I mentioned in tags before, but I actually feel very strongly about how philza cubitios build things to care about, and finds people who he cares for and is cared about, and finds things to believe in an commit to and that he not only survives but makes his life meaningful Despite the circumstances. I think its quite easy to a) miss all the ways in which his characters are often served pretty shitty circumstances, but then b) how he never let's that stop him finding purposeful and fulfilling meaning.

HC phil is deeply alone, and fills his world with motion and art and stories. He is a small person in a world of dead or abscenr gods and he makes his mark in his observations of the world and the recreations of its beauty.

DSMP Phil formed the strongest friendship on the server, stood for what he believed in and reached out to people and built a fucking Community of care and trust for people who had no where else to go. He lived, in the end, he an his lived. They got out

OSMP phil wasnt appreciated enough and was often quite isolated, but he still built for others and fought for others and committed himself to accessibility. Even the crow father could never really bring himself to cruelty he thought he believed in. And he had a close friend who stuck with him. He was shaped by fear and loneliness and need for control, but also by his loyalty and his dedication and his prowess

QSMP phil goes through hell, and is one of the most trusted, well respected and loved people on the server. Even in purgatory the team he leads is defines itself by its resistance to and acceptance of the circumstances they find themselves in, trying to find laughter and comradery where they can.

These stories are not stories of overcoming circumstances and tragedy, they're not stories of beating the odds, they're stories about finding yourself in a tragedy and standing tall and finding hope and love and care and joy and meaning within that. The ends may not always be the kindest, but they aren't what defines the story. What defines him again and again is how he cares, how he is respected and how he builds his own purpose. He makes his own happiness, even when the worlds refuse to gift him that. That can never be tragic to me.

The only cubitio who I think didn't do that as well was 30!day SMP and that's the grief of a life cut short.

Rose time! I realised I didn’t look at the tag… WHAT DO YOU MEAN EXECUTION?!?! Like attempted murder was a given, but execution?! That invokes fear. Execution could be anyone (except Wilbur cuz he’s the pov character). You know what invokes more fear? Friends to enemies. Bee, what have you done to rainduo? Bee, please. Unless all three of those relationships are the same (probably crimeboys) relaxation, which would be a rollercoaster, I am very scared for Niki and Wilbur’s friendship (which fair but I’ll get to that complexity). Also, Enemies to family, but like in an unhealthy way -> of course it is, it wouldn’t be a Bee story without some unhealthy relationships. Also this one definitely is Crimeboys.

Anyway, don’t mind me getting distracted by the tags, I just always forget to read them but there’s a lot you can get out of them. (Don’t mind me looking at that dysfunctional family tag and glancing and Sandduo.) like this story is going to be spicy and I’m here for it.

For the rest of this ask I’m just going to yell about things and then I’ll get to the analysis next ask. The origins tag? Amazing! 1. Because o!Phil is such a cool character I wish we got to see more of and that’ll be very fun mixed in with dsmp!Phil. 2. Sneeg!!! 3. Phil and Sneeg origins dynamic, which is obviously going to be in the background, but still!

Also, Ranboo being on Wilbur side compared to the other side is very interesting given how you wrote him in Stars, like he was a flawed character, but he did fool both Wilbur and Tommy on multiple occasions. Which rip Rose!Tommy already, I’m sorry that kid is going to have a TIME. And probably not a good one.

And the Wilbur dynamics are off the charts, childhood best friends rainduo is *chef’s kiss* especially with the shared habits and Wilbur’s clear loyalty, but how loyal is he really? Tntduo strike the perfect, we are technically on opposite teams, but we are still friends and Quackity saying Wilbur would still have a place says a lot about their dynamic and how Quackity views Wilbur (I’ll get to that). And the Sandduo. Bee, I have WORDS about the Sandduo. There’s so many layers, I’m going to have a blast peeling them all back. Wilbur has daddy issues and it SHOWS. And Phil loves his son. He really does want the best for that boy. He may just also be slightly fucking him up in the process because this man has the emotional intelligence of a grain of salt.

Also, Techno! I hope we get to see more of him! We should with the meetings and all, but I can’t say to much about him because we’ve barely seen him. Btw, what does Keeper mean / do? I’ll look it up too, but I wanted to ask.

(I’m going to have to look up so much of the vocabulary in this, which is great because I’m learning new works, but imagining some of the clothes is hard because those tend to be the words I don’t know and I didn’t have time to look it up while reading yesterday.)

YEAHHH o!phil my beloved! I mean we actually did see a bit of o!phil in stars. stars!phil was a mix of dsmp, origins, and smp earth phil for sure, but the o!phil influence is definitely going to be a lot more obvious in rose. also I think I said this in one of the other asks I just answered, but besides o!phil the main reason I wanted to throw the osmp tag on there was because I just really want to have sneeg in a fic lol. I love o!phil and o!sneeg's dynamic so much so I'm so excited I get to include it in this.

lol yeah ranboo's definitely not going to have as big of a role in rose as they did in stars, but it'll be interesting to have him on wilbur's side this time around. or rather, I guess it's more fitting to say they're on phil's side. wilbur just reaps the benefits of finding out everything ranboo knows because they tell sneeg and sneeg tells phil and phil tells wilbur. little game of telephone going on here.

so glad you're enjoying the wilbur dynamics so far because I'm having so much fun with them :D childhood best friends rainduo means so much to me. they share so much of themselves with each other. so many shared habits, secrets, promises, memories—I'm so excited to dig into that friendship and let the stress of their situation press down on the seams :)

tntduo too there's so much going on there. they're friends but also they've always technically been on opposing sides. they have a lot of mutual respect for each other. they're also childhood friends but it was always niki and wilbur vs quackity. it's a lot going on

YEAHHH the sandduo was the bit i was most excited for you to see. there are so many layers to them. oh my GOD wilbur's daddy issues are off the charts in this, and it's not even like phil's a bad dad. i mean, the lessons he's already instilled into his son's head are definitely questionable, but he loves his kid a lot! he wants him to succeed. he wants him to continue his legacy. he wants to make sure wilbur learns all the lessons phil himself had to learn the hard way. but also, he has no emotional intelligence whatsoever. surely this will have no long lasting impacts on wilbur's psyche.

we'll get more of techno I promise! he's not going to be a main character but he'll be very present! the 'keeper' is meant to be a 'keeper of knowledge' (I haven't officially decided on the full job title but it's something like that). essentially, he's the palace librarian/archivist. he manages important documents and records and also oversees the library, and was also charged with being wilbur and niki's tutor as they were growing up.

yeah I'm so sorry about the clothes I'm trying my best to describe them but a lot of them you're just gonna have to google because I can't describe them all very well and sometimes I just gotta use the lesser known official term for them. if there's ever any outfit/item of clothing I mention in the text that you don't know, feel free to shoot me an ask about it and I'll find a reference pic for you!!

High Shelf

Summary: (osmp) wilbur trying to reach the high shelf turns into a lesson in tickling with ranboo

hiii I’m back, this is kinda shit but I wrote it all today and I’m not re-writting it so here take it, Also O!Ranboo she/her and o!wilbur it/he

Ranboo didn't understand a lot of things in the Overworld.

Generosity was a big one, but Tommy had been helping her with that and Ranboo liked to say she was getting the hang of it.

That's why when she saw Wilbur, the phantom hybrid, struggling to reach some ingredients from one of the top shelves, Ranboo decided that she would be kind (see! She is nice, Ranboo would have to remember to tell Tommy later), and help him.

That was the second thing she didn't understand. Overworld hybrids were so short. 

Ranboo had known that Enderman hybrids were taller than average (even in the end), but there were just some hybrids here that were just small. Sneegs, an inchling was a good example of that, Ranboo often feared that the squeaks of floorboards were Sneeg being accidentally crushed.

"Hey, need some help?" Ranboo asked, walking over.

Wilbur nodded, "yeah could you grab that purple thing and the netherwAHART RANBOO!" The phantom hybrid got cut off.

Ranboo picked Wilbur up, one hand on either side of his waist and then Phantom started struggling and wiggling. 

"Puhut meheh down!" Wilbur demanded.

Ranboo lowered him so his feet touched the ground but didn't let go. Instead she stared at the phantom confused.

"I was helping? Is that not what you wanted?" Ranboo asked.

"I just needed you to grab it for me!" Wilbur said in return. 

"I didn't know what you wanted, you could have just grabbed it yourself just then," Ranboo said in frustration. Overworlders were frustrating.

"Fine! I just fucking need it man," Wilbur sighed. 

"That's not kind words," Ranboo nodded to herself in confirmation. Tommy would be proud. 

"Sorry sorry," Wilbur did not sound sorry, "Just please help," the phantom asked.

"Fine, but you're grabbing it. I'm not touching whatever any of that is," Ranboo looked at the shelf filled with all different materials and vials. Some of which looked slimey and disgusting (no offence to Charlie of course).

Wilbur looked wary but hesitantly nodded after a moment, “just be careful,” was his only comment.

Ranboo picked Wilbur up the same way and only raised an eyebrow when the phantom tensed and held his breath. 

“Little higher,” Wilbur said while reaching an arm up. Ranboo nodded and adjusted her grip so she could lift him higher. That failed as Wilbur instantly brought its arm down to Ranboos hand and tried to curl up mid-air.

“Stop flailing!” Ranboo glared as she tried to maneuver around Wilburs bony tail that was swinging around now.

“I cahahan’t stop!” Wilbur laughed as he reached an arm up, the ingredients were so close! Then Ranboo shifted slightly and Wilbur's arm came back down. 

“Why do you keep laughing?” Ranboo was getting a tad frustrated at this point.  She was just holding a curled up Wilbur in the air, and Wilbur was damn lucky that since it was a phantom, it didn't have much weight because if so she would have dropped it without hesitation.

Wilbur waited for its titters to die down and then it spoke, “you know what you're doing!” 

Ranboo scowled, no way was the phantom blaming this on her right now.

"Wilbur."

When Tommy threw open Wilbur's door at 3 in the afternoon on a Sunday, Wilbur was properly pissed and ready to scream at the younger to "get the fuck out" as any older sibling would. However, at the worried look on Tommy's face Wilbur decided to spare the blonde any yelling and listen.

"I have a partner project with Tubbo that's due tomorrow so I have to go to his house and start and finish it." Tommy said as he leaned against the doorway.

Maybe Wilbur would yell at him after all.

"What's that got to do with me?" The brunet asked now setting his guitar back in its case.

"Well, I think Techno's really anxious for his fencing tournament on Tuesday and usually I help him when he's stressed cause I'm just the best person in the world obviously but I can't today and maybe could you?"

Wilbur decided he wouldn't yell at Tommy.

"Sure, go do your homework with Tubbo I'll be here for Techno," Wilbur smiled and Tommy visibly relaxed. "What do you usually do with him to help relieve stress?"

Tommy gained a light blush on his cheeks and rubbed the back of his neck, "uh nothing specific, nothing specific. Well bye I'm going to Tubbo's!" Wilbur didn't have time to ask another question before the younger was running out of the house.

The older sighed and put his guitar case gently under his bed and twisted his back to hear the satisfying crack. He supposed he should go check on Techno if what Tommy said was true.

Wilbur walked over to his twins room and gently knocked on the door (because he, unlike others *cough tommy cough*, knew how to be respectful and ask before entering). As soon as he heard a faint "come in" he threw open the door and walked up to where Techno was hunched over some books on his desk.

"Whatcha reading?" Wilbur asked as he peered over his twins shoulder. Techno pushed his face away with an annoyed grunt and closed the book to show him the title.

"Why?" Wilbur asked while concealing a smirk. It was time to show off his younger sibling (by two minutes) skills.

"Because I have a tournament coming up," Techo replied while opening the book to his bookmarked page.

"Why?" Technos huffed in annoyance but still replied.

"Because it's tournament season," he flipped to the next page.

"Why?" Wilbur was enjoying this way too much.

"If you ask that one more time I'm going to, well I don't know what I'll do but you won't like it," Techno said after a deep breath.

Maybe Wilbur would regret it, but it was worth it to see Techno so very annoyed. In addition it served as a distraction from his twins stress so win win.

Techno could hear the smirk in Wilbur's voice as the brunet said, "why?" One last time.

Wilbur jumped as Techno slammed his book shut and turned to glare at him.

"I'll give you 5 seconds," Wilbur didn't think twice before sprinting out of the room and down the stairs.

He faintly heard a "4" before the sound of the chair scrapping against the ground was heard.

Btw, if you have not had tragedy dropped on you before, grief does fuck you up in unexpected and physical ways. If you can’t sleep or sleep more than expected or have more or reduced appetite, or energy goes weird— your brain just had a bunch of emotions dropped on it and sometimes it reacts by hitting every button in your brain. It will pass. Just try to not get too frustrated with yourself.

It’s also fine if you feel normal. Grief literally hits everybody differently, and some people are made to be able to to keep the farm going the day after a death, and some of us turn into sleepless gargoyles and get really into trying to help, and some of us are just unspeakably sad. Grief is weird. Be kind to yourself.

i’ve gotten a shocking amount of asks of people saying they saw a post of mine on twitter (...wild) and it convinced them to move over to tumblr for fandom content instead of twitter. which, good on you, tumblr is a much happier place to be! however there are a few unspoken rules/tumblr etiquette things that i’m gonna put here for all those anons who were asking so i don’t spam my blog with ask replies. 

- tumblr does not have a built in blacklisting function. download x-kit on chrome extensions. it is a life saver and will walk you through how to use it.

- liking things don’t really do anything. it’s better that you reblog content to push it to more people, because likes only serve to boost the amount of notes something has. you don’t have to do anything, however reblogging stuff helps keep content alive. 

- you don’t have to tag things. tumblr is very different form twitter in the fact that people will just straight up say no if you ask them to trigger tag something. but most people follow the tagging system of “[trigger] tw” if you do end up needing things censored. most people in all honesty use tags to make comments about the post without awkwardly clogging up the post. 

- people on here are also really good about tagging negative stuff for fandom content so you don’t have to see it. don’t tag your character/creator critical post with simply ‘[character/creator]’. tag it ‘[character/creator] critical’ and/or ‘[character/creator] negative’ so it doesn’t get into the main tags and people who don’t want to see it won’t have to.

- do not tag for engagement. people will be pissed and for good reason if your post mentioning tommyinnit for one sentence has the tag ‘tommyinnit’ along side 50 other tags. tag for people to filter your content or so you can find it easier later on. 

- specifically talking to the mcyt fandom here, and this one is really important: do not use the tags ‘minecraft’ or ‘mineblr’ on things that are not explicitly minecraft content that’s unrelated to content creators. use the specific fandom (i.e hermitcraft, dream smp, osmp (the origins smp tag), etc.) and/or ‘mcyt’. if your post is about some cool mod pack or screenshots of a beautiful build, go ahead and tag it mineblr or minecraft! if your post is about the different dream smp members’ minecraft skins, do not tag it mineblr or minecraft.

- blocking people is okay. i learned recently that apparently blocking people on twitter is like an offense of something. tumblr uses do not give a shit if you block them. block people for literally any reason from ‘dont like their profile picture’ to ‘theyre a murderer’. nobody gives a fuck if you block them.

and finally, the biggest thing with tumblr fandom culture is, in all honesty, to just keep to yourself. reblog what you want, like what you want, tag what you want and block who you want. but don’t go trying to ‘debate’ others opinions on characters or adding unnecessary comments to the end of every post. tumblr has become a really nice place to fandom/stan culture, but please please please if you’re coming from twitter make sure you aren’t being an ass and learn tumblr etiquette rather than treating it like twitter.

Heavy script helps with a coherent storytelling sure, but, it has genuinely injured the smp and drove off some of the most passionate about improv roleplay people off of it, which are the majority.

Now literally all half the people on the server do is mock it constantly; people who haven't been on for months log on and straight up keep bringing up roleplay, or lore, as the butt of any joke or any out of the ordinary interaction. Like all of the past few months legit made me dislike the word "lore" so fucking much. One: it doesn't even fit the definition and two: it's like eating too many sweets and wanting to not look at them ever again. (Of course not in a sense of getting too much story because, well)

With so many people talking about it already during like the s1 of Osmp perioud before and now Tommy genuinely feeling no purpose on the server for him and the peole who've been involved in it all most, now barely touching the smp, you can't help but feel a little sad that it has become just a topic for people to mock and therefore not be involved in it, or constantly having to state one or the other, or just comstantly having to go "it's not lore that's not lore aha" out of idk what, fear of not complying to whatever the fuck or being cringe (??) or not being good (also bullshit) or something :/

I love how their official names are different (and unusual), like wilum, nikanna, tomys, alecs

once again you have something special about names and looking back to the series name I have a feeling there will be moments where the choice between formal name and nickname will be important

(the lengths stories in english have to go to show the border between formal/informal addressing /hj, names have a different beat to them but the technique is actually similar

its a bit sad actually, I feel like so many english texts could go bonkers if "thou" and "ye" still existed and didnt get merged into you)

I mean we already saw something similar in the prequel with phil calling wilbur wilum to show importance of the situation

gotta say, the importance of names is always a bit different and never boring and I love it

origins characters and character traits oh my that opens up so many possibilities i love the sound of this

also just the phil we see in the prequel has some "harsh" qualities, setting kids up against each other which fits o!phil much more than c!phil, so many new traits to play with

excited to see how this might change the characters and relationships and stuff (sandduo is bound to be interesting, not that they werent before, but yk)

oh I had such a fun time coming up with the names. I also struggled so fucking hard LMAO. I think Nikanna is my favorite of the names I came up with, although I thought Alecs and Tomys were clever since it's just alternate spellings. also it hasn't been mentioned in text yet, but Sam's full name is Samuel Aswyn and I'm pretty happy with myself for coming up with Aswyn as a surname equivalent for 'awesamdude'

but yeah there's always going to be an element of importance given to names in a fic like this. like, it's one of my favorite tropes to use. it definitely isn't going to have the same weight as names in glass and stars did, but it'll be there for sure.

you get it though. like, we would benefit SO much if we still used thou and ye because we could go insane in the membrane with the way we write interactions between characters. but alas i just have to create convoluted worldbuilding rules about the roles of names to get my point across instead...

yeah I mean stars!phil definitely had elements of o!phil in him, but it'll definitely be more obvious in rose. also, ngl, a huge part of why I decided to throw osmp in the tags was because I just wanted to write o!sneeg. I fucking love o!phil and o!sneeg's dynamic they're so funny together so when I was like "holy shit I could put sneeg in rose" I knew I had to do it

No romantic relationships. OSMP!Jack Manifold & OSMP!Smajor-centric.

Think for a moment, your friend is struggling for multiple days with certain death. Sleeping for what feels like eternity, and when they do start to move it looks like sleep-walking, all they do is eat maybe one bite and then they’re already back down. You’ve been taking care to make them comfortable and try to save their life. Now, what’s your reaction when they wake up?

Because for Scott and Phil, the only two by him at that moment, the immediate reaction is to freeze until your friend croaks out, “ow.”

Seeing as any other expression of pain was akin to guttural mumbling, this was the first sign that Jack was really awake.

The next sign was him looking to Scott, eyes actually focusing somewhat, and going, “‘Ey, what happened…?”

Phil immediately ran to tell everyone else, while Scott stayed to talk to Jack.

“Do you… remember anything?”

Jack recounts the nether fight, seeing claws, the feeling of being gored by claws, Scott talking (though he couldn’t remember what he said), ringing in his ears, and blacking out. “…And I woke up here.”

Then Scott only stared into the distance. He almost lost the boy, the stargazer who hung on every word that Scott said about the sky. Thrilled that they change. Listened to every ramble and always made Scott feel better with his pure delight and intrigue. The same person who ran under cover in rain just to watch Scott do acrobatic jumps into the air. Tommy’s adoptive brother, Wilbur’s inspiration, Niki’s best friend. And he just woke up from near-death.

Jack spoke up again. “Uh… How long have I been out, Scott?”

“A week.” Scott’s voice shook, mixed with incredulous chuckling. “A week, Jack.”

Jack’s face fell. A week? Did he have any dreams? What happened while he was asleep? How is that possible? A week? Is Niki okay? Where is everyone? And are those burns on Scott’s arms? Why was he burned so badly? Fuck’s sake, why was Scott burned—?

“I’m so sorry.” Scott’s voice sounded strained, breathing heavily, like he was trying not to cry. “I’m going to fix this.”

Before Jack could respond, question what else had happened, or ask ‘fix what,’ he heard footsteps, a crowd of his friends rushing to see him, slowly getting louder.

“Mate!” Was shouted, clearly in Phil’s voice, as door opened, filled with relieved faces.

And as Phil and the others rushed in, Scott ran out of the pub, down the ladder and out of sight. He was confused, in dull pain, holding his aching chest, and left with the image of Scott’s burned arms stuck in his mind. Jack swore his ears were ringing again, because he couldn’t hear what anyone else was saying.
