The Elton Family Album: Volume X
Tumblr media
It's wedding day for Merybury's wannabe power couple - Olivia and Elliot - and Olivia's parents are hosting the event at the family home.
Tumblr media
The guests are all assembled for the big day. Although Elliot's older brother Walter seems to have come straight from work - I guess Adventuring doesn't keep regular business hours.
Tumblr media
It's a beautiful afternoon, so let's get the ceremony underway!
Tumblr media
But it looks like Elliot isn't really feeling it...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
REALLY not feeling it!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh my goodness! (I have never seen this before in my game, ever, and I thought it was absolutely priceless.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Poor Olivia! Before the pink petals have had a chance to fall, Elliot has left her for dust!
Tumblr media
That certainly wasn't the spectacle that the guests were expecting to witness!
Tumblr media
Ellen is taking her daughter's public humiliation particularly hard.
Tumblr media
And even though Elliot eventually slunk back to the 'party' after several hours of being AWOL, Olivia is venting her fury at his brother Walter, for some reason! Elliot's sister Sophia is quite sanguine - with her bag of snacks - but mother-of-the-not-quite-groom Anne is also struggling to cope with the turn of events. Can the golden couple ever recover from this? Given the depth of Olivia's rage, I have my doubts.

Sir Walter Elliot, man who would use moisturizer and have a 10 step skin care routine. You would have loved the anti wrinkles straw.

jane didnt write "there could have never been two hearts so open, no tastes so similar, no feelings so in unison, no countenances so beloved. now they were as strangers; nay, worse than strangers, for they could never become acquainted. it was a perpetual estrangement" for this:

Wentworth is probably sleeping in Anne’s bedroom
Okay, so we know that it's fine for the eldest daughter to take her mother's room after the mother dies (Tilney says this in NA), so the rooms right now are:
Sir Walter - master bedroom
Elizabeth - mistress bedroom
Anne - next best bedroom (Sir Walter is all about apparences, so he'll put Anne in the right room even if he doesn't care much about her)
Then the Crofts move in and have Wentworth as a guest:
Admiral Croft - master bedroom (sans mirrors)
Mrs. Croft - mistress bedroom
And the next best bedroom that goes to your beloved brother is... Wentworth is totally in Anne's bedroom.
I cannot stop thinking about how like hilarious but also angsty this whole thing is. Do you think he saw W&A carved into the bedpost or something?
(even if the very in love Admiral and Mrs. Croft sleep together, they probably maintain separate rooms because of the servants)

I've seen a lot of Pride and Prejudice Zutara takes, and read this excellent inspired-by-Emma Zutara story, so now i'm thinking about a Zutara Persuasion AU.

Psst! Hey!! You like Jane Austen's novels??
You hate the 2022 adaptation of Persuasion?
You wanna see a good adaptation instead???
Then check out the Granada miniseries Persuasion from 1971!! You can find it on the YouTube!! Or get it on DVD (that version may be shortened/cut differently though)!!
It starts out a bit slow, and has a more 'staged' feel than a 'film' feel, but it's true to the story, the actors are excellent, the costumes are beautiful, and Anne never paints jam on her face like a fucking ninny--!!!
Ahem. It's just... it's a good adaptation. My fav one, in fact. Might be worth a watch?? Good palate cleanser, at any rate 😅

The Bingley Family Album: Volume XV
We're catching up with another member of the Bingley clan today - Benjamin, over in Sanditon, and his fiancé Walter.
Tumblr media
Top of the list after getting his own place, was to adopt a dog from the animal shelter. Enter Moody! He reminds Benjamin a lot of his childhood pal Bella.
~ Libra
~ Doofus / Lazy / Friendly / Pigpen
Tumblr media
He proves to be great company while Benjamin is alone at home during the day.
Tumblr media
And the pair soon form a close bond. (He also sports some rather splendid facial hair, just like his master.)
Tumblr media
He quickly becomes a favourite with Dog Person Walter too. His family never had any pets while he was growing up, but he's thoroughly enjoying having Moody around now.
Tumblr media
Benjamin was also keen to set up his own dedicated art studio at home, to pursue his dream of perfecting a masterpiece.
Tumblr media
He finds inspiration everywhere he looks.
Tumblr media
Well, I guess his ambition to make his mark on the art world has to start somewhere!
Tumblr media
Robert doesn't know about art, but he knows what he likes, and that includes his ex's oeuvre.
Tumblr media
Walter meanwhile is still risking life and limb on a daily basis as an Adventurer. He's certainly well equipped for tackling the considerable risk posed by taking a shower.
Tumblr media
Also on the agenda is hosting a house-warming party. Unfortunately, it turns into an occasion for Benjamin's past conquests to come back to haunt him - including his flings with Townie Chandler Platz (undocumented), Julia,...
Tumblr media
...Robert and Anna.
Tumblr media
While Walter was happy to be just one of many before their engagement, he now expects a little more commitment from Benjamin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now that they've reached a firm understanding as to the footing of their relationship, everything is soon smoothed over between them.
Tumblr media
And - much to the surprise of both - it's hello, impending parenthood! But will Walter stay the course this time, or will he cut and run, just as he did in the past with Cassandra? (I've given up trying to rationalise same-sex pregnancy in my game - Sims aren't humans, they don't have the same biology as us, so it just happens, because I want it to! 😁)

I'm haunted by the beautiful potential in an Edwardian-era Persuasion.
A setting just after WWI, another time of major social upheaval--blurring class barriers, new ideas about gender roles, further crumbling of the aristocracy
Sir Walter blindly clings to the old order, barely thinking about the war except to lament the impossibility of getting good servants these days
Elizabeth Elliot styles herself as a bit of a women's rights activist, claiming this is the reason she remains unmarried
Anne would have served as a nurse if her father had allowed it, but of course he couldn't permit an Elliot of the Elliots to undertake such ugly work, so she stayed at home quietly undertaking the usual home-front charitable work
This war deepens the story's melancholy. There's not the same sense of the men returning home as conquering heroes. The world is changing, but is it worth what we've lost? Can we have hope for the future when all our optimistic dreams led to such slaughter?
The best way to retain some of Wentworth's glamour is to make him a flyboy. However, given their short life expectancies, I'm not sure how realistic it is to have him and several buddies survive the war.
A "band of brothers" in the trenches is also a decent analogue for their relationship
Harville's injury meant he was invalided home fairly early. Benwick's probably a wartime poet suffering from shell shock that only got worse after his fiance died in the influenza epidemic.
Louisa and Henrietta are of a slightly younger generation that hasn't been quite as scarred by the war. Their relative innocence makes them refreshing to a war-weary returning soldier
It's possible Wentworth is so shaken by Louisa's accident (and thus needs Anne to take charge) because it sparks some kind of PTSD flashback. (Though that may not be the best direction to take the character).
There's just so much potential to explore the layers--old wounds and new possibilities, finding ways to heal and grow and rebuild after pain and loss

Nearly everyone involved with Netflix's Persuasion should be slapped in the face with a glove. They have insulted us with drivel on screen, and I, for one, demand satisfaction.

Persuasion, detective AU
Your mind. My own currently addled brain is not equal to this, but a nebulous outline.
Walter Elliot, CEO of Kellynch Holdings, actually is stupid enough to do crimes without realizing it, and vain enough to presume that if he's doing it, it must be a Smart Business Decision and therefore not a crime, QED. This will become a problem, especially when he falls in with the more intentionally criminous Elliot and Clay Associates.
Admiral Croft is the grizzled detective™ pursuing the case.
Frederick Wentworth is the last person anyone (except Anne and, loyally, Sophy) expected to get a fancy law degree after getting out of the army, much less to take on the kind of work required to bring down white-collar criminals. He might love his job a little too much. Sophy occasionally mentions to him that the concept of a work-life balance has filtered into some corners of the legal profession, and even into some corners of the police.
Frederick has always presumed--allowed himself to presume--that Anne Elliot went to her conservatory, went to grad school, and vanished into the comparatively rarified* world of classical music. The last thing he expects is to find Anne teaching Beethoven to 9-year-olds and keeping the house and the accounts for her feckless family. He does not (repeat not) examine his feelings about needing to make sure that she is exonerated from any suspicion of complicity in wrong-doing.
Elizabeth runs a YouTube channel from which she attempts to influence. Mary is part of the essential oils racket. Frederick may or may not wonder if the entire damn family (Anne excepted) is stupid or criminal or both. But after telling Anne he's ready to submit his filings (if that is what I mean), he leaves a handwritten letter under the glass fruit bowl in the kitchen that only she uses.
*yes I know that tickets are exponentially cheaper than arena concerts or sportsball but it's about the cultural perception which I would argue still is kind of socially rarified. Don't yell at me, I routinely lower the average age of classical music audiences.
