☆ YEONJUN
constantly keeping his hand on your waist. such an action may seem futile and unnoticeable considering yeonjun’s the one doing it, but it still makes you confused. yeonjun’s known to be flirty, a literal heartthrob wherever he goes. he’s also very touchy, easily hugging someone or putting his arm around their shoulder. but it’s only truly with you that he lets his hand rest on your hip, finger hooked into one of your jeans’ belt loops.
at first he started doing it at parties, after finding you in the crowd, arms circling your waist to keep you from getting lost in the wave of people. it continued at normal hangouts, laughing alongside his friends as his fingers fiddled with the hem of your top. then it happened when you two were alone, lounging on your couch while watching a movie. there wasn’t anything or anybody he had to protect you from, but he still slid his hand between the backrest and your body until you were practically glued to his side, his arm comfortably holding onto your waist.
you’re not sure why he does it; maybe to show others you’re not available– you are though, or to purposely tease you and make your heart skip a beat– something that already happens a lot in his presence. but one thing you know for sure is, it certainly doesn’t help your already weak heart.
☆ SOOBIN
being oddly protective of you. soobin is the least confrontational person you know, so it didn’t surprise you when he kept his mouth shut as one of your classmates teased him in class. that’s initially how you two became friends, him nursing your wounded fist after you punched the bully right in the nose for calling him a lanky nerd. 5th grade sure was wild. the following years, soobin tried his best to defend you like you defended him back in the day but again, he’s the least confrontational person you know. however, his best friend-instincts took over him when a guy tried to hike up your dress at the graduation party. you nursed his wounded fist after and the two of you became even closer. after the “fight of the century” soobin swore to himself he would protect you. at first, you found it funny, trying to stop yourself from blushing when he would raise his voice at whoever decided to bother you that day. you don’t really know when it started but with each new time, his best-friend protection act would slowly turn into something that held a lot more feelings than just platonic ones. the way he would look at you to see if you were alright, or the way his hand would slid into yours, or even the one time he called you his partner instead of his best friend. everything was slowly changing, and you didn’t even know if soobin was even aware of it himself.
☆ BEOMGYU
calls you his girlfriend. the first time he did it, you thought he was just joking around, trying to tease you. so you laughed it off, attempting to hide the way your heart fluttered at the thought of you being his actual girlfriend. but the second time, a week or so later, you were even more confused. did beomgyu think you two had something going on? did he find out about your old crush on him? you really didn’t know why he started calling you his girlfriend, since none of his other actions showed he felt anything except platonic feelings for you. he stopped after the fourth time, after he noticed your disoriented and clearly disheartened expression. weeks passed and not once did beomgyu explain his old but short habit to you. but then, months later, when you had almost forgotten about the whole ordeal, beomgyu did it again. to be honest, him calling you his girlfriend that time was in fact beneficial for you– you refused to talk any longer to the creep begging for your number. but the way the word rolled off his tongue, a hint of arrogance and a ton of proudness, made you reach for his hand, acting like the role he had assigned you. tension followed after, for weeks, and your heart continued to long for him. if only you knew you were the only thing on his mind whenever someone said the word “girlfriend”.
☆ TAEHYUN
constantly buys you things. it may seem shallow at first, but whenever taehyun brings you a small trinket or whatever food you were craving at that moment, your heart fills with joy. it’s not the way he spends money for you, but the way he looks at you when he gives it to you, eyeing you to see your neutral expression change into a happy one. taehyun’s a great listener, so he knows all your orders and favorite things by heart, which only makes it easier for him to empty his bank account for you. he swears you’re not special, or at least not more important than the rest of his friends– for whom he rarely ever buys anything– but he can’t really stop his brain from thinking of you when he sees something pretty or tasty at the mall. the dainty necklace around your neck is the literal proof of his favoritism towards you. he had given it to you on your graduation and you hadn’t taken it off since. it was a symbol for your friendship, he said, something to remember the many years you spent together, but the shiny “T” letter pendant made your heart swell every time you felt it against your skin. in all truth, taehyun was just waiting for you to notice the letter pendant of your name he wore on his necklace and hid, carefully, under his shirt collar.
☆ HUENING KAI
he constantly mentions you two in his future. you and kai have been friends since the two of you were in diapers and basically experienced all your first together. spending all those years together, in the same neighborhood, school and friend groups lead to many talks about your futures, sometimes wiping anxious tears away or doubling over from laughter at the mention of so many possibilities. it was a normal thing for you two, getting together and just talking about whatever would be on your mind at that moment. every conversation was different but one thing never changed, the way huening kai wouldn’t forget to mention you in his future plans. he would have pictured everything out, you two living next to each other in your own homes, working across the street from each other, adopting pets at the same time so they could be friends, meeting every friday for a ramen and movie night… whenever you were worried about what the future prepared for you, kai would comfort you, reminding you that no matter what happened later, he would always be there. it always reassured you but unfortunately, you never had the guts to tell him that you’d prefer to live together later, spend your work lunch breaks together, adopt a pet together, and turn every night into a movie marathon.

the words I say, and the words I mean | h.k
Tumblr media
pairing: Huening Kai x gender neutral!reader genre:  fluff, a touch of angst, high school!au, childhood best friends to lovers!au warnings: cursing word count: 2.5k notes: this was originally a story for jay written for chip as a lovely birthday present, I've repurposed it for hyuka because I think he'd fit the lovely lovestruck trope just as well :) hope you enjoy! On a cool golden afternoon on the cusp of winter, Kai falls for you again.
Jay (Enhypen) Ver. | TXT Masterlist
Tumblr media
At precisely five fifty-three on a Friday afternoon of a crisp fall-turning-winter day, Kai comes to this conclusion:
He says a lot of shit.
Which, in hindsight, any of his friends could have probably told him. Taehyun for certain—and Beomgyu too just by virtue of him being a paragon of evil or something. But there’s that whole saying about having to realize things about oneself by oneself, or whatever, because you’ll never listen to anyone else, not for real.
Or maybe there isn’t a saying. Maybe someone just told him that and he’s remembering it now.
Doesn’t matter. The point is, Kai walks into the coffee shop where you work at exactly five fifty-two pm on this wonderful Friday afternoon in the crisp intersection between fall and winter where the sun is beginning to set noticeably earlier but not so much so that it fucks up his entire brain, locks eyes with you behind the counter, and says:
“Hey, doofus.”
Which is certainly a substitute—if not a very good one—for what he says in his brain:
You look really beautiful in this lighting, and I kind of want to kiss you.
You roll your eyes and it’s still beautiful, somehow, in the golden afternoon sunlight spilling through the cafe window, and once again Kai is reminded of how hard he’s fallen for every single bit of you—the childhood best friend who lives next door, who’s seen him from his grubby little toddler days to his ratty pre-teen years to his ungodly mess of existence in this last year before college. You’ve seen everything about him, he’s seen everything about you, and if Kai hadn’t realized it before (a year ago, you fell asleep in the passenger seat as he was driving the two of you home from school and he got a slap of cold reality from God Herself when he looked over to see drool trickling down the side of your face and the first thing he thought was cute) he’d certainly realize it now, at five fifty-two pm on a Friday afternoon at the cusp of fall-turning-winter where the sunlight shines so warm on your half-annoyed, half-fond expression that Kai can proudly say is reserved solely for him.
But it’s kind of like a second realization of love, he guesses. Because apparently once wasn’t enough. And it comes in the form of him calling you a doofus when he just really wants to kiss you instead.
He really, really says a lot of shit. More specifically, a lot of shit he doesn’t mean. Mostly because you don’t know how he feels, and he’s too scared to ask if you might feel the same way.
“Good afternoon to you too, doofus,” you snip, sliding a cup of coffee across the counter. He hands you the exact amount for the drink like clockwork because it’s a routine at this point, and then, also in routine, he eyes it exaggeratedly.
“There’s no poison in this, is there?”
There it is. Again. There’s no poison in this, is there?
How about this instead:
Thanks for the drink, I really love you.
You roll your eyes again and he has to curb the smile on his face, in case it betrays the way his heart is pounding in his chest like it does a lot these days at the sight of you. “No, asshole,” you intone. “If I wanted to kill you, I’d make sure there was blood.”
“Aw, so you don’t want to kill me?”
I’d probably let you stab me for free.
“I’m waiting for the right time.” You snicker. “You know, Beomgyu already offered to help me hide the body.”
Kai would respond, and if he did he’d probably say something equally dumb that he didn’t really want to say because his heart keeps screaming for him to tell the truth of his emotions but his mind keeps telling it to shut the fuck up, but the door opens again with a little ring of bells and even though it’s now five fifty-four pm, six minutes from the end of your shift, six minutes are still six minutes and he’ll have to wait those six minutes to walk you home.
Your manager’s a bitch.
So he parks himself at a table, idly scrolling through his phone while sipping at the bitter Americano you gave him (perfect for keeping him somewhat awake for the late night studying that will definitely happen tonight), and also sneaking glances at you when he’s more or less certain you’re busy. He does good today, doesn’t manage to get caught staring even once before you disappear into the back, presumably to strip off your apron and clock out.
Soobin sends him about five cat pictures in the several minutes it takes for you to change. Kai giggles into his drink and hearts them all right before a shadow looms over his seated figure.
“What’re you laughing at?”
In response, he lifts his phone and watches a smile bloom across your face at the cat pictures. “They’re adorable,” you coo.
Kai’s brain reacts before his mouth does, which sucks because it only gives further proof to his realization earlier which he’d kinda hoped was a fluke but was pretty sure it wasn’t.
So are you.
He doesn’t say that, because he doesn’t have the guts. “Yeah, if only I could convince my parents to get one,” he pouts instead, pocketing the phone. “Let’s go home.”
The bells above the door chime merrily as the two of you walk out into the golden sunshine, a subtle warmth that curls even through the sharp bites of wind that nip at his nose and cheeks. When winter comes with its snow and ice, you’ll switch to taking the car home—him driving over to pick you up instead of walking in the snow—so he cherishes the walks for now, a bit of peace and calm in the silence of the neighborhood air.
Well, not exactly peace and calm. Because the two of you are best friends, and so you bicker, and most of that bickering gets pretty loud and your neighbors probably hate you both even if they haven’t said it out loud yet, but to Kai it feels peaceful anyway. Calming. A breath of fresh air, a moment in which he can forget about the stress of school and college applications and just focus on being here with you.
You’re telling him a story about work today, gesticulating wildly as you reenact some woman telling you that her drink wasn’t frothy enough, that she expected two full fucking inches of froth so you’d better shake it again or remake it. Kai laughs, and cackles, and commiserates when you say you’d like to hunt her down and put her six feet under, and all the time his heart feels like it’s blooming, blooming under not the sun itself but the light of your smile as you laugh with him.
Like a sunflower, he thinks. A sunflower, always chasing the sun across the sky.
Holy shit, Yeonjun’s poetry is rubbing off on him. This is terrible.
And then you laugh again, this brilliant sound that’s like a cross between a pig’s snort and wedding bells, and yeah. Okay. Whatever. Maybe Yeonjun’s poetry is fine. Because at least it’s getting things right.
“I never want to work in the food industry again,” you complain, shaking your head. Your scarf seems to be slipping around your neck and Kai’s fingers itch to rearrange it, but he keeps his hands to himself because you’ll notice it, right? You’ll notice the slipping scarf instead and then he won’t have to risk having you feel the tenderness in his fingers that isn’t supposed to be there because he’s only supposed to be your best friend, not someone who has a crush on you. “All the horror stories are so real.”
“Okay, but have you considered...” He pauses dramatically as you look at him, eyebrows raised. “Maybe you’re the problem.”
“Kai Kamal Huening—”
“If everything’s happening to you, I’m just saying, maybe there’s some correlation there—”
You punch him in the arm. Hard.
He wails.
“Oh my God, you fucking baby,” you hiss, all the while also holding your sides that are shaking with laughter as Kai flops to the ground, gripping his arm like you just attempted to cut it off. Good. Because he’s exaggerating, clearly, but only for your sake—so you can laugh. Just a bit. Enough to bring light back to your face that isn’t just from the sun.
“You punched me,” he whines, “and you’re calling me a baby?”
I’d let you punch me any day. And if I deserved it, I’d probably punch myself in the face, too. For you.
He’s going insane, he really fucking is, with the disconnect between the shit he says and the shit he wants to say. But the banter comes so easily, too easily—maybe that’s the reason why he can’t speak the words buried in his heart. Because it’s so much easier, so much simpler, to just pretend. To just bicker his way out of ever revealing anything to you.
“Oh my God, just shut up.” You haul him up and—holy shit, maybe he’s just some Victorian woman in disguise or whatever because he could swoon into your touch. He really could. But he doesn’t, because even to his dumbfuck lovesick heart, that’s overkill. “Come on, punch me. We’ll call it even.”
Kai stares at the arm you proffer to him, covered in the coat you’ve worn for several years at this point. He doesn’t know why, but for a moment, he can’t move. Can’t bring himself to.
Which is dumb as fuck. Because this is a thing you two have always done, jokingly hit each other at one point and when the other complains loud enough to cause a neighborhood ruckus, let them hit back to call it even. It started with your first fight as kids and it just...stayed. Until now. At this moment at sometime past six pm on a Friday evening, now, on a crisp fall-turning-winter day where wind has mostly carried away the coffee smell from your job and Kai is having a crisis about punching your arm.
But he has to do it. So—
He punches you.
Very softly.
Nothing at all like you punched him.
You blink. So does he.
“What the fuck was that, dude?” You narrow your eyes at him playfully, though something uncertain dances in your gaze. Alarm bells start ringing at full force in his brain—fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck—“Are you going soft?”
He’s looking at you and you’re looking at him and a gust of wind blows the scarf around your neck and fuck you still haven’t noticed that it’s loose and he wants nothing more than to grab it and fix it so you won’t get too cold but he can’t, now, because he’s already revealed too much by not punching you the way you (and he!) expected and the uncertainty is still there in your expression and FUCK he needs to say something, he needs to say something—
No, it’s because I like you so much it hurts.
“No, it’s because you’re weak and you wouldn’t be able to handle a real punch.”
You screech and Kai screams and then you’re chasing him down the block, one fist held high as you yell something like I’ll give you a real fucking punch to whine about and even as he runs away from you he can hear the laughter in your voice even as you spout bloody murder and promises of revenge behind him, your screams blending with his gasping laughter as he stops, sides heaving with cackles, and you bowl him onto the cold sidewalk that still feels warm, somehow, warm with your giggles as you slap him in the shoulder, threats of violence still dripping from your lips—
“I give up,” he gasps, tears squeezing out of his eyes as he tries to stop laughing. “I give up.”
In other words:
I’ll let you win, always, because your happiness means everything to me.
You collapse to the ground beside him on the cold concrete, and there has never been anything more beautiful, Kai thinks, than the medley of your cackling laugh fading in the air and your expression scrunched in giggling happiness as you sit up to face him. “Good,” you sniff, eyes sparkling in the fading sunlight. “Glad you know your place.”
Kai watches you stand, then extend a hand to help him up. His eyes linger on that hand, the hand he held so much as a kid, the hand he stopped holding in middle school because it’s icky and we aren’t dating, the hand he’s wanted to hold for several years now and even more so since last year when he saw you drooling in the car and thought you were so, so cute. He reaches up, takes it, and in the moment where your palms are connected, his heart aches, aches so much for him to just say—
I love you.
But you let go of his hand, still smiling, so oblivious to the way his heart sags and cracks with the weight of those three words he can’t say as the warmth of your palm leaves his, and he knows—it isn’t meant to be, you loving someone as ratty and messy and damaged as he. You’re best friends. Nothing less, but certainly nothing more.
So he leaves the words in his overflowing heart, locks them away with a cold key made of the sudden absence of your hand’s warmth against his. “Come on,” he says instead, smiling the crooked smile that you always say makes him look like a stupid little rugrat on the streets. But he gets the patented Kai Kamal Huening smile on your face in return, annoyance and exasperation and fondness all mixed into an expression that nearly explodes the box where he keeps those three words, eight letters, carefully locked away, so it can’t be too bad. Not really. Not if it gets him the sunlight of your smile on your face.
Nothing’s so bad, really, not even the weight of all the words he means but can’t say, not when you smile at him like this under the shimmering golden sunlight of a fall-turning-winter evening, not when the two of you are alone in the street glowing warm with laughter, not when it feels like nothing in the world can tear the two of you apart. It’s enough, really. Having you here, and knowing you’ll always be here, even if it means keeping secrets locked carefully away in his heart.
“Come on,” he repeats, and his smile isn’t even that strained as he jerks his head towards the end of the street. “The sun’s setting. Let’s get home.”

day fourteen of KINKTOBER → blowjob
w/ huening kai
warnings! : none!
Tumblr media
"It feels good when you... do that." kneeling between huening kai's legs was something you enjoyed a lot. Coming home after a long day, taking a shower is only your second favorite thing to do. Number one is putting your hair in a ponytail and sucking off Hyuka. You don't force anything, you just tease him until he eventually asks you himself, begging you to put him in your mouth.
You rested your hand on the base of his cock, while you focused on the tip, using your tongue to lick up on the side. You rubbed his thigh with your other hand, causing more friction to him, making his dick twitch some time. Kai leaned back in his chair, head tilted back as far as he can, hips pushing up into your mouth. The moan he let out at those times only made you go faster, making him louder with each move. "If you don't stop I'll cum into your mouth." Hyuka reached for your hand, grabbing your wrist to stop you, but not using much power as it really wasn't something he wanted. He wanted to cum into your mouth and watch you swallow his hot load as you looked him in the eye. He wanted you to suck him dry until he can't cum anymore.
"Please stop..." he now gripped your arm, pulling it a bit towards him, but his hips only slipped further down to let you have more access. You looked up searching for his gaze, but he couldn't look at you. It all felt so good he wasn't able to open his eyes or move any other part of his body from his hips. "Please, please.." you weren't sure anymore if he was begging you to continue or to stop, but either way he only wanted to cum anyway.
His moans turned into loud whines, a fist formed by his hand. You wanted to tell him all the thoughts those sounds created in your mouth, but you weren't about to stop for speaking. You had to finish him off before anything else. "I'm going to..." he couldn't finish as he came right into your mouth. "Fuuuuuuck." he whined, his whole body shaking as he cried out your name multiple times. "Why didn't you stop, hmm?" he asked breathing out heavily his voice still high as he was still enjoying the aftermath of his orgasm. "Now you're all dirty." he opened his eyes, lustful gaze looking at you. "Why don't you help me clean up?"

Failed confessions
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Huening kai x male! reader
Summary: idol!Kai and staff!Reader get to know each other then, their friendship leads to a confession
Tw: alcohol (drunk huening), that's it i think tell me if y'all find anything note worthy.
Wc: 12k+ 💀
Y'all the ending is messed up and ambiguous (take it however you want) also a bit rushed since i had to complete it and post it today itself.
Hope you like it! My writing has changed a bit me thinks.
Tumblr media
A deflated huening Kai emerged from the recording studio. Shoulders slumped, and head held down, deep in thoughts of how to improve, he sat down on the couch situated just outside the studio.
The area was deserted, no sound except for occasional chewing, unexpectedly a hand rested upon his head.
"Something wrong huening-ssi?" Y/n. One of the staff members Kai remembered.
"Ah no- maybe? It's just that I can't get this line in from the title track"
"Is that so? Look I don't know much bout the topic but I heard yeonjun was having trouble with it too, so don't worry you'll get it; for now how about we share this fried chicken I brought? Hmm?"
"Thank you so much l/n-ssi"
"No problem," he said ruffling huening's hair a bit.
-
Y/n entered the recording area and to no one's surprise, he saw the whole of TXT except taehyun sitting on the couch or talking to some of the other staff members.
Yeonjun was the first one to notice y/n's arrival, smiling he got up to greet them and give him a firm hug.
"Have you eaten?" Yeonjun asked.
Y/n stroked his nonexistent bread before replying.
"Yes I have, but what is it that you need? Hmm?" laughed y/n.
"Yah! Hyung is supposed to say 'no I have not' so we can go get something to eat also, even if you've eaten, you're coming with me," yeonjun said, grabbing y/n forcefully.
"June, you go ahead I'll meet you in the parking lot 'kay?"
"Just hurry up!"
Y/n jogged back up seeing only the maknae sitting there alone.
"Huening-ie you need something? Yeonjun and I are going to get something to eat, He is quite hungry. I'll bring you anything you want or maybe you can come with us if you want of course" y/n rambled picking up his phone, yeonjun's coat, and mask.
"Ah not now I'm going to record after soobin hyung finishes, but can you bring fried chicken? I really liked it when I tried it yesterday" he said giving a small smile.
"Of course, huening-ie" y/n said messing up Kai's dark locs before heading out.
-
Y/n peacefully rested at his house for once when he got a call from an unknown number. He begrudgingly picked up the call already tired, it was past 11 for god's sake!
"Hello?" Y/n said as soon as the line connected.
"Ah! Hyung, it's huening Kai, I got your number from yeonjun hyung, and I was wondering if you could accompany me to the studio.. producer called and wanted to finish with some final touches tonight, and I didn't want to trouble any other staff members so would you.." huening went silent not completing his sentence, not that it mattered.
Y/n didn't know why but despite being so tired, he said yes to the young boy.
-
"hello~" huening picked up y/n's call.
"Huening-ah, I'm outside your dorm come down kay?"
"Yes hyung" huening replied cutting off the line when y/n and his car came into the view.
Huening-ie happily sat down in the passenger seat thanking his hyung for coming on such short notice at almost midnight.
He didn't know why but he felt this certain type of excitement and curiosity that night with y/n. Maybe it was the cold night air or the clear sky or maybe y/n's company.
Maybe.
-
"Hyung, what will you do while I'm busy? You'll probably get bored- you should go home and get some sleep I'll ask soobin hyung to pick me up-" huening Kai babbled panicked, thinking y/n would get mad or won't ever talk to him because he had made y/n come with him so late; waking him up from his probably peaceful sleep.
"Huening-ah, I'm already here aren't I? Why would I let you call soobin and make him wake up so late? I'll wait for you to finish then we'll head back. Don't worry hyung will be here when you return" y/n eased away all of Kai's worries.
Huening feels warm, so so warm, he wonders if it's because of his hyung or the heater placed on the floor. He hopes it's the latter.
But he's scared.
-
Kai steps out of the room, he sees y/n sitting with his legs crossed on his phone playing a game. His heart almost stops when y/n unexpectedly looks directly into his eyes.
"Huening-ah! Done?" He asks, switching off the phone. He didn't know but it seemed like his voice was stuck in his throat denying any thoughts to voice out.
Still, he stuttered out a 'yes'.
Y/n ignored the stuttering and got up to pass all of Kai's belongings to him. Ruffling his hair once again y/n heads down to leave, seeing the little penguin not following him, he stops looking back at him.
"Huening-ah! Tired or what? Let's get you home, then get some rest 'kay? I'll be waiting in the car, don't be late or I'll leave you here
-just kidding" y/n teased.
"Hyung wait for me!" Kai's words echoed back to him in the almost empty building.
-
"Huening-ie,"
"Yes, Hyung?"
"Hungry?"
"Very much"
"Wanna get something to eat?"
"Yes please!"
-
Y/n parked his car in a very risky area all because of food and the boy with him.
"Huening-ie let's come back quick! I hope my car doesn't get towed" y/n let out his thoughts, and heard the boy laugh.
"Sorry hyung but yes we should hurry up!" He(Kai) said pulling the other.
-
"Hyung, you come to this place often?" Kai asks looking around the let lit cozy restaurant-type place.
"Yes, all the time. I think yeonjun was the one who brought me here, he said the ramen here is top-notch. Wanna try it?" Y/n asks looking him in the eye.
Though there were no malicious intents or anything bad about the way he looked at huening, but for some reason, huening couldn't hold eye contact. He almost immediately turned away which worried the older.
"Something wrong? You don't want the ramen? We can always order something else, huening" urges a worried y/n.
"It's not that hyung, I want to try the ramen, let's get it," he said forging a smile.
Y/n wasn't satisfied with the answer but he knew pressing the matter won't do any good so he stayed silent and complied.
"Alright let's go"
-
"Hyung we should do this often! But now I'm all sleepy" Kai said forcing down a yawn.
"I know right? I'll make sure we'd get here at least once a week- oh but will it be okay for you to eat out every week? Since you're an idol right? I don't want anything bad for you huening-ie, let's do this every 2 weeks" y/n said in the most serious tone ever then nodding his head as if he was agreeing with himself.
Huening Kai burst out in a laugh, clutching his sides.
"Yah! Why are you laughing?" Y/n asked getting all pouty.
"It's just that seeing you say all this with a serious face cracked me up" huening answers between his laughs.
"Yah!-"
-
Huening Kai who sat in his hyung's car wondered why even though the night had stretched out so much already, he didn't want it to end. He liked y/n's company, Kai thinks.
So then why in the world was Kai feeling this certain warmth with this inconvenient buzz (of bees) in his chest whenever his hyung would meet his eye or whenever he would ruffle his hair, or call out to him.
He truly wonders whether he likes y/n's company or y/n himself.
Even thinking about this scared him. He's not allowed to like y/n. Heck, he's not even allowed to like anybody, all because he's an idol. He's scared but he isn't going to do anything he tells himself.
As long as he has y/n's company with him, he doesn't need anything more. Him being there would suffice, Kai isn't going to be selfish and ruin everything.
-
"Huening-ie, we reached; don't you wanna get home?" y/n asked in a soft tone, hand yet again resting over the latter's hair.
"Reached already?"
"mhmm seems like our huening-ie was so lost in thoughts he spaced out, hmm?" Y/n said shaking the youngest's head playfully.
"Kai-ah, it's already so late go take yourself home or do you want hyung to drop you off till your dorm?"
"Ah, I'll go alone! I don't want to bother hyung anymore, you get home and get some rest, I won't hold you off any longer." Kai babbled shyly.
"Okay. Get home safe kai-ah" y/n said, clicking the button to unlock the passenger seat's lock.
-
Just as y/n stepped inside his apartment, his phone lit up. A message was displayed on it from huening Kai.
Huening kai
Hyung did you reach home?
3:01 a.m.
Y/n
Yes huening, but get some sleep now we don't want you feeling drowsy tomorrow do we?
3:01 a.m.
Huening kai
Yes
Good night hyung!
3:02 a.m.
Y/n
Good night Kai :)
3:02 a.m.
-
"Hi hyung!" Huening greeted y/n who was helping his team to decide what colors would suit the photo shoot that would be held in an hour.
"Hello, huening, here for the shoot right?" Y/n took a break from the discussion and let the other staff members continue.
Y/n saw the boy was not ready yet, given they just arrived.
"Go get ready then, I want to see how you all will look dressed up, given you always look good," y/n said pressing a hand to his head.
"yes hyung! But i want it to be a surprise- wait! Have you already seen the costumes? If not then it'll be a surprise if yes then it'll be no fun" he said slightly dejected at the idea.
"I have not, I was busy with the background and moving things from here to there, so I'm hyped to see it! The stylists will do a great job as always, I hope so"
"Huening-ie! Stylist noona is calling for you, let's go!" Yeonjun said waving his hand to get y/n and huening Kai's attention.
"Oh look June is calling for you, go! Hyung is right here" y/n said smiling at Kai.
-
"Hello huening" y/n said into the phone. Huening kai had called up y/n once again. These days huening would always be on his phone either talking to someone or chatting with 'someone' looking all giggly and smiley.
"Hyung! As you know taehyun's birthday is in a few days, so the group has given me the duty to go and make an appointment and pick up the cake tomorrow evening. I'll get bored alone so you have to come with me" huening said excitedly.
"Huening-ie, i told you I'm gonna be busy a few days just yesterday, but since you're asking so nicely, I'll come with you, just send me time and address or should I pick you up?"
"Pick me up! Then we'll go together"
"Okay" y/n gave a smile to the latter even though Kai wouldn't be able to see it.
-
"it's quite cold in here" huening said as the couple entered the pretty looking cake shop. The AC was on full blast in there with faux cardboard based cakes placed as showpieces by the glass door.
"Don't worry we'll leave soon enough after giving order" y/n replied giving the masked boy a side hug, while rubbing his bicep to heat them up.
"R-right" huening's hear beat stuttered from such a delicate and seemingly innocent action. Oh, how was his act going to continue if y/n would pull such tricks on him.
Sometimes he hated y/n, he hated the way their closeness wouldn't bother him at all, he hated himself for catching feelings. He thought if he'd just ignore them for a while they'd go away, but he was always proven wrong :(
-
Y/n entered their travel van filled with noises, such as- yeonjun being annoyed by huening because he was referring to yeonjun as a ‘noona’. Even though their blue hour era was over Kai didn’t let this joke of his die down.
Seeing y/n enter, yeonjun complained about this to his hyung- his saviour!
“Hyung! Look this brat is making fun of me!” He whined like a child.
Y/n looked over at Kai who just shrugged and said ‘it is what it is’ the older contained a laugh at Kai’s reply and patted a deflated yeonjun.
Huening watched the two, silent. He wanted to be close with y/n just like yeonjun was, he wasn’t jealous, right?
“What are you thinking about? Hmm. You look like you’re ready to kill someone” y/n said patting the young maknae.
“Dark Kai has returned” taehyun commented on the situation. To which beomgyu and soobin cackled. Soobin throwing himself on beomgyu laughing along with him.
Soon enough, their designated driver arrived and y/n had to say goodbye to the group for that day.
-
A random day, y/n thought it was. Nothing exciting or worth noting happened. Until when late at night when he gets a call from huening Kai.
Thinking it would just be a normal call- normal conversation, he picked it up.
“Hyunggg” huening Kai slurred his words. Concern clouded y/n’s mind immediately, thinking why and where the young boy would be. But just to make sure, he asked the most obvious question.
“Huening, are you drunk?” Kai’s heart hurt when his hyung didn’t address him like he always did, but nevertheless answered.
“Yes! How can you tell?!” Huening giggled as of y/n had uttered the most hilarious joke.
“It’s not that difficult to tell whe-" y/n was cut off mid talking buy kai.
“Hyungie, I want to meet you right now can you come?” Huening said getting all red just from the question alone.
“Alright tell me where you are? I’ll be there” y/n said already picking up some water on his way down to his car.
“That’s what I like about you so much hyung! You always assure me saying you’ll be there with me! You’re so likeable hyungg” kai said words being mixed up with small hiccups.
Y/n ignored the rambling on the call and set out navigating his way with the help of gps.
-
“Y/N HYUNG!” Kai yelled accidentally and laughed at himself, he was clearly out of it y/n noticed. Huening Kai reeked of alcohol. Y/n wondered why.
The older closed up the gap between them and attempted to take him to the car so he could take him home. Kai sensing y/n, immediately pressed up against him, hands by his chest and head lolled up on y/n’s shoulder.
Y/n made no attempt to move huening, instead he just stood in his place for a second, sighing and then, finally decided to peel off the latter away.
“Huening-ah let’s go home” said the only sober person present. Y/n took one of huening’s arm and put it around his shoulder and kept one of his(y/n’s) had at Kai’s waist to keep him steady.
The walk to his car was utterly slow. By the time they both reached it, huening Kai hurriedly detached himself from y/n’s grasp and cupped his hyung's face between his own fingers.
“Hyung, I have something to tell you” he said eyes big and round. Y/n placed his own hands right above huening’s before continuing.
“Kai-ah, whatever it is we can talk about it later when you’re sober, I don’t think you’re in the right mind right now.” Y/n said attempting to remove his hands from his face.
“No, hyung! It has to be now!” Kai said looking down at the floor in turmoil. Y/n gave up on arguing, he knew argument with a drunk man would lead him nowhere, so he said yes and got ready to listen.
“Alright go ahead, I’m right here” y/n said. Huening’s heart beat faster as if it would burst out because of it.
-
“Hyung..i-I like you, as in like like you, since the day we got to know a little more that night! I really like being with you hyung! an-and you make me so so happy, I just hope you feel the same for me because honestly I did all this drinking for some courage to confess, I even tried to forget them!
But then they wouldn’t just go away so I thought and thought about it day and night, and now here I am confessing to my hyung” huening Kai poured out all of his thoughts that had been on his mind and layed there as an open book for his hyung to read.
Y/n had been silent even after huening finished his 'confession'. This got huening worried. His stomach started coiling in fear. He couldn’t wait anymore!
“Hyung please answer me!” He pleaded, leaving y/n’s face and opting to hold onto y/n’s hands instead.
“Huening Kai, I..”

tapping buttons repeatedly, you and kai are both fully committed to winning the competitive game that you both decided to play.
the self-awarded kai who absolutely refuses to lose to you.
“you’re gonna lose, by the way.” kai says in hopes that his words will actually be true. “that’s what everyone says and then they lose” you say while laughing slightly.
with the slight roll of his eyes, he glances over at your screen and sees that he’s 600 points behind. he’s not taking that. he begins to tap his buttons faster than he was before in hopes of getting at least, slightly ahead of you.
you take notice of that and begin tapping your buttons exceedingly faster than he was. it feels like torture but hey, at least you’ll win.
“oh you’re definitely cheating because there’s no way…” “i’m not cheating i’m just better obviously.” he cocks his head backwards, obviously offended as he begins to flick your hand away from your buttons pathetically, while hoping that his attempts to make you lose work.
“okay no, that’s not fair at all,” you say as you begin to flick his hand away from his buttons while trying not to look away from your screen.
both of you are trying to make the other lose while also trying to focus on your own screens, still wanting to win.
kai, still an embarrassing 600 points away from winning begins to slap your hand playfully & begins laughing.
“you are so not fucking funny for that,” you say as you begin doing the same back because now it’s on.
you’re 150 points away and you refuse to let kai beat you to it. you’re staring at your screen intensely, waiting for your points to get you to the official “winner” screen.
as you’re both still messing around with each other, the game ends. you stop what you’re doing & cross your fingers. exhaling out a string of ‘please, please, please’ & ‘i swear to god’s, you see the long awaited “winner” screen pop up & begin clapping and laughing in kai’s face.
“AHAHAH, I TOLD YOU I’D WIN!” you say before dancing & sticking your tongue out at kai.
“okay okay, yeah whatever. you beat me! let’s go claim our prizes and get out of here!” he says before walking & dragging you along with him.
you both make it up to the prize concession stand and wait for the worker to assist you.
“hello, how are you? would you like me to calculate your final tickets?” the female worker says with a bright and endearing smile looking between you two. you both nod & hand her your tickets as she walks off to the ticket counter while still smiling.
“okaaaay, sweet boy, what’s your name?” “kai!” she nods, “okay kai! you have 1,949 tickets! now sweetie, what’s your name?” she says while sweetly smiling at you. “yn!” “okay yn! you have 2,376 tickets! would you guys like to buy together or separately?”
“separate!” you both say in unison. “okay cool! kai, please step over to the worker at the next register to begin your purchases while i help this sweetie here!” she says. kai nods before telling you, “meet me at the table behind us when you’re done” and steps over while you begin to tell her what you’d like to buy.
kai finishes his purchases & you finish yours. you both meet up at the agreed spot and kai hands you a large penguin plushie. “here you go, just something to remind you of me!” he says with a sweet smile. you look at him in awe & hand him a large teddy bear, “i’m glad we were both thinking of each other”, you say before going in to hug him tightly. you pull away & kai doesn’t hesitate to place a sweet kiss on your lips and smile at you.
after handing off each other’s gifts, you both begin to walk out of the arcade hand in hand with each other.

Red wrinkles the air, sending swaths of heating rippling over you. The fire licks at its stone confines; dancing into your eyes. Every little flit and flicker lighting sparks. Burning sunset wriggling along faux logs. Lost in its majestic performance around the fireplace. A head bumps against your shoulder, tickling their hair on your neck. Their pair of eyes joining in your faded gaze. Watching along, hanging off your side, ticking time away to the inferno. Burning up seconds to minutes with only the moonlight shading across the carpet. Arms slowly wind around your stomach, rubbing soft circles atop the skin. Two knees come to cradle your own. The night, draped in winter and lights, settled into this moment. There is a moment of warming silence; music no longer rings nor are any shouts left in the air. Only faint words sighed into your back.
“Sunflower…you coming to bed soon?”
“Mm, it’s so warm in here though.”
Everything fades in and out. Slow motion in each movement it takes you to meet his eyes; blinking deeply in his presence. The tips of your noses touch; lips barely there, smothered in each other's heat. His curve so nicely, plump and pink, always so nice to kiss. Red enough to match the flush trailing down his neck. You feel the same heat running through yours.
It goes black again, growing warm in your gut. Kai’s hands still trail across your middle. You grab them, curling your fingers in between. His nose knocks yours and lips slot in.
“I’ll be so lonely without you.”
You want to squeeze closer and closer. Become a part of him forever. Never be lonely, have his love as yours for the rest of time. Meld your hearts to one.
“It’ll be so cold.”
Your heart is in a flurry. Burning up in frostbite, like the snow pounding outside. Every fingertip wandering the expanse of your thighs like a lit candle. Wax dripping like sparks exploding off in your chest.
“If you stay out here, Santa will never come.”
You feel the laughter spilling out before you can stop it. Falling back to his chest. Ringing out in peace-disturbing glory. You catch the growing grin pinching up Huening’s eyes, obviously so happy with himself and the kiss. Your cheeks match his.
“Okay!” Huffing out giggling breaths, “I’ll be there soon.”
Tucked into your boyfriend, wanting to pull yourself further and further into him. Curl up in his lap fully. You could melt away here. Kai’s lips press on your forehead. His hands drag back up your hips. They make your eyes flutter; it’s almost impossible to fulfill that promise.
“Please don’t make me wait too long.”

TXT Reaction #2 - Y/N is scared of fireworks
Requested?: No
Word Count: 100 - 200 each
A/N: I didn’t manage to post this last year so I waited a literal year only to almost miss my time to post it again. (┬┬﹏┬┬) Anyways I hope you have a nice New Years eve and a good start to 2023!! Lots of Love from Admin J
Yeonjun:
Tumblr media
Yeonjun was aware of your fear of fireworks, you had told him before but said you would still go to watch them with him.
He was grateful for you trying to put your fear aside for him, but quickly realized you were more uncomfortable that you had predicted.
A few hours before midnight the two of you were strolling around the streets when the first people already started off their fireworks.
Even though you tried to hide your reaction, Yeonjun who had his arm around yo, felt your body flinch with every explosion.
"That's not it. Let's go somewhere else." Before you could even protest Yeonjun was pulling you into the opposite direction.
He came to a stop in front of a karaoke room and pulled you inside with him.
"But you were so excited to watch the fireworks?" You felt guilty about making him miss it. "It doesn't matter, it's the same as last year anyway. This year I wanna enjoy some nice karaoke with you." He smiled brightly to assure you it was fine, before handing you a mic and picking your favorite song.
Soobin:
Tumblr media
Soobin gets scared when you tell him there's something he needs to know. The way you sit him down on the sofa and look at him all serious gets him nervous.
His mind wanders, what could have happened for you to be like this. But when you tell him you can't go to watch the fireworks with him because you're scared he just laughs.
Not because he's making fun of you, but simply because he's relieved that it's nothing serious.
Actually as an introvert, he's very happy to be able to stay home together with you instead of being out there in the cold, stuck between the people in the crowd who want to watch the fireworks.
So you order food, play some board games and when it's shortly before midnight Soobin puts on some music so you don't have to hear the explosions of the fireworks.
Beomgyu:
Tumblr media
He already knew of your fear, so he didn't even plan to go out. Instead he invites you to his studio, you know, because it's soundproof. The sound of fireworks can't reach you there.
He has various different foods delivered so the two of you can eat all evening long. He even buys a little bit of alcohol from the store nearby, before you arrive.
"Woah, isn't that a bit much." You laugh seeing everything he got spread out on the small table in his studio. Beomgyu insists that all this food is necessary so the two of you survive the night.
After eating you decide to mess around with the equipment recording some stuff as jokes, but Beomgyu surely is going to use it as adlibs in the future only so he can have your voice in one of his songs.
Both of you don't even notice the time has passed so fast and midnight is already over until Beomgyu gets a call from his family to wish both of you a happy new year.
Taehyun:
Tumblr media
You didn't tell him about your fear, scared that he would think it's ridiculous and childish, even though Taehyun would never think that.
Deciding that facing your fear might help you get over it, you met up with Taehyun at the park. Looking for a spot to lay down your blanket so you could sit down while watching the fireworks.
Taehyun noticed something was off though, you weren't as cheerful as usual and you seemed nervous.
"Are you alright?" 'He asked as he sat down next to you on the blanket. You nodded your head but it was obvious to Taehyun you were lying so he asked again.
With a sigh you told him about your fear of fireworks and how you had been scared to tell him, not even noticing the single tear rolling down your face until Taehyun wiped it away.
It was too late to go back home now, the clock closing in on midnight, so Taehyun looked through the bag he brought for his noise cancelling headphones to ensure that you could still look at the fireworks without getting scared by the loud explosions, while he held you close to him to keep you calm and protected.
Huening Kai:
Tumblr media
Kai had brought you to a New Years Party with him, without knowing of your fear.
At first it was all fun and games, you were having fun at the party with Kai and his friends, laughing and drinking.
But the closer it got to midnight the more nervous you got. It was obvious everyone was excited for the fireworks but you.
So when everyone went to gather outside to watch them you excused yourself to the restroom for a minute.
Kai was nervous, it was only a minute until midnight and you still weren't back, were you feeling unwell? He decided to go look for you, getting confused when he found the restroom empty.
He finally found you in the kitchen looking outside while holding yourself to calm you down. Kai hurries to you asking what's wrong, so you have no choice but to explain your fear to him.
Kai hugs you tightly as fireworks start going off outside, "I want you to feel comfortable an safe." He doesn't mind if that means he won't get to the see the fireworks.

stitches; huening kai

.・゜-: ✧ :- .・゜-: ✧ :-   -: ✧ :-゜・. -: ✧ :-゜・.
Y/N and Kai were still feeling morsels of the school bell’s shrieks leaving them as they sat themselves in their normal places at the front of their chemistry class. It was where the sunlight spilled against them in the best possible way, lit them up in pale golden flames in the slanted square spotlights of their classroom’s windows. Ever since they wound up in these places right next to each other in hopes of winning their teacher’s favour, their fingertips brushing over a pencil Kai dropped between them, they never change seats like everyone else did. Glances meeting by chance, the awkward smiles and slight giggles and hums of recognition as they would brush past each other to slide into their chairs - Kai would always manage to go the same way Y/N did; it only seemed to unfold from there.
They were finally past that step of small talk and bouts of dreadful silence, passing by each other in the hallways and not stopping right in the middle to talk about heading to the arcade a few blocks west of where they kept their bikes. They were something that bordered on regular get-togethers and conversations that weren’t such a hassle, maybe it was even friendship, with the way they enjoyed each other’s space. However, they were never really too sure, as this whole ‘friendship’ thing, looking into someone’s eyes and finding someone looking back at them, the nature of feeling found instead of lost among the crowd, it was all really new to them.
People weren’t necessarily their strong suit, but it began to seem that they found at least a person in each other. Smiles ignited under the iridescence of bowling alley lighting, laughter swallowed up in shrieks at the arcade where they’d spent the whole day at the claw machine, it began to feel like something real, something they could hold on to.
“I can’t believe our campaign was cancelled today… How else are we going to figure out the secrets behind the disappearance of the tribe leader?” Kai whined as he slapped his textbook against the surface of his desk with this animated flourish of sadness, a pout on his lips as he looked over to Y/N. They were supposed to meet under the amber cover of Kai’s porchlight with some of his friends to begin the next part of their Dungeons and Dragons campaign, but it was all put to a screeching halt because Kai’s mom didn’t let them stay up as late as midnight  - ‘the hour of evil’ - on a school night.
“At least your mom let us sleep over…?” Y/N tried to find a bright side to what felt like a day of endless possibilities - and Yeonjun’s terrible luck - eclipsed by their bedtimes. But even that came with its own lot of things to wince at. Whether it be Soobin’s constant need to spoon the object closest to him, which coincidentally was Y/N; Kai and Beomgyu’s whining about starting a rebellion against a new villain they were making up, which was definitely inspired by Kai’s mom; to Taehyun’s constant need to engage in UFC-level Mortal Kombat fights with anyone within arm’s reach; and Yeonjun’s insatiable desire to wreak havoc on everything, including their sanity…
Actually, the day sounded pretty great in hindsight. Y/N wasn’t going to lie to himself.
“Also, we were able to beat that party of orcs who hijacked that caravan of scrolls and tombs, we were actually able to save the scholar they took hostage, too!” Y/N smiled as Kai perked up. “Maybe we can use Taehyun’s language skills to decipher some of what’s left.”
“Well, it was only thanks to you! You were able to roll a nat-twenty on all of your magic missiles!” Kai threw his hands into the air, practically hanging for dear life on the edge of his seat. His voice filled with so much happiness, other students surrounding them began to look at them in their fits of excitement - some already beginning to cringe. For a moment, Kai thought back to how Beomgyu and Soobin always managed to make Kai look away for a second before Y/N finished rolling his die. “Wait… Now that I’m thinking-”
“No thank you, no thinking… My brain hurts when you make that thinking face.” Y/N shuddered at the thought of Kai’s thinking face. But whenever that light caught in Kai’s glimmering brown eyes, Y/N couldn’t look away, he never wanted to. There was always something so beautiful about the way any shade of sunlight seemed to fall in this revolution around his gaze, all the day’s leftover colours shining their brightest in a stare that left Y/N slightly breathless whenever Kai looked at him in the way he’s done more and more. Directly into his eyes, drawing curtains around the rest of the world for just a split second.
That brief wave of awe and nothingness, that moment frozen in time… Y/N doesn’t know what to make of it yet, there doesn’t seem to be enough words in this brain of his to begin to define it. However definition-less it was, it was a feeling that Y/N wanted to keep with him forever, it was one that kept him wanting more of Kai’s happiness and everything in between then he was smiling and when he wasn’t.
“I wish I could roll a perception-check on you right now-”
‘Hey nerds!” A brash voice came from behind them, and Y/N and Kai instantly snapped to attention, turning themselves around in their seats to meet the face of one of their many hecklers. Nobody necessarily went out of their way most of the time, but they definitely did their best to remind them how low they were hanging on the fringes of this social hierarchy they built. “How about you get a room with that stupid shit?”
They were frozen for a second, too stunned like always to speak, but Y/N caught Kai beginning to deflate in the corner of his eye. With every moment they wanted to lift each other up into some state of happiness, whenever they wanted to do so much as be who they were, there was always someone who would clip their wings and keep them on the ground.
With the way Kai’s smile so easily crumbled, Y/N couldn’t just sit by and watch Kai’s happiness fade like that.
“As long as it’s your mom’s room.” Y/N lifted an eyebrow, coy and cocky as he took in the silence that tumbled in like a spring breeze. It slowly swelled around the room before their heckler collected himself to retort, throw something back after he gathered his stammering words.
As soon as Y/N said his piece, he turned around and watched as Kai kept a chuckle between them, leaning over to fray Y/N’s hair before resting his chin on his arms, giddy under the flames of Y/N’s sarcasm. Y/N was always there to defend who they were, the only person who understood him, he hoped that one day he could return the favour if he ever grew brave enough to do so.
“Hey! You little shit-”
“Steve~”
A voice with a sickly sweet - almost suffocatingly so - lilt drifted into the room through the doorway. A cherry stained tide sweeping away the coolness of Y/N’s spring breeze. All the attention that Kai had on Y/N, the way he tapped the tips of his shoes against Y/N, his appreciative smile, the quiet smile they held in solidarity for each other, it all slipped from Y/N’s hands and over to the girl who stood perfectly framed in the doorframe.
It was almost too cliche, how she leaned against the edge of the doorway, and irritatingly vibrant pink cardigan draped around her arms, sunlight spilling against her perfect face and slight smile, collared shirt sitting loosely in the perfect way against her with the pleats of a plaid skirt shifting in this invisible, theatrical breeze. A tie was hung loosely from her neck, and those platform loafers that Y/N and Kai eyed through the window at the mall crossed over each other. It was as if she walked right out of every single one of Kai’s dronings and daydreams and those slight remarks he’d make at lunch over wistful sighs.
That’s because she was the subject of all Kai’s musings, and as the most popular girl in school, Y/N was sure that Kai wasn’t the only one who talked endlessly about her, who was drawn by her effortless magnetism.
She made her way further into the classroom and etched herself into the idling chatter around her. “How about you give the whole ‘asshole’ thing a break, let these cuties talk about their… What was it?”
“Orcs!” Kai flashed a dazed smile, almost slipping out of consciousness as he realized she was holding his eyes in hers. “We saved a scholar and his ransacked caravan from orcs-”
“Yeah, that.” She said absently before keeping her eyes on Kai. Y/N wondered how much she enjoyed the way she could make everyone melt under the pure fire of her gaze. “Just leave them alone, okay? Especially if they’re cute.” A smile made its way onto her lips, thin and vapid but just enough to keep Kai on that flower-lined trail of hopelessly falling into a dead end.
“Fine, whatever.” Their heckler, now given the name ‘Steve’, shrugged insolently and watched as the girl passed right by him, phased through the space of his whining words as if they were nothing.
Y/N spared one more glance to the side to see Kai’s stare following in her footsteps, the whispers of her shoes against the scuffed tile flooring. All he wants to do right now is feel anything but what’s rising in his chest right now, this bitterness that he’s never been able to contain; it only ever seems to show up whenever Kai feels like he’s more than fingertips away. He buries all his jealousy under his tongue and hides it away, the mutter under his breath that escapes from his lips is cut off by the school bell.
He hoped that the wink she flashed in Kai’s direction was just a trick of the light, a sparkle of sunlight that simply wanted to make him feel worse, and sat back in his seat to look toward the blackboard at the front of the room - doing anything to distract himself. No matter how hard he tried, though, he could still catch the way the sunlight played so coyly over Kai’s hand and what was left of the glances Kai forgot to spare him the moment that girl walked in.
*
Y/N and Kai finally made it to that small window they had between classes, and they were shifting out textbooks for their upcoming classes. Y/N was shuffling around his things in his bag, while Kai was leaning on the locker beside him, his book bag already stuffed and tucked under his arm. Ever since their first period when that encounter with ‘Steve’ and the girl who hasn’t left - even for a second - any of Kai’s slightest mentions, it was as if this dream-like haze was held prisoner in Kai’s gaze. Even now, his eyes were drawn to her, as she stood with her friends, including ‘Steve’ on the other end of the hallway, chuckling and chewing up rumours between their teeth like bubblegum.
“Honestly, Y/N, I finally think I have a chance with her.” Y/N didn’t realize how long he was spaced out for, looking into the rusted corners of his locker shelves, until Kai slapped his shoulder with this manic happiness. He caught onto the edges of Kai’s words and of his exclamations, on the starts of all his wistful sighs that Y/N honestly didn’t know if he had the strength to bear as such a small distance. “Did you see the way she stood up for us? She winked at me Y/N, I swear I wasn’t tripping, although I do think that the barista put too much sugar in my coffee this morning.” So it wasn’t a trick of the light after all, it wasn’t just a flicker of ivory in the corner of his eye. “I’m totally gonna ask her to the dance coming up this Friday, and she’s totally gonna say yes.”
What about the way I stood up for you…? Y/N wanted to hopelessly plead with the rose-coloured haze distorting the ease that Kai always seemed to make Y/N feel, this effortless comfort and weightlessness that came to them like the blood in their veins and the colours in the sunset. He couldn’t get this way, though, as he looked over to see Kai’s smile stretched wide, burning bright in a way that was so rare. Although the only other way he’s smiled like this was with Y/N, under their few - and hopefully still counting - nights under lavender moonlight, it was still so rare and took so much time.
The way she could draw this type of happiness out of him left Y/N at a loss. But if Kai was happy, then he was happy.
Yes, yes. Y/N was happy for him.
Just not as happy as he wanted to be.
“I’m glad that she’s reciprocating, I am.” Y/N didn’t know how to continue, and within his pause, he cautiously raised his eyes from the ground to meet Kai’s. The lovestruck glow in Kai’s cheeks flickered, shorted out for a moment, and a look of concern consumed him as he finally let the hesitance and tension of Y/N’s voice begin to seep in. “I guess just be careful, I don’t want you to get hurt.”
“Oh, Y/N.” Kai wanted to reach up, bring Y/N’s hands into his, but he stopped himself for a reason he couldn’t quite place. They’ve been friends for a while, but were they close enough for Kai to bring him in? For his voice to fall below a whisper as he told him everything was going to be okay? Part of him always wondered what Y/N’s hands felt like, but another part of him began to think that Y/N didn’t know if he wanted to feel Kai’s. “Everything’s gonna be fine! I’ll meet you outside the class like always, just give me a bit.”
And with that, with one last glance and bright, encouraging smile that felt like more of a parting than it was meant to be, Kai sent himself scampering across the hall to the girl pressed up against her locker. For a moment before turning away, Y/N closed his locker and watched. He wanted as they interacted and smiled at each other and inched closer and leaned against the lockers and fixed each other's gazes. Y/N felt too helpless to be proud of Kai for getting what he wants - he simply doesn’t know how long this moment of brightness will last, how long Kai would dangle by this tether that already felt as if it were going to snap.
How long would this girl flash him winks, and keep him hanging on until she finally decides to peel away that flimsy piece of tape that Kai’s used to stick to this image of her?
Just before the bell could ring and flood in between all the cracks in Y/N’s incomplete thoughts, Y/N turned around to their normal waiting spot, the place they’d always find each other whenever they were too late or too early for each other. The doorway to their second period class was basically a new normal for them; whenever Kai would be late taking too long to pee or was having a tough time with the vending machine, this was exactly where Y/N would be, waiting for him.
The doorway was where they first met, where they laid the frayed ends of their hellos and the goodbyes that they swear to never finish, knowing that their worlds will never be more than inches apart. Y/N rested against the outside of the doorway, waiting long, longer, until the school bell’s done itls three rings of warning. The swelling of students and footsteps is reduced to nothing as its last echoes fill out the space in the empty hallway.
Y/N stood there all alone for even longer, still hoping - always hoping. For himself, for Kai, for them, for the girl not to split his heart in two like they always joked about with girls like her. For all the things they laughed at not to blow up in their face. For Kai’s hand in his, for their sunsets not to slip away from them. For all his feelings, all the things he could never build the courage to say, to not be for nothing-
“Y/N!” Came a voice from the distance, a silhouette taking up the vacant fluorescence of the lights above them. As soon as he heard his breathless voice, Y/N knew it could be nobody by Kai - so soon into their friendship and Y/N could already tell him apart from anything else. He wondered, only briefly, if Kai could do the same for him, too. “Y/N!!! I’m so sorry!”
“What is it?”
“She said yes!”
Hoping and wishful thinking began to look a lot like the same thing nowadays.
*
Y/N was left with nothing but a vague text asking him to meet Kai on the roof of his house as he walked home alone for the first time in the half-year they’ve known each other. It’s been so long since they’ve ever needed to text each other to meet anywhere, they would always just land in each other’s personal space as if it were nothing, second nature. But based on the rumours and excited gossip that’s been passed around the hallways, Y/N had a feeling that the sparks in their veins, the things that led them to one another were the last thing on Kai’s mind - in fact, with what Y/N’s heard as someone else filled in Kai’s spot beside him in their chemistry class, maybe Kai’s veins have been torn apart, ripped from his beating heart.
All those thoughts, all the re-realizations of the empty spaces Kai’s absence have left in Y/N’s day only made him quicken up the pace. Past the picket fences of the houses enclosing the street, past the spray-painted curb that Y/N’s started to hop up to and balance on, leaving Kai to fear for his life as he’d hold his hand to keep him steady, past that persistent and oddly beautiful smattering of weeds that’d regrow in that same crack in the sidewalk. He needed Kai to be okay, and Kai needed him.
The door was already unlocked as Y/N made his way up the front path - he couldn’t see Kai’s silhouette etched into the sky as he walked up to the house. It was eerily quiet as the beginnings of a sunset began to seep in through windows.
As Y/N stepped out of the attic window without Kai’s help to bring down the ladder and hold him steady by the waist as they’d usually make their way up here together, he saw Kai curled up in a corner of roofing, the one place he couldn’t be seen from the sidewalk.
“Kai…?” Y/N’s call was weak, cautious he stepped out the window and made his way along the shingles and toward Kai. There was a spot left open for him at Kai’s side, and Y/N sent himself into a stupor wondering how long Kai’s simply been sitting here, feeling the sunlight’s colour shift on his skin as he waited for Y/N to fill in that space.
How long has Kai had that empty space for? How long has that girl, that precipice of all Kai’s earnestly juvenile desires, left him with holes in his heart?
Y/N’s heart began to shatter as Kai turned to meet his gaze, the golden sunlight catching his tear-stained cheeks mid-shimmer, and his lips peeling themselves back to reveal a tragic, knowing, defeated and bitter-sweet smile of blind ignorance and expected ‘I told you so’s.
He could already feel Kai’s pain, and already felt that helplessness of not being able to do anything about it already sweeping in. As he looked over Kai’s cracks, he felt himself breaking up.
Y/N rushed to Kai’s side and opened his arms. Through all Kai’s anger, sadness, frustration and numb blankness, he crumbled in Y/N’s arms the moment they curled around him.
Y/N clutched Kai tighter as he wept against Y/N’s shoulder. It was this near-silent whimper - a bloodless wound drying up, struggling to stitch itself back together. As Kai shrivelled up in Y/N’s arms, taking in Y/N - his only safe place - as much as he could, Y/N could almost feel pieces of his heart scattered about in his chest. With every rise of his stammered breathing, with every fall of his windless sobs as handfuls of Y/N’s borrowed sweatshirt turned into fistfuls, until everything in the view above Y/N’s shoulder turned into a colourless blur.
Kai never thought it would hurt this much, being shoved so deftly and mercilessly off a pedestal he knows now never truly existed.
“Kai…” Y/N started, smoothing his hand against Kai’s back, his voice was so delicate he could almost hear it snap under Kai’s softening cries into Y/N’s chest. “I’m so sorry… I’m so sorry about what she did to you…” Y/N wasn’t there for that moment of impact, when the girl must’ve shrugged him off as if he didn’t exist the night of the dance, embarrassed him in front of everyone in a way that left him stripped to his shivering bones and frayed nerves. It was a knife in him that was waiting to be twisted, the moment they locked eyes, the moment Kai thought that this day dream, this imagining could be anything that was attainable, anything that he thought was worth attaining.
Now Y/N wished he was there. He wished he was there just to hold Kai when it hurt the most. One moment Kai was beside him at the school’s entrance, flashing him a wink and cheeky smile as he went to find his date; the next, Y/N was looking down every empty hallway, peering into every grimey and defaced stall, setting out for Kai as he caught glimpses of ‘Steve’ taking the place in the girl’s hands that Kai seemed so sure he was destined for. There was no sign of Kai anywhere, nothing but that deflated text bringing Y/N here, one Kai’s rooftop after school. The day after everything happened.
All he knew of was the fallout, the aftermath, the things he heard when he walked into school the next day and felt a shift in the air, that absence of reckless abandon in the seat next to him in every classroom.
“I’m still trying to process it… It all happened so fast…” Kai’s voice levelled out for a second as he rested his cheek on Y/N’s shoulder, letting himself bend to the breeze of Y/N’s arms.
“Do you want to talk about it?” All Y/N could feel was anger and frustration, boiling up to his throat in curses that he’d bring to pierce the sky. But he knew that wouldn’t do anything, saying things that they already knew wasn’t going to make Kai feel any better. “I understand if you don’t…”
“I was so stupid and naïve and hopeless and desperate and gullible… I was just a fucking idiot…” Kai shook his head, resting his chin in the curve of Y/N’s neck. “I didn’t know what I was expecting, and I feel like such a fool thinking that all that shit I mused about was anything but a stupid daydream waiting to be shot down.”
“Kai…” Y/N whispered his name, his voice trickling down Kai’s back. He didn’t know what to say; and as he ran his hands against Kai’s sides, along his back, up to hold his waist, it was almost as if he could feel Kai’s scars failing to fade. A ruthless, curl and vindictive awakening that left Kai unable to sleep without thinking about all the ways his heart was torn open by something he truly believed in.
“It’s okay, Y/N… I should’ve known that was how this was going to end, I was foolish if I thought it was going to be anything else.” The way Kai’s words chiseled themselves into the sky, it only made Y/N’s heart ache even more. It was only a few days ago when Kai’s words were so bright and shorting out the sun, light and jovial enough to follow the breeze all the way into the horizon. They were heavy now, so full of weight already, snapped in the middle and laid at the end of their roof where their legs dangled as they unwound from around each other and sat out to face the sky. “All that time I spent chasing something that was never real to her…”
Kai turned to Y/N, who looked at him with pursed lips, holding back all the words he was thinking of that were willing to spill out all at once.
“I think I need to take a step back.” Kai chuckled faintly as he watched Y/N’s face begin to twist up in confusion. Even Kai didn’t know what that quite meant. The rest of their friends, Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, and Taehyun, were heading downtown for a couple days just to throw all care to the windless night sky for no reason at all. Maybe that’s what Kai needed, a step back, some perspective, something that could help him begin to figure out what happened and why he so happily walked to his own emotional slaughter. “From everything…”
He rested his head on Y/N’s, feeling tears already begin to well up in his eyes as he could feel Y/N simply take what Kai was saying, accepting and doing his best to understand. Y/N didn’t quite know heartbreak like Kai did, at least not so intimately, but Kai was sure that if he listened closely enough, he could hear Y/N’s heart begin to whine, breathe out in confusion. But Y/N stayed silent, listening, taking in all of Kai’s emotions and doing nothing with them but comforting one of the only people he can call home.
“Yeonjun and the others are heading out, just saying ‘fuck it’ for a few days and staying with some mutuals in the city. I think I should go, empty my head and get away from so many reminders of how she made me feel.” Kai’s voice trembled, so uncertain.
Y/N wanted to plead for Kai to stay, but he didn’t know if they were close enough for him to say ‘I need you’. He simply couldn’t find it in himself.
Was it the part that yearned for Kai to look at him in the way that he seemed to look at everyone else? Was it the part that saw so much starlight in every single one of Kai’s throwaway smiles? Was it the part that wanted himself to be okay as much as he wanted Kai to be okay? Maybe it was all of him, every single part of him that Kai encompassed.
“You should come with me, Y/N.” There was so much pain in Y/N’s observant quiet. “I can’t leave you here.” All the colour Y/N already brings into Kai’s life and holds in his eyes, brings between them; it’s the only thing that assures Kai that things are okay - even when they aren’t. Y/N is that one person who can both ground Kai, that pinch that snaps his dream in two to remind him he’s still living, as well as be that dream in the first place and lift him off the ground, as being with Y/N always felt way too good to be true.
“Yes you can…” All those indeterminable feelings that rose in Y/N’s chest, they were there yet again tugging at him in every direction. “You can go and figure everything out. I don’t want to be a reminder of all the things you want to leave behind, even if it’s for a little while.”
They turned to look at each other for the first time since Y/N stepped out onto the roof. Kai’s eyes shone in such a different way, in a way that felt clouded, unrecognizeable. He was torn apart in a way that left Y/N unable to stitch him back together on his own, and all Y/N could do was to support Kai with his choices and let him heal in the way that Kai wants to. Y/N wanted to say something, anything, but stitching fragments of Kai’s heart back onto his sleeves where he used to wear it wasn’t going to work.
“No- Y/N! That’s not what I mean, I swear.” Kai’s voice was suddenly soft, all the fires that burned under his words fading away as soon as he met the sadness in Y/N’s eyes. Y/N tried to hide it, but there were things that he couldn’t hide even from Kai.
“What that bitch did was horrible. If you need to take a breather from life for a second, a few days, that doesn’t matter. I’ll be here waiting for you, and I’ll also be here with all the notes from all our classes.”
“Y/N… I…” Kai felt frozen, but there was this certainly that shone in Y/N’s eyes as they looked at each other for longer, stared deeper into each other.
“You need to heal, Kai. I get it.” Y/N chuckled, but Kai could still feel the weight of all the things Y/N’s wanted to say but didn’t. “Just don’t take too long or I’ll get lonely.” He wanted to be kidding, but he wasn’t quick enough to fold all that longing under a bright - as bright as he could muster - chuckle.
“Y/N…” Kai’s words slipped into the sky, nearly burning up in the golden sunlight. A silence started to softly, delicately overtake them like the wash of strawberry tides. “If you didn’t love me so much I would’ve expected you to toss me off this roof.”
They shared a chuckle, and it was quick to flutter above silhouettes of rooftops and melt into the whispers of lavender smeared against the golden sky.
If you only knew… Y/N said into nothing, letting the wind take his words away before anyone could hear them.
*
Y/N buried yet another sigh in his locker before shutting it with an over-dramatic slam and shifted the textbooks he held under his arm. He was about to head down the hallway, but a few memories tacked onto the inside of Y/N’s locker door left him opening the locker right back up again. The friendship between him and Kai was just beginning to bloom, not close enough to do certain things, yet at too enar of a distance to not do other things. Y/N didn’t think to stuff a couple of pictures of them in his locker door until Kai left and Y/N went scrounging at the bottom of his dresser drawers for the polaroids that he never thought he’d need to use as a fail-safe. He never thought they’d be apart for long enough for him to have to miss Kai this much.
They weren’t prepared for Kai to get his heart snapped in two, either. They’ve needed to unearth a lot more than they expected during their school year.
Y/N was approaching the end of the ‘few days’ that Kai was supposed to be gone, and Y/N felt this odd, unsettling mixture of relief and loneliness as he found himself walking to school on his own - this hope settling at the bottom of his stomach that this could be the last time. That Kai would be standing expectantly on the edge of his doorstep, ready to spring right into his place next to Y/N - the space that Y/N’s been keeping open this entire time.
He knew he was going to miss Kai, he knew he was going to feel his absence in every room, his smile wasn’t there to light up. But he didn’t know that the worst part of it all was that anticipation for him to come back. He needed him more than he thought, yearned for him more than the aching in his heart could have ever prepared him for.
He let out another sigh, shoddily made with the little breath he still had in him, and swung the locker closed, but a hand curling around the door’s edge beat him to it and shut the door gently. The hand, as it reveals itself, looked so familiar; he recounted the times he’s wanted to hold it, those times their fingers accidentally brushed against each other on walks to class and walks home. Except, those studded rings were new - the same house with a new, translucent coat of paint.
Kai popped out from behind the door to show his face with a smirk stitched onto his lips, kind eyes shining wildly, the glow in his skin was dyed a new colour yet still seemed the same. He was changed but still that Kai who would let Y/N take the bigger end of the fries they would sometimes split together. His hair was longer, draped against his forehead, framing his face in inky black waves, he wore a vintage leather jacket, the ones they’d always fantasize about wearing whenever they would want to pretend to be someone else for a day.
Y/N didn’t realize the silence they were in until he finished taking Kai in, taking him in in all his changed, shifted glory.
“I see that new memorabilia of ours has graced your locker.” Kai’s voice eased out from between his teeth as he made his way closer to Y/N, taking him in and all the ways his precious friend had stayed the exact same. Kai’s voice, though, was lower, assuming this roughness to it, as if the honey that draped his words had crystallized. “I feel so honoured-”
Kai’s teasing words were cut in two as Y/N instantly began to rush in to wrap his arms around Kai and his leather-clad shoulders, but stopped for a moment, hesitating. “Oh crap, sorry… I just… I-”
“I missed you, Y/N…” Now it was Y/N’s turn to have his words shattered as Kai swept him up in a hug, something they haven’t done often, something they don’t do unless they need the comfort, not when they want it. This hug, though, Kai wrapping his arms tight around Y/N’s waist, not just hugging him but embracing him, it made Y/N collapse in it, close his eyes and soak it in - that and the sharpness of Kai’s new cologne. “Did you keep my spot warm for me?”
“Yeah, I saved it.” Y/N smiled, playing with the strap and buckle that hung off the hem of Kai’s leather jacket. It was rough, worn, things Y/N didn’t think of whenever Kai came to mind. Its sheen could never match the glimmer in Kai’s eyes. “Just for you.”
“Just for me, huh?” Kai moved a little bit closer, this brave step to fill in the space between them. He flashed what Y/N supposed was a smirk, but he could sense the hesitance and performance in his coy, witty theatrics. If Kai was going to close the space between them, if he was going to reach for Y/N’s hand, fall into his gravity like this, then Y/N wanted it to be real. Not whatever he was seeing.
It felt so much like a bravado that Y/N almost wanted to be hurt by the fact that Kai would do this to himself, change everything he is, tear away his sheepishness, that beautiful flush he’d get, the brightness in his voice. All the things that Y/N loved most about him, all the things that Kai knew Y/N liked about him.
“I’m glad.”
Kai’s words seemed to fizzle out, fade into the beginnings of the morning hallway’s rumblings. An awkward silence hasn’t washed over them like this, clung to them like cheap perfume, in the longest time; ever since they were first ironing out their small-talking skills. Y/N didn’t know what he was expecting with Kai, and he wanted to be so happy that Kai was back, but he couldn’t help but feel this sadness burrowing into his heart like an itch he can’t scratch away.
He didn’t expect Kai to simply toss himself away like this, adopt this facade of vintage leather and cocky smirks as if this was always the person who was lying beneath. Kai was wearing more layers now, just taping over the scars of where the glue didn’t hold. He was simply managing. Y/N stared at him with this blank, wordless smile, trying to find something and anything to say to this person who felt as if he was slipping away from Y/N even more than he did before any of this was happening.
“I-”
“Y/N!”
Y/N whipped around, ripping his eyes away from Kai and all the ways he had changed, to follow the voice that called out to him. Among the crowd of students rushing to their classes before the first bell emerged Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu and Taehyun, all in their own takes on leather jackets similar to Kai’s. He hasn’t known them for as long Kai has, he was the last addition to their party - their much needed wizard with a knack for high-rolls and the charisma skill that literally none of them chose to invest in. Yet even Y/N noticed these stark changes among them, smudges of eyeliner on Soobin, this open-mouthed, perpetually breathless smile that Yeonjun has going on, Beomgyu’s hair grown out, pinned up and dyed, and Taehyun with this hardness to his eyes that was too similar to Kai’s for comfort.
Now Y/N just wanted to know what happened while they were gone, what kind of metamorphosis they had to go through to have these holes torn out in their bright, vivid and beautiful butterfly wings. Yeonjun took him in first, and the rest reached in shortly after to get their fair share of Y/N’s hugs.
“We missed you more!” Soobin said, his glee wasn’t as brilliant as it seemed to be either. Y/N looked back to Kai, who made his way around to form a circle by Y/N’s now closed locker.
“Well, now that the party’s back together again…” Yeonjun started, his gaze moving along each of them. “We heard about this party going on tonight and we were wondering if you wanted to join us?”
“Damn,” Y/N felt so many things, there was too much confusion in his head to keep staring back at everyone with this unassuming, blank and passive shine anymore. “You guys just got back, and you already want to party again?”
“Well yeah, I mean a lot’s changed since we’ve been away.” Beomgyu shrugged, scratching at the back of his head. Y/N wanted to roll his eyes with how obvious that was, but stopped himself as he was wondering why he was so frustrated in the first place, and how frustrated he’s been the moment he caught the way Kai’s eyes didn’t seem to sparkle the same. “Parties are just where we like to spend our time now.”
“What about our campaign…?” Y/N felt hopeless, how could his friends change so suddenly like this? Y/N felt lost, he didn’t know where he was with them surrounding him like this. He wanted to go back, back to Beomgyu’s absurdly thick-framed glasses, Taehyun’s dorky smile, Yeonjun’s earnest insanity, Soobin’s wrinkled and chunky sweaters…
Kai’s everything…
“We’re on the last stretch, and Fridays are always our D&D nights…” Y/N chewed away at his lip, his realizations, his longings beginning to close in on him. He shrunk back into the book he held pressed to his chest now, and everyone immediately rushed forward with guilt already flooding every inch of them. “I mean it’s not time sensitive, if you guys wanna go to the party then go.”
“No- I mean.” Kai was the first to say something, stammering over himself and hugging Y/N’s arm. “It’s just-”
“Kai…” Y/N stopped Kai before he could stumble and trip over himself. “It’s okay, we can just do it tomorrow or something…?”
“Yes, absolutely.” Soobin wrung his hands out, wincing as he caught the feelings that churned just beneath the surface of Y/N’s pursed lips. “You sure you don’t wanna come?”
“Yeah, I’ll just stay home… Parties aren’t really my thing.”
Before anyone could say anything else, the bell rang its shrill cries throughout the hallway and the traffic in the hallway was only thickening with even more clusters of students taking up space. The rattle of lockers, the footsteps drowning out the wordlessness between the six boys, the chatter that swallowed up what remained, it sent the six of them in their respective directions already.
“We’ll meet up later then!” Kai tried to keep this brightness in his voice, but the light in his words was working hard enough to convince itself, it couldn't convince anybody else. All he could think about now was how he left Y/N behind, how in the midst of his heartbreak, he left Y/N to wonder how Kai picked up the pieces and did nothing but count down the few days Kai said he was going to be gone for. Kai nudged Y/N in the side, hoping that this contact - his hands grazing Y/N’s, this folding of space as he took Y/N in his side - would help with all the tension he could feel wound up in Y/N. “We’ll say goodbye before we leave, does that sound good?”
“Sounds good.”
Following the bell’s call, the six of them split off to their classes, with Y/N and Kai, walking side by side on their way to their chemistry classroom. Where things started, and changed in a single bat of eyelashes and a flash of a smile.
*
It was about an hour after Y/N bid Kai and their friends an awfully dramatic goodbye under the flickering warmth of his porchlight, and Y/N already felt this emptiness creeping into him and the space between his fidgeting hands. He was missing Kai already, as if he was still out in the city, past the skyline that was nothing but a blurred line to them just a week ago.
Maybe part of Kai was still there, the Kai he hugged on the rooftop, the Kai who wept into his shoulder and didn’t see foolishness in his want and yearning. The Kai in ill-fitting cardigans, eager to keep the sunlight on both their shoulders, he was gone, escaped and drawn in by the moonlight. Y/N closed his eyes as he curled into the corner of his couch, looking at all the other empty seats and finding it hard to breathe in the silence. He didn’t want to focus on how everything’s changed, he’s done that for too long with absent stares toward the blackboard. And he also didn’t know if he was allowed to feel these things, to feel as if something were missing in the way Kai looked at him now, looked at anyone - it all happened so quickly, Kai dismissed every part of himself so quickly.
Y/N wished he went to the party, if not to simply get used to who Kai wanted to be now. Maybe the deafening music, blinding strobe lights, and the shitty liquor that would leave his brain swallowed up by this numbness, this ease, would help him see Kai a little bit better.
Perhaps Y/N was just being dramatic, feeling as if he were out of control in a world that seemed to move on without him. Playing with his feelings, his unsaid words, his with-held love - that’s what it was, love - between his hands didn’t make him feel any better. He just wasn’t ready for all of this.
Y/N was ripped away from his thoughts as his phone cried out from under his leg where he tucked it away - he knew that if it were in his line of sight he’d constantly be checking the time, adding onto the days and hours that Kai and their friends have left him to stay the same while they changed the way their few lilac skies carved out their names. And as Y/N checked the screen to see who it was he nearly fell off the couch.
It was Yeonjun, the picture Y/N set for him pulsing on his screen, shoving itself toward him. With a confused hum, Y/N picked up the call and was instantly greeted by drunken screams struggling above the rumble of the music’s bass. He could hear a stammer of footsteps, probably Yeonjun rushing away from the noise to scream into his phone. “Y/N!?”
“Yeah. Hello, what’s up?” Even among all the noise, Yeonjun managed to find a way to always be louder.
Y/N chuckled a bit and thought back to how Yeonjun won every shouting match all of them would have, whenever Taehyun would make the wrong move or Y/N and Beomgyu would cast the wrong spells. All it took was a single jut of his lip and chin for it to be over in seconds, then it was relentless. Y/N wondered if it was too late to ask for those kinds of days back, or if they were already behind them, if their promise to revert back to who they were tomorrow was just to humour Y/N.
“It’s Kai, he’s gone!”
Y/N shot up from the couch. “What do you mean?”
“Kai left…” Y/N could hear the panic in Yeonjun’s voice. “We tried to follow him but we lost him in the crowd. We’ve been looking all over but he’s not here!”
“Shit… Shit, shit.” Y/N paced around the living room for a while, mumbling curses into the phone he knew Yeonjun couldn’t hear anyway.
“We don’t know where he could've gone!”
“Did you call him!?” Y/N was already shrugging on one of his worn jackets, slipping into his shoes in a rushed stumble.
“He’s not picking up.” Yeonjun’s breathing grew panicked and heavy, Y/N could almost feel the way it was laced with too much vodka for Yeonjun to keep a level head. “I don’t know where he could’ve gone.”
“It’s okay Yeonjun, stay calm okay?” Y/N was frantic, too, but he couldn’t let any of them panic. They were braver before they dawned those leather jackets as if it were some kind of armour. “The party’s in the area, right?”
“Yeah.” Yeonjun breathed out, shaky but steadying. Y/N could hear a slap of his hands against a countertop or surface or something, maybe Yeonjun was steadying himself. Yeonjun was always the first to admit how Y/N was always there to comfort the rest of them; he was their safe place and they left him all alone, so far away, for so long. “Yeah, it’s close to the school.”
Y/N began to think of where Kai could’ve gone, the places that Kai would seek asylum when Y/N wasn’t there to meet him on rooftops or across diner tables with a single plate of french fries between them. “I think I have an idea of where he went, make sure the rest of you are alright and in order. Don’t stop trying to call him.”
“Okay, Y/N… Thank you.”
“Did you seriously just thank me for going out to find Kai?” Y/N locked the door, fumbling with his keys and instantly set out in the direction of all their memories, the one part of Kai and him that Y/N hoped he hadn’t thrown away and shoved aside in service of a single, heartless person who convinced him he had no value.
“I… Yes…”
“That’s dumb, but you do owe me iced coffee for life for making me go running this late!”
“All the coffee you want Y/N…” Yeonjun tripped over his laughter as a clamour of voices began to bloom around him. Y/N could hear Yeonjun talking with Soobin and calming down Beomgyu and Taehyun, assuring them that Y/N’s going to help. Y/N couldn’t help but smile at the way they all instantly seemed to feel an ease at the mention of Y/N’s name.
Maybe he was still Kai’s safe haven too.
Y/N hung up and made his way further down the street, thinking harder about all the places Kai would go if he were lost. Which trail of their footprints littered across the town he would follow, where would he go to clear his head, empty his thoughts and feel peace? Y/N wanted to be confident that Kai’s immediate response, his yearning for comfort would bring him to the place Y/N was thinking of, the place Y/N was running to. Y/N had nothing but blind faith and moonlit intersections to guide him back there, the place where things may not have officially started, but the place where the sunlight would always catch Kai’s eyes just right.
It was the place where they shared that beautiful, comforting silence between them. A hill, a throne weathered and worn picnic tables scattered among exposed roots, patchy grass and these blossoms like shattered moonlight that only seemed to bloom under the shadows of the picnic tables’ seats. It was where Kai plucked one from the ground and tucked it behind Y/N’s ear in a gesture they never shared before that, a place where their stare has never lingered on one another for that long, where the night’s light and darkness have never danced so brilliantly in Kai’s eyes before. Y/N wanted to take that leap of faith, ask Kai to be more than ‘party members’ right there and then.
He remembered how Kai commented that Y/N had a piece of starlight behind his ear now, yet it never shone as bright as he did. With the way they giggled into the coral sky, their breaths making ripples in the lilac clouds, Y/N was convinced that Kai was joking. But what he didn’t notice as he looked back out to the sky was how long Kai’s stare lingered on him after that, and for how many arduous seconds, Kai contemplated inching his fingertips a little closer to feel Y/N’s hand under his touch. What would it feel like to hold them?
Y/N ran down the sidewalk until he saw a clearing in the forest across from the school. The canopy was too thick for most people to be brave enough to hike through, yet, it was one of the first things Y/N and Kai did together. No matter what they were against, where they found themselves, it was always Kai who made Y/N feel alright, and it was always Y/N who Kai sought for, the person Kai wanted to see on the end of all his days - good, bad, the ones in between, and all the ones they haven’t had yet.
When Y/N makes his way to the end of the path, all he could see was the moonlit night on the other side and a figure carved right into the middle, eclipsing the sapphire moon and all its subjects in the suburbs lying beneath the hill. Y/N breathed out as the silhouette shifted - he could recognize the way the sky carved out Kai and all of his perfections whether it be night or day, sunset or the sunrises they always slept through.
There Kai was, sitting on the end of a picnic bench, feet kicking about restlessly under him, and his leather jacket shed from his shoulders as if it were a second skin, it laid on the grass, forgotten and forlorn.
“Kai!” Y/N’s voice sent Kai whipping around to meet his voice, and Kai instantly stood from his seat. He shone a relieved, dazed smile as Y/N ran over and met him at the bench; and Y/N didn’t realize until too late how wrung dry of breath he was. “We were so worried about you! Yeonjun said you just ran off!”
“Y/N, I’m so sorry.” Kai’s voice sounded so fragile as he sat back down and patted the space next to him. Y/N didn’t waste a second in making his way closer and checking to see if Kai was alright. “I’m okay, I swear.”
“Well someone who’s okay wouldn’t leave a party unannounced like that. It’s okay not to be alright, Kai… I was just so scared…” His voice was hoarse, cracking under the weight of every word. He couldn’t quite look Kai in the eye, he was too scared of what he would find as their stares met. Kai kept his gaze on the way Y/N’s hands delicately traced his own, finding something to do as his panic failed to subside under both of their deep breaths. “Did you have too much to drink? You shouldn’t be alone if that’s the case. Did something happen-”
“No, Y/N… I didn’t drink… I couldn’t.” Kai took Y/N’s hand on his own and looked out to the sky, his lip trembling. “I wanted to leave, I wanted to get out and get away from there.” All those feelings churning within him all came rushing back, that nauseating feeling of failing to belong, the confirmation of all the things his heartbreak told him. “I should’ve called you or something, I shouldn’t have expected you to find me… I’m so sorry.”
“It’s okay, what matters is that you’re safe, you dumbass.” Y/N chuckled as Kai leaned his head on Y/N’s shoulder, his gaze wandering up to where the clusters of stars shone brightest - they peaked beneath the indigo drapes of what was left of the clouds. “I just… Everything that she told you, anything that incident implied or showed you - that you’re not worth it, that you don’t deserve it, that you needed to change who you are - she couldn’t have been more wrong.”
Kai shuffled closer, bringing his chin further up Y/N’s shoulder. “I was an idiot to change myself for something as purposeless as her. But I did, I changed every bit of me hoping that whatever faults I had the first time could be cured… I ended up leaving you behind in the process, I left myself behind, too… I’ll never forgive myself for that, I’m… I…” Kai found himself lost for words as he lifted himself off Y/N’s shoulder to see frustrated tears threatening to trip over Y/N’s lashes, his lip drawn between his teeth, thai strange, withheld feeling stirring within him and seeping out in his struggling breaths. “Y/N, I appreciate you so much.”
“I know, I- I think I know… It’s just…” Y/N fought with his words, with the way they choked him and suffocated him. Kai’s arm around his shoulder was relief enough. “You didn’t need to change yourself, Kai… Nothing about you is wrong, you’re perfect, okay? I was just so confused and lost and frustrated because you threw all the things I loved about you away, and when you came back like that, all I could think about was what I could’ve done wrong, how I could’ve helped you heal a little bit more.”
Kai was silent and he let his mouth hang open as Y/N continued. He always had an idea about all the feelings that Y/N left unsaid, and he felt so ashamed of himself that it took him this long to finally allow Y/N to feel like he was able to share them.
“I love you, Kai… I really love you, and it hurts so much to see you just cast yourself away like that because I don’t know what to do with myself if you’re not you. If you’re not you, then I don’t feel like me. I love everything about you, you’re everything to me and I don’t know if I can handle all the things that made me love you and make me keep loving you simply not being there…” Y/N shuddered, out of relief or complete and utter shock he didn’t quite know yet.
All he could feel was the way the weight of all his pent-up, twisted and imprisoned feelings left him - like a breath he’s been holding for far too long.
Y/N flinched when Kai took him by the shoulders and turned him around, Kai fixing Y/N’s wandering eyes in his own, his hands making their way down to Y/N’s and wrapping around Y/N’s trembling fingers. He wasn’t going to leave again, he wasn’t going to desert one of the only people who has ever loved him and never expected anything less. He felt the aftershock of all his longing stares on Y/N’s eyes and lips and smile, all the grins he’d shine whenever the melody of Y/N’s laughter filled the room, and all the fire in his heart whenever they’d have moments of comfortable silence staring out into skies of colours they could’ve never conceived.
“I… Y/N…” Kai bunched their hands together, taking a breath before getting ready to take this leap of faith that looked so much clearer than he could’ve imagined. He was more than ready. “I hate how it’s taken me this long to realize how I’ve never really appreciated you for all the ways you love and accept me. I feel so stupid that I’ve taken you for granted, that I left you with nothing and came back empty-handed and leaving you even more confused and angry at everything. But I do appreciate you, please know that. I appreciate you so much, I like and love you so much and I care for you so much Y/N… I’ve always loved you… I shouldn’t have ever changed for anyone because you were always there accepting me for who I am. You’re the only person that matters and the only person that makes me feel so happy and grateful for your friendship - yeah, there’s the others, but no one makes me feel quite like you.”
The stars hung still, moonlight pulled tight between them. Their words were suspended into the night air to the point where Y/N and Kai could practically feel them falling against their shoulders. There was this quiet that made its way between them, but it wasn’t as tense, taut or as thickly suffocating as they expected. In fact, there was this ease to it, as if everything they had said fell into the perfect places.
“I love you, Y/N, and I love you for all the ways you love and accept me and more.” Kai continued, breathless as he watched Y/N’s eyes shimmer and glow with this joy, happiness and relief that only made Kai’s smile shine even brighter, stretch wider. “I’ll love you more than anyone in the world, I’ll never change and I’ll never want you to change.”
“Kai… I…” Everything hung in the air. As they stared at each other, they felt as if they were stuck in this stillness; a passage between feeling nothing but the shimmer of starlight on their skin, and every single thing that danced in between them and lit up in their eyes.
It was all the words they never thought they’d be brave enough to say, all the feelings they’ve had for as long as they could remember. Now they were finally out there, their worlds sent spinning.
Yet they didn’t lose their balance for even a moment, this was the revolution their skies were always supposed to be in.
“I mean it, I really do.” Kai didn’t spare any space, any wasted seconds of flickers in the night, to bring his hands up to Y/N’s face - his fingers curling around Y/N’s cheeks and burning under the flush he could feel blooming there. As he looked at Y/N’s smile, the moonlight igniting every inch of it, Kai felt intoxicated, head spinning and sunlight in his veins, more than any shot he pretended to like could ever do to him. Y/N’s face, Y/N’s brilliant quiet, the way he peered up and gravitated to Kai’s lips, it was all worth more than anything Y/N could’ve said back.
There was this pull, this dizziness, then suddenly it felt as if everything, every single sensation, erupted and ignited as he brought Y/N in close and even closer.
Y/N’s lips on his, that spark and shine of starlight between their teeth as it burned through them, Kai felt himself unable to pull back - he didn’t want to, never wanted to. It was something that he wanted to drown in forever and never breach the surface. He wanted everything they were and everything they weren’t to shrivel up into the embers bursting under his fingertips and trailing Y/N’s as his hands cradled Kai’s cheek’s, pulled him in, left their gravity to shatter into pieces and left everything to spin so wildly.
As they pulled back and it felt as if everything fell from their view, two shooting stars crash-landing on earth with nothing to show for themselves but the starlight they left on each other’s skin and on each other’s lips.
“I guess I didn’t roll that perception check to realize how much I loved you…”
“Well, you came to your senses eventually.” Y/N snickered with a bright grin, and Kai immediately leaned back in to kiss it, get a taste of Y/N’s light and revel in the way it made him burn up.
If they were from another world, if they spoke their own language through whispers and smiles, high hopes, low rolls and five tombs of board-game instructions that they pretend to understand, if they choose to rule their own kingdom of rooftops and trails in forests nobody else dares to tread, if only they were able to see each other for all their perfects that were perfectly imperfect, then that was all they needed.
All they will ever need.

PRESENT DAY
“No, no, no,” you sigh. “That doesn’t go there. It goes over by the dessert table. We’ve already been over this.”
“Sorry, Miss L/n.”
The poor venue staff members bow their heads, carrying the sign over to its designated area. You pinch the bridge of your nose, sitting in one of the guest chairs. Soobin notices your frustration from his spot near the altar, where he and his fiancée are rehearsing for tomorrow, and excuses himself. He takes the seat beside you.
“Are you okay?“ The older male’s voice is comforting, easing the tension in your face and shoulders almost immediately.
“Yeah. Just a bit stressed. But it’s fine! Don’t worry. I’m taking on all of that so you won’t have to.” You smile at him.
About a year ago, a couple months after the announcement that he was engaged, Soobin asked if you would help in planning his wedding. You’d already done a few successful ones at this point, with the help of other planners at your agency, but this would be the first completely on your own. Even if it was nerve wracking as hell, you couldn’t tell him no. Soobin had been one of your greatest friends since high school.
“Okay. Just tell me if you need to take a break. I’ll understand, you know?” He wags a finger at you. You nod, shooing him back to his soon-to-be-wife.
You stand from the chair, exiting the area reserved for the wedding. You’d rented out an outdoor venue, due to the fact that it was late spring, early summer. It was perfect to hold both the ceremony and the reception, just big enough to house each.
As soon as you step out into the parking lot, you run your hands down your face. You knew the decorating process was nothing compared to how it would be tomorrow, the actual day of. But even so, you felt like your legs were going to fall off and your eyes were so heavy, you could sleep standing up.
“Did someone call for entertainment?”
You drop your hands, your features lighting up at the sight of two familiar figures. You run over to hug them, already less stressed. “Jun! Gyu!”
The taller catches you with a laugh, ruffling your hair. “Hey, Y/n, long time no see.”
“No shit! It’s been, what? Since Soobin told us he was getting married? A year?” You whine, resting your head on Yeonjun’s shoulder. “Gahhh, it’s been too long. I’ve missed you idiots. What are you doing here?”
“Well we heard our hotshot wedding planner might need some reinforcements.” Beomgyu says. You roll your eyes playfully, flicking him on the forehead.
“Seriously though, I was so close to asking one of the other planners at the agency to take over for tomorrow. I am so tired,” you yawn, rubbing your eyes. “When’s Taehyun coming in?”
Yeonjun furrows his eyebrows. “Tomorrow morning. With Huening. Did you not know?”
The mention of Huening Kai has you snapping out of whatever sleepy stupor you were in. Your wide eyes are enough answer for Yeonjun and he sighs, shifting his weight onto one hip.
“You still haven't talked to him?” He frowns. “It’s been a year, Y/n. You used to be best friends. What the hell happened?”
You look down at the pavement with an unreadable expression. He was right, you used to be best friends. Emphasis on the words ‘used to.’ You didn’t want to relive the moment the two of you cut contact with each other, so you don’t tell him. That was something you would take to the grave if possible.
“Are you at least gonna try to remain civil for Soobin’s sake?” Beomgyu asks, glancing behind you to catch a glimpse of the preparations within the venue. “I know how snappy you can get under pressure so just make sure to keep yourself as calm as you can tomorrow, despite the fact that it’ll probably be the most stressful day of your life.”
“Wow, Gyu, you’re really good at cheering people up.” You say sarcastically, shoving his shoulder lightly.
“It’s my specialty.”
Tumblr media
ONE YEAR AGO
You and Kai meet eyes at the same time, raising identical eyebrows at the text message Soobin had sent to your group chat.
He wanted all of you to meet up for dinner later that night, the message requested so seriously that it felt rather ominous. You had no idea what it could be about, but don’t question it, pressing play on the movie you’d paused to entertain the text.
A yawn escapes your lips just minutes later, so you rest your head on Kai’s shoulder, missing the way he tenses at the action. It was only two in the afternoon and Soobin didn’t want to meet until around seven. You assumed a quick cat nap wouldn’t hurt.
Except a quick cat nap became a four hour nap and you found yourself rushing to get ready in your joint apartment with Kai. He was sitting on the couch, scrolling through social media as you scrambled back and forth from your room to the bathroom.
“I told you to wake up like two hours ago but you just pushed me and told me to leave you alone.” He calls out.
“Fuck off!”
You adjust the clasp on your heel, checking yourself out in the mirror before grabbing your phone and wallet, finally meeting Kai in the living room. The clack of your shoes on the wooden floor causes him to look up, his breath getting caught in his throat.
He’s known you for twelve whole years and you still manage to knock the wind out of him whenever you enter a room.
“Okay, I’m ready!” You exhale, smoothing out your blouse.
He merely nods, afraid of his voice failing him. Even when you were in middle school, he thought you were cute. The moment he found you in the classroom during lunch, his heart was stolen right from his chest. You were the thief that he couldn’t dare blame. Your glasses, though dorky, made the eyes behind them look so innocent and pure. He was hooked from day one.
You had grown and matured so much since then, but as he grew alongside you, so did his feelings. They blossomed from a tween crush to full fledged infatuation. Now, dressed in a silky spaghetti strapped top, mom jeans and skinny heels, twenty four year old you had a death grip on Kai.
He follows behind you like a lost puppy as you exit your apartment and lock up, making your way to his car in the spot right in front of the stairs. (Thank god, because your feet would’ve already started killing you if you had to walk any further.)
The car ride to the restaurant is basked in a somewhat comfortable silence, nothing but the low hum of the radio surrounding you. Kai knows his hold on the steering wheel is a bit absurd, his knuckles nearing the color of snow. He couldn’t focus much with you in the passenger seat, the scent of your perfume (the one that drove him insane) filling his nostrils intoxicatingly. He’s lucky his mind stayed aware of what he was doing or else he would’ve crashed long ago.
“Why do you think Bin wants to have dinner?” You suddenly ask as you roll to a stop at a red light.
The only person from your friend group you saw regularly nowadays, was Kai, due to the fact that you lived together. Soobin still lived in the same city as the two of you with his girlfriend, but with his demanding job, he was usually really busy. You made a habit of seeing him about once a month. Taehyun, Yeonjun, and Beomgyu all resided overseas, in the States. The first two had become successful songwriters, while the third made a name for himself as a producer and moved to Los Angeles where they would be in the hotspot for their professions. They came back home a few times a year, this week being one of those.
Kai was also a songwriter, but decided to stay in Korea with you. Whenever you asked why, he’d always give a vague answer. You wished he would just tell you, but didn’t have room to complain, seeing as your best friend didn’t pack up and move across the world from you. You don’t think you could handle having anyone else as a roommate anyways, and you needed someone to split rent with since you hadn’t planned enough weddings yet to be making extreme bank.
“Don’t know. It was a little out of character for him to text so suddenly though.” He responds, turning into the lot of the restaurant.
“Hmm, maybe it wasn’t meant to be sudden? TaeYeonGyu are in town this week, and we didn’t know they were coming until like a couple days ago. He could’ve been waiting for them to come home so we could all be there,” you shrug, unbuckling your seatbelt after he’s parked. “The only question is ‘what for’.”
Kai exhales through his nose, locking his car before you head inside. The stares you receive from random men as you walk up to the host stand has him feeling protective, though he knows it’s not his place. And even if he was here with you platonically, the attention you receive makes him shrink in on himself, like he’s not worthy of standing beside you in public.
Thankfully, the hostess shows you to the table that Soobin reserved a minute later and you find all your friends already waiting for you. After standard greetings, you sit between Kai and Beomgyu. Yeonjun sits on the other side of the latter, Soobin next to him, then his girlfriend directly across from you, and Taehyun on your roommate’s right— bringing it full circle.
Conversation flows smoothly, picking up like you’d all seen each other a day prior. It isn’t until you’re halfway through your meal that the eldest of your group decides to ask the question you were curious about the entire evening.
“So, Soobin, as much as I’m glad we were able to catch up while me and the other two are in town, what was the reason behind this dinner?” Yeonjun clears his throat, setting his glass of wine back on the table.
The ravenette glances to his left at his girlfriend, the couple sharing a look that thoroughly confuses the rest of you. He licks his lips, wiping the corner of his mouth with his napkin before answering. “Well, the five of you know that we’ve,” he gestures between him and his significant other. “Been together for almost four years now and I don’t see myself being with anyone else ever again. So…”
He reaches under the table to grab her hand, lifting it up with the backside facing you. Right on her ring finger sits a pretty engagement ring, glimmering in the dim lighting of the restaurant. You gasp, your hands cupping your cheeks.
“Oh my god! Congrats, guys!”
“Dude, what the hell, why didn’t you tell us you were proposing?” Beomgyu clutches the front of his shirt dramatically, like it physically hurt him that he wasn’t briefed on the situation. “This is the ultimate act of best friend betrayal. You always tell your homies when making a life altering decision.”
Soobin’s girlfriend fiancée giggles at the distressed look on her boyfriend’s face when he says that. “That’s why I didn’t tell you. Because you say dumb shit like that. And also you have a big mouth, so I didn’t think that you could keep it a secret.”
Taehyun, Yeonjun, and Kai also join in on the laughter until they realize that he implied they couldn’t be trusted with that information either. Then the conversation derailed from congratulatory remarks, to the five boys arguing about the ‘true strength’ of their friendship. Your lips curl up at their antics, continuing to finish whatever food was left on your dish.
You were happy for the pair, glad Soobin had found the One. You liked his girlfriend too. She was nice and wasn’t shy around y’all. You appreciated that she didn’t make you feel uncomfortable for being the only girl in a group full of guys, instead expressing her gratitude for you and your ability to keep up with them for so long.
“Even though I’m still heartbroken that Soobin didn’t fill us in on his plan to get engaged, I think this calls for a celebration,” Yeonjun lightly taps his knife against the side of his wine glass. “We should go out after this.”
“There’s a club right next to the hotel we’re staying at, which is pretty convenient.” Taehyun adds, sticking his fork and a piece of his steak in his mouth.
You would’ve jumped for joy at the opportunity to go out and let loose with your friends, but with the shoes you were wearing, you didn’t think your feet couldn’t withstand it. Kai notices the way you look like someone just kicked a puppy in front of you and taps your shoulder. You turn to him with a small frown.
“Ugh, I’d love to go, but my toes are screaming for help, Hyuka. I think we should go home unless you wanna carry me everywhere all night.” You sigh.
His pulse quickens the slightest bit at the thought of carrying you around bridal style, but he pushes it away instantaneously. Huening Kai could not be perceived as a simp, not when he was in his mid-twenties. “I have one of your pairs of emergency sandals in my trunk.”
You smile widely, turning back to the table who was still discussing where you would be going. He thinks it’s the curl of your lips that make him significantly more nervous for that night than he should be. He thinks that with enough alcohol in his system, he’ll pour everything out to you and you’ll know the way he’s felt all this time. It scares the shit out of him.
And it’s those exact nerves that have him hesitant to get out of his car once you’ve arrived at the club Taehyun had suggested. The fluorescent neon sign in front is taunting him, like it knows what will happen before he does, and he doesn’t like the sinking feeling in his stomach one bit.
However, the twinkle of excitement in your eye manages to distract him, effectively dragging him into the building. It spurs him to swipe his card for the cover fee, paying for the both of you instinctively. You wrap your arms around his bicep as you continue inside, yelling over the loud music so he could hear you.
“You didn’t have to do that.”
“I know.” Is all he says, a shrug following.
Your friend group claims an empty high table a few feet from the dance floor, you and Soobin’s fiancée staying behind while the guys went to get drinks. You learn that he had proposed a week ago and was originally going to announce it over text, until she convinced him to do otherwise. He was in the process of planning a group FaceTime when Yeonjun, Beomgyu, and Taehyun revealed they’d be coming home for a week, which then led to him putting together the dinner.
A couple drinks later and you’re feeling pleasantly buzzed, even ordering a round of tequila shots despite fucking hating tequila. Kai watches with a deep fondness as you dance carelessly with Soobin’s fiancée, your expression as bright as the sign outside— and just as teasing, too. He downs the rest of his drink, hoping that it quells the hammering behind his rib cage rather than fuel it.
He needed to last through the remainder of this night and wait one more year. It was just one more year until the two of you would fulfill that silly little pact you created twelve years ago. (If you were still single by then, at least.) Then he could confess to you in the most romantic way possible, complete with the ‘mandatory’ proposal. (It wasn’t really seen as such in his eyes since he’d choose to marry you in a heartbeat, given the decision.)
“Why don’t you just say something to her already?” Taehyun speaks up from beside him, nudging his shoulder.
“I-I can’t,” Kai swallows, his eyes completely focused on you. “I’m scared.”
The older male rolls his eyes. “Of what? You’re both adults. This situation can be discussed maturely, even if she doesn’t feel the same. I don’t think something like that is enough to ruin a bond as strong as the one you have.”
His words ring in his ears louder than the club music. You knew each other like the back of your hands. Sure he’d be heartbroken if you didn’t reciprocate his feelings and it might be a little awkward at first, but he’d rather have you in his life as a friend than not at all. Besides, there was still the off chance that you would follow through with the marriage pact, despite not mentioning it in a few years.
“I’ll think about it.”
You and Soobin’s fiancée come barreling towards the table, out of breath and a bit sweaty. Kai can’t help but chuckle at the way you finish your drink in one go, wiping away the beads of perspiration on your forehead. You turn to him with a tiny smile, your eyes crinkled at the corners.
“You ready to head home? I’m exhausted.” You ask sheepishly, tucking your hair behind your ear. Kai nods immediately and the two of you say your goodbyes.
The drive back home was once again silent except for the AC on full blast and your soft snores, having fallen asleep minutes after he started driving. He feels the subtle way his heart thumps just a beat faster, your face so peaceful it almost physically hurts to look at you.
A small pang of guilt hits him when he realizes he has to wake you from your slumber. You let out a little groan, your eyes fluttering open from the light shakes Kai had inflicted on you. With a pout, you get out of the car and trudge over to the stairs.
“Do you want me to carry you?” He asks suddenly, his tone a little shy. The alcohol in his system made him bolder but not enough to rid of the embarrassment from the question. You blink at him, registering what he just asked in your half-asleep mental state.
“Yes.” Is what you squeak out, pausing in your tracks just before you reach the first step.
He moves in front of you and bends down so you can hop on his back, hooking his arms underneath your knees. He doesn’t know why on earth he’d volunteer himself to do this when he was not strong enough to carry an entire person up two flights of stairs on his own. He’s pretty sure you can tell too, judging by the way you giggle every time he makes a grunt of exertion.
“Am I too heavy? Sorry, Hyuka.” You murmur, right in his ear.
“N-No, you’re fine—” He forces out, strained because he was not prepared for the amount of work it was taking. When he finally makes it to the front door of your apartment, he tries his best to take out his key and unlock the door. You pluck it from his grasp to save him from the struggle, pushing it open with your foot.
You hop off of his back, throwing yourself on the couch as he shuts the door behind him with a sigh. He shakes his head with a snort at the sight of you already getting comfortable on the cushions, like your room wasn’t ten feet down the hallway.
He walks past the sofa to go to his own, but he’s stopped by your hand reaching out and wrapping around his wrist. He glanced down at you, hoping you don’t feel the clamminess of his palms. You prop your head up on the armrest, smiling up at him lazily.
“Thank you,” you near whisper, rubbing his skin with your thumb. “You’ll always be my favorite.”
Kai gulps, the compliment provoking heat in his cheeks. He nods, a weak grin gracing his features. This would be the best time to confess to you. He could just lay himself bare right here right now and it would be such a perfect moment. So, he opens his mouth to start. But you start speaking before he can.
“I know you’ll always look at me even when no one else will.” You say. He furrows his brows and you explain what you mean. “Every time I think someone’s gonna make a move, they don’t. And you’re always there to pick up the pieces for me. I think seeing Soobin and his fiancée tonight, the way they stare at each other like no one else exists, had me remembering that.”
His eyes travel away from you, a painful feeling of remorse burning through his whole body. “That’s my fault.”
“What?”
“I’m the reason guys never pursued you or kept things going,” Kai admits, still not making eye contact with you. “I told them to stay away from you c-cause I didn’t want you to be with anyone else.”
Your hand releases his wrist and you sit upright, not knowing what to make of what he’d just said. Your best friend of twelve years was the reason you had been so lonely? How could he even do that to you?
“What are you saying right now, Kai?” You breathe through your nose, your lips pressing into a straight line.
He knows he could clear things up by clarifying why exactly he’d done such a mean thing. He could tell you his intentions were pure, and he’d done it all in the name of love. That he did it because you wouldn’t dare choose him out of all the boys who floundered at your feet. That he wanted you to pick him at the end of the day.
In spite of that being his most logical option, however, he doesn’t. He just stands there, avoiding your harsh gaze. If he felt small earlier at the restaurant, that was nothing compared to what he was feeling right now.
“Why are you so silent? Do you have nothing more to say? You expected to just drop that on me and things would be fine? Fucking look at me!” You get up from the couch, getting in his face.
“I’m sorry.”
Your vision is blurred with tears and your heart is shattered. Why wouldn’t he answer your questions? You swallow down your emotions. “Get out.”
He blinks at you. “W-What?”
“Get the fuck out, Huening Kai. Go stay at the hotel with the boys for all I care. I can’t do this right now.” Your voice raises, making him flinch.
He snaps out of whatever trance he was in and shuffles to the door, pausing before he walks out to glance back at you. His mouth opens, like he wants to say something else, but ultimately he can’t.
So he leaves.

mj!! i just saw a tiktok thats like "check ur tone before talking to my girl / watch how u talking to her" and neow i need urbig brained delicious thoughts (sfw or nsfw idc!) on possesive/protective!txt !!!!! 🧎🧎
omfg help… instant wet panties 😵‍💫 i hope this is what you had in mind~
edit: y’all i’m CACKLING at these responses i PROMISE it’s not btob minhyuk in soob’s 💀 i just used the first name that came to my mind HAHAHSKSNJ
──────────────────────
yeonjun would not HESITATE.. you’d be at a party together, splitting off for a bit to hang with your respective friends; as protective as he is, he knows you can handle yourself so he’s not immediately racing over when he sees the guy that approaches you.. though his eyes might as well be burning little fires into the guy’s head from the way he’s staring across the room. he’s keeping an eye on his every move, unbeknownst to you; you’re just minding your business, chatting with your friends, and this rando is getting a little too close for comfort, talkin bout sum “why don’t you pay more attention to me instead ahaha” and it’s when you reject his continual advances that his face sours and the name-calling starts. “don’t be such a bitch, you’re lucky i’m even-“
“watch your fucking mouth before i shut it for you.” aaaand there’s yeonjun, seemingly coming out of nowhere. his hand is fixed in an iron grip on the guy’s wrist which had been extending towards you, staring him down — literally down, yeonjun’s height easily surpassing his — with every indication of “i’ll fuck your shit up if i have to” in his eyes. you can tell right away that the guy’s bark is much bigger than his bite as his own eyes are wide, attempting to yank his hand away to no avail, before yeonjun finally releases his grip a few moments later to watch him quickly retreat back into the crowd after some hastily-mumbled apologies. yeonjun scoffs and throws an arm around your shoulders, grumbling and eyeing the area as you just look up at him with a cocked brow and a growing smile, like hello how’d i bag such a baddie ??? him catching your stare and when you jokingly ask “jealous?” he’s rolling his eyes and grumbling about how no one can talk to his girl like that.. he sticks with you the rest of the night, getting extra grabby as you leave to go home — “gotta get your mind off of limpdick lee 🙄” — and you can imagine how the rest of the night goes when he’s determined to show you exactly how you deserve to be treated by a real man 🤤
soobin, bro.. you don’t even see it coming. usually your boyfriend gets pouty and grumpy when he’s jealous, more cute than anything, so you can’t even believe your eyes — or ears — when this time he actually gets scary. not scary for you; you’re just terrified for the other guy. this is the first time you’ve really seen him get so protective; you’d joined him for some schoolmate reunion party that he didn’t even wanna go to in the first place, grumbling about how awkward it would be (but then blushing and grinning to himself when you pointed out how awestruck everyone would become over his 100/10 visuals) and so here you are, his hand in yours as you walk around being introduced to his old classmates. it’s when he leaves you with a kiss on your cheek to go use the bathroom that it happens. you’re perusing the refreshment table, deciding which drink to grab for soobin, when this guy that’s been hanging around the table starts edging himself closer to you. you nearly jump out of your skin when you glance up to see him already staring from 3 feet away. this dude (whose icky school reputation you’re unaware of) becomes relentless in his “flirting”, talking about your body, trying to touch your hair, making you all-around uncomfortable as fuck until suddenly he stops mid-sentence and just stares up at something past your head like a deer in headlights. confused, you turn around and soobin is suddenly standing right behind you with the NASTIEST, MEANEST, most STEELY glare you’ve ever seen grace his pretty face. “minhyuk.” his voice instantly sends shivers up your spine (and down to your core). this ‘minhyuk’ is already backing off with his hands up in surrender as soobin goes, “if you don’t walk the fuck away from her right now, i will make you regret it.” GAH DAMN…. GAH DAMN…. the way you jump his bones later is unreal i’m just sayin. minhyuk is quick to apologize and leave you alone while soobin is quick to grumble out a “we’re leaving” with an aggravated pout forming on his face, the one you know so well — but holy fuck is this about to be the roughest, yummiest, BEST sex that you’ve ever had.
beomgyu omfg 😭 he doesn’t even TRY to have any chill. you’re out shopping together and he’s already hanging all over you in the first place, ever the clingy baby, so when some guy has the AUDACITY to still come up and try hitting on you, beomgyu is not having it. you’re in the video game section arguing over which league of legends dlc you guys should download when you get home, you stopping to test out smash bros on the newest switch model while beomgyu’s got his arms around your waist, head on your shoulder and rocking you back and forth obnoxiously — “GYU YOU’RE MAKING ME DIZZY” “well pay attention to me!!! 😩” — and neither of you notice the store employee that had been lingering in the same aisle, restocking the controller shelf and sneaking glances in your direction. he makes his move when gyu gets distracted by something off to your other side, arms untangling from your waist as he leans over to take a look at the other shelf with one finger hooking mindlessly through your belt loop. “there’s actually a pretty cool new feature on that one, here lemme show you 😉” you’re standing there like 👁️👄👁️ when the voice that is not your boyfriend’s is suddenly all up in your space, this guy reaching past you from behind, going through some game settings that you’re not even paying attention to because why is this guy’s sweaty chest pressed up against my back?????? “what the fuck” aaand beomgyu has tuned back into the channel. lip curled and a 🤨 look on his face that he doesn’t even try to hide; you’re both standing there like the surprised pikachu meme for a second before the cogs start turning again. “dude. why are you touching my girl?” shouldering his way between you, arm protectively going around your waist again as he blocks the employee off with his large frame. the guy’s hands going up as he defends himself, “hey, she was asking for it.” THE WAYYYYY THAT BEOMGYU’S JAW WOULD DROP ??!?! “what the fuck did you just say?” ohhhhhhhh he’s mad now.. facing the guy while keeping you behind him, dude’s eyes widening as he realizes his mistake — “uh, i didn’t mean-“ “i don’t care what the fuck you meant, you don’t get to fucking talk to my girl like that, you piece of-” you have to DRAG him out of the store and he’s ranting the entire way, finally grabbing your face and kissing you firmly when you get to the car before grumbling “you weren’t asking for shit..” league of legends be damned, he’s fucking you good the second you get home.
taehyun….. 👁️👁️ is it hot in here already….? you guys don’t go clubbing often, but when you do, your boyfriend is like a blinking neon sign that reads “touch my girl and i’ll run you into the ground 😀.” he hates leaving you alone even for a second, not because he doesn’t trust you, but because he doesn’t trust “all these fucking horndogs that wanna get with you.” his words, not yours. barely drinks anything at first cuz if he has to pee then he has to leave you alone 💀 eventually you convince him to be more chill, have some drinks, and you’re enjoying yourselves — pressed all up on him on the side of the dance floor 🤤 — until begrudgingly he finally excuses himself to the bathroom. you stay put, bopping your head along to the music as you sip at your drink, leaning against the wall to avoid getting knocked into by any dancing bodies. perhaps this backfires, however, when one of those bodies, fairly drunk and heading straight for you, cages you in with his arms before you can even process his intention. his breath reeks of alcohol as you flatten yourself as much against the wall as you can, eyes flitting nervously towards the direction of the bathrooms, praying taehyun will be quick as this manchild croons to you about how he’s been watching you all night and couldn’t wait to get you alone like this. “my boyfriend’s gonna fuck you up,” you mutter, and fuck him up he does. in a flash the guy is on the ground, reeling from the gut punch he just received, taehyun standing there with a terrifyingly calm look on his face. “what do you think you’re doing?” there’s a warning in his eyes, a warning that this bitch ignores as he stumbles to his feet, throwing all kinds of colorful words at the both of you, before stopping mid-tirade as taehyun steps forward calmly, gripping the guy’s collar in his fist as he stares down at him and says with gritted teeth, “you have 5 seconds to walk away before i shove my foot so far up your ass that you’ll be tasting leather. try touching my girl like that again and see what fucking happens.” the raging storm in his eyes paired with the level tone of his voice has your thighs squeezing together despite the situation, and when the man scurries away, you almost feel dizzy at the burning kiss taehyun gives you. muttering “we aren’t coming here again” as he immediately leads you out to the car, heading back home where the filthiest fuck of your life awaits you 😍
kai tends to get quiet when he gets jealous. his instinct being to close himself off more, becoming a careful observer rather than an outright confronter; which is why you’re taken so off guard by the open display of back the fuck off that he dishes out one day when you’re at a convention together. you’re exploring the different booths hand in hand, gushing over the merch tables and limited edition figurines, debating whether or not you should add to your shared plushie collection — when suddenly from behind you comes a low “damn, what a nice ass.” you almost don’t catch it at first. you almost don’t process that it’s being directed at you if not for kai freezing beside you, gaze snapping over his shoulder to the crusty man stood eyeballing you shamelessly. you’re both in shock for a moment until an uneasy feeling creeps over you, and kai can tell. “what did you just say?” your eyes flicker up to him and widen; you’ve never seen him look so serious. his tone is careful, but you can tell that he’s angry. the man is rolling his eyes and saying something like “i wasn’t talking to you, kid, was i?” as he reaches forward as if ready to tweak at your skirt with his fingers. you quickly back up into kai and his hand is flashing out at lightning speed to shove the man’s arm back. “you need to step away.” he’s firm now, holding his ground even as the man sneers at him and starts, “yeah? or what-“ “you need to step away right now before i fucking make you. do not try me.” you’re GOBSMACKED, is this really your sweet plushie loving boyfriend ??!!?!? whatever sexy protective spirit possessed him, you hope that it stays, because the man is visibly shaken even as he scoffs and leaves the booth behind. you turn to look up at your boyfriend whose brows are furrowed over dark eyes, and he’s quickly asking if you’re okay, asking if you want to leave, rambling out questions of concern that have you interrupting him with a simple statement: “i’m gonna suck you off so good later.” his face turns bright red as he stops functioning for a second before groaning and mumbling all these things about how you should be treated like a princess and an angel and.. let’s just say that you definitely feel like one later that night after he’s done with you <3

☆ YEONJUN
gives you stickers he gets as freebies in his packages. Yeonjun is a sucker for a good pair of jeans, a heavy leather jacket and some silver accessories to top it off. The thing is, being fresh out of university and moving out of the dorms into a small studio is quite a problem when you’re a clothes fanatic such as yeonjun. So, to earn some money beside his job and keep his closet in order, he opens an account on some popular secondhand online shops. Yeonjun likes showing off his new finds to you, excitedly telling you about the deal he managed to get, how happy he is to finally get his hands on said item and upon seeing your soft smile, kissing you on the temple and whispering how he’ll make sure you two match. Sometimes, the package includes freebies, mainly stickers, which he immediately sets aside for you– you and your students would love this, he thinks. Yeonjun sells clothes too though, and you find it particularly endearing how he refuses to reuse any of the stickers as freebies, because they are yours, like he always claims.
☆ SOOBIN
buys the food for the classroom's pet. Soobin used to work at a pet store in his first year of university to be able to afford his own car. The pet store was also the place where you both bumped into each other for the first time, and where you ended up sharing your first kiss after you decided to swing by to check in on him. So in short, the pet store in between the old dinner and newly-renovated 7-11 meant a lot to the both of you. Years had passed and now you both only stepped foot in the store a few times a year, just enough to not forget the workers’ faces and see the new animals come in. The next time your boyfriend visited the pet store was exactly a few days after your principal allowed your class to get a classroom pet– a cute hamster whose name was Snickers, voted by your students. The owner of the store welcomed Soobin with a wide grin and a pat on the back, even offering him a discount on the hamster food you had begged him to get since you’d forget (he acted like you owed him but in reality, it was on his way to work and he could never resist your pretty pout). It would become part of your routine, your boyfriend buying Snickers’ food when needed and you accompanying him on the weekends, staring at the cute animals with joy while the store owner and his old boss teased him about the heart eyes he’d send you. Ah, young love, he’d say, laugh resonating through the store.
☆ BEOMGYU
sharpens the classroom's pencils for you every friday. Beomgyu’s week is usually always booked– when he isn’t studying or working, he’s playing the guitar and meeting up with friends and family. That doesn’t mean though that you aren’t spending any time together, but more often than not your dates or “quality time” moments are are the end of the week (he once claimed he likes it because he enjoys ending his week on a good note– tsk, what a romantic). He hasn’t outright told you that he likes the comforting silence when you’re both sitting in the living room, cozying up together and doing your own things, but the way he shyly nods when you pat the space next to you on the couch every time is proof. Sometimes Beomgyu just needs life to be a bit more peaceful, and sharpening all your classroom’s pencils while you grade your students’ papers next to him is exactly fulfilling that need. Once in awhile too, if he’s free, he will walk into your empty classroom with a grin as you do your “typical end-of-the-day teacher things”, ready to pick up every single pencil off the floor and from under the desks, just so you don’t have to collect them and you can go home, together.
☆ TAEHYUN
helps you paint your monthly and seasonal banners for your classroom. Taehyun isn’t a very artistic person– younger, he’d more the type to clumsily spread different colors of paint over the canvas, turning the stunning colors in a brown mess– but he fails to help you out if you’re feeling even the slightest bit out of inspiration. Truly, you had been planning and working on these banners for your classroom for months and to say you were getting tired at the unaesthetically pleasing sight in front of you was an understatement. The only banner you were missing was the one for fall but every time you tried to paint out a beautiful scenery with trees and fallen leaves, the dark colors only made you want to bury yourself six feet under. Only one call of your boyfriend’s name was needed for him to come running to your rescue, taking a pause to look at your “art” before stiffing his laughter and settling next to your on the ground. It wasn’t long before Taehyun had filled the banner with mushrooms and squirrels, brushing paint on the fabric carefully. He was proud of his artwork at the end and you could only smile, thanking him with a kiss and a promise to show his work off. When the next Monday came, you couldn’t help but snap a photo at all your students admiring the new banner, scooting closer to it to take a better look and giggling at the baby squirrel.
☆ HUENING KAI
prepares you your favorite drink in colorful thermos mugs. Huening kai wakes up around the time you’re getting ready to leave for work and every time without fail, he’s drag himself out of bed and to the kitchen to make you your favorite drink. While the water boils-- you usually have coffee, sometimes hot chocolate if you’re feeling a little bit silly– your boyfriend would walk over to where standing rummaging through your bag for your daily-use lipbalm and stare. He’d look you up and down and even wink at you if you make eye contact. He would compliment your outfit (“your shoes go well with your pants, they make you look taller”, “I like how you did your hair this morning”, “your eye shadow is cute, did you use the new pallet I bought you?”, etc..) and kiss you good morning before walking off to finish his daily task at the ping of the boiler. Just before you walk out the door, a sleepy voice calls out to you and a thermos mug is soon pushed in your free hand. The mug’s color matches perfectly well with your outfit and you blush at the effort, kissing him goodbye and leaving for work, ready to brag about your favorite drink and new mug to your students– you just know they are going to be thrilled at the flower print.

"𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚- 𝗜 𝗖𝗔𝗡,𝗧-" Kai grunted, pressing your face further into the bed with his big hands, the pressure of his thick & long cock stretching you out almost painfully. Yet he was determined to make it all fit. He was just so big, his cock sopping with lewd fluids and red as if it were angry, desperate to be engulfed in your warmth.
Kai clicked his tongue as if he were disappointed but never stopped pushing his hips forward. He only had about half of his cock in your tiny pussy, yet you were already on the verge of tears.
You clutched the bedsheets as a waterfall of tears slipped down your poor puffy cheeks; you were just as desperate as Kai was to make it fit, but you weren't sure. He was just so fucking big. It hurt yet it felt so good, like ecstasy, like a drug that hazed your vision and clouded your mind.
And you just knew as soon as the rest of his inches were buried inside of you, it'd feel perfect. Like something you've been waiting for— like finally having that final piece you've been longing to feel for so long.
"Fuck, bubs, you gotta loosen up—" Kai tilted his head back, feeling how tight you were was making him hiss and groan. Your boyfriend gripped your hips, forgetting his strength and probably etching bruises into your skin, "I'm gonna fucking cum if you don't... relax, baby, p-please..."
You tried, you were so focused on making it fit. Making all of him fit. Another inch filled you up, and you could already feel his angry red tip kiss your cervix— more like stab it. You flinched and let out a sob, making Kai pause, bending forward and breathing into your neck with worry.
"You alright? Should we stop?" He whispered, kissing your shoulders and cooing. Kai was so gentle yet at the same time powerful. He sometimes forgot he was 6' and incredibly strong, almost letting all his weight pile on top of you, burning your skin with his bare chest and crimson skin.
"No— Ning, please, d-don't stop," You pleaded as another set of tears rolled down you face. Kai kissed it better; lips wet with your salty tears, eyes worried but his body so desperate for you. It was hard to stop his hips from rolling, enamored but the way your cunt took him.
"I wan' it. I wan' it so f-fucking bad!" Another inch sunk into your cunt, wet walls fluttering around him. Kai kissed your cheek again, strong hand pressed by your face and gripping the fabric of the sheets in his knuckles.
Kai's pretty nose dragged across your flushed skin, down your back as he kissed up and down your spine. He used his hand to steady you, resting on your tummy as he felt himself sink deeper and deeper... oh, so deliciously.
"Almost there, you're doing so good," Kai mumbled, resisting the urge to just thrust forward and make it all fit in one go. But he knew better than to do that; he would never intentionally hurt his baby like that.
"Just a little— little bit more to go," Kai looked down at the way his erect cock inserted into your cunt, precum wetting around his length where the last few inches lay exposed. It looked like it was dipped in elixir— like honey, sticky and beautifully shimmering.
"Feels— s' full," You spoke so lazily, a drawl of pleasure in your voice. It was hard to form sentences that made sense when he was so deep inside of you.
"I know, I know, bubs," Kai finally felt your cunt loosen, almost begging him to slot himself fully inside of you, "Holy f-fuck—"
And finally Kai was balls deep inside of you, feeling every inch of your walls envelope his cock like a perfect sleeve. Suddenly everything was right, you let out a long moan, loud enough to bounce off the walls and pleasure his ears.
"That's it, that's my good girl..." Kai tilted his head back, resisting every urge to blow, "Tell me when, okay?"
You nodded, frantically gripping and clawing at any pillow or blanket you could. Your mouth lay open, puddles of drool and tears beneath your face.
"Feels— feels good," You utter out between a breathless whimper, "Ning, m' ready for you."
Kai didn't hesitate to move, only softly with an experimental roll of his hips, instantly your cunt pulsated around him, pulling him in deeper as if you were silently begging for him. Your boyfriend groaned, bending forward to wrap his arms around your tummy, gripping you to his chest.
"Fuck, baby, can't hold back—" Kai's hips couldn't be stopped as he began fucking into you from behind, one frantic thrust after another. Soon, the sound of your soaked cunt filling and emptying of his cock was all that could be heard; apart from your endless moans and whines, that is. It was hard to breathe, Kai barely gave you time to think between each thrust, and it only got quicker and hotter from there.
"F-fuck! Ning, s-slow down!" You tried but Kai didn't listen, which a part of you loved. You loved having him like this, using you as if you were a little flesh light just for his pleasure. And paired with the tender touches and gentle coos of apologies he gave you for his almost unstoppable actions, it was heaven sent. The perfect combo.
"M' sorry, I c-can't," Kai held your stomach and pressed all his weight into your back, sticky sweaty skin rubbing together, "You feel so fucking good— fuck, fuck, I'm cumming!"
Before you could even protest (not that you could. Your brain wasn't functioning right. It felt like it was melting out your ears) Kai spilled his seed into you. Pounding into you with his nose buried in the shallow part of your neck, his own whines leaving you on the verge of cumming yourself.
You shuddered as cum filled you to the brim, leaning out in lewd globs and disgusting sounds as he rode out his exhilarating high.
"Ning— s'full, can't—"
Kai, despite the overstimulation, continued thrust his hips into you. A ring of his own cum pooling at the base of his cock as he did so. To stop his wild whines he bit into your neck, whimpering like a dog in heat as he finally felt that familiar flutter of your walls clenching around him.
And soon you were cumming too; engrossed in the pleasure as your face was swallowed by the blankets and another batch of relentless tears coated the sheets.
After a minute of silence (apart from your moans and his whimpers of pleasure) Kai bent down again, kissing the last tear that felt from your eyes, "Proud of you, baby... took me so well."

day twenty one of KINKTOBER → overstimulation
w/ huening kai
warnings! : handjob, sub! kai, begging
Tumblr media
"Too much..." you felt bad for the boy. For the last half an hour Kai came two times already, just getting close to his third one. You would have thought it would take longer each time, but it was easier to bring him to the edge. You wanted to stop at his first, but as helped him ride out his orgasm he got hard again, squirming under your hand from the overstimulation. "Please, I'll be good just stop..." he whined eyes shot close, tears forming at the edge of his eyes.
You didn't touch him with anything else, just your hand. With your hand you can touch his sensitive spots, and rub just where he wants, bringing him close to heaven. You checked him out as he was throwing his arms around, gripping the sheets, and letting out cute noises. You enjoyed every bit of it, listening to his cute begging, his heavy breathing every time you touched a sensitive spot. "Please, I'll be good,"
Your hand was slipping on his hard dick, his cum dripping down your hand from his latest climax. You played with his soft hair as your other hand worked on his cock fast as his whole body shook under you. "I'm a good boy... just for you." you smiled at his cute words, telling him that he was in fact your good boy.
His hand grabbed your wrist, holding onto it tightly as he bit his bottom lip to hold back his cries. "I love you so much." he quickly whispered before he let out a pretty high-pitched moan. His breath started quickening, you knew he was close... again. You sped up your movements, your fingers effortlessly slipping down his dick, his thigh trembling. "Fuck..." he moaned before he stopped breathing as his orgasm hit him. "Ah- Oh my God." he raised his hips, fucking himself up to into your hand, his cum dripping down your hand onto his tummy. "Can we stop now?" he asked softly, but your hands still moved at a decent speed, not letting him calm down. "What about one last one, hm?"

Soobin
You'd tried everything, from warm baths to drinking god-awful concoctions people swore by on the internet. But you were still sick. You'd been holed up in your bedroom for almost a week, leaving poor Soobin to have to sleep on the couch. You missed him, but you couldn't let him catch what you had. The only contact you'd had with him all week was through texting, and the meals he'd leave outside the bedroom door for you.
Of course, you'd been apart longer than this before; being in a successful group, Soobin often went on tour for months at a time. But this almost seemed harder, maybe because you felt miserable physically and just wanted to be held and loved on.
"I just wanted to see you," came his muffled voice, a hint whiny. "I won't come any further than this, I promise."
Sighing, you retreated from hiding. You hadn't seen him with your own eyes for what felt like longer than it actually was. There was no helping how good it felt to look at him now. "I miss you."
His lopsided smile gave you a rush of warmth. "Please get better before I go crazy."
You felt guilty. "I'm sorry. You can go and stay at Taehyun's if you-"
Soobin's mouth quirked, his brow creased. "It's not that. I just want to see you, touch you, have a real conversation. I want to hold you until we fall asleep." You felt the longing for him increase. "You always take care of me when I'm sick, even if you might catch it. Please, let me do the same for you."
His eyes held a helpless look that tugged at your heart as much as his words did. You felt your resolve crack, and it must have shown in your face, Soobin crossing the threshold and shuffling towards the bed. Relief flooded through you as he crawled up next to you and tucked you into his arms. His warmth was everything you'd needed for the past week, and he sighed as you buried your face against his neck. You swear you started melting when you felt his fingers in your hair. This was home.
Yeonjun
You weren't sure how long you'd felt like this. Time seems a blur when most of it is spent in bed, falling in and out of sleep and dreams. It took a monumental effort just to roll from one side to the other, so you couldn't remember the last time you'd eaten or showered. One small mercy was the fact that your ears were blocked, muffling the noise of the world outside the window; birds and neighbours dogs and traffic sounds couldn't disturb your sporadic naps.
Suddenly there was soft skin against your cheek, a warm palm and fingertips that you leaned into without question, and a deep sound somewhere close by. It took a few minutes for your mind to kick in and realise that these things were real and not a dream. Opening your eyes to the dim room, you found a face smiling down at you; your Yeonjun. But something was strange about this. Hadn't you been alone? Wasn't there a reason you were in the middle of the big bed, his pillow trapped between your arms?
"Junie?" You whinced as your voice seemed to reverberate through your head, your throat burning as the word tore through it.
"Hey, baby," he replied softly. You felt his fingers swipe the hair off your forehead before his nose was touching your own.
With what little strength you had, you tried to sink further into the mattress to put space between the two of you. "Jun, I'm- I'm sick."
"It's okay." You felt his arm slither under your back and peel you off the bed, pulling you into him. "I'm here."
You sniffled, swallowing against the dryness of your mouth that comes with not being able to breathe through your nose for so long. "Why?"
"'Why?'" He laughed. "Because the tour ended and I came home to you. Aren't you happy to see me?"
You nodded weakly against his chest. "Junie... I'm sick," you said again, half warning and half complaint.
His hand began to rub your back soothingly, and it felt so good to be in his arms again that you sighed heavily, raspily. "I know, babe, I'm sorry."
"You shouldn't..." Words were too hard. Instead, you brought your hand to his chest and tried to push him, rather feebly, away.
A large hand wrapped around your wrist, softly pulling your arm up over his shoulder. "I don't care. I missed you."
Not having it in yourself to argue, you surrendered, letting your body totally relax into his. You had pictured him coming home after tour very differently than this. You wanted to kiss him. You wanted to talk about his trip, but you couldn't fight your body. You heard the rumble of his voice again. "What?"
"I'll make you some chicken soup," he repeated. But as he tried to turn to leave the bed you grabbed a handful of his shirt. You heard him chuckle, and his arms were back around you again. "Maybe later, then."
Beomgyu
One minute you were studying, the next you were being woken by your phone blasting the most annoying ringtone Beomgyu had set for himself. You scrambled to snatch the phone off the desk where you had evidently fallen asleep. "Gyu? What time is it?"
"Half past the time you were supposed to meet me at the cinema."
Your heart sank. How long had you been asleep? "Oh no. I'm so sorry, I fell asleep."
"Why do you sound like you're talking into a tin can?"
Now that you were more awake, you noticed the feeling in your throat, the pounding of your head. Sure, falling asleep with your head on a desk wasn't the best, but you'd never known it to make your head feel like this. Come to think of it, you couldn't breathe through your nose very well either. You thought back and vaguely remembered your roommate having had a cough before she left for the weekend. There was a knock at the door.
"Hang on," you said into the phone, crossing the small space to open the door and-
"You look terrible," Beomgyu said, to your face and in your ear before hanging up. His cheeks were flushed, telling you he'd walked all the way here, in the cold, probably to check on you.
"Wow, thanks," you deadpanned as you let him in. "When's the next showing? Maybe we can make that one."
Your boyfriend pulled his hood down and looked at you for a moment before pressing his palm to your forehead. Trying not to flinch at the coldness of his hand, you looked up at him, his eyes still studying you.
"You're hot," he told you.
You scoffed, but it came out as more of a cough. "That's not what you were saying a minute ago."
Without another word, Beomgyu's hands were on your shoulders, turning you around and steering you through the small dorm room and sitting you down on your bed. Then he disappeared into the bathroom, coming back with a towel that he pressed against your head.
"I'm fine," you sighed. "Let's go see the movie."
Beomgyu tisked, gesturing for you to hold the towel before dipping to his knees to pull off your slippers. "The only movie you're seeing tonight is the DVD I got you for Christmas." Standing up again, he shooed you up the bed and pulled the covers over you.
"But we've seen that a hundred times," you whined. You'd been looking forward to a night out with your boyfriend; the movie, popcorn, leaving the confines of your dorm room after so many days and nights of studying.
"But you love it," he retorted, mocking your whiny tone. He handed you the remote for the tiny TV at the foot of your bed. "I'm guessing you haven't had dinner?" You shook your head. "Got any cup ramen?" You nodded.
You opened your mouth again to complain, but the words never came as Beomgyu kissed you on the top of the head and walked over to boil the kettle. Instead you let yourself sink into the comfort of your bed, only now noticing how exhausted you actually were. So you weren't going to get your date, but how could you complain when you had a boyfriend like this?
Taehyun
You were up before Taehyun this morning - an unusual occurrence. You'd woken up with a funny feeling in your throat and quickly but quietly escaped his room to cough without waking him. Then you'd tiptoed to the kitchen to boil water, eyes meeting with Yeonjun's who was sitting at the table eating cereal. His smirk said it all.
You were sat on the couch when Taehyun emerged from his room, tired eyes searching for you. By now, Soobin and Beomgyu were also sitting at the table eating. Taehyun plodded over to you. "Morning."
"Don't get contaminated," Yeonjun called, looking up from his phone. You narrowed your eyes at him.
Soobin, who looked like he could've still been half asleep, whipped his head up in confusion, chewing his toast with a new expression.
Taehyun's eyes swept from his friend to you, scanning your face for signs of anything amiss. "Are you not feeling well?"
"M'fine," you croaked, arms wrapped around yourself inside your hoodie as you tried to hold off a shiver.
"Tried to cough up a whole cat this morning," Yeonjun snitched. Soobin looked between Yeonjun and Beomgyu, still puzzled, his messy bed hair comedically flapping side to side.
You rolled your eyes, looking up at Taehyun with a small pout. "I just have a cough. It's probably the change in the weather."
"Or bronchitis."
Taehyun ignored the oldest boy's comment as he crouched down in front of you. "Do you want me to go to the pharmacy?"
"Really," you persisted. "I'm fine. I feel okay, just an itchy throat." As if on cue, you started to cough again, burying your face into the crook of your arm, then quickly tried to recover yourself. "I don't want you to worry."
"Sounds like a duck," Beomgyu said with a tone that gave away his amusement.
Taehyun sighed and rubbed up and down your arms comfortingly. "I just want to help you feel better, so anything you need, you just tell me, okay?"
You nodded. He stood up and went to the kitchen to start breakfast, giving you a kiss on the cheek first. Suddenly there was a commotion, as Beomgyu grabbed his breakfast bowl and ran from the kitchen yelling, "twenty-three nineteen!"
Huening Kai
The first thing that you noticed was a dull ache in your head. You'd taken some pain relief, thinking it was just a normal headache, and pushed on to get ready for your dinner plans. Kai's parents were always so happy to have you for dinner, and to see him catching up with them and his sisters made you happy, too.
You started to feel a little weak halfway through your meal, participating in conversation less and less, and after dinner you'd slipped away to a quiet room for what was supposed to be a few minutes. Your body felt heavy, more exhausted than what would be expected, and as you sat on an armchair in the dimly lit room, you became aware of the dull ache in your muscles. Eyes closing, the sound of distant chatter and laughter from the dining room lulled you quickly into unexpected sleep.
Kai had thought you were gone for the bathroom, and after ten minutes of your absence, his eyes flicking to the door every so often in anticipation of your reappearance, he thought he should check on you - maybe something you'd eaten wasn't agreeing with you. When he'd knocked on the bathroom door and there was no reply, he'd let himself in only to find it empty. He checked the kitchen, then the garden, then walked back to the dining room to see if you'd returned there while he'd been away. His mother joined him as he went to check the living room.
The two of them found you dozing and lowered their voices to a whisper, Mrs. Huening commenting that you hadn't seemed yourself earlier. Kai gently touched the back of his hand to your forehead and found it clammy. This, along with the headache you'd mentioned before the drive up and how quiet you'd been, probably meant you'd come down with something, and he decided to take you home.
That's how you woke up in Kai's arms, in the cold night air, on the way to the car. "There you are," he said when he noticed you awake. "Have a nice nap?"
You noticed a sore throat was beginning as you spoke, glancing around the street. "We're leaving?"
His soft brown eyes met yours as he continued to walk. His arms kept you steady against his chest, so you barely felt like you were on the move. "You're exhausted. You fell asleep."
You hated that you were the reason Kai's family time was being cut short and that you hadn't said goodbye to anyone. "I'm fine, Hyuka. Let's go back. Please?"
He came to a stop as he reached the car, looking down into your eyes again with a soft smile. "You need rest. We'll go home, I'll run a bath, and then we'll get into bed." Seeing you open your mouth to argue, he added, "Let me take care of you."
You couldn't argue with that.
