Hi!
Uh, random question out of nowhere 😅
Does your tumblr url happen to be inspired by the Van der Graaf Generator song with the (almost) same title?
Anyway, I loved your Mass Effect Harbinger drawing! 💙💙💙
Have a great weekend ^_^
1/ Thank you! Hope you also have a great weekend!
2/ Yes, it is a VdGG reference and you're the first person to ask about it! I have long dreamt of this day xD The band, and especially this song, are very special to me.
youtube
who doesn't love a 13-minute song about (maybe) going so fast you become incorporeal, am I right?

Richard Dawson: Another One for the ‘Run’
I’ve been spending the last week or so listening to Richard Dawson’s latest, Henki, a joint project with the Finnish ‘psych-rockers’ Circle, who I have to say that I haven’t come across before. Circle have apparently made around 40 albums, which makes them much longer in the discological tooth than Newcastle’s finest (6 solo albums to his credit). However, Dawson is putting’ em out every two years or so, and Henki is the fourth of a magnificent ‘run’ of releases, starting in 2014 with Nothing Important, and gaining pace with Peasant (2017) and 2020 (2019). He is now definitely firmly in my ‘persons of interest’ list of musicians.
I read recently that the Finns are supposed to be the ‘happiest’ society on earth, so it’s interesting to see how this six-piece might leaven this sometimes somewhat gloomy and downbeat Geordie composer/guitarist/singer. First thing ‘out’ is Dawson’s singularly distinctive fractured nylon string guitar solos, in favour of a melding in with the greater group sound (a shame, say I, but appropriate in this context). Most of the tracks are also fairly long (Nothing Important memorably featured two epics), and the overall impression is of a return to the sound of the 70s - some metal, some hard rock, some ‘prog’, some ‘folk horror’ of the Electric Eden variety, with elements of King Crimson, early Genesis, VDGG and even Trees/Forest for good measure. (To add an 80s touch, the video for ‘Lily’ features a depressed-looking Dawson being taken to the baize cleaners by none other than snooker immortal, Steve Davis.) The track that seems to have received the most critical attention is Silpium, whose first and third movements display a motorik sound worthy of Neu!, while the second, middle section remined this writer of King Crimson’s controversial free improvisation ‘Moonchild’ on Court of the Crimson King, at least in feel, if not in actual texture. The Guardian’s  Phil Mongredian, however, thought he detected Rush in the DNA of this 11 minute piece,
To continue the prog allusions, this could, at a push, be described as a ‘concept album’.  “A sprawling epic, written from the perspective of a seed and a lament for an ancient tree” opined The Guardian, reminding me what stick Stevie Wonder got for The Secret Like of Plants back in the day, as did The Beach Boys for ‘‘Day in the Life of a Tree’ on Surf’s Up!  (And that was back in the real 1970s.) There’s lots of “guess the references/influences” fun to be had with this album, and it is one more notch in the Frame-ian rock tree of Dawson’s increasingly impressive and varied discography. He is now, at the age of 40, firmly ensconced as one of the UK’s most impressive and challenging musical treasures

リバースユニバース / Reverse Universe (English Lyrics)
Tumblr media
“I’m taking a break from the invasion for once, so today I’m congratulating Miku-san.”
Song Title: リバースユニバース / Reverse Universe Music: ナユタン星人 / Nayutan Seijin Vocals: Hatsune Miku
NND Link: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm31843582 Original Lyrics (Official): http://piapro.jp/t/VDgg
Comments: This is another song made for the Hatsune Miku 10th anniversary album, Re:start! It’s a song constructed out of references to other Vocaloid songs. See if you can spot them all (or if not, you can look at the Japanese comments on NND).
The sound of "nice to meet you" rings out OneCup's heart is satisfied It seems like someone's in love, ra ta ta A sort of "I want to sing" dance, a sort of "I'd like to do that" days
I say to you, "You are my lovely" To the point of making sweet chocolate melt, I'm in over-thinking rampage mode, So it's like I can fly to even the stars
Spinal fluid, delusion; it's good if everyone just acts freely To the deep sea, to the depths, even if left behind I want to hear your voice; as a farewell, This is the story of the front lines... Or so it seems
Step by step, the far-off becomes the future, Reverse, reverse, universe Naturally, it will be over-turned; the world with you and everything in it To make it to the 10th anniversary, that's clearly the best The birth of "lovers," was just you! This message, please receive it through the meteor shower;
It's from the time the fire in my chest ignited
Rolling towards Wonderland; if you notice, the sky is orange Even though it has no form, it's important; but searching for it, I'm disoriented My head and tail are turned around; up until now there's been no return Yeah, that love is blindness, but I'm staring at it Thousands and ten thousands, all being linked together, Don't just do that No, let's just do that! Since an infinite amount of love is raining down on the planet That sort of "no" from a person obsessed with the end of times is... Ah, yes.
Step by step, the far-off becomes the future, Reverse, reverse, universe See, now, the you that wrote so freely... tell me about your world!
But that's right, "bye bye" is still far off in the future Reverse, reverse, universe Naturally, it will be overturned; but don't forget it, okay? This planet has already done it 10 times, for reals Make as many unfinished verses as you like! Let the next intense voice ring out, please
From the time the fire in my chest ignited, From the time my heart was confused, From the time I was able to meet you, This universe was born
