Deeply amused by the item descriptions for VARGRAM THE RAGING WOLF. It’s literally “on all levels except physical I am a wolf.”
you get rescued by a chivalrous and heroic knight/wizard adventuring duo. also the knight is hot (wizard kinda funny looking). they’re very competent but the knight just started happily infodumping about his plans to BECOME A WOLF.
wizard: “bro I keep telling you, it doesn’t work that way”
knight: “well it’s not going to work if I stop trying, now is it?”

You know, I won’t argue that the Raging Wolf set isn’t cool or anything, because that shit kicks ass... but it is kinda sullied for me seeing as it’s the armor of some other guy within the setting. It wouldn’t even bother me that much if it was like the Elite Knight set from Dark Souls, worn by Oscar and Ricard both, because at the very least that’s just a commonly-used armor in their world... but the Raging Wolf set is just completely unique to Vargram!!! It annoys me!!!
So this got me thinking... is there an armor set that would fit better as THE default Tarnished look so they aren’t taking the drip away from some other guy? Well, there actually is! Once you get to the Roundtable Hold, you can purchase this set from the Twin Maiden Husk:

It looks really good I think, I especially love this color of blue. But style alone isn’t why I’d pick this one as the “default Tarnished set™”, but some in-game art seems to suggest as much too. Remember the little pop-ups we find at the start of the game and inside the Cave of Knowledge? They all depict the player character as wearing this exact armor right here!

There’s many more of these types of images (excuse the low quality, there aren’t better quality ones on the Internet :\ ) and unless it’s specifically about stuff like sorcery, this guy is the go-to for depicting the player. So, as cool as the Raging Wolf armor is, I vote for this being the default Tarnished look.

If asked, Brom could give you a measure of several of the old guard that once gathered in the Roundtable Hold. For in the days of chaos and disarray following that war which ended all wars, the mettle of men regardless of standing or origin was thoroughly tested.
Vargram truly embodied the very beast he sought to emulate, the moniker of Raging Wolf earned with no small shedding of blood. In the months following the Bloom of Aeonia, when furious clouds of rot blotted out the sun above Caelid and the first aberrations were born from its hideous heart, they fought ferociously to keep such horrors from spilling into Limgrave... and having witnessed the sheer hunger of the black flames that leapt from every swing of that pronged greatsword, Brom would quietly admit that there were powers to rival even the fell god. There is no doubt the Wolf could reach the capital with his strength and skill, but the silence between their having spoken can be numbered in the years, and even Brom isn't immune to the worry that's begun to circle his thoughts...
Tragoth, or rather the Bullgoat, could never be defined by his mighty strength alone. Such was the camaraderie, the fulfillment and purpose that was ever draped about his shoulders as a cloak fit for a king. Whether filling the halls of their hold with merriment and unfailing encouragment to the crestfallen or in offering a swing of that mighty hammer in defense of those otherwise without recourse, the Bullgoat ever locked horns with odds great or small and charged headlong until they gave way. Hope was and still is the greatest boon Tragoth bestowed upon his brethren tarnished, and even now Brom will occasionally scale the cliff faces bordering Liurnia and the Altus Plateu for his advice and companionship.
Istvan too would never shy from an opportunity to assist his fellow tarnished, though his demeanor was far more restrained than his fellow Tragoth. Calm and collected, with a great many years of commanding men-at-arms and shaping up the unaware into proper fighting shape even before his entry to the Roundtable, Istvan served as a kind if at times stern stone upon which many lost tarnished could fasten themselves upon. Called the Old Knight not for the sake of mockery but respect and admiration, it was Istvan who inspired Brom to create a meaningful place for their kind that wasn't so departed from the world as the hold. In battle few could hope to match him, his skill with a dismounting sword surpassing even Brom's only matched by a craftiness gifted with age, and even now Brom hears talk of his helping hand to those new tarnished all through Limgrave.
