HOW DO YOU WRITE SO GOOD?? (tutorial/tips pls)

your writing is IMMACULATE AND SOOOOO, words can't even convey the feelings I get whenever I read your works

Lol, uh, brain makes things.

I got a similar message about characterization, so I'm going to try to include as many tips and personal tricks that I can in this post. I'll bolden the words that summarize each part, that way it's not too much of a mess and people can quickly find what they're looking for.

I'll mention CHARACTERIZATION first, just to check it off the list. So, the only characters I write for besides my own personal ocs, are the cast from twst. Compared to other series, the cast isn't that big, but it's still a pretty sizable cast. You got a mysterious and ominous fae prince with a penchant for speaking in a refined manner that at times sounds menacing, with a model/actor/singer beauty that also speaks more on the elegant side of things, but on the opposite spectrum you have a beastman who's arrogant and has bouts of laziness but is in no way incompetent, oh and don't forget the gloomy shut-in that weirdly enough has strange boosts of confidence and is snarky in his replies at times despite being very introverted and lacking in confidence. There's so many different characters, but I see them get mischaracterized very often. Here are some of the things I do to try and avoid making this mistake...

Look at references. This one may seem obvious, but I feel like people may not do this and just write what they want in the moment without much consideration. Often times if I find myself stuck and wondering what a character might do in response to something, I'll put a pause on my work and look up references to look at. By references, I mean things such as real dialogue from whatever media they may be in. In the case of twst, I'll go back to chapters the character appears in, or even listen to their voice lines. If I'm really stuck, I'll resort to looking at other posts like fanfics or fanart, and by then I usually get an idea. (I take a lot of liberties as a yandere writer)

Similar characters. There are times when I see one character, and think that they act very similarly to another character from somewhere else. In that case, thinking of the other character may help as well, but you have to be a little careful here since there will be obvious differences that could lead to mischaracterization.

Compare. In this one, I think it's important that I highlight that I do not mean to compare your entire work to someone else's. What I mean here is, if you have a writer who you like and you think they write the characters very well, then look at their work. What exactly about their work makes it seem like the character is well written? Maybe they use certain words, or describe certain things? Try and take a note of that. Unfortunately there is a lot of mischaracterization, so if you see some, it might actually be worth taking a note of so you know what you want to avoid when you're writing.

Take a step back. When I'm done writing, I read over the entire thing. I actually do multiple rereads, sometimes in the middle of writing, but I think the most important one is when everything is completed. When you think the draft is finished and you're almost ready to share, just read over it. Try to imagine that you're someone else, a reader who just found the post and began to read it. If you were another reader looking over this, would you be content with the way the characters are written or would you think that it needs improvement?

WORDS AND GRAMMAR. Ah, yes, I still make mistakes here often, I won't lie. I don't use too many sites to help with this. Just two that I can think of off the top of my head.

WordHippo. My savior. I use this site for everything, from writing silly little posts to writing important essays for college. It helps with everything from synonyms, antonyms, definitions, rhymes, etc. But I mainly use it for synonyms. For example, when I write for a character that speaks more meticulously or elegantly, you know, like the type of character that uses bigger/uncommon words, I'll use this site. Like, I know what I want the character to say or do, but I only know a simple word that might be boring or repetitive after a while, right? So using this site, I just find synonyms that fit way better and match the tone I'm trying to use.

Autocorrect. So, usually I'll mainly write on google docs, but this feature is on most sites by now. The system will automatically correct a mistake or highlight it if it thinks a mistake was made, which has caught some errors I've made on multiple occasions. But it's not entirely reliable, because sometimes something you wrote might actually be right but it changes it to something else. So just be aware if you do use autocorrect and read over for mistakes anyways.

And now, for MUSIC. I always listen to music when I write, it's like a necessity now. But it's a bit of a double-edged sword for two reasons. One: songs with lyrics tend to distract me. This may not be the case for everyone, but most of the time if I play a song with lyrics, chances are that I'll end up focusing on the lyrics instead of writing. Not all the time, but most of the time. Two: just trying to search for good music to listen to can lead you falling down a rabbit hole, because then you're just there scrolling and deciding what you want to listen to.

Here's a sorta long list of some songs I've been listening to in the past few weeks that keep me focused. Yes, it's a mess of different songs. You can totally tell what I've been watching/like just by the songs alone. Let me show you... YouTube - chapter 1

Here is the beginning to why the fanfic is called like that XD I created a tag for the fanfic "twst LMSYY" for easier access.

Warning : no proof reading, I have no one to do that.

After what seemed to last 4h of deaf dialogue with the raven man, a few thing could be highlighted:

The child name was Yuu,

They were both from another world named Earth,

This was Twisted Wonderland like the game that Victoria played and used all her money on it,

Yuu was from Japan and Victoria was from France,

Yuu and Victoria were going to live in the Ramshackle dorm as janitors (like in the game),

Yuu did not know the game Victoria played.

Victoria was now at the entrance of the Ramshackle dorm with Yuu, both shocked by the state of the dorm. The building was in worse condition than what was shown in the game… If they wanted to live here, they needed to renovate it. A LOT.

While Victoria was looking at the headmaster going away with a spring in his steps, she began a small talk.

"So… Yuu… I am Victoria Devi like I said earlier. What's your age? You seem quite young."

"I am 15 this year but I still have a baby face. And you?" answered Yuu.

Victoria nodded. "I am 29. You are 15… It is young indeed… You should be playing with your friend, not be a janitor of some sort." She sighed. "We have long hours in front of us to renovate this place. Don't worry, I know how to do some stuff, I watched YouTube."

Yuu arched an eyebrow "YouTube? Are you sure we can do this with the help of… YouTube?"

Victoria laughed "oh trust me, I did many things with the help of YouTube. I learnt how to do my taxes thanks to it."

A noise was heard and made Victoria and Yuu jumped. It was… 

"The almighty Grim is here !!!"

The cat.

After a few minutes of fighting where Victoria decided to not interfere, a cold hand touched her. Wait a minute there wasn't supposed to be anyone with Grim, Yuu and her.

She turned her head and saw a smiling ghost face. Victoria yelled on top of her lungs. "GHOOOOOOOOSTS"

She did forget about this detail. The prologue of the game was a long time ago for her, who was in chapter 7. Of course she forgot some details. The most obvious one. 

The ghosts of Ramshackle laughed at her reaction. "The livings are always so funny" said ghost A.

Aaaand the battle scene with the ghost began. Yuu yelled their order to Grim so he could attack the 3 ghosts.

Yuu and Grim were, of course, victorious and like typical villains, the trio said a good "we shall win next time !"

Victoria thanked the duo from the bottom of the heart. She was too frightened to do anything, yet she was the adult in charge. She wasn't the bravest woman on the planet and it was proven just by this event.

Then Crowley came by and like in the game, there was the fight where he transformed himself into a ghost. Victoria had only one thought [grilled bird for tonight please…]

Once the whole “wow so cool you’re going to be a beast tamer *wink wink* Ok Grim can be here too. *wink wink* but you’re still janitors because why not ? Oh, I am so gracious” Victoria decided that the bird man needed a little… reminder.

“Yuu, choose your room, I have to speak to Crowley.” Yuu nodded and began their quest.

“Headmaster Crowley” mumbled the man.

Victoria closed the distance between the two of them “Listen to me little bird. I can understand that I am supposed to be a janitor, but they are still a child and they should learn. They have to go to class too”

“Or what ?” asked the crow.

Victoria had a sinister smile “I will make you understand the sentence “fiscal fraud”.“

The crow became flustered “Wha-what are you on about ?”

“I know a bribe when I see one.” Answered the lady.

“And how ?” asked the headmaster, not liking what the woman was implying.

“Bribe seminar from the lab I used to work for” shrugged the woman.

“...”

“And YouTube of course.” She smirked.

A sigh rings through the air, and Leona's ears are pinned to his head when he looks up at Yuujirou from his place sitting on Ramshackle's couch.

It wasn't abnormal to see him here, of course, but the somber mood was. Usually, the two of them would be napping together or even just trying to hang out normally. Not that either of them were very good at that.

Leona had tried to tell himself that it wasn't his fault he was in this situation, with Yuuji glaring at him as he squirmed uncomfortably in his spot. Really, was it so bad that he tricked Grim into leaving them alone for the day? The little kit was always trying to interrupt them, keeping him from enjoying his quiet time with Yuujirou.

The panther huffs out a breath again, his tail thrashing behind him as he fixes the lion with another glare before turning to leave, looking like he might just... leave Leona there.

A pained whine escapes him before he can stop it, and Leona coughs in embarrassment to try and cover it up. Cute.

"Listen... 'm sorry. Don't leave. Just... stay near me. Please?"

"...I didn't expect that from you." Is all that Yuujirou says, turning back to him with a quirk to his brow as he starts studying the lion, obviously confused by that statement.

"I mean it."

He states, insistently, getting up and crossing the room all in one swift movement to face the hybrid properly. After a moment, spent assessing how Yuujirou would react, he wrapped his arms around him, sighing into the embrace.

Leona leans down, possessive in the way that he leaned over the jaguar to rest his chin on his shoulder, a soft purr rumbling through him as he gently tried to rub against his neck to scent him in apology.

It takes more than a few seconds, but Yuujirou eventually exhales with a roll of his eyes, returning the hug and chuffing affectionately.

His tail still sways in irritation, but the panther lets Leona take the comfort he needs, slowly starting to stroke his hair. "Don't do it again. I won't be so forgiving, next time."

"Mmhm. Promise."

Editing Highlight - Trey’s flashback

Trey pushed his glasses up his nose and he continued, “The Rosehearts family is a family of doctors who is very close to the Rose Kingdom Court, even if they aren’t noble themselves. Riddle’s parents, especially his mother, Lady Mira, is the Rose Kingdom’s Queen’s private doctor and one of the strongest magicians in the kingdom. It’s especially well-known that she wished for Riddle to be the same, maybe even surpassing her one day. That’s why everything from what time he wakes up to what time he goes to sleep, and even what academic programs he’ll do is decided for him.”

Trey always remembered that innocent look. The way those grey-eyes widened in awe when he put his very first (successful) strawberry tart on his bakery window. Though Trey could notice other things from the boy, like the bags under his eyes and some red marks on his hand. Which was weird. From his clothes, he looked like he came from the upper-class district like Che’nya, unlike Trey’s simpler middle-class outfit. A noble perhaps? A member of the court?

Before he could even wave his hand. The boy looked to the side with surprise and… A bit of fear? He glanced at the tart one last time before running away. And Trey just stood there, more confused and curious than ever.

Grim paled. “Geh… Everything…?”

Trey nodded. “What he can eat, what he should wear, and what sort of friends he can make were all decided for him. To answer his parents’ expectations, especially his mother, Riddle kept quiet and did his best. And by the time he was 10 years old, he had perfected that unique magic of his.”

“Is this the house?”

“Nyeah~ Look! There he is!”

Che’nya pointed to the second-floor window where a little boy was sitting next to it. There he was! The boy who stopped at the window bakery yesterday. The boy was writing something in his book, looking so serious.

“Che’nya!” Trey hissed when the cat-boy decided climbed the rose bush surrounded the house. Like it or not, Trey had to follow him, worried that Che’nya might ruin their chance. Damn it. Why did he like to go through bushes instead of around him?

Trey managed to crawl out just when Che’nya started shouting. “Nyaho~!”

The red-haired kid shot his head out, nearly dropping his book as he looked down. “E-Eh?” He was confused, Trey understood him. After all, what were some random kids suddenly appeared in your yard and shouting at you?

“Hey, want to play with us~” Che’nya shouted without any preamble or something. “It’s a beautifur day~!”

The kid blinked in confusion. He looked into the room before looking at them again, hugging his book close to his chest. “I can’t. I’m supposed to be studying now.”

“Myah…” Che’nya pouted. “Don’t worry just for a bit~”

“I can’t mama will be angry-” Suddenly he turned his head and Trey could see his eyes widened and the same fear that he saw that day was back. “I-I was just about to close the window.” He turned around, giving them a small shake of his head before closing the window.

“Mew~ He’s no fun~” Che’nya sulked. “Though I heard his mowmew is scary.”

Trey looked back to the window. He could see the boy again from here. He wondered… Maybe he could visit him again when he wasn’t studying.

So, there’s a change of sequence. The scene with Riddle collaring another students is now at the beginning while the rest of the flashback still follows canon.

This chapter is actually an experiment on expanding the characters backstory. Starting with Riddle. In the original, back before Ghost Marriage, while I always consider that the Rosehearts family is not royalty, they might be a noble or even member of the court. However, after all the reveal and translation, I made them just a upper-class citizen, but still close to the Queen because I said so.

I remember that I got a comment that they prefer the canon flashback, which is understandable, but again, this was supposed to be an experiment because if I ended up always following the canon, the story probably wouldn’t be as expand as right now.

“do you even lift bro?” extra notes i - iii:

I finally finished rereading all my “do you even lift bro?” stories! Man, I feel like I wrote them ages ago. As I mentioned before, I have been going back to do grammatical edits and what not. In the process, I’ve also been noting down my thought process for writing these pieces, and little easter eggs I put in for fun~ This extra notes will contain my thoughts from versions i to iii! 

*please do not read if you haven’t read “do you even lift bro?” ver i - iii. 

The title came to me immediately upon reading the request hahah. originally, it was meant to just be fluffy and cute... but I think it’s actually pretty funny. To me, at least hahah. 

Divus’s was the one exception, but i’ll get into that later.

The reader personality was based on one of my ocs. She was also the oc in my special Malleus x OC story, “bright eyes.”

I went with her because she was an OC, who, in my opinion, is the epitome of a optimistic fangirl lmao. If you’ve read “bright eyes” then I think you’d understand what I mean hahahah. 

For ver i--I think I definitely wrote Riddle’s first. followed by Leona, Azul, Malleus, Kalim, Vil then Idia. 

One of my best friends is a super huge Riddle stan (if you’re reading this, hi sis!) so I wrote his story primarily with her energy in mind. In short, she would most definitely bench press Riddle. 

Her energy + the base reader personality makes Riddle’s story one of the most fun actually. His reader is probably the most mischievous ones--which I thought balanced out well with Riddle’s actual personality. 

Leona’s story is heavily influenced by pride dynamics. It’s common knowledge that it’s the female lions who hunt hence why in Afterglow Savanna--the women are stronger. Leona is royalty, so I assumed that from a young age he’d be told to wed a strong woman. 

I also need to note that Leona is described as respecting women. here’s the thing, I’m pretty sure it’s specifically women from Afterglow Savanna because they could bench press him. That’s not to say he doesn’t respect all women--he probably just puts women from Afterglow Savanna on a different standard because of his experience with them. Either way, you surprised him greatly, and assume that Leona will not be able to look you in the eye for awhile.

Azul’s story specifically takes place after Jamil SR Lab Coat episodes and Azul’s R PE Uniform episodes. I found their relationship funny, and thought it would be fun to continue off from there. 

Most of Azul’s stories come from me just wanting to fluster the hell out of Azul... that being said, I did delve a bit into the magic of TWST for this one. I remember it was Crowley (was it in the prologue?) who noted that magic is dependent also on how much someone believed in their ability to do something. This is why Azul falls down haha, his will faltered and he stopped believing. 

Jamil doesn’t get a break at all, doesn’t he? The reader and Jamil actually vibe really well because they both understood enough about Kalim to know what he was doing.

I think I remember being pretty stuck on which one to do for this. I think it was reading Jamil’s SSR Dorm Uniform story that really made me have an ‘aha’ moment on how to write it--since something like this happens on there. 

Surprisingly for Vil, once I had figured out that I wanted to write him getting mobbed, and being saved by his reader--it flowed out really fast from there. 

For Vil, I always end up bringing up the issue that he’s something like a celebrity and you are one in the million who adore him. I thought that this was just one way to sort of tackle your relationship together. 

I really enjoyed highlighting how you love Vil different from the rest who adore him. The importance of how you see his flaws and still love him--especially because as an influencer Vil has a certain pressure to appear in a certain way. 

Idia’s was the last one I wrote, but I had a lot of fun because I stuffed it full of references. I figured that Idia’s thought process would be more of him thinking life as a game, that’s why he uses terms like support level often in my writing. 

On that note, I know ‘Gao-Gao Dragon-kun’ is a reference to Tamagotchi, but I decided to just merge up Tamagotchi and Pokemon in this case. Hence why ‘Gao-Gao Shield and Sword’ existed lmao. I didn’t put too much effort in that and just switched ‘Shield and Sword’’s order HAHAH. I did consider making it ‘Gao-Gao Gun and Wand’ though. 

‘Water Crest: The Seven Dorms’ is a reference to Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I felt incredibly clever when I came up with that HAHAH. But also, when he references support levels, he’s talking about a gameplay in Fire Emblem. For people who aren’t familiar with this, essentially, FE has a system wherein the more you use two units together the likely their support will rise. The supports go from C-B-A-S, with S as the highest. When Idia says he works hard on S Support, he literally means he went out of his way to spend time with you and befriend you. Isn’t that cute? When he references SS Support, it actually doesn’t exist HAHA, but he didn’t realize there was “another level” sort of thing xD

When I write funny Malleus stories, the other members of Diasomnia are likely to be hiding in the bushes. Most funny stuff probably fly over Malleus’s head so... The other Diasomnia members pop in to react hahaha.

To Malleus, your tendency to treat him as a regular person, and not treating him as a lord--makes him incredibly fond of you. It’s because you treat him as an equal, that makes him treat you as an equal. I also think this was the piece where he started calling you “bright light.” There’s no deeper meaning to it, he really just sees you as a bright light--like a brilliant star. You, literally, light up the world. :,) 

Ver ii order of writing--Ashton, Dire, Divus. I had come up with the premise of Divus first though. 

I think Dire was the hardest one for me, because I kept worrying about things like--’what if he’s not actually like this,’ or ‘what if that isn’t how he would actually act’ etc etc. but I think it turned out pretty alright.

Dire, for all his claims of being a kind person--I think actually is a kind guy. He does have the tendency to be a little manipulative and whatnot... but at the end of the day he does care.

For Divus, I sniffed GBF Belial’s Perfume because I wanted to get inspired (and I sort of headcanon they smelled alike) but it went horny too fast. 

Divus is naturally intrigued with you, and he’s also very aware you’re attracted to him. So it amuses him to fluster you. He’s very aware of how good-looking he is, and he doesn’t mind flirting with people.

How I chose to portray Divus is actually based on how @avionvadion writes Divus in her story “Once Upon A Dream.” please check it out! It’s a super cute fanfic about a girl in Twisted Wonderland~ 

Ashton... I was surprised at how fast I was able to write his piece actually hahha. I went with a no braincell, but cheerful and all-around good guy. 

I don’t think there was a lot of Ashton to really research about, but... I just tried to make him good guy Gaston... for now xD 

Ver iii--it went Floyd, Jamil, Jade, Rook, Lilia, and Epel.

There’s this scene in, I think, the first episode of Avatar: The Legend of Aang where Appa wouldn’t fly. So Sokka just straight up... insulted? Appa? i guess. Then Appa suddenly COULD fly, and Sokka was just straight up amazed and yelling... Yeah that was my primary inspiration for Floyd’s story.

Floyd... Floyd is twins with Jade, let’s not forget that. I’m sure Floyd is actually really intelligent, he just isn’t in the mood to be sometimes. Hence he’s able to really understand something when you say something seriously. I think Floyd would always take you seriously when you say something important. 

For Jade’s story, my inspiration was the story of my dad tripping. It was only witnessed by him and mom. My mom talked about how terrifying it was to watch a six foot tall man fall down. My dad just found it funny. Hence, I thought, Jade should trip. 

Other than that, the general idea I wanted was that it’s our time to pamper Jade. He’s one of the two characters who I know would love to pamper his reader. So this was his lover’s chance to pamper him. Also, he’s also one of two characters who would have an idea about your insane strength.

Jamil, much like Jade, is the type of guy who pampers the people he loves. He doesn’t take to being pampered too well. He’s not used to it. 

Jamil also appreciates getting his hard work recognized, so I’m sure he has a praise kink hahah. He’s also easily embarrassed. I think Jamil needs someone who acknowledges all of his hard work, who also accepts his mistakes. 

Epel was the last one to write, and actually a genuine struggle for me. I always... end up writing something in relation to his struggles with his face and femininity. Epel is someone who wants to be seen as a real man, so I worried about what he’d think of a reader who had the strength he wanted. 

I figured if it was anyone else, it might inspire jealousy in Epel--but because it was his lover, he was able to push aside his negative feelings and look at the bright side. You’re truly his ideal, and he wants to learn how to be strong from you.

Rook was another tough one. There did exist a version where you surprise him... but the more I thought about it, the more I found it impossible for Rook to not know or not have an idea. He’s the other character who would have an idea about your strength.

On that note, thinking about a romantic partner for Rook... I thought what was best was someone who wouldn’t find him odd. Who would actually try to learn about him. 

Lilia’s... was also pretty easy given he enjoyed hanging upside down a lot in the main story hahah. Lilia cute, I love him. Also, when will Lilia stop messing with Idia? Probably never tbh. 

I touched upon the topic of mortality and immortality, but because I wanted this to be lighthearted--I chose not to pursue it. It would drag the mood down, but honestly--it’s something we can’t ignore and is very integral in relationships with Lilia or Malleus.

Editing Highlight - “Lilia. Lilia Vanrouge.”

“AHH!” All of them looked up and saw the young boy, now floating upside down above them.

“Th-this guy teleported here!” Grim shouted, nearly falling off from his seat.

“Are thou curious about mine age? Kufufu.” Vanrouge turned around and slowly floated down, feet landed on their table. “I hast this baby-faced visage, yet as the sirrah with spectacles quoth, I be not at an age where one would speak to me a child.”

“Baby-faced…” Clover muttered.

Vanrouge just smiled and looked at them one by one. When his sight landed on Jonah, Deuce could’ve sworn his smile widened. Why though…

“There's no want to look from afar, just join up and speak with us.” Vanrouge continued, tearing his gaze away from the eye-patch boy. “Art we not all students of the like academy? We at Diasomnia shall aye welcome thou with ope arms.”

Standing near their table were two teenage boys, one has light green hair, who Deuce recognized from their alchemy class, while the other has silvery-white hair. None of them talk actually, which made things a bit uncomfortable.

Ace leaned toward Deuce. “Yeah, probably not,” he whispered.

Vanrouge chuckled. “Fufu. Apologizes for dropping 'i thy meal. Till we meet again.”

He jumped off the table. The two other students stepped aside when the shorter boy landed. Giving one final glance and a mysterious smile, Vanrouge walked away, and the two others followed him.

So, yesterday I decided to edit the first 5 chapters of The Crimson Tyrant for the FF.net update. I know I can't write Lilia's old man poetic speech and I sort of give up in future chapters. So, for the sake of consistency I used lingojam Modern English to Old English because it's easier. I am so sorry for butchering Lilia's speech 🤣🤣🤣🤣

As for the update schedule, I will be following Team Avalon's English fandub update.

Editing Highlight - Cater’s Vlog

"Yosh! Everyone!” Cater waved to his phone scene. It was on selfie mode, recording-live for his magicam. “We’re here, live at the Heartslabyul Kitchen!” He walked backward toward Trey and put his arm around his shoulder. “Tell me, Masterchef Trey, what are we doing today?”

Trey chuckled as he tied his apron behind his back. “Special mont blanc with some tutty-fruity topping!”

“Oh~ Sound delicious!” Cater then moved the camera to the group of first-years who are preparing the chestnut on an oven tray. “And these are our mini helpers! Say hi, boys!”

Grim was excited, waving his paws to the camera, while Ace threw up a peace sign and he threw his arm around Jonah himself looked confused. Glancing at his friends, he decided to give an awkward wave. Meanwhile, Deuce was sulking in the background. You can imagine the gloomy rain cloud hovering above him.

"Hey, what's happened to him?" Cater asked, turning the camera to Ace.

Ace visibly winched. "Chick shock..."

"I've been lied to for sixteen years..." muttered Deuce. Lucky for him, it didn’t get caught by the camera. Cater focused the camera on himself again.

“We’ll be recording bits by bits through the process. So stay tune~!”

“Guys, look at this…” Cater, on selfie mode, lifted the finished mont blanc. It was decorated with whipped cream and canned fruit on top and sprinkled with powder sugar. “Look at this delicious delicacy… And check this out!”

Lowering the smaller moth blanc from the camera, he revealed a bigger mont blanc on the counter, with Ace and Grim singing ‘TA-RA-RA-RAAA!’

“That has to be the biggest mont blanc I’ve ever seen!” Cater cheered with the others cheering in the background. “Great work, guys!”

The camera was in selfie mode again, with Cater on the front and the other showing up on the back, posing and waving. “That’s all for today, guys! Thank you for tuning in~”

A few seconds later, Cater posted a picture to end the great moment. He stood in the very front, holding the camera in one hand and his mont blanc in the other. Everyone else also had their mont blanc in their hand. Grim looked like he tried to be front and center, but Ace pushed him down and Deuce looking so stiff in the picture. Trey and Jonah were at the back with Trey tipping his head and Jonah giving an awkward wave. They were all smiling, raising their pastry, looking all happy.

*knock knock*

In a dim lilted room, Riddle put his book down as he said, “Enter.”

A group of Heartslabyul students walked into his room with terrified looks on their faces. They should be. They had broken the Laws of the Queen of Hearts Number #256: One should not drink lemonade with honey when it’s past 8 in the evening.

Rule breakers should be punished. They mustn't get away with it.

Riddle stood up from his seat as he slowly walked toward the students. “I hope you understand what you have done…”

Even their pleading and kneeling didn’t faze the prefect. Riddle clenched onto his magical pen again, changing it into his staff as he looked at the miserable students, summoning a magic circle around their necks.

“[OFF WITH YOUR HEAD]!”

This chapter is a personal favorite of mine, probably in the Top 5 of The Crimson Tyrant adaptation. Originally it was just going to be some boring snippets of the boys cooking but then I decided to make it like Cater vlogging because I just know he would do something like this.

Some additional snippets including Deuce's brief chick shock and finally changing the small mont blancs into a one big moth blanc like in the game. Also, I changed that Riddle didn't have his magicam account yet since I reread his Dorm Uniform Personal Story and found out that it happens during the Canon Timeline.

Heh. Remember those time when things are simpler?

This chapter has the same mood whiplash as Chapter 80. We begin with some cute shits (baking together vs Riddle inviting Jonah to his tea party), only for something dark happening in the next scene (Riddle collaring vs Azul’s mafia business). I swear this is intentional.

Editing Highlight - That One ADeuce Moment

Deuce was still breathing heavily, but he didn’t look feral. In fact, he looked… terrified? “I-I screwed up again…” the blunette whispered, not with an angry tone, but in a sad, almost guilt-filled, tone. “I promised myself that I’d be a model student for sure this time, and yet-!”

Ace blinked, not understanding the situation. Deuce lowered his head again, hugging his trembling arms. “I’m not supposed to do that…” he whispered again. “I can’t make mom cry again…”

Mom? “You had a rough time at home?” Ace tried to ask.

Deuce shrugged a little. “More like I was a bad boy.” Ace raised an eyebrow at him. Deuce? A bad boy? That doesn’t sound right. But then again, he didn’t know him so well. And from that fight, Ace knew he had experienced. “My mom didn’t take my delinquent lifestyle well. So…”

“So, you want to change,” Ace finished his sentence, in which Deuce nodded.

“Yeah.” He gritted his teeth. “And yet… Damn it!”

“Hey!” Ace shook his shoulder again. “Listen to me.”

Deuce was silent for the next few seconds, so Ace took it as the sign that he was listening. “Think about this: Isn't enduring all of that is also a part of being a model student?”

Deuce’s breath hitched. He looked up, blue eyes staring at Ace in confusion. “Eh…?”

Ace dropped his hands from Deuce’s shoulders. “Too bad I didn’t get to join in the fight,” he grumbled, rubbing the back of his neck. “You took care of them too fast.”

“Ace…”

Ace glanced at Deuce again. “Even model students have the right to be angry sometimes.”

Deuce gasped. The wind blew softly as the two boys stared at each other. Slowly Deuce smiled. It was just a small smile, but Ace took this as a victory on his side, smiling back at him. He didn’t know how Deuce’s family situation was, but he wanted to know. After all of the trouble they’ve spent together in two days, maybe they are ready to get to know each other better.

“It was at that moment Deuce Spade realized... He was gay.”

Something I realized after watching the English Dub that Deuce never actually ever mention about his dad. I do have a headcanon that both of his parents were divorced which lead him to becoming a delinquent. 

Another thing, I purposely didn’t write the part where Deuce tels his backstory because:  (1) I feel like it’ll be too long, (2) Ace and Deuce or Yuu and Deuce for that matter didn’t have that strong connections to share deep secret. This is different with that time Trey tell about Riddle’s past or those therapy arc because that’s the answer the gangs want, meanwhile Deuce doesn’t shout out his backstory immediately, (3) Too many telling. Even with Trey’s story about Riddle’s past in future chapter has some flashes in their childhood as they talk. I want to do the same as Deuce, but going back to the second point, I feel like Ace and Deuce doesn’t have that strong connections yet.

However, that doesn’t mean I will be cutting Deuce’s past entirely. I’ll be retelling it again, probably in the Christmas special or Wish Upon a Star event. I just really want Deuce to have strong bonds with others, especially Ace, before telling his past.

Another thing I noticed is that the way I write Ace is slightly less of a jerk than canon, I think. At least, that’s how I feel. I don’t know what you guys think.

Also, if anyone wondering it was Ace instead of Jonah and Grim. I have two reasons: (1) Splitting job. Jonah and Grim in chestnut picking duty while Ace and Deuce on groceries shopping duty (2)... A very early ADeuce moment. Other that KaJa, ADeuce is like my second possibly canon ship of the fic. Though... remember, this is before the Pomefiore Arc and those DEpel moments. Editing Hightlight - So, about that Memory Maze...

No no no no no. This couldn’t be good. Jonah started running. He needed to find the next rose arc bush. He needed to know what happens next. He needed to know what drove Senior Rosehearts to be a tyrant. He needs to know!

He ran straight through the next rose arc bush when he found one and found himself in a different room. It was a bedroom, with shelves filled with books but he could spot a single fluffy stuffed rabbit on the bed. This could be a kid’s room. Maybe this was Senior Rosehearts’ room?

*BANG!*

Jonah looked toward the opened door. He saw Senior Rosehearts’ mother dragging his son inside the bedroom by his arm.  ”How could you!” she snapped. “Not only did you skip out on studying to play, but you also ate something so sugary!?”

Senior Rosehearts was crying and looked terrified. He tried to pull his arm away, but his mother’s grip was too hard. He flinched when she continued. “Those two tempted you into doing it, didn’t they? I won’t allow you to spend time with those naughty children ever again!”

“I’m sorry, Mama!” he cried. “I’ll never do it again! Please forgive me-”

“Quiet!” she snapped as she threw her son. Senior Rosehearts tripped his footing and fell to the carpet floor of the room. “You’re the one at fault because you broke the rules! So, you’ll stay here until you have learned your lesson.” She sighed massaging her temple. She was mumbling when she walked out. “Ah, I knew I shouldn’t have given him so much free time. He must be trained more to become more perfect…”

Senior Rosehearts tried to follow his mother, but the bedroom door was slammed in his face, the sound of a lock could be heard from the other side. “Mama!” he cried, banging the door. “Mama, please! I’m sorry! I’ll be good! I’ll follow the rule! I’ll be a good boy! Please, open the door!”

He never got his answer. In his despair, he sunk to his knees, forehead pressed against the door, his tiny fist dropped to his lap. “Please… Please…”

The painful scene soon disappeared. Now Jonah understands why. Senior Rosehearts… He never had a choice but to follow the rules. If he goes against them, he would be punished. That was cruel. Even if Jonah couldn’t remember his parent, he knew that this isn’t how parents should treat their children, to demand the young ones to fulfill their high expectations. All those stress build up all those years brought Senior Rosehearts to his overblot state. And they saved him.

But… Did they though?

I'm not kidding when I say “The Crimson Tyrant” is the main template of the formatting in the fic. The 'therapy arc', 'memory maze', and 'staring showdown' are the constant elements that will always appear in every main arc. I’ve touch about ‘staring showdown’ and will be talking more about 'therapy arc' soon, but let's talk about the 'memory maze'.

The basic idea of the 'memory maze' is I want Jonah to be able to interact more because, in the end, the canon whole episode is an exposition dump with the character monologuing their whole past and feeling. I just son’t want the overblot victiom and the mc just standing around and watching a clip show. I need some movement, and thus the maze was created. I think I sort of want it to be sort of anime-esque with the MC floating around and reacting to the other character's past and ended up with a heartwarming friendship speech. But of course, I have to Disney-fied it, so Riddle's memory maze has the Alice in Wonderland's rose maze and the court sequence.

There are some minor changes between fic and canon, but the edit I made is nearing the end with Riddle's mother locking him in his room. Previously, he was locked in a basement, but a thought suddenly came: "Riddle's mom might be bad, but maybe not that bad...?" I don't doubt some awful parents would lock their children in the basement, but I just can't see Riddle's mom as one of them.

Editing Highlight - Cater Diamond "Heartslabyul's Nine Days King" and the about the Five Seconds Duel

“In the end, they refuse to follow the rule,” Riddle sighed, setting his teacup and its saucer on the table. Trey stood in front of his table, nodding at the prefect.  The red-haired boy huffed. “Alright then.”

Trey stared at the prefect, eyes slightly widened. “What?”

The corner of Riddle's lips curled up. “You sound surprised, Trey,” he said, standing up. “This is the perfect opportunity to show them what happens to children who break the rule. They will regret everything they had done.”

Cater's breath hitched. He pressed his back against the wall near the prefect's bedroom. His trembling hands were clutching the end of his jacket. This is not real, right? There's just no way Ace and Deuce would dare to challenge Riddle to a decisive match for the seat of the dorm leader, right? They can't be that reckless. Riddle was already powerful back when he challenged him and took his crown, who knows how strong he is now. They wouldn't survive five seconds against the prefect.

The sound of a door opening and closing brought Cater back from his thought. Trey stared at him in concern. “You've heard it?” he asked.

Cater looked down at his shoes. “Are they for real?”

He heard Trey sighed. “I tried to stop them, but there's no changing their mind.” The greenette stepped forward, putting a reassuring hand onto Cater’s shoulder, somehow managed to ground him.  “Let’s just hope it doesn’t end up causing more trouble.”

Cater nodded. “Yeah...”

Something that always interests me is the speculation/theory of Cater being the previous dorm leader before Riddle, and to be honest, I'm kinda interested to explore this. Something about Cater interests me because he looks so goddamn secretive. He smiles as much as Kalim, but there's something about the little dialogues in Chapter 4 and several rumors throughout Tumblr that got my attention. Since he always moves around, I feel like Cater would have a mindset that "all happiness won't last forever and fate would find a way to rip them away from him". From this speculation, if Cater ever is a dorm leader before canon events, it would be something that he proud of. He was proud and happy, however, fate decides to throw in Riddle Rosehearts who takes the position within the first week. The reference of 'nine days king' came from Lady Jane Gray, England's 'Nine Days Queen" before Queen Mary arrive. To add the salt, Riddle might use Off With Your Head at Cater, similar to how Lady Jane Gray was executed by beheading. Why am I so dark? Me: *listening to Marina and the Diamond's Teen Idle* Is this Cater's theme song?

Another thing about this chapter is the battle scene. We know that the moment Riddle unleashed Off With Your Head, we know the match is over. But something about that doesn't sit well with me. Yes, Off With Your Head is OP, but as Leona said "no magic is invincible". I love to give a bit of hope in the battle, and making this match over by five seconds will crush that hope. Ace and Deuce's skill may be bellow Riddle, but at least they can try to beat Riddle. Unlike if Riddle uses Off With Your Head, Ace and Deuce doesn't stand a chance and makes the fight boring. The tension would be there as well, especially since we have an overblot battle after this. If they can't even beat Riddle in his normal form, will they stand a chance against him in his overblot form? This tension and the feeling of satisfaction when they finally win would feel even more rewarding.

Also the progression from stranger-to-sudden enemies-to-puppy crush between Jonah and Riddle, re-reading it feels like we've progressed so far.
