Thank you kindly for the tag @sealrock - I decided to do this for my gentle shinigami, I believe I may have done it in the past but I can not locate it! So here we go! Though I take a lot from myth, these seem to inspire me the most!

Arashi is from X/1999. Natsume is from Natsume Yuujinchou. Shiranui is from Onmyoji - a big inspiration! Izanami no Mikoto - another major inspiration taken from myth! Princess Kaguya - based on the Ghibli film and Monogatari. Celty from Durarara!!

Hali Aloke Inspiration Chart

So I did this for Yume a really long time ago, so I thought it was past time to also do it for Hali! I picked the top 6 characters that either directly inspired Hali in some way, or they were unconsciously in my brain while I was creating her and I recognized the similarities later on. Granted there are more than just these 6, but these are just the main ones.

I’ll go into more detail about each selection below!

Tidus (Final Fantasy X/X-2) - So this selection was due to me being a dumb dumb and I didn’t realize at first that Tidus was an unconscious inspiration for Hali. I always had Rikku in mind for a lot of Hali’s look, mannerisms, and a lot of her personality, but Tidus and his journey is very similar to Hali’s in a lot of ways, and their reactions to what is going on around them are very much alike. They speak their mind, even if it’s in the so called “uncouth” way, and they both wear their emotions on their sleeve, quick to either be cheerful, joyful, and carefree, or to be sad or angry. They are passionate about who and what they care for, and aren’t afraid to show it, for the most part anyway. There’s also their shared water symbolism. If Rikku is much like Hali on the surface, Tidus is who Hali resembles deep down.

Rikku (Final Fantasy X/X-2) - So I talked a bit about Rikku already, but Rikku was the first FF character I thought of when I wanted to develop Hali’s personality. Rikku is a cheerful, bubbly, intelligent and funny person, who is quite likeable to most people, and all of that is Hali as well. Rikku’s mannerisms are also direct inspiration, as Hali waves her hands and arms around while she talks, just like Rikku does, especially when they get excited about something. They also both have green eyes and Hali’s newest hairstyle, the Gyr Abanian Plaits, are reminiscent of Rikku’s hairstyle in FFX-2.

Rinoa Heartilly (Final Fantasy VIII) - Rinoa resembles Hali in a few ways, but what comes to mind the most are her quirkiness, her bubbly personality and her trying to get a more silent, brooding person to open up to her (I think Hali does this with Estinien though they are completely platonic), and her willingness to always help others in need, even when she is in way over her head. Hali also shares her love of animals, sense of style, and favorite color! Hali would steal Rinoa’s clothes in an instant.

Moana (Disney’s Moana) - This one is probably an obvious choice, as I’ve probably mentioned before that Hali has Disney Princess vibes, and the Princess that she resembles the most is Moana for sure. One of Hali’s songs that I always envisioned for her is “How Far I’ll Go”, and even possibly “I Am Moana” to a lesser extent. The obvious connection to water and the ocean is there (Hali’s name means ocean by the way), and there’s the fact that Hali’s very distant relatives live in the Southern Isles. Moana’s desire to not only go out and see the world beyond her island home along with wanting to help save her people is top Hali vibes all the way.

Ariel (The Little Mermaid) - I think this one might also be a bit obvious, since the water connection and all, but Ariel and Hali also have a ton in common personality wise and with their hopes and dreams. Hali longs to see the outside world, just as Ariel wants to be in the human world. They both also so happen to fall in love with men who have black hair and blue eyes, and they want to be a part of their world. The song “Part of Your World (Reprise)” is such a Hali song that she would sing to Aymeric. Ariel and Eric are actually the Disney couple that fits Hali and Aymeric’s dynamic the most as well. Oh and though I haven’t seen the live action version yet, I used that picture in honor of another coincidence: Ariel’s actress is Halle Bailey, which is the same name as Hali, just different spelling, but it is the same pronunciation!

Tsukino Usagi (Sailor Moon) - Last but not least, is Usagi! Usagi was a direct inspiration for Hali, with their obvious similarities in personality, their love for a man who has black hair and blue eyes in two lifetimes, and their symbolism with the moon and stars. Hali has such magical girl vibes, and Usagi is the inspiration for it for sure! Though Hali’s pink hair and her original hairstyle with the big pigtails is more like Chibiusa, Hali is still much more like Usagi than Chibiusa in personality. Usagi’s complete selflessness with wanting to save the world, her friends, and the man she loves above her own life is absolutely Hali too.

WOL Inspo Chart

Lexa kom Trikru (The 100): Lexa's entire aesthetic and introduction was what made me get hyped about the show seeing as how she wasn't in the books. She was always interesting to me for how she commanded the respect of her people and was a visionary. She did what she needed to do even if people ended up hating her in the end. It was a trait I knew that Iza needed to have.

Eris, Goddess of Discord (Sinbad): Eris by far was one of my favorite villains and in the beginning even with Iza being hailed the Warrior of Light, she was indeed a villain. Eris is the true, pure representation of malevolence and deviance which after losing her entire family, that's who Iza became. In order to beat the Garleans she had to be just as ruthless, manipulative and intelligent as they were. They bought chaos into her life and she would return the favor BUT despite that she remained a woman of her word.

Evelyn O'Connell (formally Carnahan) (The Mummy): Evie's love of history, knowledge and adventure in general is another one of the bases of who Iza is at her core. She adapts that philosophy of "if she could touch something and see it, then it was real".

Right side, top to bottom:

Avatar Kyoshi (Avatar the Last Airbender): Everyone knows Kyoshi as the "take no shit" Avatar and this is extremely true but she is also a person who was empathic, considerate, trusting and level-headed. She also suffered from low self-esteem and doubted her abilities to be a good avatar. To loved ones, she showed those soft traits. To the world, she is the direct, fierce and assertive woman we know and has always been an idol of mine. It would have been easy to pack on only good traits to the making of Iza but I wanted her to have hidden gems as well that only the most determined of people would find.

Naruto Uzumaki (Naruto): The entire story of Naruto from beginning to end is emotional and so inspiring. To be doubted and feared to loved and respected is something he earned through years of having one goal and dream. In many ways, Naruto and Iza are truly one and the same in that respect except the talking. Iza would much rather just beat someone's ass.

Lynn Wiles (Pulse): Lynn's personality of seeing life for what it is and having the ability to connect with everyone she meets while while being incredibly cheesy is who Iza was and who I hope to make her once again. It's one of the many things that has to be drawn out by the right people.

Character Inspirations - Myril Soleil

Ruby Rose (RWBY) - Scythes are fucking cool. The main draw for her for Myril inspiration is the idea of a hero from nowhere - someone young, who had to grow up far too fast for the sake of those around her, and holds herself to impossible standards. 2. Baiken (Guilty Gear) - A wandering warrior who lost her home and much of what she loved, forced to try and find new purpose. Plus ronin are cool. Very much the vibe for Myril near Endwalker and beyond, an older and more grown Myril. Plus, Myril's southern accent is inspired by the same logic that inspired Baiken's southern accent in the ENG dub of GGST. 3. Umbra + The Operator (Warframe) - Weird to have two characters in one spot, but the dynamic of Umbra and the Operator is pretty similar to Myril and her voidsent, Kagami - of restoring the humanity to a lost and traumatized "monster" through acceptance and patience they had elsewise never been shown. "...they had learned a way to see inside a broken, ugly thing... and take away its pain." 4. Blake (also RWBY!) - This is more about how Myril handles trauma, how often she runs away, and how she grows to move past that part of herself. Also we love emo catgirls. 5. Jin Sakai (Ghost of Tsushima) - A story about a man who abandons the outdated code of honor that his father lived, and more importantly died by? That's not unlike Myril abandoning what lead her father to his death against Zenos and coming up with her own, "less disciplined" fighting style to distance herself from her father, who was far from the perfect man she believed him to be. 6. Joshua Rosfield (FF16) - He's technically just a stand in for phoenixes in general - they've always been my favorite mythological creature, and the way the phoenix manifests throughout FFXIV is a big inspiration for me to implement some of that into Myril - which I have!

complicated relationship with Aymeric you say 👀 I would love to hear about it

also do you have a blank version or link to the blank version of that “characters who are just like my WOL fr” chart it intrigues ms greatly. I love that it’s specific about what exactly the inspiration from the characters is.

As for Aymeric…

Long story short, they never fostered an actual real relationship before just getting in the nitty gritty of intimacy because it is my religious belief that Aymeric is deeply repressed like a Catholic maiden and Utushama kept just leaving for MSQ immediately the day after they’d fool around. Utushama assumed they were on the same page (this wouldn’t work because they have conflicting responsibilities) (this is also kind of an excuse, he’s starting to develop a pattern of starting something, ditching ASAP, and then using MSQ as a noble excuse) but they weren’t really. I love to pretend Lucia is mad at him for this because it made Endwalker kind of funny. Usual spoiler warning for everything ahead!

Short story long, after the Dragonsong War’s end, they kept things entirely professional including their dinner and dealing w the aftermath of it all but were slowly (and I mean SLOWLY) building a tension between them like it was a Victorian period drama. Like, a show of ankle would give Aymeric a heart attack at this point. So they had two days of building up to this that no one in the world could’ve possibly guessed was any kind of build up to anything followed by one night of Halone-dishonoring acts (initiated by Utushama because why not. Why not hit and run the beautiful President of Dragon Catholics City after you saved them all. Especially after increasingly escalating moments of barely repressed interest). And immediately after, without explanation or any warning, Utushama left for MSQ, with the assumption that they were both in agreement that they couldn’t have an actual relationship because one of them loves their country more than anything else in the world and the other is a traveling adventurer. He didn’t say this because it was so obvious to him but Aymeric was obviously left a little confused and feeling slightly abandoned but bigger things at stake, y’know.

And then they meet again when Ala Mhigo is liberated because all the Eorzean Alliance leaders are there and Utushama is feeling very disoriented and bad because Zenos just killed himself in front of him, denying him of any closure to the distress he’s been feeling for all of Stormblood. And they are once again very professional as if they hadn’t explored each other’s bodies that one time. Aymeric invites him to dinner again and when the subject of trying to define their relationship is brought up, Utushama deflects by hitting him point-blank with the “ok, do you want to do that again” and Aymeric is flustered enough by this that despite being a very savvy politician, the Catholic maiden part of him overrides the many slightly orange flags. Once again, Utushama slips away without warning immediately after.

They don’t speak again until right after the Ghimlyt Dark, wherein canon provided me a lovely moment of quiet between the two of them. Utushama, being injured, is then unable to escape from this conversation that Aymeric begins, wherein Aymeric himself first confesses to hoping to be something more serious, to which Utushama answers in a manner that is between bafflement and regret that they weren’t ever going to be a thing (because again, he thought they were on the same page about this). Aymeric is sad but can see the logic in this and admits that Utushama deserves someone who cares more about him than their political responsibilities, who could and would follow him to the ends of the earth. (There is no reason for him to be so self-deprecating on the matter because it’s not as if he were the one at fault for this, but Utushama just has a way of making people feel bad for wanting reasonable things from him. It’s kind of cruel of him but he also is entirely unaware that he’s doing this.) This is a fun bit of foreshadowing for me personally because this could mean anyone but should the monkey’s paw curl, that sure does describe a certain horrible prince he despises. But after accidentally doing all that to Aymeric, maybe he does deserve to be tormented. Just a little. I’ve been following a sort of narrative path wherein anyone who likes Utushama for being a hero figure can’t actually get with him for good because they’re enabling his bad habits and it’s going to end badly.

Anyway, all this made the Endwalker casting quests very fun because they just kind of josh around lightly and even reference their old fling without it being a whole thing and it feels like the weight of whatever they were doing is off Aymeric now so he’s able to be confident and normal again. If they ever fool around again post-Endwalker, it’s noticeably different because Aymeric has moved past the whole blushing maiden for the hero role. Utushama is admittedly kind of. Strangely sad to see him move past him but by then knows that it was probably for the best. It’s just hard for him to even metaphorically feel like he’s the one being left behind. And Lucia is no longer mad at him but it’s really funny to let him keep thinking she is!

So yeah, his relationship with Aymeric is kind of tangled and convoluted and despite indulging once or twice, he doesn’t actually seem to like talking about it beyond whatever’s professional because he’s just very private. I’ve no idea what the general consensus is on Aymeric and Estinien’s relationship but I imagine it was much more straightforward than this. Utushama inadvertently projects and assumes it was just as complicated based on the way Estinien talks about Aymeric in MSQ tidbits but I think it’s funnier if it was actually relatively tame and Estinien is just being dramatic.

Down Left: Xena Warrior Princess My number two inspiration from childhood. When I was little and loved heroic fantasy, she helped me understand that you don't have to be a princess waiting for your knight or hero. You can save the world (including knights and heroes) by yourself.

Humble WoL Inspiration Chart Thingy.

Apologies for the lack of polish, I don't have much in the way of technical ability, even after the assistance of @starrysnowdrop (with the collage program) and @humblemooncat (with making me an idiot-proof version of the chart). Thank you very much both!

More information below the cut for anyone interested.

Characters being:

Conan the Barbarian. But really any classic barbarian-type character, like Kull or even Kratos. Definitely an aesthetic inspiration, even if Humble's character differs somewhat from the savage barbarian archetype.

Samwise Gamgee. Loyal, sincere and brave - a good man who often feels out of his depth amongst the great and the powerful, but whose honesty and bravery change the course of events.

Pyornkrachzark, the Rock Biter from The Neverending Story. A polite and kind character, despite his intimidating appearance, the Rock Biter comes across as both dangerous and reassuring, powerful and yet vulnerable, at the same time.

The Incredible Hulk. A character whose entire personality and approach to the world changes when he gets really really angry, at which point he smashes everything in a rage-fuelled rampage.

Big Buck Bunny. Another huge, but kind and gentle character who stands up to bullies when pushed too far. (4) Big Buck Bunny 60fps 4K - Official Blender Foundation Short Film - YouTube.

Jason Ogg. The Blacksmith from Lancre in the Discworld Novels. Some people say Jason is a bit slow, because he doesn't say much. Some people don't pay attention.

Not gonna get into detail for each of the characters and why they inspire here (too drained and stressed from trying to get Tumblr to work), but the overall inspiration is - gentle and kind, yet strong-willed ladies that do anything to protect those they love. Also you can see why Kiyo was originally blonde lol

@sealrock was very kind and tagged me in this challenge! i made one of these for vej relatively recently, so i decided to do it for tabur this time! i would say only a few of these are characters i took direct inspiration from for parts of tabur's personality, the others are more ones i look at and i'm like "yeah, you're tabur-coded." let's see, how about i tag... @allyennah @eleventhcircle @e-dragoons @pettyeti @duskmother and @ghastlyfantasy! get the template here if you want to do it!

i'll explain the connections (and include the source material) under the cut!

jing yuan from honkai: star rail: this guy is a bit too recent to be a direct inspiration to tabur's character, BUT oh my god. he perfectly encapsulates the way that tabur approaches problems as the warrior of light. tabur greatly prefers preventing an issue from arising to begin with rather than dealing with 'saving the day'. jing yuan's laidback nature also fits how tabur conducts herself when among friends, though she puts on a much more serious front to the public. dimitri alexandre blaiddyd from fire emblem: three houses: probably one of my biggest inspirations for tabur. they have a very princely, chivalrous nature that hides a lot of inner turmoil and darkness. tabur struggles very heavily with anger issues that they are usually able to keep under control, but when pushed far enough, tabur is very akin to dimitri post-timeskip. cynical, ruthless, pretty bloodthirsty. don't get tabur mad.

margaret nearl from arknights: nearl and tabur are both shining paragons of the paladin archetype (or, at least, tabur tries to be) and were both exiled from their family/homeland. the two of them both share a very strong sense of duty to protect others. nearl's eng va is also my headcanon for tabur's voice when they are fantasia'd to a more feminine appearance.

vash the stampede from trigun: mommy issues. no, in all seriousness, tabur and vash are very similar in the sense that both take the moral lessons taught to them by their mother to heart and use those lessons to build themselves a code of conduct that they try their absolute best to stick to no matter what happens to them. tabur is also incredibly self-sacrificing, much like vash, to the point where most of tabur's scars/injuries are from protecting others. palamedes sextus from the locked tomb series: okay, i've only finished gideon the ninth, but i'm pretty confident putting palamedes on here. tabur's keen intellect and their alchemical/medical knowledge put them in the same field as palamedes, along with their shared soft spot for romance. i think palamedes and tabur would be friends and nobody can convince me otherwise. cecil harvey from final fantasy iv: cecil is mainly on here because tabur and him have the opposite job progression. cecil started as a dark knight and became a paladin, tabur started as a paladin and became a dark knight (though they return to their paladin ways for endwalker).
