hi hellen! i'm a high schooler thinking of pursuing law - i know it's tough to get into, but i'd like to give it a shot. how did you know that it was right for you, and what would you consider to be the most important things to do to prepare to study it in advance? any additional advice would be great, thanks!
Well, the thing you often hear about "oh, you're so good at arguing, you should be a lawyer" is mostly bull. The actual main skills for a lawyer are research, writing, analysis/application, negotiation, debate (not arguing) and emotional regulation. If that sounds appealing, it may be a good fit!
I pretty much always tell people that you should do your bachelor's in something other than prelaw. In fact, it should be in whatever field you would want to have a career in if you weren't a lawyer. Law schools generally do not require specific undergrad majors, as I, with my double art degree can attest. Law school is geared to give you all the basic tools necessary for being a lawyer. I did not notice any meaningful advantage a prelaw major provided to my peers. If you have a particular law school in mind, look into their admissions criteria, but otherwise--get your bachelor's in your backup career.
Work on your reading and writing, and go to court. Courts are open to the public and these days most of them actually have facebook and twitter pages where they post dockets; many courts post-pandemic actually also livestream all proceedings, sometimes right on youtube. Look at what's going on in some of your local courts, and just go watch it happen. You are welcome to sit and watch court proceedings, just don't be disruptive and be prepared to go through a security check. Get a sense for what goes on!

I am so deranged right now.
Let me rant about my men; I don't feel like I can write the fic and I probably won't publish it even if I do. So you just have to deal with this.
Well, lets fucking go, Nosferatu AU. Let me misinterpret everything.
It's 3AM btw. Yes, I will use it as an excuse.
Firstly, we need to establish a few things about Orlok.
He is not a sadist evil motherfucker. Have you seen him, he does not express emotions. He smiles once and I doubt it is anything but a contortion of the face. He's not sadistic. Cold-blooded - yes, but not sadistic. However, he is not a complete animal either. He speaks and has enough intelligence to disguise himself and write letters. Animals can't write.
He is a balance between the two. He acts purely out of instinct but is also at least somewhat aware of everything. Again, does not act out of pure malice; he knows that he must survive and he does just that.
Now, Knock, my man. He was not brainwashed, at least not by the letter. I believe that the way he was introduced ("... Knock, the subject of all sorts of rumors. One thing was certain: he paid his people well.") hints that he has been like that for some time/is just like that. Also MAN HE PAYS HIS PEOPLE WELL. That's better than most employers nowadays, so what if he eats spiders or something. But I digress.
I suppose that two met at some point before the movie events. Now, let's work under the assumption that Knock was not brainwashed.
(By the way, I am a fucking buffoon and I have never read Dracula, so I have no idea what's going on with Renfield)
Let's say: at some point before the events of the movie, Orlok decided to acquire estate and somehow Knock was the one who was supposed to help him with it. They met.
I'll have to project my feelings onto Knock for a sec.
Let's say he became obsessed with Orlok because, well. How could you not. And we've seen how Knock is around him. Fucking batshit insane.
Oh, and another thing, their backstory.
With Knock I believe it's straightforward. He's just a man. Probably divorced. Works as a house agent.
As for Orlok, I've talked about it before.
«Out of Belials seed appeared the Vampire Nosferatu who lives and feeds of Human Blood. He lives in terrifying caves, tombs and coffins. These are filled with goddamned soil from the fields of the Black Death.» «I wondered for a long time, why it was said that Nosferatu had taken soil-filled coffins with him. I found recorded, that vampires can only get their dark strength from the goddamned soil in which they had been buried.»
You know.
If the soil is both from the fields of the black death and the one he was buried in.
He was a human at some point.
Resurrected as a vampire and doomed to bring the plague.
Now, imagine: you're Count Orlok. The Bird of Death. Nosferatu. People are afraid of you, fucking terrified. You bring death and plague everywhere you go. Once, some random guy appears. He is not afraid. You can barely understand human emotions, he can barely comprehend you - but he is delighted. Absolutely. He is obsessed. Devoted. You may not understand, you may not reciprocate fully.
But perhaps you remember your life. Slight feelings echo in your mind. Even if you are no longer able to love - would it not be worth to keep someone like Knock around? Would it not be somewhat pleasant to not be avoided and feared for once? Wouldn't it be nice to have someone who is genuinely close with you?
Why the fuckhell not.
However, let's just say, Knock is only a man. And being next to something like Nosferatu is not really healthy for you, physically or mentally. So well, eventually he became a bit "affected". Is that toxic? Idk. I mean, last time I was in a relationship of some sorts I also became a bit fucked in the head. It's just something that comes with love, you know, sometimes you just start eating bugs and become aggressive. Besides; I imagine that Knock's sanity only goes to shit near Orlok, and he's just mildly odd in regular circumstances. You know, how gay people are.

A few words on algorithms
So, I've seen a lot of posts where people speak about what an algorithm is (especially, in the context of websites like AO3 and YouTube) and I can't help but think that people consider it to be this magical being that nobody is able to grasp. As someone who is in the field of Computer Science, I feel like I need to add something to this discussion.
What is an algorithm? It's a recipe - that's all. It usually has some input data, and then"magic" happens and in the end, you are left with some output data. Let's take a cake as an example. The input data would be eggs, flour, baking powder etc., the algorithm would be all the steps you need to take to prepare said cake and output data would be the finished pastry. That's all.
With so many YouTubers talking about the sacred "YouTube Algorithm", the word "algorithm" seems to acquire a new meaning - that thing that nobody understands that recommends content. Yes, recommendation systems are algorithms, but that's just a tiny fraction. Do you know what's also an algorithm? Calculating delta or sorting objects. I wouldn't say it's that scary.
Because in some people's eyes "The Algorithm" needs to be extremely complicated and convoluted, they don't realise that algorithms are literally everywhere. So, to address a claim that I see often: "Does AO3 has an algorithm?". Of course, it does. However, it couldn't be more different than the yt one. What AO3 does is lists all works that match your filters and sorts them based chosen option. It absolutely is an algorithm, but it's not "The Algorithm". Obviously, there are also other things under the hood, but that's just websites.
I do hope it clears some things out because it's always painful for me to watch 2 people talking/arguing about a subject they clearly don't know enough.

Our Memory Of The Dawn 8 - Make It Work Out
Despite not knowing how far we'll go with regards to the battle we're fighting, I'll make sure we'll make it work out in the end for the both of us... ~ Florence Joyce
xxxxxx
Tumblr media
It has been a while since the rest of the Narnians saw what Amy and Edmund had seen while they were at the top of the How. Edmund even had to go back inside to call on his brother and inform him of the Telmarines' arrival near the How. Numbers alone, they were clearly outnumbered. Not to mention, the weapons they brought to the site that would surely put the rest of them to a disadvantage.
But this was clearly not the time for them to falter. They've made it this far. This was a war that they clearly had to win to finally free the Narnians once and for all.
After watching that display of arrival, the Narnians -- with Peter's permission -- decided to send out an envoy to deliver a message to King Miraz with regards to a proposed duel with the High King Peter himself. The whole time, Amy had only listened to the discussion and didn't voice out any of her thoughts about the proposal. But she knew that this was the only way they could acquire what they wanted personally. If worse comes to worst, of course, they had to prepare themselves for an all-out war.
And now, Amy could only watch with a sigh from the top of the How as Edmund, a dwarf, and a giant were chosen to deliver the message that Peter had declared. She didn't want to show it to anyone her worried for Edmund heading out on enemy's camp. But even with that, she tried to be positive about it.
Though she wasn't really sure how it would help her, she did her best to stay calm.
"I don't think they'd be foolish enough to attack Edmund without any reason, though. You don't have to look so worried for him."
That made her turn around, only to see both Susan and Lucy approaching her. She couldn't help showing a wry smile and turned back to watch over the field where Edmund was.
"Am I that obvious?" Amy asked instead.
"You are. I've seen your disposition changed since Edmund himself said that he'd be the one to deliver Peter's message to the Telmarines," Susan said as an answer before facing Lucy.
"It's not that I'm worried that they're going to hurt him," Amy admitted. "But we all know that the enemies had truly prepared to wipe the Narnians once and for all upon declaring this war. I'm worried about... something else, but still related to what we're facing right now."
"I don't understand," Lucy said.
"It's a discussion that Edmund and I had talked about before. About my way of helping out the Narnians with regards to the war. I... just want to make sure he's the first to know it."
To her confusion, she saw Susan and Lucy smile at each other before looking at her. But as much as she wanted to ask the sisters about her observation, her mind would still go back to the one person she'd been thinking all the while she was there.
"He'll come back soon. And when it happens, I know we have to be prepared. We'll head out on our respective tasks after the king agrees to Peter's proposal."
Amy nodded to Susan's words and once again, looked over the field. She knew she needed to stay strong and positive if she wanted her plan to work in their favor. If she believed in Lucy that the young Valiant Queen would be able to find Aslan, then Peter and the rest would be able to end the war for Caspian's sake, as well.
As for her, she could only think of one way to help the Narnians. And that is for her to retrieve her trump card and use it once again. This time, without the grief and hatred that once conquered her heart.
She could only hope that Edmund would be successful in making King Miraz accept the proposal.

Tumblr media
Once the proposal was made and accepted, the rest of the Narnians were in a frenzy to prepare for the duel. Of course, behind the scenes, Susan and Lucy were also doing their own preparations for their departure. But it wasn't that Edmund had wanted to pay attention to.
At the moment, he was starting to become a little frantic looking for one particular person. It took him a while before he finally found her in the stables. She was setting up the saddle on the black horse that he once picked when she asked what horse he would let her ride with one day.
Edmund didn't know why his heart skipped a beat at the sight of Amy doing that. Then again, this was the first time he had seen her do anything like this.
With a sigh, he finally took a step, then another, to approach the young Dawn Queen. It was then that he noticed that she was already wearing her signature leather bracer and chest guard. She was also wearing a belt which holstered her daggers. Which means she would only need to be hoisting her bow and the quiver of arrows and she'd be ready to go.
However, Edmund noticed one other thing about Amy, as well. She looked... uncertain. He frowned at the sight, though. Was she worried?
When the saddle was set, that was when Amy turned to his direction. The action almost made him halt to a stop, but he steeled himself to continue approaching the young woman. If there was something he was certain about Amy, he could bring out that smile from her.
A smile could be enough to ease both of their worries.
"Edmund," Amy called. "Have you finished preparing?"
He shook his head and stopped just a few feet in front of her. Despite the confusion that he could see in her face, it also looked like she was ready to listen. "I've been looking for you. You headed somewhere else right after I returned. And I didn't get to talk to you while we were having a meeting about the duel."
"I'm sorry. But it's not like I'm avoiding you."
Amy did look like she was sorry, and it made him smile, for some reason. It didn't last long, though. Before he could stop himself, he helped her prepare for her supposed journey.
"Are you about to head out?" he asked her as he checked her ration of food and water. Though it wasn't a long ride as she stated, he knew he had to prepare them for her, at least.
"Hmm. I have to do it early before the enemies could even have a heads up on the plan. Though I'm sure they had no idea about my flute and what it could do, it's better that I head there first and retrieve it. We will have a great advantage in our battle if I get to use it," Amy explained, only watching Edmund help her.
He didn't say anything after that, only because he couldn't voice out the words that he wanted to say to her. Damn it! He shouldn't be like this. And yet --
"Are you worried? About me?"
That question prompted Edmund to stop what he was doing and took a deep breath before facing Amy. He only looked at her for a short while before approaching her closer. "If I tell you I am, what will you do about it?"
Without a doubt, the way he asked another question -- in addition to the confession -- made Amy's eyes open wide. But if one would ask him, even he didn't expect himself to blurt it out like that. And yet, he still chose to hold his ground, wanting to know how Amy would answer that.
She was just looking at him, though. Her eyes were still opened wide. Not long after, she averted her gaze and took a deep breath before facing him once again. "Edmund... You know that... even if you're worried for my safety, I have to do this. I have to retrieve that flute that would help us win this war. But... maybe this would dissipate your worries a little."
Before Edmund could even ask Amy what she meant, he soon found himself being closer than ever to the Dawn Queen. Her arms circled his waist and her head on his chest. This time, it was his turn to have his eyes opened wide because of shock. And yet, it didn't last long.
The warmth that enveloped him because of her innocent embrace seemed to be doing its own magic to calm him down and reassure him. Before he knew it, he was smiling as his nose caught the sweet scent of Amy's hair. He soon found himself returning her embrace and he did so tightly.
None of them knew how long they held each other like that. But they both knew that the hug they shared did its magic for the two of them. When they released each other, they were smiling, and Amy soon held out her hand to touch his face. Obviously, the action startled Edmund a little but he just let her do what she wanted. That touch was meant to convey something to him. And her eyes as she looked at him had told him what it was.
Before he could hear anything from her, Amy smiled. "I'll be alright. Don't worry. Focus on making sure that Peter doesn't go overboard again. And I promise to you. I'll come back safe and sound."
Edmund could only look at her even after she said those words. But even from there, he knew she was telling the truth. That she'd be okay, she'd be safe.
Even when it was obvious that they didn't want to let each other go, Edmund released his hold on Amy's hands and assisted her in mounting the horse that he helped prepare. With understanding smiles on their faces, she soon urged the horse to move.
Of course, all the while, he could only look at her figure riding farther and farther away in such a short time before heaving a heavy sigh. He could only hope that Amy would be successful in her mission of retrieving the flute. This was for the war that they had to face, after all. A war that could help them achieve the peace for their beloved Narnia.
"Are you alright, Ed?"
That question coming from Peter appearing behind him only made him turn to look at his older brother. Then he turned his head back to look at the direction that Amy headed to.
"There's no reason I shouldn't be. I have to believe that Amy can do this to help us win the war." After that, he faced Peter, his eyes full of determination. "Let's go. You should prepare, as well."
"She really did a lot to change you, huh?"
Edmund turned to his brother as soon as he heard that comment. He looked at him with a frown. "Is it that obvious?"
Peter nodded and tapped Edmund's shoulder. "It looked like you noticed it, as well, huh?"
"I know myself, that's why. It was confusing, at first. But I could tell how much her presence had impacted me ever since I met her here." He soon faced Peter. "Right now, I'll just have to worry about you and your duel with King Miraz. And I know that's what Amy would want to happen, as well."
And so, the fated duel began, regardless of the worry that filled Edmund's heart for the young woman now out on a different mission for the sake of stopping the war.

Hi! Where'd you get your doctorate in rhetoric and theology?
I learned everything that I know about theology and rhetoric from today’s sponsor: Skillshare! Click the link below to receive a 4% discount on your first 5 classes- nah, I’m just pulling your leg there anonymous asker. However this meme of an answer leads into today’s lecture. For anyone wanting to know about how I acquired my doctorates and can’t bother with learning, feel free to scroll down this post and start at the section labeled ‘Story Time’.
General Studies 324:
On Degrees and Knowledge
For everyone else, thank you for your patience in waiting for this lecture. Things have been picking up a bit in my day job, and I recently got motivation to output some writing sessions. They were really rough works, but every work starts out that way. Nevertheless, you all now have my undivided, over obsessive attention. So grab your choice of note taking materials.
Now doctorates take a few years with a university or similar form of higher education. On average, most people take four additional years of schooling after the standard four years of typical college. Now some individuals can cut the time frame by a year, however it’s still a hefty time to spend in school. It also takes a significant amount of money to pay the tuition fees for all that time, as well as other expenses such as books and student activity fees.
Unless one plans to become either a theology professor or work alongside historians and archaeologists on sites, a theology major isn’t worth pursuing from a practical standpoint. I dare say that even if someone was fortunate enough to be the be of the few to land such a job in field that don’t have a high demand of applicants needed, one could still make an argument to not pursue such. Additionally, I feel that it’s safe to assume that a general theology degree from nonreligious-based colleges requires students to explore religious beliefs that differ from their own. Plenty of community churches will offer decently paid positions despite educational background. In regards to a rhetoric degree, I also believe that such a degree limited to positions where the salary might not reflect the time commitment.
To answer your the original question truthfully, I didn’t get a doctorate in either of those subjects. I come from a humble family who didn’t have the income to pay for college in full. In order for my siblings and I to attend college, we had to take advantage of scholarships, and I was the only child who was able to hold onto scholarships long enough to make it through the full term of a diploma. Looking back on the time, I should consider myself fortunate to have received my four-year bachelor’s degree without having to go into student debt. However, I was only able to take a major and a minor. Looking forward to the future and considering that neither avenue of study really resonates with my personality, I disregarded pursuing either theology or rhetoric degrees.
(Gasp) But Mr. Scribe, you gave the answer to the asked question and we’re nowhere near the bottom of the post.
Yes, student-who-states-the-obvious, that’s correct. Anyone who decided to just skip to the bottom is reading my super rough self-insert fic. This is another lesson: there’s a substantial difference in knowledge that is bestowed and knowledge that is earned. To take the recollection of solely one source runs the inherent risk of receiving misinformation. It’s the same reason why you shouldn’t take the blogging of a tumblr user who identifies as a nun in her profile as truth, especially if her blogs lack scripture reference. The primary goal of education isn’t to force as much knowledge into a brain as possible. The primary goal of education is to develop open-mindedness, self-research, problem-solving, and healthy cognitive development. To phrase it simpler; it not learning the facts, it’s about understanding how to gain information and think on your own. People don’t need diploma to know things; diplomas just act as a social construct of recognition certificates.
Now, if you’re really dedicated to pursuing a career in theology, I believe that it would be in your best interest to ask a respected leader of a nearby religious community in a public setting or the equivalent of an expert in the rhetorical sphere; a speech writer for political candidates would be my first suggestion. However, why go into student debt to here how some guy lecture about religion when you could walk into a public church/temple and listen to a sermon for free? Why, if an individual would travel to a well-off Protestant church and inquire about where they could buy a Bible, the church would just give them one. The book app on my phone offers free downloads of the Bible. I can google Bible verses off of context alone and get Bible gateway to provide the exact verse that I need.
Mr. Scribe, you don’t have the ability to apply the scriptures in your teaching! 😡
Why not? The Bible is the most distributed piece of literature out there. When the printing press made its way west to the states, the sole purpose of sending them out by the dozens was to print a mass-ton of bibles. (Berthold, Arthur Benedict (1970), American colonial printing as determined by contemporary cultural forces, 1639-1763,) We have had centuries to perfect the translation of of the Bible to the point where kid shows can feature Bibleman and Larryboy. Mistranslation shouldn’t be an issue. So why is it that some people suggest that a rhetoric doctorate is needed?
Let me answer that rhetorical question: it’s because some people do not want their ideas and beliefs contradict. Therefore, they say that in order for anyone to speak on their beliefs, they either have to go through financial strain to earn a piece of paper, or conform to their beliefs and abandon free thinking. If someone were to ask me what the major difference is between a religious organization and a cult, my response would be that cults don’t have a NAICS code to identify them… so a fair amount of them end up using the NAICS code of religious organizations. If someone is suggesting that you’re reading scripture in the wrong mindset, then I believe that it’s safe to reason that they are attempting to narrow the view to solely fit the prerogative of their group.
Story Time:
To answer the original question of where I received the two doctorates, I would require clarification. If one is asking what was the physical location that I was present in when I received those papers, then my answer would be that I received my rhetoric doctorate in the McKenzie Theater of Eastern Oregon University in December of 2008, then I received my theology doctorate in the mess hall of an undisclosed military institution in late February of 2011. If the question pertained to from which institution did my doctorates originated from, then my rhetoric doctorate originated from the University of London, and my theology doctorate originated from Princeton University.
Now, an observant reader can clearly see that the places of origin deviate greatly from where I receive them. Your suspicion are valid because I received each doctorate through non conventional means and events.
Rhetoric
I was beginning my college career at Eastern Oregon University when my mandated English class had required me to write a ten page nonfictional narrative. I chose to write “Guinea Pig Passing,” a recollection of how each family member dealt with the final days of our pet Guinea Pig named Bullwinkle. At the time, I felt like it wasn’t the most creative concept, but my mind was more focused on the university’s theatrical production of a staged “Pride and Prejudice”.
The due date approached come late October and I’m struggling to stay focused after proofreading the night before, dealing with La Grande and finding a parking place. I’m making my way to Loso Hall with eyes drooping when I stumble into an old white man decked in Doctor Who-like attire . We both drop our papers and he begins to complain in an English accent so thick, he could have stopped bullets with a cry for “Tea Time”. We take our papers and quickly stride away from each other.
If you guessed that we ended up swapping papers, then congratulations, you get a cookie 🍪.
I realized the switch-a-roo before turning in sketches of Victorian clothing, rushed to a computer lab to print out whatever version I had on my thumb drive, and came in late to class to turn in the assignment.
I fretted about the assignment being turned in under a draft different than the final all the way to rehearsal when, lo-and-behold, doctor who-needs-to-crack-a-smile is talking with the director until he catches a glimpse of me. I’m expecting the worst yet am taken aback when he approaches me with tears in eyes. He holds my assignment as if he was Oliver begging for more and asks me if I wrote it. I get two confused nods in before he brings me into a hug and I get a unhealthy whiff of expensive cigars.
So… it turn out that I bumped into Professor James Martin of the University of London who ventured overseas to aid or production while taking in the sights of Portland. He’s a nice guy once you get the chance to not bumble into him. He liked my nonfictional essay (said something about how it reminded him of Bill Faulkreath’s ‘As I Lay Crying’ or something) and we talked a bit about Darcy. I thought he would slap me for saying how Darcy seemed less of a character and more of a plot device and end goal for the leading lady, Elizabeth. However, he appreciated the fresh take. I showed him around Portland; good times.
So I ended up getting a A on the assignment because that professor was a real one, passed Tabatha’s class with a B, then get called in by the Dean who sat me down to tell me that ‘Guinea Pig Passing’ was submitted to the University of London’s Distinguished works of Rhetoric to obtain the highest honor. Then they held a ceremony in McKenzie Theater where I was bestowed an honorary doctorate in rhetorics.
Theology:
For the story of how I got my theology doctorate, your going to want to lie down.
It’s October 2010 and I’m feeling melancholic. Two years passed and I’m feeling the pointless of striving for purpose. Emptied of care, I went to the my fall freshman language professor, Miss Swanson, because she was one of the few people who didn’t hold me up in high regards. Miss Swanson told me that maybe I would find interest in a humanities project, but said humanities really weirdly. There was a two-second pause before she dragged out ‘huuuuumaaanities’ like Disney drags out a purchased franchise across their money grater. Luckily, I didn’t pick up on his hesitation and agreed on the grounds that I had nothing to lose.
October 28th rolls around and I’m sitting in a room with professors galore thinking that this isn’t how most students spend a Friday evening.
Rihon: Are you sure it’s okay that I’m sitting in this meeting? I’m the only student here.
Miss Swanson: You have a Rhetorics Doctorate.
Rihon: Cool. Where’s the Sociology doctor who wrote his dissertation on a cop running over his black Labrador?
Fellow bloggers, I don’t know how to put it other than bluntly. The entire staff of Eastern Oregon University gathered together to try and prevent the end of America.
Miss Swanson explained to me how Native Americans cursed the early European colonizers to rid them off of the land. However they believed it to be a myth because they couldn’t line up the dates with the stars in the sky on a palindrome day.
Rihon: What, like, ‘be wary, be wary, of the eleventh of February?’
Miss Swanson: No. It would be Remember, remember, the second of November.’
Rihon: Sorry. Must have been Martin talking.
Miss Swanson: What do you mean?
Rihon: Well, he tended to list dates by the day, then month, then year. The way he explained it actually made so much more sense.
I hope none of you ever have to see a professor look like they just shit their drawers.
First, Miss Swanson made that face, then she wanders over to the Dean who makes the face, then they announce that they may have been looking at the date wrong, letting the entire staff make that face.
Rihon: Sooo… score one for the millennials?
Miss Swanson: We could all die.
Rihon: You’re just jealous.
With the time to prepare cut in half, plans were made for a group of professors to head to the first settlement of what would come to be the United States. When talk came about that they wished they could send more aid, I did the only logical thing I could of. I went to DisneyWorld.
Disney has this college program where college students work the park. I score a role as Goofy/Prince Eric, made a few friends, and waited until February to surprise my professors.
Rihon: Heyyyy. Guess who’s gonna help you save the worldddd?
Miss Swanson: You’re coming to Jamestown???
Rihon: Jamestown?
Swanson: Don’t play dumb. Jamestown Virginia settled by the English permanently in 1607.
Rihon: you’re joking, right?
Miss Swanson: maybe you should stay in your history class.
Rihon: the one that says St. Augustine was settled by the Spaniards in 1565?
(Longest pause ever)
Rihon: Score two for millennials?
Miss Swanson: Not the time.
So the U.S. has a week expiration date and the team of faculty members are states way, leaving the world ending crisis to 20-year-old me; and the merry band of Disney Team Members who joined me in my excavation to St. Augustine. I’m glad they tag along as it helped me delegate the mental workload and allow us to figure out that the cursed site laid in Castillo de San Marcos. Making the most of what could have been our last days, we waited until that fateful Friday to stop the curse.
Now if anyone was expecting the final boss battle to be against Sitting Bull and their spirit totem pole amalgamation monster, then you’ll be as surprised as we were when I tell you that they were mere pawns and means to ends. The true mastermind was a Hollywood-gorgeous-white-man who would have looked all the prettier if he didn’t scowl at the time. Then again, he made it pretty clear that he loathed the fact that we dared attempted to stop him. Fast forward a monologue of contempt, I try to get him to spill the beans on why he’s doing what he’s doing and how to stop it.
Then Pretty-Psycho took out a scroll and sent dark magic towards Auburn, the girl who played Ariel beside me. I shielded her from this reality defying magic, and then I died.
Are you being serious, Rihon?
Yes and no. Time rifts are a tricky thing, which is why I advise against using dark magic if it’s not completely understood. A human body isn’t able to travel through raw tear in the timeline, but a soul departs from the body and the timeline entirely. So, I died in the sense that my soul departed from my body, but… well, there’s a reason why the world didn’t end back in 2011.
I was a bodiless entity existing out of the newly torn timeline. Time itself was laid out for me to where I could observe present past and two possible futures, one of doom and the one we know as our present (so… a more subtle doom.) It became evident that in order to achieve the lesser of two evils, I had to return to by body within a small window of when my soul departed it before my brain processes the loss of blood flow. Yet since I existed outside of time, I had about 30% of forever to figure out how to go back to that moment. So I decided to drift back in time and search for a way back home.
To sum up a timeless story, I learned secret truths of life, existence, and the construct of reality while floating around as a soul. One of those secrets truths: the origin of our known universe. Along with that, I learned how to return to my body at the time tear and defeat the Adondeath, the true name of Pretty-Pyscho.
After the Disney gang and I prevented the end of the world, we were arrested by the military along with the Native American minion and Adondeath. Even with the staff members of Eastern Oregon University coming to speak in my defense, it takes the better part of two weeks for the military to truly understand what had happened. Around day three, I had the pleasure to meet… well, more like be interrogated and psychoanalyzed by… many professors who were experts in their field yet had the availability to aid the military. One of them was Eddie Glaude Jr.: the William S. Tod Professor of Religion and African American Studies and chair of the Department of African American Studies at Princeton University. Mr. Glaude asked me about boring specifics about the spiritual aspects of the dark ritual to which I had to explain them in relationship of the understanding of religious beliefs to a T. Having aced an oral exam of incalculable magnitude. Mr. Glaude spent a week to let his brain recover before he and every other external professor told the military that I was honest and sane… given the circumstances.
The Disney crew gets medals of heroism, yet we are sworn to secrecy to not let the general public know, and return to finish our internships at DisneyWorld before having come to the realization that our lives cap at meaningful experiences before we reached the legal drinking age. Oh and Mr. Glaude gifted me a doctorate of theology.
Lecture Wrap Up:
Alright class. That’s enough of my rants and recollections for a while.
For extra credit: find a grammatical error in today’s lecture, submit a new lecture topic in my inquiry box, or list out something that you learned today. No due date for these bonus points.

Jody Benson Sharp  Knowledge Is Power, And These Lead Generation Tips Are Priceless
Jody Benson Sharp Professional tips provider. To succeed with your business, you need to know what makes customers come your way. The simplest way to find customers is by understanding how lead generation works. In addition to generating leads, you must be able to convert those leads into buyers. Keep reading to learn techniques on how to acquire these leads.
Make sure your landing page is ready for visitors before you generate a lot of promising leads. Your landing page needs to contain all relevant information and options to buy or download. If your landing page is constructed well, you will have a much greater chance of converting your leads into sales.
To generate the most promising leads for your business, your website needs very clear instructions for the visitor. Make your offer stand out from all other content on the page and make sure it's easy to understand. The visitor should have no problem identifying your offer and knowing how to get in on it quickly.
Incorporate social media into your efforts to generate more leads, and you will be more successful. Many people do all of their browsing through social media sites these days, so that's where your business needs to be. Cover the major platforms with great offers specifically targeted to your potential customers and watch the leads come in!
Buying incentives can be valuable in lead generation. You providing customers with incentives they need generates sales immediately. Give them an extra reason to take you up on your offer and you will generate many more leads.
Create engaging content. Lead generation relies a lot on building trust with your product or service. Smart targeted content does a lot to help get you there. Your target audience will be more likely to do business with you if they feel you are providing great service and that you legitimately care.
Look into opportunities where you may be able to pay for leads. Paying for leads is not a bad thing at all. In fact there are many companies out there that can deliver you leads at a surprisingly low cost. Just do your homework before signing up with anyone. There are scams out there.
Make sure you take care of opt-out and privacy issues. Be certain you stay mindful of leads that chose against receiving your offers and incentives. Do not waste time on those who are not purchasing.
Jody Benson Sharp Qualified tips provider. Open up your business to the world. There are events such as Doors Open at which businesses allow customers to come in and see how they work. Even if you're an architect or real estate agent, you can let potential customers in to see how organized and authentic you really are, which can generate leads.
Avoid overkill in your information gathering. Many leads will be happy to supply basic information. However, with each data field that your potential lead needs to fill, their desire to continue wanes. Gather the basics that will be necessary to qualify the lead without pushing for every bit of information you can gather.
Consider local garage sales if your business is focused locally. For example, if you run a garage you could host a table at a neighborhood sale selling tools or first aid kits. You can let people know about how honest and reliable you are face to face, increasing your reputation and generating leads.
If you have not been tapping into the power of social media enough, then it's time to expand your efforts. There are cost efficient social media campaigns you can run on the most popular sites, and ways to really make content go viral. All of your customer base is there to help you share what you can do for your new customers.
Many people forget about LinkedIn when it comes to networking and lead generation. They focus more on other social media sites. But, if you knew that conversion rates were much better within LinkedIn networks that have been formulated, you wouldn't be waiting to use this service. Utilize LinkedIn to help you get new leads!
Jody Benson Sharp Expert tips provider. Hold a party for your best sources of referrals. Make it worth their while to show up by providing great food, drinks and entertainment. If you show them you appreciate their help, they'll continue to bring you leads and you'll all end up better off for the arrangement between you.
Stop trying to butter customers up! When you need to generate more leads, use a direct approach with them, because chances are good that neither you nor they have a lot of time for small talk and schmoozing. Get to your point, offer a great price for clicking the "buy now" icon and get better results.
Remember that people respect honesty more than hype, so when you try to generate more leads, leave an open and honest offer on the table. Adding bells and whistles just makes you look like a generic salesperson who will do whatever it takes to get people to buy. Generate leads with a quality presentation and you gain permanent customers instead.
Customer referrals are one thing, and a referral program can definitely work. But, take things a step further by asking your customer base to provide testimonials. This can really work out for you, as people read through these reviews often to determine if they want to do business with a company.
Never overlook or underestimate a lead source. You will have many avenues for gathering leads such as buying or self-gathering or even word-of-mouth. Always look at each avenue for validity. Buying leads can be a great way to jump start your efforts, but they may not be the same quality leads you gain from a targeted effort.
Test out new avenues before you go in whole hog. You don't want to end up investing a lot of time and money and yet get nothing in return. Run a test of each new strategy you have and carefully monitor your results, then jump in when the testing reveals success.
Jody Benson Sharp Most excellent service provider. Reviewing this article will demonstrate the key nature of lead generation. It's more than getting leads, but those that are truly worthwhile. Now that you know how to get good leads, you can become an expert.

Crafting the Empathy Map: Knowing the Customers Better
"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing." -Helen Keller
Hey there, we're back again! We talked about our journey on the outside-of-the-classroom customer discovery during our first blog, so in this moment we will be sharing with you the unforgettable adventures that my team was able to acquire after our venture proposal presentation to our empathy map construction journey.
To begin with, our instructor, Ma'am Lovely L. Tecson, provided us with 2 steps we can take after the presentation of our venture proposal;(1)to either completely change the whole concept of our business proposal and submit a new one or (2) to settle with our chosen problem and just change our solution or target market or the plans on how we can earn, in short, just a minimal revision/change. It was an easy choice considering that we are all confident in pursuing our chosen field of venture from the beginning and we had no plans of surrendering what we have already started, so we chose step 2 and decided to start on changing our business proposal title as recommended by our instructor.
This has been the most difficult part we have encountered so far - choosing a business title that is catchy enough to pique the interest of our target market. It is quite hard that it took us a long time to contemplate what to name it. We honestly came up with a suitable business title on a last minute pretext as we had no choice because we're running out of time. After giving it a lot of thought, our team finally agreed on a particular title during our allotted time of discussion from our vacant time, "InkPrint VendoPro".
Tumblr media
We formulated the following hypothesis:
1. A lot of students struggle with the distance in printing their lesson materials.
2. There's a struggle with technical aspects of setting up and configuring printers (compatibility issues, driver installations, connectivity problems).
3. The inconvenience of having to go through long queues of other customers that are also printing their documents.
The next step we had to do was to construct our empathy map using Dave Gray's Customer Empathy Map Guide, and of course we had to conduct another wave of interviews so as to know more and understand our customers better. In this situation, we can say that we are quite prepared considering that we have a clear goal and a specific topic or product in mind which makes it easier for us to construct a particular interview questions that are fit for our chosen interviewees. What we have to do is to validate our hypothesis or to consider the opinions and ideas from potential customers.
Tumblr media
As per our Instructor's guidance, we used the 'Customer Empathy Map' as a guide in knowing more about our potential customers and it enabled us to imagine what a specific person is thinking, feeling, hearing, and seeing as they use printing services or anything related to our product. So the team then gathered together in order to share our own individual thoughts and brainstorm about our plans and strategies on constructing our answers.
Tumblr media
The following are the Goals of our Empathy Map Canvas:
1. Who are we empathizing with?
We are empathizing with those students whose colleges are far from the printing services providers. Specifically, the College of Environmental Science, College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Business and Management, and College of Arts and Sciences. We aim to gain a deeper understanding of the customers' behavior, experiences, and perspectives towards printing.
2. What do they need to do?
They need to look for a nearby printing station where they can personally print their documents while ensuring the accuracy of their desired output such as paper size, orientation, and if it is colored or not.
3. What do they see?
They have seen that the university printing services in the market are having a hard time accommodating their customers due to the long queue of students who aim to print their documents. The method used in transferring files/documents is bluetooth, as a result, they often see other students who get to be the last to finish whenever they have troubles connecting to the PC even if they arrive earlier than the others because the operator accommodates those who sent their files first. They also noticed that a lot of students prefer to print their learning materials as it is time-consuming to write their lessons by themselves.
4. What do they say?
Based on their experience, students struggle with the technical aspects of setting up and configuring printers. Compatibility issues and connectivity problems can be time-consuming and frustrating. And there will be instances wherein the owner can't apply the first come first serve basis. Some students say that it was frustrating especially when they had to walk miles just to reach the printing station (some college buildings are quite far from the university market) only to find out that the line was too long.
5. What do they do?
The frequency in which customers print their documents depends on the season/occasion, mostly before or during the term exams.
They might opt for other alternative printing stations once they notice even the slightest error with the printing services and then tend to choose the printing shops where they can be able to save resources such as time and money. However, some are willing to sacrifice time if the document is urgently needed.
6. What do they hear?
Most customer's sources of information are word-of-mouth from classmates or colleagues. Especially in the type of accommodation provided on whether the operator is friendly or strict. Their preferences to printing depends on the rumors as to how crowded and long the line is most of the time, the biases to priorities in printing, the quality of operator services, and the overall printing quality performance.
7. What do they think and feel?
|PAINS|:
There is an unpleasant feeling of poor accommodation and prioritization, the unethical approach to customers, distorted quality or mistakes in printing (e.g., paper size, colors) and the overall printing quality (paper and ink).
The following are some opinions we have gathered through conducting interviews.
~ It's painful when you notice that some ink was spilled through the documents but you can't complain thinking that it's kinda embarrassing.
~ When you're in a hurry and need to pass your documents urgently but the printer malfunctions or there's a sudden occurrence of electrical interruptions.
|GAINS|:
• The service provides all of the customers an equal opportunity in regards to printing, and first come first serve basis must be manifested. There should be an accuracy of output such that the orientation of the documents and the paper size should be accurate. They want a convenient and smooth printing experience, proper attention and accommodation, and affordable pricing and discounts especially if they print their documents in bulk.
INDIVIDUAL INSIGHTS/LEARNINGS:
The process of finding the right business venture is both time-consuming and draining. Just when you thought you had the "perfect" business plan, a problem/conflict occurs. It is indeed not easy finding the perfect business idea that will provide and accommodate the needs of your target market.
Our journey as aspiring entrepreneurs has not been easy. We made some minimal revisions, yes, but the impact of those revisions was huge. It shaped what should be our focus in finalizing our venture. Customer discovery is crucial to ensure the profitability of a business. This is the phase where you explore what the people think towards the product or service related to what you are planning to introduce. This will help you in customizing your services that will surely reach the needs of your prospective customers.
After our second wave of interviews, we realized points that were essential for our venture from the answers of our respondents. We were able to complete another phase of our journey and we are surely ready for the next one.

EMPHATY MAPPING: UNDERSTANDING CUSTOMERS BETTER
INKPRINT VENDOPRO
2ND BLOG/JOURNAL
"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing." - a quote by Helen Keller
Hey there, we're back again! We talked about our journey on  the outside-of-the- classroom customer discovery during our first blog, so in this moment we will be sharing with you the unforgettable adventures that my team was able to acquire after our venture proposal presentation to our empathy map construction journey.
A lot of students struggle with the distance in printing their lesson materials.
There's a struggle with technical aspects of setting up and configuring printers (compatibility issues, driver installations, connectivity problems).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As per our Instructor's guidance, we used the 'Customer Empathy Map' as a guide in knowing more about our potential customers and it enabled us to imagine what a specific person is thinking, feeling, hearing, and seeing as they use printing services or anything related to our product. So the team then gathered together in order to share our own individual thoughts and brainstorm about our plans and strategies on constructing our answers.

{Empathy Mapping Guide developed by Dave Gray.}

INDIVIDUAL INSIGHTS/LEARNING
I learned that when proposing a business or product, you should first know your target market. As we conduct interviews for our emphatic map, it strengthens the need for our product to be known in the market. The activity of emphaty mapping opens our eyes to more possibilities that our product will be a big help to students. You need to take risks when introducing products to the market; you need to be wise and knowledgeable.

Conducting interviews with a diversity of people enabled us to strengthen our confidence and gave us more opportunity to interact with other students. Through this, I learned that there is a significant difference between working alone and working together in a team. I realized that there are actually a lot of things that I can't possibly do with only my hard work alone, especially when faced with circumstances that might put me under pressure. The construction of our empathy map introduced us to the negative and positive opinions of our potential customers that might greatly affect our future plans for our upcoming Business Model Canvas presentation and enabled us to look at their perspectives, thus allowing us to understand them better. But the most important lesson that I was able to acquire during these past weeks while working on our business venture was that asking for other people's opinions creates a lot of advantages for us, as researchers, as it gives us a broader point of view and enlightens us with things that we couldn't normally see or notice in our surroundings. To sum it up, this type of activity/project that was given to us is very essential, not only in academics but most especially for our personal plans in the future.
