caved and made ramen anyways. 11 pm isn't that unreasonable to be making microwave ramen i was just embarrassed earlier because i distinctly remember my dad coming into my room at some point and making a comment i didn't actually comprehend because i wasn't fully awake before just turning off my lights and closing the door and then i ran into him turning in for the night when i woke up. and i didn't want him to hear me making ramen but i think he's probably asleep now so it's fine. i chose to make the smaller cup of cheap gross ramen instead of the really huge bowl of really nice stuff we have because i didn't feel like eating that whole thing. the smaller cup is actually surprisingly shitty. like you don't think instant noodles can be that bad but the noodles don't retain the flavor of the soup base at all only the chili sauce slightly so it's just lightly chili sauce flavored low quality mushy broken up noodles in a soup with probably concerning amounts of sodium made from a soup base that was just this brown goop that had water in it like how ketchup has water in it if you don't shake it. but i'm hungry so it's oka

i always adored dinty moore beef stew. it's super tasty & has a lot of sodium (POTS) and it was always a good comfort meal for me. i would normally eat the whole can in one sitting with 2 pieces of bread.
anyways i've been scared of it recently because i knew it had a lot of calories, especially with the bread. i had bought 2 more cans because we were out and i looked and it's only 250 for half the can???
like, the whole can is an unreasonably large amount of food. so half is a normal serving. and i just had it with the top of a hamburger bun to save the calories so it was only 305 for an insanely filling meal, that will last me majority of the day. (i'll probably have watermelon for lunch/snack later)
anyways i just wanted to share. it was my current fear food, but now it's back to being my little treat.

Other chemicals might not react the same way, so this solution isn’t a guarantee of a pesticide-free snack. It’s just a lot better than the alternatives.
Even after the long soak time, though, there were some pesticides that the baking soda couldn’t get to. Thiabendazole and phosmet, like many other substances, seep into the skin and flesh of the produce they’re applied to. Buying Organic Can Help, Though Not Much
If you’re hoping to avoid pesticides altogether, you’ll have to look beyond the organic aisle. Their analysis relied on unproven theories about how pesticides might interact with one another, and thus has skewed results. A rebuttal in the Journal of Toxicology found that EWG didn’t even attempt to estimate pesticide exposure in the first place, and that “substitution of organic forms of the twelve commodities for conventional forms does not result in any appreciable reduction of consumer risks.”
In other words: science does not back up the Dirty Dozen advice. But it’s your money; you can eat organic if you want to.
It’s Not Clear How Worried You Should be About Those Pesticides in the First Place
That same Journal of Toxicology analysis also found that the levels of pesticides detected in the so-called Dirty Dozen all fell below the acceptable limit set by the Environmental Protection Agency. And we’re not talking just slightly below the limit. The allowable dose for methamidophos on bell peppers was 49.5 times higher than the actual amount of pesticide, and that was the fruit with the highest exposure. Many of them came 1,000-or 30,000-fold under the legal limit. It is worth noting that legal limits aren’t infallible. Human exposures and their bodily impacts are difficult to study (and oft under-studied), and too often we don’t know exactly how a particular pesticide might affect us. If the EPA bases their acceptable limit on faulty science, it may overestimate how much exposure we can tolerate. And that’s assuming that the EPA is even doing their job properly in the first place.
If you’re still not sure—maybe you don’t trust the EPA, or you think pesticides haven’t been studied well enough (both perfectly fair points)—try going to your local farmer’s market. There, you can talk to the growers and discuss which pesticides they use. Of course, there seems to be an ever-growing trend of farmer’s markets filling up with folks simply reselling wholesale produce. So you might want to do an extra baking soda wash just to be sure.

“Sybil” mini review: Disproving Multiple Personality Disorder one irritating step at a time
**SPOILER ALERT. I WILL BE DESCRIBING PLOT POINTS IN THE BOOK, SO PLEASE DO NOT CONTINUE IF YOU DON’T WANT ANY SPOILERS**
Lord, where to begin with this. 
For a third of the book I waited extremely patiently for there to be anything more than foreshadowing. While i understand anticipation enhances reader engagement, at some point I was feeling compelled to skip ahead just to find out what the hell the writer was hinting towards. It took a uselessly long amount of time to get into the actual phenomenon itself or the lead-up to it, then once it was described it was horribly rushed. Timeline planning aside, there are a few big issues I take with this book, I’ll outline them below. 
Sybil is unreasonable and uncooperative to the point of reader exhaustion. If you’ve read the book, many of you will agree. I found it incredibly annoying how often Sybil was giving the same slumpy ‘woe is me’ answers to the psychoanalyst despite having moved her entire life to New York in order to get well. With as much obvious concern as she expressed about fearing that she would never be well, she put up so much resistance that I’m surprised the book concluded at all. The word ‘resistance’ infuriating her, I suppose as another form of denial, but she went for answers and assistance and turned it down until the very end (which i’ll also get in to). 
The psychoanalyst was in it for her own personal gain and enjoyment. One of the two biggest issues I take with this book is the blatant disregard for Sybil’s well-being during the DECADE of work the doctor did with her. While maintaining a form of friendship with the ‘selves’ and insisting that she was looking for the best interest of the ‘waking Sybil’ as she refers to her, she seemed to let a lot of things slide until the last possible moment, once a crisis was reached. In the book it’s even described with Sybil’s ‘selves’ causing mayhem-- smashing glass, running off for expensive trips (when she apparently has no money to even afford necessities and has to receive checks from her father), wandering the streets, talking to herself in public, failing out of school, failing to hold a job-- the doctor did nothing until Vicky, the most dominant ‘self’ magically intervened at the last moment by hastily taking over during a suicide attempt and calling the doctor to come to the rescue. The doctor should have had much more concern with allowing Sybil, who was obviously in no state of mind to be living independently. The behavior of this doctor, if real in any way, was a miscarriage of psychiatric assistance. 
Everything thing about the ‘selves’, for lack of a better word, is horseshit.  Cut and dry groupings of different ‘personalities’ who can apparently manifest themselves by choice as they saunter into the doctor’s office, some of them even interacting with her at the same time, leads me to this conclusion all on it’s own. While this takes a fairly decent amount of suspension of disbelief on the part of the reader, this option is entirely voided at the end of the book when the ‘selves’ can apparently be summoned at-will. This was what took the cake for me, and I spent the rest of the book pissed off over it. 
Speaking of the end of the book-- Wouldn’t you believe it? The answer was so simple the entire time! Sybil’s illness could be almost completely cured by hypnosis! I almost gave up at this point. By far the most irritating portion of the entire book, the fact that suddenly, over the course of two years, Sybil was able to be so successfully hypnotized and the ‘selves’ so perfectly called upon and managed that the doctor may as well have said “well shit, should have done this years ago”. There’s almost nothing more to say about that, I can’t believe what a lazy crock of shit the conclusion of her treatment was. 
Sybil rejects closeness while simultaneously lamenting about closeness being rejected. Someone is willing to offer her everything she wants but she cowers away after having successfully dated someone for 8 weeks because, once again, that ‘woe is me!’ attitude came busting through, apparently entirely perpetrated by the ‘waking Sybil’. It’s even mentioned that the ‘selves’ were annoyed that Sybil turned him away, even though the context behind her integration was so that the ‘selves’ would help her in moving forward. So apparently instead of a takeover, or any help whatsoever, they become an inner monologue of doubt. Go figure. Then Sybil whines about not wanting to be rejected and wanting to get married an have a family. Bitch if you don’t---
Sybil was clearly suffering from PTSD, schizophrenia, and DID. I get it, multiple personality disorder was the big hit in those days, and DID is the transition of that illness to make it less of a ‘there are multiple people living in me’ to ‘my personality dissociates and manifests in specific ways’. PTSD also wasn’t recognized until 1980 so I’ll give it a pass. However, Sybil should have been treated for schizophrenia, particularly considering that not only her mother, but a paternal relative (aunt i think) had been diagnosed. Hysteria came up briefly, I suppose this was the old-timey precursor to PTSD, but i digress. I feel that this was obvious from the moment Sodium Pentothol was introduced as medicinal therapy to Sybil, and why hypnosis had worked. I understand that the SEVERE trauma caused rifts and breaks in personality for her, but the issue I have is that this doctor humored this behavior by insisting that each dissociation was an entirely different person, whom she had individual relationships with. I’m sure some of this was fabricated, I can’t possibly begin to believe that it was all genuine (that wouldn’t sell books, boooooring). In the 21st century, with the enormous strides we’ve made in mental health, we have the gift of knowledge and hindsight that still was not recognized at the time of Sybil’s case, but it just really irks me that schizophrenia wasn’t even considered. 
Bonus: two things about her father that remained completely uncleared.  It was obvious that her father was abusive by proxy, purposefully neglectful for his own sake despite seeing his daughter constantly horribly injured and knowing his wife was a violent and unrelenting schizophrenic. That’s beside seeing the way Sybil reacted towards harmless objects, those are some pretty huge red flags. However, the most blatant example of this piece of shit father was him willingly participating in sexual intercourse in front of Sybil for nine years. His spiel to them about “i tried to be a good father” should have been met with, frankly, a fucking drop-kick, but he just went on his merry way, completely avoiding the realization that he’s a piece of shit who let his daughter suffer absolutely horrifying abuse at the hands of her own mother. The other, more minor, thing that was never cleared is that the doctor referenced 3 or 4 times to Sybil’s Oedipus complex towards her father, but it was never actually explained why she felt that way. I didn’t catch it, so if someone else did, please respond. 
In conclusion, 2/10 would not recommend unless you want to be angry.

As a teenager, I was one of those people who could eat whatever they wanted and still be skinny. I remember coming home from school and eating ice cream, chips, and popcorn — sometimes all in one day. I knew it wasn’t healthy, but I didn’t think it was hurting me since I remained skinny. As I started reading articles about eating healthy, I tried to avoid eating foods that were bad for my health. First, I stopped eating fast food. Then, I stopped drinking soda. Though I knew that I ate some unhealthy meals, it wasn’t until I graduated college that I learned just how awful my diet still was.
At that point, I got a job as a writer and two things happened. The first was that I started gaining weight, mostly from sitting down all day. My clothes started fitting me tighter and I started noticing a few stretch marks. The second was that as I wrote health articles, I learned more about what healthy eating really meant and discovered hidden dangers in my general diet, and I learned how bad sitting all day was. After that, I tried sticking to better health guidelines for my diet and exercise.
Recommended Daily Servings
The first thing I learned was the truth about recommended daily servings. Though I knew that I should limit my sugar and sodium intake, I never paid attention to what the limit should be or how much I was eating. All health intake guidelines will vary depending on each individual, but the recommended daily servings are still important to know to have a baseline knowledge of what you should be eating. Here is what I learned.
Regarding pre-packaged foods, the FDA recommends looking at the Percent Daily Value. Servings, with 5 percent daily value being low and 20 percent being high. Looking at this percentage is a good way to get an idea of how much of something your food has in it.
Another way to get a grasp on what you should be eating every day is to envision the portions you should be having every day. The daily recommendations are usually given in grams, which can be hard to grasp. Converting those from grams to teaspoons or daily spoons is a great way to process what your body needs everyday as well as help you know how much is too much.
Upper Limits
In researching the recommended daily servings, I was shocked to learn that the recommended daily value is not in fact the daily value that doctors recommend, but it is an upper limit. So, it is important to note that the daily value on the nutrition level does not necessarily reflect what you should be eating, but what you should not be surpassing. Too Sweet?
The biggest shock for me was learning about sugar. The daily value for sugar, as implemented by the American Heart Association, is about 25 grams, or 6 teaspoons of sugar. If that sounds like an unreasonably small amount to you, it’s because the average American consumes 82 grams or 19.5 teaspoons per day. That is more than triple this guideline, which is already an upper limit.

After awhile, this subsided and I just tried to limit sugar whenever possible, but still treat myself occasionally. I didn’t want to develop an unhealthy relationship with food and become obsessed with counting everything.
A few things I did to reduce my intake of sugar was trading all your sugary drinks — including juice — for water. It’s difficult to find any drinks that don’t have any sugar in them without making them yourself, and since you’ll definitely be getting enough sugar from your meals and snacks, it’s best not to add on to it with what you drink.
I also limited my intake of condiments, as sauces, dressings, and ketchup, as they all add up to frightening quantities of sugar. A sad reality that I had have to face is that I needed to cut out desserts from my daily diet — though I do indulge occasionally. You can even just cut back to weekends and special occasions; this can massively cut down the harmful sugar entering your body.
Also, you can try staying away from foods that contain a lot of sodium, such as lunch meat, hamburgers, savory snacks, and bread. You can also make a habit of not adding extra salt to your meals, instead finding other ways to flavor your food like adding herbs or pepper instead.

I measure my health by how I look and feel rather than by how much I weigh. Weight can be a scary thing to look at, especially when gaining muscle can make the pounds go up, even though you’re losing fat. However, I feel more confident after working out, and I feel healthier when I keep an eye on what I’m eating. I feel in control of my health. I even had a doctor check up and for the first time I wasn’t underweight, but at a healthy one, and being healthy is what counts.
