📚 STUFF I READ 📚

🙂 Under Alien Skies: A Sightseer's Guide to the Universe (Phil Plait, author & narrator) - The Bad Astronomer paints pictures of what the sky would look like standing on the surface of other planets, asteroids, etc.

😊 Initiation (Sex Wizards #1) (Alethea Faust) - erotic BDSM fantasy - actually a bit more plot & worldbuilding than I was expecting tbh, entertaining

😞 Miss Aldridge Regrets (Canary Club Mystery #1) (Louise Hare, author; Georgina Campbell, narrator) - This isn't a mystery the MC investigates, it's a mystery that happens TO her. She was tediously passive, seeming really rather naïve & foolish (esp given her age and life experience) and entirely in denial about pretty much everything that happens to her (since she's being actively framed for murder). However, the very short interval chapters from the killer's perspective did hook my interest and left me genuinely curious about the mystery. At about 44% I jumped to the end to see how the mystery resolved. I'm counting it as read since I did read over 50% of it.

😍 A Most Agreeable Murder (Julia Seales, author; Fiona Hampton, narrator) - comical pastiche/parody mashup of: Jane Austen (specifically), regency-set/gothic novels (in general) & Agatha Christie/country house mysteries - funny & entertaining, deftly done. Very Nightmare Abbey vibes in the absolute best way. I enjoyed all the caricature characters but 'overlooked tedious (but secretly a [redacted]) sister' Mary was my fave, absolute gothic queen

Hope you're feeling a bit better, my dear! Here's another soft thought for you and *shocker* it's NOT for your werewolf AU. 😆 It's for your regency AU which I am quickly falling in love with!

So Veronica has just given birth to their first child and she thinks Jacob is going to be upset because it's a daughter and not a son, or maybe she overhears someone say that Jacob must be upset that his first born isn't a boy. When Jacob finds out about her worries he tells her something like "I don't care if we never have any sons. All I care about is that my children are happy, healthy, and that you're their mother." 🥰

NOT the werewolf au??? who ARE you Indy 😂 but I'm glad someone else is loving the regency au cause i am.....i freaking love it dude. so much. it's all vibes no plot and I'm so here for it. and THIS ASK PARTICULARLY IS EVERYTHING

The house had been filled with the sounds of Veronica's screams for hours. The doctor and midwives wouldn't allow Jacob into the room. It twisted him up inside to hear his wife's agony and not be able to comfort her in some way. He had managed to sneak in a few times, but the midwives would only allow him a few minutes before pushing him out again. Messengers had been sent to the neighbors and local friends to come and welcome the babe into the world, and to keep Jacob distracted from the what-ifs that could be taking place in their bed-chamber.

A particularly loud wail echoed through the halls that made everyone gathered in the drawing room take pause. Jacob looked up from where he sat tensely on the couch, instantly rising to his feet when the silence continued.

And then the high-pitched cries of a baby filled the air. It was as if their entire party released a breath unintentionally held. Jacob most of all, as he sunk back onto the couch - a relieved laugh slipping past his lips as he listened to the first cries of his child. Javy patted him on the back in congratulations.

A few minutes later, a butler walked into the drawing room and everyone fell silent once more. Jacob jumped back to his feet. Waiting on bated breath for whatever news the butler might carry.

"It's a girl," the butler announced and Jacob couldn't hold back from grinning ear to ear.

Their party cheered at the news, though maybe not as jubilantly as one might have hoped. As Jacob felt on the inside.

But his smile fell when Javy patted him on the back again and said, "Better luck next time, old chap."

Jacob wanted to ask what he meant. But in that moment, he just wanted to see her. Both of them. His girls. He laughed again at the thought.

"A-And what of Veronica?" Jacob asked the butler.

"She is well, sir."

"Can I see them now?"

"Yes, sir."

Jacob bid his guests farewell in a rush and followed the butler out of the drawing room and up the stairs to the bed-chambers he and Veronica shared. The baby had gone quiet. Jacob's heart thundered inside his chest as the butler opened the door for him.

When he walked inside, the doctor was just finishing packing up his things. He nodded to Jacob as he took his leave. But he barely took notice of him.

For laying in the middle of the bed, propped against the pillows, was Veronica. Her face was still red, sweat clung to her forehead, making the hairs at her temples stick to her skin. She looked tired but happy. And cradled in her arms was a bundle of blankets, the tiniest of babes barely visible. Her face was red too, and he could see she was born with a tuft of hair blonde just like his own.

"Would you like to meet her?" Veronica asked, voice hoarse and quiet.

He nodded as he approached the bed, green eyes locked on the wriggling baby. He sat down on the bed beside her, one foot still planted on the floor and the other tucked onto the bed. He took the little bundle from her slowly, making sure to support the head and bum as he tucked his daughter into the crook of his arm. She was beautiful and so small and he never wanted to let her go.

"I'm sorry it's not a son - an heir," she whispered, hands twisted into the sheets.

Jacob looked up from where he was running the back of his finger over the plush cheek of their baby with a furrowed brow.

"Dear heart..." He reached out his free hand to cup his wife's cheek. "I would be more than content if we never had any sons at all. All I care about is that my children are happy and healthy and that you're their mother. I could not ask for anything more."

Veronica leaned into his touch, a few tears slipped from her eyes. Jacob gave her one last smile of reassurance before he looked back down to their daughter. His hand came back down to push back the blanket a bit more. See the blonde hairs on her head and marvel at how her entire body fit in one arm.

"She really is beautiful," he said, then he looked up at Veronica. "What shall we call her?"

"I like Honora. Nora for short."

"I love it. Honora it is." He smiled up at his wife, tears rimming his eyes as he said, "I love you."

"I love you too, Mr. Seresin."

Wips:

1) I have two MTH fics, a werewolf!Bucky + veterinarian!Tony winteriron fic, and the Band AU fic I posted about a while ago. Both will be around 30-40k. Slow going, but making progress! The MTH creator party helped a lot so I expect to get a ton done at the next one too.

2) I have a collab with @thirstinart that’s about halfway done. It’s a 1920s, speakeasy, jazz and fedoras kinda thingy and it’s going to have amazing art in it!!

3) I have a regency romance thingy that’s over halfway done, but giving me some trouble now. Ugh, group scenes. Why.

4) I have a collab with @elwenyere that’s an academic/prof!Tony thingy with a twist. Very excited for that one! It’s still in its early stages.

5) I still have my Pacific Rim AU, but it hasn’t progressed much. Also on the middle burner is an Ults fic and The Mechanic.

I’m going through a transitional phase at work, and by summer, my work life will be very different. I expect it’ll allow for more writing, in the end, but we’ll have to see! It’s using my brain in new ways, so there’s an adjustment period for sure.

I’m also VERY distracted right now, because the lovely woman who rescued Frisk when she was a baby and raised her for two years has a half-brother of Frisk’s that she would love for us to adopt and that we would love to adopt. He was adopted out at the same time she took Frisk in, but they didn’t care for him well and she took him back. He’s the same age, but half as big, adorable, same face but floppy ears instead of pointed. I described his body type as “tsum tsum” to MamaFerret who doesn’t actually know what tsums are, but you guys do. I’m waiting to hear on logistics because transport is HARD right now, but if we have to wait, we have to wait, and we will wait for him as long as it takes. It’s hard to focus on anything else rn, though, because I’m waiting to hear what kind of timeline it’s going to be, but I’m just like GIVE ME MY SONNNN!!!!

Happy Birthday, Ronnie Bradshaw! | March 3rd, 1987 |

And to celebrate, here are some headcanons about how Ronnie celebrates her birthday in the Big Four AUs (regular, werewolf, regency, and nfl)

Regular AU

On this particular birthday, her and Jake have been living in DC for five months

And she’s twelve weeks pregnant

Just getting out of that first trimester and starting to feel like a normal human person after constantly throwing up and feeling fatigued nearly all hours of the day

Usually, Ronnie doesn’t like to make a big deal out of her birthday. Maybe a group dinner at her friend’s urging. But nothing huge.

But Jake Seresin is nothing if not his mother’s son (he even gets her help in planning the whole thing)

The man goes all out

He rents out their favorite restaurant, a pub style place with fish tacos that never fail to make Ronnie drool.

Calls all her friends from California and asks them to fly out if they can, and most of them do (including one Penny Benjamin).

Decks out the pub in brightly colored beach themed decorations (some of which he had to make himself and hide from her in the storage shed in their backyard).

The man even buys SAND and fills up a kiddie pool with it for her to sink her toes in.

And all of it is a huge surprise

He just knows how much she misses California and her friends, and he sees this as one way to thank her for leaving all of that behind for HIM (which still blows his mind and makes him feel guilty in some ways)

When her birthday finally came and the night of the party arrived, Jake made her put on the tight, brightly colored sundress that really showed off her growing bump.

Then he drove them over to the pub, and she was none the wiser.

That is until he put a sparkling sash over her shoulder that had “BIRTHDAY GIRL” splashed across the front. That was about when she narrowed her eyes at him, wondering what exactly he was up to.

When they walked in everyone yelled surprise and Ronnie cried. Reuniting with all her friends in tear filled embraces.

She spent the night eating fish tacos in a beach chair with her feet in the sand, sipping on non-acoholic cocktails, surrounded by people she loved, and wondering what she did to deserve jake seresin.

Werewolf AU

If loud and life of the party original recipe ronnie doesn’t like making a big deal out of her birthday, werewolf au ronnie even more so

When she was a kid birthdays were very casual affairs. Just dinner at home with homemade cake and one or two presents.

But of course Jake still likes to treat her on her special day

He’ll wake her up by eating her out with breakfast in bed, making sure the kids stay out to give her a moment of peace and quiet.

He’s been working with the kids all week to make little presents for her. They wrote her stories, made cards, picked bouquets of wild flowers. The older ones will actually drive into town and pick something out from the store.

They’ll usually give gifts as soon as she’s up and out of bed, too impatient to wait any longer.

Then the rest of the day goes as normal for the most part.

The kids will go off to school and she’ll stay home, working on one project or other around the house and doing research in old werewolf texts.

She’ll cook her favorite for dinner

Then Frank will come over to watch the kids while Jake takes her on a run through the woods.

They’ll stop in their special little clearing for an evening glass of champagne that Ronnie carried on her back (she knows not to look inside the bag he gives her).

Jake always makes sure he has a project that she’s requested finished for her on her birthday. Whether it be a new jewelry box, a new table for the entryway, a new rocking chair for the nursery.

But sometimes he’ll add in something special. A necklace or braclet that he’s made himself in his shop, just because he can. Just because he loves seeing her in things that he’s made.

It’s a sweet birthday that ALWAYS without fail ends with them fucking in that clearing lol

Regency AU

Two words: birthday ball

But for real, every year Mr. Seresin and Miss Veronica plan an extravagant ball to be held on the evening of her birthday

They invite over all their friends, and neighbors, and family.

And of course there’s always a big enough cake for everyone to get a slice, the true marvel of the county for one night only

But I can imagine, as their daughters start to come of age and are introduced to society, that their birthday balls take on higher priority. And Miss Veronica stops throwing them on her own birthday all together.

The first birthday with no party would feel strange

Waking up with no plans besides her brother and his family, and Miss Amelia and her family, coming over for dinner

But goddamn if Mr. Seresin doesn’t make her feel special throughout the day

Showering her with gifts and affection, spending all of his time with her

And when the night is over and everyone has retired to bed or their respective homes, Mr. Seresin hums her a tune as they dance in their sitting room

NFL AU

Okay SO birthday before she got pregnant where she just finished out her first few weeks with the Colts:

She went down to Bloomington for the day

Met up with Bradley and a few college friends that still lived in the area

Walked around her old IU stomping grounds

And since Brad is the head coach of the football team, he got them all into the stadium

Him and Ronnie tossed around a ball and she got to run the ball down the field and celebrate like she just scored a touchdown

They went to Mother Bears for dinner then to Blue Bird for drinks and live music

Honestly one of the best birthdays she’s had in a long time

Now flashforward to the next March, baby Maddie is only a month old and her and Jake are engaged.

They still go down to Bloomington for the day

Ronnie gives Jake a tour of IU with Maddie strapped to her front

Brad still gets them into the stadium, and he holds his niece while Jake and Ronnie toss a ball back and forth

They go to Taste of India for dinner at Ronnie’s request

Then head off to their AirBnB in Nashville for the night since it’s way past Maddie's bedtime

After that, Ronnie can’t decide which birthday is better
