I was tagged by beloved friendo @hexcore-juggler to find the words take, fill, green, bleed in my WIPs, thank you so much!!

My only WIP doc at the moment is the one where I’m writing all of my @patrochillesweek fics, so you’re getting all Patrochilles today! So, without much context, here we go:

take:

“The races are for the princes only, and the sons of the members of the court,” Peleus said, not unkindly. “Patroclus will have to stay back this time.” 

“Patroclus is my therapon.” Achilles’ voice was sharp, unbending in the quiet. “He has every right to take part.”

fill:

Phthia’s large hall is packed tonight. Patroclus doesn’t think he’s ever seen it this full. There are jugglers and dancers and a band merrily playing, and the cacophony of laughter and animated conversations reach him in a wall of sound. A servant fills his cup to the brim. He drinks. 

green:

“His glade?” Patroclus echoes, incredulous. He cannot imagine it. A green place of lush trees and flowers and birds twittering, hidden in thick foliage. Phthia is the land of hail and snow, and this is what they all know, but Pelion sounds like spring. Achilles sounds like he belongs there. The Flame of the North, they call him, for his fire-gold hair; once he goes, Patroclus thinks, all things swift and beautiful and bright will be gone with him.

bleed:

“This scar, here. Where did you get it?”

I had fallen from a tree, in the courtyard of the palace of Opus when I was six years old, I told him. I had escaped my tutor and ran away to play, and when I’d been found, he’d given me a sound thrashing and a lecture on being disobedient. Thankfully, he had spared me from telling my father about it, but as further punishment he had denied my seeking the physician to tend to the wound. It had taken me a while to stem the bleeding; it had healed soon after, but left a deep mark behind. My tutor always used to tap it with his stick when I was being restless, to remind me of the cost of insubordination. 

There was a tiny crease between Achilles’ drawn brows as he listened; I had to resist the urge to brush my thumb over it, to smooth it out. 

“Your tutor was a fool,” he declared with finality after I had finished my story.

Going to pull both words from my unnamed Ajax fic.

Here, when Ajax first meets his cousin:

“How do you train a toddler?” he asks, staring at the golden-haired boy sitting on the centaur’s back. For how little he is, he sits with ease, blinking big, green eyes down at Ajax, and Chiron doesn’t seem worried he will let go and fall.

“I wager he’ll hold a spear better than any other toddler in history.”

And here, at Troy:

“You used to get red in the face when girls threw themselves at you.”

“I also used to cry when you ate the last apple slice at supper.”

“Or the second to last one,” Ajax mutters.

“Anyway, these aren’t girls, they’re soldiers, and if you think your men aren’t wondering what it would be like to have a tumble with you, you’re wrong.” Achilles flashes his bright eyes at him. “I could tell you five of them right now, if you’re interested.”

I was tagged by @johaeryslavellan and I think @hanarinhightown (like a million years ago).

Favorite colour: It shifts around but jewel tones generally. Green or purple more often than not.

Favorite food: Korean dumpling soup. Forgive my attempted spelling here--dukk mandu guk. Honestly dumplings of all kind make me happy, but that soup has become my comfort food.

Song stuck in your head: Saint Simon by the Shins. This song used to be stuck in my head all. the. time. Haven’t thought about it years. La da dum dum.

Last thing you googled: “what do they call high school in England.” I learned that the term “high school” came from Scotland originally, which is just... very random. Like no, high school did not make its way south to England, where they call it ‘secondary school,’ something that confused my American brain because we split school into three sections, instead it crossed the ocean and became the dominant term in the US. As an American Scot (aka not really a Scot at all), uhh, yay? I guess?

Time: 8:55am

Dream Trip: Morocco. Turkey. Mongolia. I have a lot of dreams. Honestly I’d find something to be excited about for pretty much anywhere in the world.

Last book you read: I just finished “Where the Crawdads Sing,” which was terrible. Hilarious once you learn the author is an ecofascist accessory to murder, though.

Last book you enjoyed reading: I’m currently reading Lavinia by Ursula Le Guin and I’m loving it. (Note: now my most recently googled thing is how to spell her name.)

Last book you hated reading: I feel like I’ve become a hater in my old age. I tried to read “The Silence of the Girls” but it was really bad. I also didn’t enjoy “The Buried Giant” and I thought I was going to =/ 

Favourite thing to cook/bake: Onion flatbread. It’s delicious. It’s a little fancy. It makes me happy.

Favourite craft to do in your spare time: Is writing a craft? is pruning plants a craft?

Most niche dislike: Man, I so easily fall into being a hater. Here, recently I’ve gotten really into the houseplant reddit, and I can say I just don’t get the obsession with variegated monstera plants. Monstera are fun because they grow huge and provide greenery. The thai constellations and albo grow slowly, don’t get as big, and are just kinda ugly. I don’t get it. 

Opinion on circuses now and in history: I was in a circus back in college (thus the username, lol). As long as there aren’t animals involved, circuses are fun, creative, impressive, entertaining... Who doesn’t want to see the limits of human flexibility? A lot of circus arts also don’t necessarily have competitions attached to them like other sports do, which I think is great for creativity, cooperation, and community.

Do you have a sense of direction and if not what is the worst way you ever got lost: I do have a pretty good sense of direction. I’ve traveled solo a lot. The most lost I ever was probably was in Italy, where people were super unfriendly and signage was nil. But the most upset I got while traveling wasn’t because I was lost, but rather because my train was late. I was in a small city in China, and my train didn’t get in until around midnight. Everything shuts down in small cities around 10pm, and when I got to my hostel, they had locked the door. They had a sign out to call them, but nobody answered. I called repeatedly and then just broke down crying, like, ugly sobbing, certain I wasn’t going to have anywhere to sleep that night. I ended up sitting on the steps of a church because there was a streetlight overhead (and churches were like... not a common thing there, it was so weird) and pulling out my book, hoping to just chill until dawn. LUCKILY a local took pity on me and did some sort of magic to make the hostel people open up the door. They weren’t even asleep? They just weren’t answering their phone. So around 1am I got a bed.

Marvel Heroes by @sersi - Absolutely, without a doubt, one of my favourite edits I’ve seen this year. The detail and the composition blew my mind! The quote tops it off by pulling at my heartstrings. Other favourites by Elysia are this and this Captain America edits. 

The Mandalorian by @usergeralt -  The colours? The blending? The typography? It’s just so beautiful. I am such a sucker for gentle colour gradients and that second gif just speaks to me. All of Annie’s Mando Week sets are really lovely!

The Witcher by @katherineebishop - This edit is burned into my memory. It’s so vibrant and elegant and the composition is so beautiful! Doing this meme I just noticed Laura has a tag called spacegifs and wow, I’m in love with her sets all over again!

The Expanse by @cara-gee - The Expanse Appreciation Week was a super fun event, particularly because it’s a smaller fandom than what I’m used to and the quality of sets was top notch. This is hands down my favourite set from that event. Treena makes such beautiful rainbow sets like these and those, I’m in love.

Steve Rogers by @userachilles - Everything Emma has made is beautiful and this is one of my many favourites!! I am absolutely weak for my captain and that colour combination and the blending omfg??? Just brilliant. Emma I know you’re up to your armpits in Hades but I will still love your beautiful Steve gifs. 

The Falcon Captain America and the Winter Soldier by @jackarthurdavenport - This is just SO well done? The blending is perfect and the red and blue contrasted with the monochrome is so lovely!! Also Elle I miss you 💕

Black Panther by @sith-maul - do I need to explain!? Just incredible. The vibrancy of that purple and the blending and typography is all god tier editing. I love all of Nik’s work but this is a strong fave.

The Mandalorian picspam - this is probably my most prized edit from that year! To be completely honest it was the result of an attempt of making some fancy gif edit but I got frustrated and realised I could make a picspam AND include so many more screenshots of my favourite parts of the series. 

Steve Rogers - this set was one of those ‘well I have this vague idea but let’s see what happens’. The magic of the second gif happened by accident, I duplicated a layer into the wrong file and ended up with something really cool and I’m so proud of. I’d redo the last gif tho sldkfjsdf let’s ignore that one

Pedro Pascal birthday set - I LOVE THIS WORK. I am so proud of it. It felt so simple at first but of course I naturally gravitate towards colourful gifs, and I couldn’t figure out a red colour. That Triple Frontier gif really went off, I’m so proud and honestly have no idea how I managed to achieve that.

Narcos Javier Pena - I’m so glad Astrid suggested this playlist for inspo because everything just worked seamlessly. I can’t think of a better song that speaks to Javier’s character. I really played with fade-ins and blending to suit the mood for each gif.

TFATWS John Walker DIY tutorial - lmao this was SO FUN to make. Don’t ask me to do it again though because I have no idea lol I was so high on the serotonin of the idea of this and it’s my most reblogged gifset this year 

The Mandalorian x tumblr banned tags part 1 and part 2 - lmao I just love how Tumblr users respond to these situations. I also love these sets from other fandoms!

Simu Liu on Shang Chi - I made this edit because these sentences spoke to me so strongly, and I read so much feedback in tags and comments about people who feel the same way! I love Simu for understanding the weight of his role and how much his story means to the Asian community. Not much in terms of editing, but this edit means a lot.

2 creations that stretched you as a creator: style, colouring, blending, text, etc. include the one that should have got more notes.

Natasha Romanoff - yeah I tried really hard on this and it didn’t go off the way I hoped. I had done a similar colour edit for Steve which did quite well. I worked 10x harder for Natasha’s and I really wish it picked up more notes :(

Marcus Moreno - the colouring is definitely something I haven’t dared to do before - it’s almost fluorescent. Kinda wanna redo it.

Chris Evans birthday edit - unfortunately this was a day late but I still like how I pulled this off. Navy is a colour that looks so good on him!!

If Beale St Could Talk - so colouring this broke me lol I’m still not 100% happy with it, but I did the best I could. Also, this movie broke me into a million pieces.

sdfsjdlfsjdf OKAY WELL I really liked the cyberpunk aesthetic of Madripoor in TFATWS and I tried to do some cool colouring thing but it sucked and everyone else had much + much + much + much prettier edits than me so I gave up lol
