I just started watching a show called deadloch and while there is a fandom presence I am SHOCKED more people didn't go crazy about it. so i am left to assume to u just didn't know about it. so here is a sales pitch; murder mystery!! the first line of the show is "his dick is on fire". the buddy comedy with messy cringefail protagonists except they're girls you've been waiting for. mid 40s lesbian drama. dark humor. a naughty seal that everyone thinks eats human flesh. small town petty feuds and nosy neighbors. chaotic detective who refuses to wear regulation uniform and instead stomps around in an unwashed hawaiian shirt
deadloch is an australian black-comedy/murder mystery with a majority lesbian cast. it's a feminist subversion of the detective crime fiction genre, and is funny, well-written, and character-driven by complex interesting women. it's a feminist subversion on the crime genre without feeling preachy and touches on topics of decolonization with its aboriginal characters throughout the show.
if you're someone who is often asking for media centered on wlw characters that aren't in high school, have a plot not focused on their sexuality or coming out, and allow their characters to be flawed girlfails then deadloch is a really good show to pick up!
most of the show is focused on the main characters, dulcie and eddie, who are strangers unwillingly forced to work together to find a murderer. they're a classic buddy cop duo with clashing personalities and a full head height difference who evolve throughout the show to form a genuine work partnership.
it's really good and it's only 8 episodes long and on amazon prime! even without the humor it still makes a really solid murder mystery, and as a show it's very pretty and has a great soundtrack and is also literally lesbian broadchurch and a pinnacle example of girl yaoi. also if you're into ofmd madeleine sami, who's gonna be in s2 of ofmd, is one of the protagonists!
