1865 is an absolutely fantastic audio drama that follows the fallout from the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. This is my review.
I figured I’d start my journey around here by sharing a review I did of one of my absolute favorite audio dramas.
What can I say about this audio drama that hasn’t already been said? Well, I’ll certainly try. 1865 is, without a doubt, one of the greatest audio dramas currently available. The music, soundscaping, and voice acting combine to create a truly cinematic experience.
1865 begins with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, and all of the poltical fallout this caused. In the process we see the game of cat-and-mouse that emerges between Secretary of War Edwin Stanton and former Vice President Andrew Johnson. The podcast explores a little known, yet incredibly important, era of American History. Each episode is accompanied by a bonus behind the scenes episode where the cast and crew explain the facts behind the fiction. They discuss the few instances where they deviated from the historical record, and why they chose to do so. They also talk about how they put the show together; how they gathered sounds, how they created the music, and more.
The cast of composed of professional voice actors, many of whom have worked in the anime dubbing industry. It was a pleasant surprise that I recognized many of them. Of course, the producers are no slouches either. They’ve teamed up with Lindsay Graham, creator of the popular American History Tellers podcast. Everyone involved worked together, like a well oiled machine, to create an amazing audio drama podcast.

Not A Book Friday
Pacast’s Medical Mysteries and Medical Murders are no longer being produced (and I’ve caught up on all of the episodes from both of them I believe) and so I was looking for another interesting medical mystery sort of podcast. This one fits the bill pretty well.
There have only been 8 or so episodes that I’ve listened to so far, but, some of the stories that MrBallen has done are so so not to be listened to during any meal, or before or after the meal, like, 12 hours before or after the meal.
In all seriousness though, it’s a very interesting podcast, mostly not gratuitously done either (always a plus). There was one where I guessed what was going on before MrBallen got to the conclusion, but, it’s great that for the most part these stories are new to me. Woo, see, see, I have not yet listened to too many podcasts!

To my moots that absolutely adore Hugh Dancy (and why shouldn't you?!?!):
I just started a new podcast called Ghost Story, and it literally involves Hugh's great-grandfather and great-grandmother. In fact, the podcast's host is Hugh's brother-in-law. AND!!!! Hugh takes part in the podcast.
No spoilers here, but if you're looking for something interesting to listen to as you go about your day, take a gander at this podcast. You probably won't regret it.

Not A Book Friday
This is a newer podcast than I usually recommend (I just happened upon it quite quickly compared to my getting to the party a year or two later. And, I’m both happy I did, and sort of grossed out that I did.
So, apparently there was some sort of diet called the F Factor. And, well, this is the story of the inventor of that diet, who, let’s go with… hasn’t fared well when it comes to the publicity lately. Either about her, or about the F Factor.
It’s your typical really well put together Wondery podcast, with an added eww during a few of the first episodes when some slightly graphic results of the diet are described. And, of course, endlessly fascinating too/
