On this day, 7 January 2019, a group of Indigenous land defenders was attacked by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) who had been instructed to use violence and were prepared to use deadly force. The activists were defending the Gidimt’en checkpoint, east of the Unist'ot'en protest camp, which had been erected to prevent the construction of a gas pipeline on ancestral lands of the Wet’suwet’en nation in the province of British Columbia, Canada. Senior RCMP officers had stated that “lethal" force was "req'd”, and had instructed police to “use as much violence toward the gate as you want”. During the attack 14 people were arrested and the barricades were destroyed. For more than 20 years, First Nations peoples have been fighting the growing encroachment by fossil fuel companies in the region. Despite the repression, resistance to the pipeline continued. Tlingit land defender Anne Spice told the Guardian newspaper: “The police are here to support the invasion of Indigenous territories… It is what they’ve always done." The paramilitary RCMP was specifically created to facilitate genocide against Indigenous peoples, by violent relocation, to suppress any resistance and forcibly remove Indigenous children from their families in order to place them in residential schools and indoctrinate them into colonialist and capitalist structures. https://www.facebook.com/workingclasshistory/photos/a.294735704044920/2181138992071239/?type=3

I fucking hate having autism and depression as a leftist, and here's a big reason why:
So one symptom of autism is something called executive dysfuction, where (IN MY OWN IN EXPERIENCE, NOT ANYONE ELSES AND I DIDNT DO JACK SHIT OF RESEARCH OTHER THAN MEMES AND CONVOS) basically you want to do something, you know how to do it, and it's not that hard, and you literally just can't do it. An example is wanting, needing, and knowing how to do the laundry, and yet you just don't or can't do it.
And then there's depression, where you have something similar, we except that it's due to extreme demotivation rather than a specific mental block (i think, idk this is just a rant post pls correct me on the things I'm wrong about).
Combine the two inside the body of a goddamn leftie and you get two fucking blockages made of brainfuckery and hopelessness, and bundles on top of the desperate need to actually try to make the world a better place, adding more guilt and shit on top.
I've been trying to gain the momentum to make a TikTok about the Unist'ot'en camp in Canada trying to fight against the oppressive colonizer government and oil tycoons and I just fucking can't. My account makes content in both English and Spanish and it's a bit much to work through. Bit I've had so much time to make this TikTok but I can't. And it tears me apart that I can't. I feel like I have an obligation and a duty to speak up and organize but I'm too shit at communicating and dedication from school burnout and social anxiety that I just can't do anything. I feel paralyzed and feel almost fake.
So yeah. It's not easy being mentally queer and I'll when you want the world around you to stop burning so much. Hopefully someone finds this worthy of talking about or something.

From August 25th until Sept 7th, we encourage you to apply to join our team in a socially distant and responsible two week push to ensure the Unist’ot’en can continue their crucial healing work.
We’re especially interested in hearing from folks who already have aptitude in: carpentry and construction, plumbing, electrical, mechanics, and building of all kinds.  We could also use an experienced cook who can stick around after work camp for a few weeks to a few months.
If you aren’t skilled in those areas but want to work hard, learn skills, work in a team, and can follow instructions, we also want to hear from you!  Returning work camp folks, get registered and get on up here!
We will have a dedicated kitchen team monitoring food and sanitation, strict covid-19 screening will be in place to keep all of our communities safe, and folks will be asked to bring camping gear.  Please be prepared to stay outdoors.  It’s throwback work camp, 2014 style!  Please apply through www.unistoten.camp/come-to-camp and be prepared to be interviewed.  No one will be allowed at work camp without going through screening and registration first. Please do not fly to camp unless you can self isolate for 14 days before interacting with folks in the North.
If you can stay longer, we encourage you to apply! Spots are very limited.

“In our experience, since first contact, RCMP have been created by the federal government to dispossess Indigenous peoples of their lands,” Huson said. “They have proven [that] through their harassment of my people to support Coastal GasLink in invading our territories.”
...
The RCMP were prepared to arrest children and grandparents: “No exception, everyone will be arrested in the injunction area,” a document reads. Another makes reference to possible child apprehension by social services – a troubling disclosure given the violent history of residential schooling in Canada and the disproportionate number of Indigenous children currently in the child welfare system.
...
The RCMP’s suppression of Indigenous dissent against resource extraction is rooted in its founding as a paramilitary entity 150 years ago.
In the late 1800s, the RCMP (formerly the Northwest Mounted Police) carried out surveillance, violent displacement and relocation of Indigenous peoples onto reserves, and the forcible removal of Indigenous children from their families in order to place them in residential schools. Advocates say it was the police force which enabled the Canadian government to seize Indigenous homelands and undermine Native sovereignty.
