ORLANDO, Fla. (WFLA) — A University of Central Florida student was arrested after he allegedly made threats to shoot three Jewish students during a school event last week.
According to documents, Palestinian-American student Seif Asi, 21, approached a table of Jewish students and got into a one to two-minute “heated conversation” during a UCF Office of Student Involvement approved pro-Israel free expression event on Jan. 23.
The University of Central Florida Police Department said once Asi walked away, one of the students ran to a marked patrol car and was “visibly scared.” The student told UCFPD that Asi had threatened to shoot them with a gun.
When UCFPD stopped Asi, he told them that he was Palestinian and had family in Palestine, adding that he was tired of seeing Jewish supporters on campus and complained about a pro-Israel match that occurred last week.
The arrest report shows that Asi told police he saw the same group of students at the march, and it made him upset when he saw them setting up their table on Tuesday. He also told police that he’s “tired of seeing students on campus defend the killing of Palestinian people.”
The 21-year-old said he was on his way back from working out when his “emotions got the better of him.” Police said he apologized for his behavior and asked if he could apologize to the students, acknowledging that he shouldn’t have made the threat.
According to documents, Asi denied owning a firearm, and no weapon was found on his person.
The three victims, who are part of a group called “Students Supporting Israel” or SSI, provided sworn verbal and written statements consistent with each other. The students said Asi accused them of supporting the death of his family members back home. Then, all three students allegedly heard Asi say, “You won’t be here anymore when I come back and shoot you.”
Asi was arrested and charged with three counts of intimidation and credible threat to a person wearing a religious item, according to officials.
Following Asi’s arrest, UCF released a statement saying that while Asi apologized, he would still have to answer for violating university policy and state and federal laws.
“While the student acknowledged his emotions got the better of him and apologized for his words, he will still have to answer for the violations of university policy and state and federal laws,” the statement read in part.

The precious metals, such as platinum, palladium and rhodium, in catalytic converters make the vehicle devices attractive to thieves, but University of Central Florida researchers are working to reduce the amount of precious metals needed in them -- down to single atoms -- while still maximizing their effectiveness.
Catalytic converters, which were widely introduced in American vehicles in the 1970s, use precious metals as catalysts to help scrub deadly and harmful chemicals from combustion engine exhaust. As the price of precious metals has continued to rise, so has the number of catalytic converter thefts.
In recent studies appearing in Nature Communications and the Journal of the American Chemical Society, UCF researchers showed that they could, respectively, use atomic platinum to control pollutants and operate the system at lower temperatures, which is crucial to removing harmful chemicals when a vehicle first starts.

Home Sweet Home...
We moved Jo into her new college apartment for the final time last weekend. She is with two of her friends for that last run at college life. She also finished up her final week of internship. She really liked and thrived at this opportunity. We are all hopeful this turns more permanent later this year before her December graduation from UCF.
Ebaugh finally after a 4 month house hunt found a residence and signed the lease today! We are completely grateful for this search coming to a happy end. He really loves this place and will be with his friend for his final year at FAU. We will be taking some needed furniture to him next week as this is his first unfurnished place. This lease lasts through next August which covers his graduation time and into his working experience. It's most likely he will turn the 20-hour job into a full time position by this time next year. His next challenge will be getting into PA school, but he's ready to wait for this to gain valuable experience he needs.
With Frooze at her job, that makes the trifecta of parenting!

Using resources found in space to construct off-world structures can drastically reduce the need to transport building materials for programs like Artemis. As part of NASA's Artemis program to establish a long-term presence on the moon, it aims to build an Artemis base camp that includes a modern lunar cabin, rover and mobile home. This fixed habitat could potentially be constructed with bricks made of lunar regolith and saltwater, thanks to a recent discovery from a team of UCF researchers.
Associate Professor Ranajay Ghosh of UCF's Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and his research group found that 3D-printed bricks of lunar regolith can withstand the extreme environments of space and are a good candidate for cosmic construction projects. Lunar regolith is the loose dust, rocks and materials that cover the moon's surface.
To create the bricks, Ghosh's team in the Complex Structures and Mechanics of Solids (COSMOS) Lab used a combination of 3D printing and binder jet technology (BJT), an additive manufacturing method that forces out a liquid binding agent onto a bed of powder. In Ghosh's experiments, the binding agent was saltwater, and the powder was regolith made by UCF's Exolith Lab.
"BJT is uniquely suitable for ceramic-like materials that are difficult to melt with a laser," Ghosh says. "Therefore, it has great potential for regolith-based extraterrestrial manufacturing in a sustainable way to produce parts, components and construction structures."

The flow of digital information through fiber-optic cables lining the sea floor could be compromised by climate change. That's according to new research published in the journal Earth-Science Reviews by scientists from the United Kingdom’s National Oceanography Centre and the University of Central Florida. They found that ocean and nearshore disturbances caused by extreme weather events have exposed “hot spots” along the transglobal cable network, increasing the risk of internet outages.
