Dude I totally relate to the reader sometimes lmao. This was fun to write, it was nice to imagine what Derek would say in that situation and I hope I did it justice lol. Thank you for the request, as always, feel free to spam that ask button lol :))

“Hey,” Derek grinned as you walked into the bullpen.

“Hey,” You replied.

“Ah, ah, ah, stop right there.” Derek said, eyebrows furrowed with worry, “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” You said with a shrug.

“Nothing?”

“Yes, nothing.” You said with a sigh, not wanting to get into the details. You felt bad lying to one of your best friends, but it really wasn’t something you wanted to get into knowing that once you did the water gates would open. “Look, I really need to go, I’m behind on paperwork. But nothing’s wrong, everything’s fine.”

“Okay…” Derek said, knowing that letting it go for now was the best way to go about it. You sat down at your desk, throwing it rather unceremoniously under the desk as you sat down.

You looked at the desk before your eyes flicked up to Derek’s desk ahead of you. Yours was filled with highlighters (both pastel and neon - although you secretly preferred the pastel), sticky notes that had the occasional work-related scribble on it, on others were smiley faces, quotes, and doodles - you favourite one was of a plant pot with a sunflower inside. They usually made you feel warm and happy, now, however, they were the cause of your low mood. With a sigh, you scooped all of your post-its and highlighters into your top drawer. You also grabbed some of the pens, only leaving those that had a black, white, or grey body. You also shoved your rather colourful pencil case into your drawer.

You looked down at your outfit, a twinge of insecurity built up through your chest. With a sigh you grabbed your duffel bag and made your way into the restroom. You dress in a black tee-shirt and some black jeans, wanting to hide any curves you may have. Derek didn’t have curves. Frustrated, you press the palms of your hands into your eyes, kicking the door slightly. That made you feel both embarrassed (like a child having a temper tantrum) and slightly less dreadful (as stupid as it may sound, it made you feel like Derek - kicking down doors). Perhaps you should take up kickboxing. Or MMA. You made a mental note to yourself to search some classes up later.

Derek furrowed his eyebrows once again, this time in confusion, as you walked out of the restroom in a different outfit. He put down his pen and turned to you. “Right, that’s it, spill it,”

“Spill what?”

“Why are you being so weird? You’ve changed your outfit, you’re not as cheerful, you’ve even put away your post it notes and pens,”

“Would you just leave off?” You snap, “I don’t want to talk about it, okay?”

“No, (Y/N), you’re my friend, I want to make sure you’re okay,” Derek said, worry creasing through his forehead.

“Fine,” You said, a blush already appearing on your cheeks. Embarrassment was clear in your posture - shoulders hunched and rounded in, avoiding eye contact. “I’m feeling... ” You sigh slightly, shifting in your chair, “Insecure, I guess. I’m not- Look at me, you know? I’m not and you are-”

“Not what?”

“Masculine,” You say with a shrug, blinking as you feel tears build in your eyes slightly. Nope, you weren’t going to cry, not even from frustration. That would just prove your point.

“Masculine?” Derek shifted closer to you, “(Y/N), masculine is subjective for one. And for two, so what if you aren’t masculine. That doesn’t make you any less of a man. Pretty boy isn’t macho but he’s still a guy isn’t he?” When you nodded he continued, “Then why is it different for you? And if you say because you’re trans I will tell Penelope and we both know she will throw something at you,”

“Because-” You cut yourself off, not wanting Penelope to throw something at you. “Because it’s me and I guess my… circumstances do have something to do with it,”

“Well, to put it bluntly, you need to get out of that mindset. Because we all love you the way you are. Exactly the way you are,” Derek said, “Traditionally masculine or not. So you need to cut yourself some slack,”

“But-”

“Nope, I don’t want to hear it,” Derek said, “I look at your desk and it could have frilly flowers for all I care - it’s still a ‘masculine’ desk because it’s your desk and you’re a man,”

You smile, “A masculine desk?”

“Really? You get what I mean,”

“I do, thank you,” You grab your duffel bag, “I’m going to go get changed again,”

“Alright, you do that, I will put your post-it notes and stationary back, yeah?”

“Please,”

U.S. Coronavirus Numbers

More than 11,695,500 people in the United States have been infected with the coronavirus and at least 251,100 have died.

The number of people who have died from Coronavirus in the U.S. is equivalent to 84 times the number of U.S. citizens who died in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. It is 56 times the number of U.S. soldiers who died in the war against Iraq. It is 7 times the number of U.S. citizens who died from the flu last year.

On Nov. 18: 1,923 deaths (+52% 14-day change), 172,391 infections (+77% 14-day change)

The rates of infection and death remain disproportionately high in the Native American communities across the country. Just last weekend, 600 Native people died on the Navajo reservation.

Sen. Chuck Grassley from Iowa has contracted coronavirus. The nation mourns :-(

Global Coronavirus Numbers

The coronavirus pandemic has sickened more than 56,661,800 people, according to official counts. As of Thursday afternoon, at least 1,355,100 people have died.

Election 2020

Second of all, I think she’s right. Socialism and gender/queer theory are intertwined in so many ways.

And I think she’s right about this, too. Socialism and gender/queer theory all are an attack on the cis-hetero white supremacist capitalist patriarchy.

“Bring back manly men.“

Okay, this is where I think she’s wrong again.

1) "Manly men” haven’t gone anywhere...

2) Is she basically arguing that a couple of men wearing dresses means every man is no longer “manly?” This makes no sense.

3) In a society, “manly men” can coexist with “feminized” men. There is enough room for everyone. And there will always be men who want to take up the “manly” MANtle. And there will be queer/trans masc people who will want to do the same, though I’m sure Candace would hate that.

a/n: trans masc!reader who's love language is cooking anyone?? my love language is cooking this is so so self indulgent :(( i'm sorry this is so short, i lost motivation like halfway through but i still really wanted to finish it so i hope i was able to do an okay job

a/n 2.0: also i'd like to mention i am not a person of colour (i am so pale you can probably see through me tbh) so i hope i wrote what "blushing" would be in a neutral way for any readers who may be POC, if it's incorrect please let me know so i can correct it as i want my works to be as inclusive as possible and i am always open to constructive criticism :))

"(name), it smells absolutely amazing. i need you to teach me this recipe sometime." savannah says from behind you.

currently she, your girlfriend penelope, and your mutual friend and co-worker (and savannah's boyfriend) derek, were sitting at the island in your kitchen.

"i'd be happy to! if you'd like i can write it down for you after dinner and you can call me when you make it if you need any advice or help." you replied with a smile, tossing the pasta in the warm pan.

"i'd love that." savannah replies with a smile, taking a sip of her wine.

you were having your monthly double date with derek and savannah, something penelope insisted upon, she loved spending time with all the people she cared about and what a better way to spend time with her boyfriend and her best friend than to have a double date once a month?

it was you guys' turn to host, deciding on a nice, chill dinner in your shared apartment. you had offered to cook, something you loved to do. there was just something so... right and relaxing, about cooking for others. something you had always enjoyed doing.

you plated up the pasta you had made, serving it to the other three with a large smile on your face, sitting down next to penelope. "bon appétit!"

"gosh, baby this looks amazing." penelope says, kissing your cheek as you sit down.

"thank you, penny." you reply, face heating up a little as you smile. "please dig in guys, i hope you all like it."

the dinner was delicious, lots of work talk coming from al of you as you ate. it was interesting to hear work stories from savannah seeing as she was in a completely different profession than you, penelope and derek.

derek and savannah had even brought over some dessert, some cupcakes savannah had baked herself that were absolutely delicious. savannah promised to teach you the recipe in exchange forthr pasta recipe.

over all, it was yet another successful double date with derek and savannah, leaving you and penelope with big smiles on your faces when you settled in for the night.

arms and legs tangled together as you both laid in bed, you knew penelope was likely already planning the next double date in her mind as she began to drift off into sleep.

of course she didn't fall into slumber before whispering a quiet, 'i love you' to you first.
