in february were in australia and tokyo, which seem hard to mix up with texas.

in that same interview she said she started mean in her kitchen but then had to leave to go play a show. that could be whenever, but the only 2010 show she played without a show right before/after it was in baton rouge on may 29, where she had two days off before and after it, so speculation but better than the “idk sometime in spring?” that i had it under before

(side salad: you might be thinking claire, is that too many may 2010 songs? and if you’ve read the speak now timeline you might be thinking, but what about long live in the first week of june and the story of us in the second week of june? is that too many songs? and to that i’d say wow, thank you for paying so much attention. but, taylor does go into writing frenzies in the months right before she finishes an album, and she finished writing for speak now in june and recording for it in july, so like. it makes sense that there’d be a cluster right at the end)

Master Detective Archives: Rain Code coming Spring 2023 to Dangan your friggin’ Ronpas

So today’s (9/13/22) edition of “Nintendo Direct: Now with 400% More Farming Games” included a new trailer for Enigma Archives: Rain Code — now titled “Master Detective Archives: Rain Code.”

Here’s some of the information we saw and learned today:

— This takes place in a corporate-controlled metropolis where long-unsolved cases are investigated by so-called “master detectives” from around the world.

— You play as Yuma Kokohead, an amnesiac detective. (Naturally. We love those.) He’s just a trainee at his agency, though.

— Shinigami is a spirit who haunts Yuma because of a pact between them. She’ll be your partner, evidently.

— So you investigate crime scenes and talk to people in 3D. That’s cool.

— “When you’re ready,” Shinigami conjures you a mystery labyrinth. This is where you’ll work through the evidence and logic of the case via physical manifestations of the mystery, such as...

...this crazy mine cart ride that seems to clearly be a “Logic Dive/Psyche Taxi” type-event. “MIND MINE”? :)

— Oh, but apparently “mystery phantoms” will attempt to hinder your progress. So you’ll have to “cut through their contradictions.” This segment shows you dodging attacks in an arena that’s very “Tokyo Mirage Sessions”-esque, then literally slashing through words blasted at you.

It’s “coming first to Switch in Spring 2023.” So there’ll obviously be other platforms later on. (The new trailer also makes it clear that there’s gonna be a full English voiceover, in case you were curious.)

Previous info we have:

— According to DR writer/creator Kodaka, he’s spent five years on this game, which he considers his “masterpiece” (DAMN, ok dude).

— Danganronpa character designers/illustrators Rui Komatsuzaki and Shimadoriru plus Danganronpa music gurus Masafumi Takada and Jun Fukuda are all in on this. You can definitely see/hear that in the trailer.

KOKIA updates: January 2024

Below, I have summarized KOKIA’s recent announcements and messages. As explained here, this will remain the style of updates for now, though I hope to be back to old style full translations sometime this year. It is my hope, but I cannot make any promises. My apologies and thank you for your patience.

KOKIA has made multiple updates for her Once-in-a-lifetime meeting 2024 concert tour. At the tail end of 2023, KOKIA announced pre-sales for fan club members opened up for the performances in Kyoto, Saga and Oita, with the fan club pre-sales for the special performance in Tokyo (which will be held in lieu of her usual spring concerts) opening in January as she mentioned on January 10.

Normal pre-sales for Kyoto, Saga and Oita ran via the ticket offices on January 1-21, while pre-sales for Tokyo are open January 30 to February 4. The links for the offices are in the respective news entries.

Finally, KOKIA announced on January 26 that additional tickets (about 20 seats) are being sold for the first performance on February 4 in Yokohama. This sale started January 27 via Ticket Pia, with by the looks of it still some tickets left right now.

In her recent Instagram post, KOKIA also added Hokkaido and Nagoya to the list, on July 6 and September 7 respectively.

Of course, KOKIA mentions her upcoming tour in her blog entries too.

In her last post of 2023, she looks back on her 25th anniversary year and returning to Japan. 2024 is the year of the dragon, which is also KOKIA's zodiac sign, which makes her extra excited for what the new year will bring.

On January 8, her first entry of 2024, she explains how her upcoming concert tour will be her way of saying thanks to people all across Japan for supporting her. She has mostly been performing in Tokyo or overseas in the last years, so this will be a nice chance to travel Japan and meet her fans in their regions again.

In her next post, January 16, she mentions how Yokohama and Kyoto have already sold out, and she talks about places she'd like to visit in the prefectures she'll be traveling to for her tour. This year also marks the first time she'll be performing solo at the Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall, although she has been there as a guest before at Mario Tashiro's concert back in 2018.

She updated again on January 21 to announce she's bringing back autograph sessions at the performance in Yokohama on February 4. She hasn't been able to hold these in several years, so she's excited to come face to face with her fans again and exchange some words, even if it's quick. She'll also have several of the items for sale at the venue that are currently unavailable at her official web shop. She assumes you'll receive a ticket for the autograph session if you make a purchase.

In her conclusion, she's already counting down to her 30th anniversary, so she's definitely not slowing down any time soon!

Finally, her most recent entry of January 26 mentions the extra tickets for sale for the Yokohama performance, as mentioned above.

MochiAka appreciation post

Mochita and Akari was my first ship in the HoneyWorks series, and I doubt I’d continue following HoneyWorks if I didn’t fall in love with them in the first movie (PS. They carried that film for me lol).

Now, even if HaruMiou is my HW OTP, I’ll always hold something special to the MochiAka pair. It’s just sad that except for KoyuRyou, this ship got the shortest stick in the 1st generation when it came to the screentime they got, getting only 1 sequel story through 2 songs. The Tokyo Sessions that had them as the main focus is the Tokyo Summer Session, but it’s not the same focus as HaruMiou to Tokyo Winter and Spring Session, and NatsuYuu with Tokyo Autumn Session. MochiAka only got the highlight in the climax of Tokyo Summer Session, and it’s sad knowing that. I mean, at least MidoSena had multiple songs to back up their lack of anime adaptation.

For the record, I know that Mochita had a love at first sight for his Akarin while HaruMiou was built in slowburn and angst + NatsuYuu was probably the one that had the highest chance being that they’d been neighbors since childhood (and I love them both). Added by that, Souta was possesive (and a simp ngl) at first (like others with their crushes lol), but he genuinely prioritizes her, and actually makes her happy.

Even so, I feel like there’s also something very sweet to MochiAka that does not get enough appreciation and analysis.

First, I just want to point how this novel is heavily underrated, and it also reminds me of another underrated (and my favorite novel) HW story which is...

this one.

I would have never realized how important Mochita’s confession to Akari really is if haven’t I figured how paralleled Akari Hayasaka is to Tsubomi Natsukawa (the black haired girl from the Seikai wa Koi ni Ochiteru story), so a big thank you to @deus-ex-mona for translating and making me addicted to this masterpiece!

What I love about the Seikai story the most is how much it was a “what if” from the Solution for Jealousy novel.

First, let’s point out the Seikai’s trio and who I think parallels them in the main series (or at least, in a story point of view)

Kaname Akutsu is Haruki Serizawa while Misaki Sakurai is to Miou Aida.

Yes, yes, I know KanaMisa has parallels to Aiyuu as well, and Kaname is much more gentle than Haruki while Misaki is much more outgoing than Miou (plus Kaname’s one of the best cooks in that universe, Haruki struggles in it lol).

However, when you look at it the story point of view, both Haruki and Kaname were those guys deemed geniuses in their respective crafts (Haruki to movie directing and Kaname to music).

(lol they almost even have the same hairstyle in this XD)

They both like the humble brunette short haired girls they spent time with the most, Miou and Misaki ( which likes them back for so long, they just struggled confessing).

Those brunette girls also both have friends that are both beautiful dark-haired (sometimes with the shade of purple due to light) girl heartthrobs that also happened to be considered geniuses in their campus (and has many similarities with the guys) as well.

Tsubomi is a direct parallel to Akari. There's no way it isn't. Tsubomi was that one girl (genius) heartrob in the campus that didn't experience her first love yet, but subconciously expressed interest on a friend (Kaname) who nearly had the same braincells and talent as her while not realizing it earlier (like Akari to Haruki). Anyone who had read the Solution for Jealousy Novel knows how much it was hinted multiple times that Akari might have a crush on Haruki (but not realizing it), and while doing so, both girls cheered on their short-haired brunette friends who likes those guys.

If you doubt what I’m saying with Akari and Haruki as a red-herring in canon, here’s proof lol

This is the official relationship chart concerning only the first songs (including the novelizations of those songs). If you still have doubts, I’ll give more proof later.

I may have sidelined a bit, but my point is, even is Tsubomi and Akari were incredibly similar in story and status (plus they are Haniwa’s most beautiful girls in my opinion, Sena’s just 3rd in my eyes lol), Akari was spared from the tragedy and painful heartbreak Tsubomi experienced because of a brave decision by one person Tsubomi did not have (at least at that time) - Mochizuki Souta.

Mochita confessing to Akari was one of the reasons Tsubomi and Akari had a different experience in their first love at the end. Because Mochita was brave enough to confess and make his presence known to Akari, it shifted her attention to him and not towards Haruki in the novel, making her unable to feel even something deeper than admiration towards Serizawa, and thus saving her from the risks of heartbreak unlike Tsubomi who had no notable characters to interact with other than Kaname and Misaki themselves.

I’m not saying that Haruki was actually Akari’s first love whom she did not realize. No, it was all still Mochita. However, like Tsubomi, Akari could have continued her admiration for Haruki until she actually falls for him (and eventually gets heart broken because HaruMiou had mutual feelings for each other just as much as KanaMisa, no more argument on that) if Mochita did not confess and actually get to spend time with Akari. In short, Akari did not fell in love until Mochita came, but things could land on two possible results, and it could have gone on the other one had Mochita wasn’t courageous enough.

This is a conversation from the chapter before the epilogue of the Solution for Jealousy novel (translated by @renna-translations ) between Haruki Serizawa and Akari Hayasaka. Assuming, this is accurate (I trust that it is), it just blatantly confirmed that Haruki is just as much of a candidate as what Mochita became due to his confession, and this scene served as the closure for anything Akari even feels for Haruki.

The bud that “hadn’t been able to bloom” refers to her feelings for Haruki, and the “new flower” refers to what she feels now for Mochita. The “that didn’t mean it had gone to waste; it would become the strength for a new flower to sprout” literally translates to “She throws away her chance to fall in love with Haruki, but don’t worry, it means that she’ll fall in love with the other one,” and she literally thought of Mochita the next line lol.

I find the MochiAka story incredibly sweet much more now considering that it's not just Mochita overcoming his own fears and assuming he and Akari already hit off after he confessed - no, it was just the beginning of it. Because he was brave enough, he indirectly saved the girl he loved from suffering a potential painful heartbreak and that makes their story even deeper and worth appreaciating.

Bonus detail: I love how it was also Haruki that told Akari where Mochita is in “The Day I Knew Love” music video (and the novel to which I’m about to read) and when she found and spend that time with Mochita, she finally acknowledged that she found her first love! Like, Haruki took a small part in it, and that’s a cute detail lol.

Now, you might say that I’m overanalyzing things (which I probably am lol) but I just accept that some parts of the Seikai wa Koi ni Ochiteru novel especially Tsubomi’s story, is a “what if Mochita wasn’t there” kind of arc (I joked because Mochita became Kou Mabuchi lol), highlighting how important Mochita’s confession is for the start of their love story.

His confession is just the start of their story, so MochiAka might be one of the least angsty ships in the series, but they actually have depth in them because like everyone else, they started as friends. Souta waited for her the same way Ken Shibasaki did for Arisa Takamizawa in “Namaiki Honey.” I honestly find it cute lol.

I feel like this post had been long enough lol. I just want to appreciate this ship so much and remember how pissed I actually am that they didn’t get their solo anime XD. He was her happiness, and so was she to him. They might not be as deep as HaruMiou or have a background like NatsuYuu’s, but they still started as friends and love each other enough to decide that they want to spend the rest of their lives with each other.

My Journey with Yuzu

First of all, this post is a VERY long post. It's going to be quite personal, so feel free to skip it if you don't feel like reading everything. Essentially, this is my journey - from first hearing about Yuzu, to actually discovering him and becoming his fan. I also share some thoughts about what comes next in this journey.

2018 PyeongChang Olympics

I was in university working on a project when I heard news that the Olympics were about to start. I have been watching figure skating on-and-off as I child, but had never actually followed a full skating season nor watched an entire competition. PyC was my opportunity. Also, I was not familiar with the skaters, since I hadn't watched competitions since around 2014-2015.

Unfortunately, because of my tight schedule and limited resources at the time, I was unable to find a live stream of the Olympics and I gave up trying to watch.

About a few months later, maybe Summer 2018, I got a recommended ice dance video (I have no clue why or how the YT algorithm suggested me that). It was from a practice session, I don't remember whose, I just remember clicking on it because I thought "figure skating, cool".

The next recommended video was the gold-winning performance from the men's discipline - of course I watched it and loved it. Yep, that was the first time I saw Yuzuru Hanyu, his PyC SEIMEI. But then something came up and I had to get off YT and completely forgot about him.

Spring 2019 (I think)

Fast forward a year and I'm on Pinterest looking up who-knows-what. And this photo appears.

I was in awe. He looked so strong, determined, broody, he looked like he was solving an equation in his head. Because of the all-black attire, I completely missed the fact that he was wearing skates and thought he was a model or something. Never tried to find out his name.

2020-2021

Then COVID hit. Life was put on pause. More fast forwarding. I watched the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and before the opening ceremony, I saw some talk that Yuzuru Hanyu was going to show up as the final torch bearer (speculation, more likely). Who is Yuzuru Hanyu? I looked him on Google.

This photo was the second that showed up in the search results.

It was quite the contrast compared to his first photo in which he was holding up a medal (later I found out it was a photo from the JNats 2020 victory ceremony).

So I went back to YT and saw that I had watched his PyC free skate. So I decided to watch his short program, too.

No, I still wasn't invested or interested in him. The summer Olys were starting, I was trying to keep up with several sports and my sleep schedule was a mess.

2022 Beijing Winter Olympics

I didn't want to miss the figure skating like I did back in 2018. So I got a subscription to watch the Olympics. I decided to get as informed as possible since I had already watched in 2022 the Europeans and Four Continents, too. So I joined figure skating reddit.

On there, before the team event of the Olys, I saw a bingo card and one box features "Yuzu shows up and does the FS". Who is Yuzu?!

That was my downfall. I know him, I've seen his previous Olympics programs. I decided to check his career achievements page - I was impressed then I wanted to know more about him.

I fell down and hard - in about 2 weeks I gathered so much information about him and binged almost half of his programs (every competition in chronological order), if not more.

I was rooting for him so hard, I read about his quest for the 4A, I saw his JNats 2021 Ten to Chi to and his first attempt at incorporating the 4A in a complete program. I was completely mesmerized by his resolve. Of course I found Planet Hanyu and started watching his interviews as well.

By the time the short program competitions rolled around, I was already Yuzu's fan with quite a lot of knowledge of his hardships and achievements. I also was aware of how bad the sport was becoming.

I am so glad I got to see Yuzu's SP, FS and gala live on TV. I was awake at 3-4 am just to watch him - my heart broke both during the SP and FS. But I knew I had seen something amazing, I had seen history made. I saw his Beijing practices, and his programs' medley - I knew I wanted to see him in person one day.

It's very hard to express exactly what I feel when I watch Yuzu skate, but it's like I'm transported to another world. I wanted so much more. And then the news about him participating at FaOI came. I watched those broadcasts with so much happiness.

I made plans to go to GPF Torino for the up-coming season. Plans which got shredded the moment Yuzu announced that he's going to continue skating as a pro athlete.

In retrospect, I got the compressed version of Yuzu's career - ups and downs - and that's what makes me happy. I saw his LAST competition - all of it, I'm happy for that. I'm sorry I did not see him podium, but that's another story.

I will continue re-watching his competitive programs, his galas, I will continue supporting him and finding every piece of media that features him.

I will do my best to one day attend one of his future ice shows, be it in Japan or another place.

I haven't known him for a long time, but he's made a great impression on me.

I finished reading his autobiographies on the night between 18th and 19th July. I learnt so much more about him. The next day, he left competitive skating.

Now I'm here, waiting for news about his future plans and what he's going to come up with. I am looking forward to his new programs. Yuzuru Hanyu's skating is still happening, on his own terms - that's what I care about.
