Kidnapped II
Fridolina Rolfö x Baby!Reader
Summary: You're sick
Tumblr media
The league win is tonight.
Or, rather, the presentation of the trophy is tonight and Frido's excited. It should be a fairly easy win for the team so that combined with the trophy lift is going to make this day amazing.
It falls just short of perfect because you've fallen ill.
Frido's parents arrived nearly two days ago and, while you were perfectly fine on the plane, you're now a bit wheezy with a sore throat and a cough that just won't seem to go away.
"Älskling," She coos, bouncing you around as she gets ready to leave," You sound so bad."
You've been up most of the night coughing and Frido stayed up in solidarity, allowing her parents some sleep while she cared for you.
You cough again, as if to prove that you are feeling incredibly bad.
She measures out some medicine. Most of the team thought it was a little silly for her to be stocked up on kid's medicine when the only kid she hung out with was Cub but Frido had wanted to be prepared for if you got sick during any of your visits.
She'd be smug about it if it didn't mean that you were feeling terribly icky today.
She sways you softly as she squirts the medicine from the syringe down your throat.
"I know," She coos," Yucky, huh? I'll give this away to Mapi and Ingrid and find you some nice-tasting stuff for next time."
You whine a little and drop your head against Frido's collarbone. She keeps rocking you, rubbing your back softly as she lays kisses on top of your head.
"I'm going to call in," Frido says when her parents finally join the two of you in the kitchen," It's a fairly easy match. I won't be needed."
"Trophy is presented today," Her father replies gruffly," You can't miss that."
"Älskling is sick," Frido insists," I don't want to leave her. She needs me."
"You're not her mother," He says," You can't just pause your world because the little one is sick. Go to your match. Your mother and I will decide what to do with her. One of us will be there."
Frido puffs out her cheeks just like you do when you're annoyed. "I can stay!" She insists," She needs cuddles!"
"Cuddles that we are more than capable of giving her," Her father reminds her.
"Not sister cuddles!"
Her father laughs a little bit with an eye roll, taking you from Frido and soothing you easily when you whine against his chest.
"You know, I thought we left this petulance behind when you became an adult."
"I'm not petulant."
"Sure you're not.
Frido stamps her foot. "I'm not!"
Her father keeps laughing. "You're thirty years old and you're still stamping your foot? You're showing your baby sister a bad example."
The rumble of laughter from your father's chest has you let out your own raspy giggle that has Frido beaming at you.
"I'm staying here," Frido insists," Just to watch her a bit. It could get worse, you know."
"We raised you," Her father replies, adjusting you on his hip and bouncing slightly to help you settle," I think we know all about sickly children. She's much more well-behaved than you ever were."
"But-"
"Fridolina," He says, pulling out the full name and essentially silencing Frido with one word," If I have to drag you into that stadium by your ear then so help me I will. Your sister is capable of watching you on the tv no matter how sick she is."
Frido knows her father very well so the threat isn't empty.
She is going to the pitch even if he has to drag her there himself. It doesn't mean she has to be happy about it though.
Actually, Frido decides that she's not going to be happy at all even if the trophy is being lifted tonight. She forces herself to keep a frown on her face even when she listens to Ingrid complain about the two ginger cats that have now taken over her house.
Frido refuses to let herself be happy after being forced out of her own house while you're still wheezy and coughing.
"You can smile, you know," Mapi says," It won't break your face or anything."
"I'm proving a point," Frido replies," I am letting my parents know I'm not happy with this situation."
"Are you twelve? Because this is super childish."
Frido ignores her.
"Is this what I have to look forward to? God, I hope Cub never grows up."
"It's the principal of the matter," Frido says," My parents will understand."
It's difficult to keep the frown on her face when the team go seven nil up by the end of the match but if there's one thing Frido is, it's stubborn and she refuses to act like she's enjoying herself when you're sick in her home.
The trophy is brought out while the team celebrates and Frido gets up to join them before there's a familiar call of her name.
It's her mother's voice and Frido now knows it's her father who stayed home to look at you.
Good.
Because Frido isn't quite sure how she would react to seeing him here after her forced her to come without you.
Only...
You're being dangled over the railing to her, looking much happier and perkier than before.
"Look who decided to get over her little cold to see her sister win the league."
Frido grabs you and you clumsily fall onto her chest, giving her a big wet kiss on her neck.
She laughs. "Thank you, Älskling!"
You screech something unintelligible and Frido nods.
"I love you too!"

summary: luke knows he messed up
word count: 3.6k
pairing: luke hughes x reader
notes: this was kinda requested on my main blog but i put all my writing on this blog. whoever sent in the request, thank you i hope this was okay [part one here]
can you write how you'd think luke would react to reader while in a heated argument, like what would he do? would he argue back or just let you finish
masterlist
the moment y/n walked out of the apartment, luke knew he had fucked up. he never should've went to the bar and he never should've brought another girl home. especially not when the girl he wanted since he was 12 was right across the hall.
it was a stupid move on his part. and one that jack never let him forget.
y/n and luke had been best friends since they were younger but jack always viewed her as a sister. he needed her as much as she needed him and the fact that it was luke that drove her away had increased his anger.
"you've gotta be the biggest idiot i know. and i've met some doozies." jack just shook his head when luke told him. "how could you not see she loved you, luke? and not just platonically either. she thought so much more of you."
"i had no idea she loved me, jack. and trust me. if i had known, i would've told her that i love her too. she's my best friend and i need her. i know i'm an idiot but that doesn't mean i need to be reminded every 5 minutes." he checked his phone, hoping for a text or a missed call from y/n but he got nothing. he slide his phone back in his pocket and looked at his brother. "where is she staying?"
"she informed me not to tell you until she's done being mad. she doesn't want you showing up and making her feel worse. give her some time."
"okay." was all he said before retreating back to his room.
jack sighed, walked back to his own apartment and called y/n. when she picked up, jack noticed how red her eyes were.
"hey. how are you doing?"
"i've been crying all night over something as stupid as a fight with my best friend. i feel like an idiot."
"no, don't. you loved him and it was more than just a fight with your best friend. he broke your heart. you're allowed to cry."
"thanks, jack. i really appreciate you. glad i didn't lose you in this little 'divorce' between me and your brother."
"you may have been his best friend first but you're my best friend too. i will never leave. you're stuck with me for life, sweetheart."
"stop it or i'm going to actually smile."
"you know you want to." jack smirked and when he saw her giggle a little, he threw his hand up in the air in success. "yes. i love that."
"screw you. i was trying to be mad and upset."
"well sorry for killing the mood." jack chuckled.
"you didn't tell him where i was staying, did you?"
"absolutely not. you asked me not to."
"and i appreciate it, jack. you're the best and very obviously my favorite of the hughes brothers."
"i always knew i was." he smirked smugly and watched a smile appear on her face. “there’s that beautiful smile we love so much.”
“thanks, jack. you don’t even understand how much you mean to me right now.”
“i love you, y/n.” he smiled. “and luke does too. only his love is different than mine.”
“what are you talking about?”
“luke may be an idiot but he’s an idiot who’s in love. trust me on this. and if you love him too, which i know you do, you'll talk to him."
"maybe when i take some well needed time away from him." she sighed. "he doesn't deserve my presence in his life right now. not when he always puts me at the back of his mind."
"i don't blame you for being upset since you're always focused on him and making sure he's okay and taken care of. he should appreciate you more."
"try to tell him that."
"i have tried. he agrees he's an idiot and told me he didn't need to be constantly reminded of it."
"well at least he knows." y/n sighed on her end of the phone and looked off camera. "i'm gonna let you go. gotta get ready for work."
"alright. have fun. and only think about happy thoughts."
"thanks, jack." y/n smiled and hung up the phone. she looked around the room she was staying in and sighed. it wasn't her own room and it made her heart break a little bit more. she wanted nothing more than to go home but she knew it was impossible to do so with luke failing to realize what he had been doing.
before she got any deeper into thought, there was a knock on her door. she got up slowly and opened it, revealing a smiling john on the other side.
"hey. i wasn't sure what food you liked so i brought a bunch of stuff back for you."
"you didn't have to do that, john. but i appreciate it." y/n smiled and followed him to the kitchen. her eyes landed on the bags on the counter and she looked over at john. "okay, you really didn't have to do this."
"i know. but jack asked me to get you anything you needed so that's what i did. i figured you would need food but i wasn't sure which one you would be craving."
"well, i like all of this food. but for future reference, burgers are always a great choice for me." y/n smiled and grabbed the mcdonald's bag. "thanks again for letting me stay. i promise i'll be out of here as soon as i can find somewhere to live."
"you're welcome to stay here for however long you need."
"is your whole team full of sweet men?"
"basically. there's one or two guys who aren't the nicest. but it also depends on who they're around." john smiled. "are you coming to the party tonight?"
"yeah. i probably should. just because i'm mad at luke, doesn't mean i can't be there for the rest of you guys, right?"
"exactly." he smiled and they headed towards their rooms. "we should walk in together. could get luke's attention."
'i'll think about it and let you know before the party."
“alright. cool.” john smiled and walked towards his room with his own bag of food. y/n sat at the counter and started eating. no matter how hard she tried to fight it, her mind kept finding its way back to luke. she started to think more about john’s offer and decided it would probably get luke’s attention.
“hey, john? you decent in there?”
“of course. come on in.”
y/n opened the door slowly and smiled when she saw john hyper focused on a video game. “i thought about your offer...to walk into the party together.”
“oh yeah. and?”
“i say why the hell not? it’ll definitely get luke’s attention and since you’ll be there with the hottest girl, i’m sure it’ll strike some jealousy in another girl or two.”
“i hadn’t even thought about that honestly. i was only thinking about what would be best for you.” he smiled. “but that’s actually a good idea.”
“i’m full of them.” y/n smirked and headed towards the guest room to get ready. and of course, she called jack to get his opinion on what would be the best outfit to catch luke’s attention.
“it’s always going to be that red crop top you own. he always loves that on you.”
“really? i never noticed.” y/n searched through her bag to find it but came up empty handed. “i think i left it back in the apartment.”
“either that or luke took it and hid it from you because he didn’t like the attention you got from other guys.”
“i love you jack, i really do. but i don’t believe anything you’re saying.” y/n looked through her bag one more time before sighing in defeat. “jack, can you do me a favor?”
“already on my way there.” jack chuckled, causing y/n to smile. he knew her so well. jack used his spare key to let himself in. “he’s not here but i’m gonna make this quick, just in case he shows up.”
y/n waited for jack to find her the desired top and when he did, she thanked him before setting her phone on her desk and began doing her makeup.
when jack came to drop off the top, he smiled at her sympathetically. y/n found it suspicious but she brushed it off and finished getting ready.
🌜⭐️🌛🌜⭐️🌛🌜⭐️🌛
she and john stood outside the building together an hour later. y/n was frozen in place and john placed his hand on her shoulder reassuringly.
“we don’t have to go in there if you don’t want to. hell, we don’t even have to go in together if that’ll make you feel better.”
“no. i want to do this.” she smiled and grabbed his hand, gently squeezing it. “thank you for doing this, marino.”
“anytime, kiddo.” he smiled back at her and they walked into the party together.
it didn’t take long before luke found her. and it certainly didn’t take long to see who she had arrived with.
his own teammate. a friend. someone he considered himself to be close to.
he watched as john whispered something in y/n’s ear, causing her to giggle. luke knew he shouldn't have been upset that she was smiling and he wasn't the cause of it, but he couldn't help it. he was an idiot in love.
after staring longer than he needed to, luke grabbed the nearest bottle and headed out the back door to be alone.
y/n glanced up just as luke was closing the door. her plan worked so why did she feel so bad?
"thanks for doing this for me, john. it's working."
"mhm. for both of us." he tipped his glass in the direction of the kitchen. a tall girl with red hair was waving at john and she was smiling.
"congrats, buddy. go talk to her."
"oh, i am." he smiled, downed his drink and headed over to the kitchen.
y/n watched her friend for a few seconds and once she was sure things were going good, she decided to head out the back door.
luke didn't have to look behind him to know exactly who it was when he heard the door shut softly.
"what are you doing out here all alone, luke?"
"you should know the answer to that."
"i do. but what i don't understand is why you're so mad right now. if anyone has the right to be mad, it's me." y/n leaned against the rail of the back porch, far from luke.
"why are you even here at the party? and why did you show up with marino?"
"well, for one, it's a party celebrating my friends. and two, john is just my-"
"do not say he's just your roommate."
"well he is."
"you've only been out of the apartment for less than 24 hours. how are you already settled on that decision? thought you would be back by now."
"there's a reason i'm leaving, luke."
"what's it going to take for you to come back home?"
"you know damn well why i can't, luke."
"you're gonna have to help me out. i'm a little drunk right now."
"you have no idea how it feels to love someone so much that all you do is keep them at the front of your mind. and you have no idea how it feels to have your heart ripped out by that same person because you find out they don't think of you the same way."
"elaborate."
"no, luke. i'm done with this conversation." y/n wipes her eyes and went to walk back to the house. before her hand wrapped around the knob, luke's found its way around her wrist, effectively pulling her back to face him.
"i'm sorry, okay? i'm sorry for everything. for being the worst roommate. the worst friend. the worst person alive. is that what you need to hear?"
"are you only saying that because you think it's what i want to hear or because you really mean it?"
"what's the difference?"
"oh my god. goodbye luke." y/n yanked her wrist from his grip and walked back into the house. she looked around the room for john and when she found him, he was dancing with the red haired girl from before.
he was enjoying himself so y/n thought it'd be best if she left him alone. instead, she looked around for jack. he was standing alone so she approached him.
"hey. are you enjoying the party?"
"no. and i want to go home but john is occupied so i can't ask him."
"yeah it's not often he gets a girl." jack chuckled. "i can drive you home if you want."
"but you've been drinking.'
"it's actually just a pepsi. i'm the designated driver tonight." jack glanced at her. "so, would you like a ride back to john's?"
"that would be great. thanks jack." y/n smiled
"no problem." jack returned the smile and they headed out to the car.
halfway through the drive, y/n turned to look at jack. "can i actually stay at your place tonight? there's a good chance john's gonna bring that girl home and i don't want to hear them."
"you know you don't even have to ask." jack smiled and changed course, heading to his apartment instead. the only downside to staying with jack for the night was that her own apartment with luke was just downstairs, meaning there was a good chance she'd run into him in the building.
🌜⭐️🌛🌜⭐️🌛🌜⭐️🌛
y/n was wide awake at 4am when the guest bedroom door opened. assuming it was jack, she opened her mouth, but before she could speak, she heard his voice.
"jack, are you awake? i really need to talk to someone."
y/n stiffened and pretended to be asleep when luke sat at the end of the bed. he must've thought this was jack's room.
"i messed up, jack. i really messed up. y/n is the most perfect person i've ever met and i let her down. i shouldn't have been such an asshole to her. man, i love her so much but how am i supposed to tell her when she's upset with me?" luke sniffled and shifted a little. "i don't know how to explain to her that she's always on my mind. always at the front of my mind. never the back of it. the other night was a mistake. and so was tonight. oh god. i wanted to kiss her when i saw her at the party. but she hates me and she would've rejected me immediately. how am i supposed to get over someone who means the absolute world to me? someone who i never ever stop thinking about. someone who i've loved since i was 12 years old. my favorite person in the whole world."
y/n looked at his back and watched as it shook slightly. she wanted to tell him that he wasn't talking to jack and that she forgave him, but the words weren't coming out.
"if you happen to talk to her, can you tell her please? i would do it but she really hates me so i'm gonna give her some space." luke stood up and headed for the door. "thanks, by the way. you're a really good brother."
y/n watched as luke closed the door and listened as he stumbled out of the apartment.
"oh god. what am i going to do now?" y/n rubbed her eyes and sat up straight. she climbed out of bed and went across the hall to jack's room. "jack, are you awake?"
"yeah. come in." jack was sitting up in bed, staring at his phone. when he saw y/n, he locked his phone and made room for her to climb in beside him. "what's keeping you up so late?"
"your brother just came into the room and poured his heart out to me, thinking it was you. i want to forgive him so bad but i don't know what to say to him."
"i love you both but the two of you really need to get over this thing. you both love each other, obviously. so even though he was a jerk to you, isn't it worth it if you truly love him?"
"it might be. but he was crying and i don't want to make him feel embarrassed by acknowledging that i heard him cry."
"you do what you have to do. i'm here for support either way, you know that."
"i do. and i appreciate it jack." y/n looked at her friend and smiled. "so, when are you gonna get a girlfriend?"
"shut up and go to bed." jack chuckled and hit her with a pillow. instead of heading back to the guest room, y/n fell asleep in jack's bed. it was not a new occurrence for either of them.
the next morning, y/n received a text from john, apologizing for ditching her and for what she might have heard coming from his room. she assured him it was fine and that she had stayed with jack last night, to which he was relieved.
y/n looked at the other side of the bed and for the first time, noticed jack wasn't in the bed. she checked the time.
9:45am
"i wonder where he went." she thought out loud before swinging her legs over the edge of the bed and walking out of the room. the moment she walked into the hallway, she was hit with the sensational smell of waffles and coffee.
"good morning." jack greeted her as she entered the kitchen.
"good morning. what's all this?"
"figured you'd want some breakfast after what happened last night. you know, to cheer you up."
"you're amazing, jack. i love you." y/n smiled and sat down at the counter.
"i love you too." he served her a small stack of waffles and put some on a plate for himself. "don't hate me but luke is coming over in about an hour."
"oh. what for?"
"he called me and wanted to come over to talk to me abot what he confessed last night. so, if you want, you can stay and have that chat with him instead."
"thanks. i think that would be good." y/n smiled and the two of them finished eating breakfast. as y/n finished washing the plates, there was a knock at the door. she could hear him before she saw him.
"jack, i'm an idiot." were the first words out of luke's mouth.
"i agree. what for this time?"
"were you awake when i came into your room last night? did you hear anything i said?"
"yeah, about that." jack took a step back and let his brother walk into the kitchen. "i think you two need to talk."
jack hurried out of the apartment as fast as he could, not leaving luke any time to argue about the situation. instead, he just avoided all eye contact.
"i heard what you said last night, luke. and i-"
"oh great. so why didn't you say anything?"
"i didn't want to speak and scare you off. i wanted to listen to what you had to say. and when you were done, i went to say something but you got up and left." y/n put the last dish away and looked over at luke. "but believe me when i say that when i saw you were crying, i wanted to wrap you up in a warm hug and let you know that i forgive you. but again, i didn't want to scare you away."
"i wasn't crying." luke shifted awkwardly and leaned against the opposite counter.
"luke, i know you better than you think i do. and it's okay to talk to me about how you're feeling. you're my best friend."
"still? even after i forgot about you?"
"yes, even after all that. because the love i have for you is greater than the anger i can hold. so the love outweighs it all."
"you love me?"
"yeah. crazy, ain't it?"
"would you believe me if i told you i've loved you since we were 12?" he chuckled. "oh wait. you heard me last night. i'm an idiot. how could i mix up the two rooms? more importantly, how could i think i was talking to jack when all i could smell was your perfume? i must've been really out of it."
“it’s okay. it tends to happen, lukey.” she used his nickname and he couldn’t help the smile that spread across his face when he heard it. to him, it felt like he hadn’t heard it in years.
“i appreciate it. and i appreciate you not judging me for getting emotional last night.”
“one, men are allowed to show their emotions without fear. and two, i would never judge you. you know that.”
“i know. but if you wanted to, i wouldn’t blame you. i’m an idiot.”
“i agree.” y/n smiled. “but again, it’s okay. nobody’s perfect. and hey, we can be idiots together.”
“please tell me you mean that.” luke looked down at y/n and smiled hopefully.
she grabbed the sides of his face and brought him down to her level. “i meant every damn word, lukey.”
and before he could respond, she kissed him. she kissed him with passion and she kissed him with anger. but most importantly, she kissed him with all the love she had ever felt before.
as she pulled away slowly, luke couldn’t help the smile that etched itself onto his face. the girl he’s loved since he was 12 finally loved him back.
“so will you please come home now?”
“you are my home, lukey. and there’s no other place i’d rather be.”

Swept Away
Katara took a deep breath. In through her nose. Out through her mouth. She wasn't nervous. Not really. Not in the sense that other people mean when they say they're nervous. She wasn't scared. She was eager. In a few short minutes, she would be a wife. She would be Zuko's wife. He was going to be her husband.
"Are you sure about this?" Suki asked for the thousandth time. "Really sure?"
"I am." Katara opened her eyes and turned to her sister-in-law. She couldn't fight the smile that spread over her face. "I'm more sure of this than anything in my life. Zuko's it. He's the one."
"Katara," Suki sighed. "Look, I get it. Zuko's incredibly hot. He's smart. He...seems really nice, but-"
"Suki," Katara started to say, but she didn't get a chance to complete her thought.
"Katara, you've known him three months!" Suki burst out. "You've only been dating for eight weeks! You are the most straight laced person I've ever met. Why are you doing something this...impulsive? You're not impulsive!"
"What are you talking about?" Katara turned from the mirror to face Suki directly. "I'm exactly this impulsive. Don't you remember Jang Hui? My protest about gender equality for STEM fields at the North Pole? The time I started a rally for prison reform?"
"Okay, fine," Suki relented, rolling her eyes. "When it comes to social justice, you are very impulsive. But, this? Katara, you're getting married! Without your dad here. Without your GranGran! I know how much they mean to you."
"They mean the world to me," Katara agreed. "But you know I've never cared about a huge wedding. I love Zuko. I love him. I don't see why I should have to wait to make him my husband just because it would take too long for Dad to fly over to see us get married. We'll have a big party...a huge one later. And everyone we love will get to meet and celebrate. But this feels right!"
"Right?" Suki snorted. "It feels right to get married without telling anyone but me and your brother?"
"Yeah," Katara said. A wistful smile tugged at her lips. "I know it sounds crazy, but...I can't wait to marry him. I literally cannot wait. I've never felt this way about anyone. You know! I know you do. Sokka told me you and he started talking about marriage two months in." Suki rolled her eyes skyward and groaned.
"Yeah, talking about it!" Suki repeated it. "We didn't actually get engaged until a year in! We got married on our second anniversary!"
"Zuko and I don't want to wait that long," Katara laughed. "So we've on a faster timeline. So what?"
"What if there are things you don't like about him?" Suki pressed. "What if he's....I don't know...super anal about the way you put toilet paper on the roll? What if he doesn't wash his feet in the shower? What if he...he hates cats?"
"Did you know Sokka's every annoying habit when you married him?" Katara challenged. Suki made a face at her and sucked her teeth.
"No," she admitted. "But I knew a few of them! I knew enough to know that I could deal with the biggest ones."
"So do I," Katara said. "I know that Zuko likes his food unreasonably spicy. I know that when he's angry, he shuts down and needs a day or two before he can talk about it calmly. I know he thinks rom-coms are a wasted of a perfectly good evening. But I also know that he already values my opinion and will make decisions with me. I know he's put in so much work unlearning toxic traits he was taught as a child, way before he and I met. I know he has the softest heart underneath the hard layers. In three months, he's become one of my closest friends. I trust him, and he trusts me. I love him, Suki. I want to marry him now.
"Um..." Suki swiped at her eyes with her knuckles, and blinked rapidly against more tears. "I get that. I do! I just don't want you to regret doing it this way. I don't want you to regret not having Dad here to walk you down the aisle. Or not having Gran Gran help you into your gown. Don't you want a first dance with Zuko?
Katara turned back to the mirror and considered her reflection. As a girl, she had pictured her wedding. Her dressed in silk and looking the best she's ever looked, and her father walking with her to meet her husband. It was exactly as Suki said, with her dancing with her new husband while people took pictures and tossed confetti. Her extended family together and celebrating.
"I don't need it," she told Suki. "Did you know that the only family that Zuko has is his uncle? His mother is dead. His father is a monster. His sister won't speak to him. He wouldn't be alone- he has friends- but, it wouldn't be the same. Plus crowds make him anxious.
"So he asked for this?" Suki frowned. "He wanted to get married at City Hall?
"No, this was my idea," Katara assured her best friend. "He said he was fine with whatever I wanted. But Zuko's an introvert, and a little agoraphobic. The only buffer he would have would be me and his uncle. He wouldn't enjoy himself. Not as much as I would want. There will be plenty of time later to celebrate with the people we love. But not all at once.
"Dad won't like it," Suki warned. Katara shrugged.
"He'll get over it once I explain it to him," she said. "And he'll love Zuko. They have a lot in common."
Suki stared at Katara for a long while, wracking her brains for something, anything to say to her sister-in-law. She came up frustratingly empty. She should have more objections to her best friend and sister marrying someone she's only known a few months. Katara was convincing. She was very convincing when she wanted to be. Finally, Suki threw her hands up in surrender. If Katara was making a mistake, then the next best thing Suki and Sokka could do was make sure they were at least close enough to help her if she needed it.
"Sokka's not thrilled," she told Katara. "I promised him I'd talk sense into you before it was too late."
"It's been too late for a while," Katara chuckled. Suki nodded and laughed with her.
"I see that now," she said. "Sokka's going to be so disappointed."
"I hope that won't cause any issues with you guys," Katara's brow drew down in worry. Suki just waved her off, though.
"Nah," she said. "I'll just tell him I'm pregnant if he gets too riled up." Katara gasped and leapt up from her seat.
"Are you joking?" she squealed. Suki grinned and shook her head.
"I just found out a couple of days ago," she said. "I was going to take him out to the game this weekend and have it announced on the jumbotron, but I'll use it to distract him from your questionable decision making if I need to."
"I'm so happy for you!" Katara said pulling Suki in for a hug. Suki hugged her back tightly.
"I'm happy for you, too." And to her surprise, Suki realized she meant it.

his eyes bounced down to a reply in the thread that linked the video footage of the hit. the blonde clicked into the 20 second video where he watched the girl from the other team plow into samy sending her straight to the ground. he watched her lay there without getting up until her teammates began crowding her.
Considering it's an away game, a concerning amount of the umich hockey team are in the stands, loosing it
There are also three very concerned hughes brothers scattered across the country watching
"what the fuck!" ethan yelled as soon as samy hit the ground. the others around him began mumbling in disbelief, waiting for the ref to throw up a red card.
"that was illegal!" mark yelled right alongside the brunette. the two stood there in disbelief and worry that samy hadn't gotten up yet.
"shit, is she okay?" gavin wondered while almost the entire team's gaze never left the girl down on the field.
"she's not getting up," gabe mumbled from beside the older boys.
"shit, come on samy. get up, get up," ethan mumbled under his breath.
by that time, the coach and athletic trainers were on the field with her. no one could see the brunette because of everyone's bodies hiding her from the stands and the other players. there was still nothing from the refs either.
"that was a fucking card! where's the card!" ryan yelled which got boston's side going because they didn't get why a bc kid was cheering for a umich kid.
"why the fuck are you cheering for the other team?" some stranger yelled over at the boys' section.
"fuck off! she just got hurt!" mark yelled back which shut that other person up fairly quickly.
meanwhile, jack and luke watched the live stream from the comfort of their couch, mouths wide open waiting for their baby sister to get back up.
"why isn't she getting up?" jack muttered.
"the other team hit right into her. they haven't even given a card yet!" luke exclaimed and quickly went to his phone to get any updates from their parents that were there.
ellen picked up on the third ring.
"mom, what the hell's happening? is she okay?" luke put the call on speaker so jack could listen in.
"they're still looking at her on the field right now. the guys aren't too happy about it," the older woman explained.
"why haven't they given that other girl a red card? that was an illegal hit. she did that on purpose," luke continued in frustration.
"the refs are ignoring the stands as they watch the replay," ellen said.
"watch the replay? did they not see that girl hit samy purposefully??" jack rolled his eyes.
"hold on, quinn's calling now too. i'm adding him to this call," a second later, quinn joined.
"you're on the call with luke and jack, too," ellen said to her sons.
"what's going on with this play? the live stream stopped showing what's happening?" quinn urged for some answers.
"they're still looking at her. she took a really hard hit. it looks like her shoulder."
"shit. if it's her shoulder, she's not gonna be able to play or they won't want her to," jack hummed and he knew that would piss samy off because she hated being out of the game.
"wait, she's getting up. your father and i are gonna go down and meet her. we'll call you guys back," ellen hurried out before hanging up.
people in the stands began clapping once samy was up, glad she was okay enough to walk. ethan and mark exchanged a glance watching samy walk back through the tunnel with the trainers. they had a huge ice pack wrapped around her right shoulder.
"fuck, that doesn't look good," gavin muttered.
"wait, the refs are coming back out," ethan nudged the guys' arms as they anxiously awaited what the card would be.
the ref held out a yellow card—a warning.
"what the fuck! that was red card!" ethan immediately yelled, not caring if he got kicked out of the game.
"no fucking way. they're blind!" ryan exclaimed as well.
the refs didn't say anything else and the game continued on without samy while the twitter headlines started breaking about the hit.

I'd love to hear your take on the frankly alarming degree to which e/riels seem to perceive Elain as if she were real person who needs all this protection and defence from """antis""" (adding three quotes on that because I find the term hilarious, honestly). Maybe it's just what the algorithm is showing me but it seems to me that this rampant, aggressive, near feral attitude of e/riels trying to prove they're the only ones who care about Elain and everyone else is, in their eyes, almost an evil caricature out to hate on her is so prevalent these days? I see plenty of rational ones too, but the vocal ones (that I see) seem to have lost their grip on reality vs fiction.
It's always "we care what Elain wants and Elucien's don't" isn't it?
So what they're saying is they are happy for Elain's character to end up with a guy who hasn't thought of a future with her beyond his sexual fantasies, called her a mistake before Rhys even spoke to him, can't admit to being over the female he loved for centuries, doesn't think Elain can handle the trove, gave her zero credit for her part in the war and felt a spark in his chest over the thought of another females joy simply because "it's what she wants" (though we actually don't have canon evidence that what Elain wanted from Az was anything more than a hookup).
These are books so what she wants honestly doesn't matter because her arc isn't over and SJM has the final say on what she wants (something that she has proven to have no issues changing up for her FMC) but say she was a real person. Say your best friend wanted a guy who felt better after spending time with a different girl, who wanted a guy who didn't think of a future with her beyond a night of hooking up, and they'd be completely supportive of that simply because "it's what she wants"?
My sister WANTED to stay married to a guy who was verbally abusive because she has low self esteem issues. While we accepted that it was her life and therefore she made her own choices we weren't required to be excited about it. We were allowed to see how unhappy the situation made her despite her inability to leave at the time, we were allowed to acknowledge how bad he was for her. We were allowed to hope that someday she'd meet someone who was better for her.
To me it's a very immature frame of mind to think that the people who care for you, truly care for you (and are not just motivated by their own desires) need to be happy with what you want when those people often are able to view how those things are unhealthy for you. We are at times our own worst enemy and when we're struggling with things like trauma we don't always make the best decisions. Elucien's are able to spot this behavior in Elain right now especially when she herself confirmed in SF that she still has trauma despite her attempts at find some sort of purpose in the NC. We are able to clearly see how she's choosing to avoid her real problems in favor of fixating on something that gives her a shot of dopamine which, while understandable after great change and loss, is not the way to go about having real character growth.
Does Mor not also have purpose in the NC? But is Mor making the best decisions for her own personal life at this point in the series? The same can be said of Elain's character.
We've all witnessed how Sarah writes a FMC wanting one guy only to start the deterioration of his character so that her eventually wanting another makes sense to us.
Feyre loved Tamlin to the point she was willing to die for him in book 1 but the author hammered home the red flags in book 2 paving the way for Rhys.
Aelin loved Chaol in book 2 of the TOG series only to for Sarah to write his later actions as being something she was unable to forgive, paving the way for her to eventually fall for Rowan (after having no romantic interest in him at the start).
Lucien was introduced as a possible love interest for Elain when the author mated them in book 2 (a very simple fact that proves that if they do end up together Sarah went the route of what SHE wanted and not fanservice since mates getting together is the hallmark of a fated mates author). But instead of ruining Lucien as a possible love interest for Elain, instead of writing him as doing something problematic that makes us understand why he's not the guy for Elain, she has continually written him to be supportive of what she wants, going out of his way to do what is best for her, has him acknowledge her bravery in the war, has him meet her father and realize what a good man he was, has him stare at Elain and only Elain with longing two years after their bond snapped. A lot like what we saw with Rhys for Feyre or Cassian for Nesta, where they longed for the females despite them pushing them away.
If Sarah did not want Elucien's to have hope that they might overcome any current obstacles she would have gone out of her way to show us exactly why he's not the right guy for Elain despite what anti's claim Elain wants right now. Because again, what Elain wants can change and precedence shows us what a FMC wants often does. Not to mention we don't know the exact reasons Elain has withdrawn from Lucien meaning there might be some deeply meaningful explanation for it in the same way we saw with Nesta for Cassian.
You know whose character she did begin to tarnish though? Az when it comes to Elain. He looked sweet towards her in ACOWAR and FAS but in SF he was petty, childish, jealous. He went off half-cocked at how he'd easily defeat Lucien (who is most certainly a future HL and by default will automatically have more power than Az will ever have once his powers manifest, Lucien who controlled the fiercest warrior of the Illyrians with a single word), she wrote him as never once acknowledging how Elain also saved him in the war, how she saved Cassian and Nesta during the war, how she saved Briar during the war. Sarah wrote Az has never having thought of a future with Elain beyond his sexual fantasies. She wrote Az very quickly moving past the events of Solstice with Elain and showing admiration for another female, believing in that females ability to take care of herself, having that female spark something in is chest that is a thing of secret lovely beauty.
It's fine if some people still like the idea of Az and Elain but let's not fool ourselves, it's clear that the author is not writing Az as being the good guy when it comes to her. She gave him the Tamlin treatment when it comes to Elain and we all know what that spells out.
I think the most amusing thing for me will be hearing what anti's have to say when / if Elucien is written as endgame after years of telling us that we don't care for Elain. When the author herself decides Lucien is the best thing for her, when the author herself decides to have them fall in love, when the author herself has left us those clues all along, are they going to accuse the fated mates author who created this world and these characters of not caring about a character they themselves had zero part in bringing to life?

When it comes to bonding and pairing behavior, how strong can some pairs be versus others? I have birds that are actively cheating on each other and others that fiercely defend each other and aren’t interested in other birds. I’m also wondering if how to split up biological siblings that have bonded and become mates
That's about the gamut. XD
Sexual fidelity has absolutely nothing to do with pigeon marriage.
What pigeons consider faithfulness from their partner is that they share the same roost at night, their mate gets first dibs when either bird wants sex, and they share both nesting and peep feeding duty equally.
As long as their partner is sated, they really don't care who their other half mounts or propositions.
Tumblr media
Serket, for example, only has eyes for
Tumblr media
Titan, his gigantic wife.
That exclusivity is mutual.
Titan has a fair few admirers!
Literally all the single boys want her and a few of the married boys will make a pass.
Tumblr media
Sher will throw his little hat into the ring for anyone, despite being happily married to
Tumblr media
Cotta's sister, Taffeta.
Tumblr media
Sterling (single) used to be mated to Taffeta, but she left him for a cock whose family returned him.
After he went to a new family, she paired up with Sher, who has never had a mate.
Sterling makes passes at her and Titan about equally.
Tumblr media
Ninka (single) was mated to Sage, the Chinese Owl, but as I opted to move away from that breed, I adopted her out.
Titan is his favorite hen to pursue, and he does it by kicking her husband out of any nest he tries to settle in.
Serket is tiny, so there isn't much he can do about it.
Tumblr media
Orchid is obsessed with Titan and down right obnoxious about trying to shove Serket off of her and tread her while she's presenting.
There are SO many videos on my youtube and TikTok of Titan getting fed up with his bullshit and punching his face.
When that doesn't work, she bites the absolute fool out of him and snatches out neck feathers.
Serket and Titan are actually in the background of this photo, because I called Orchid's name to snap the shot mid harassment.
Serket is doing his absolute damnedest to body block Orchid from Titan.
You'll notice there are two very different sets of behaviors directed towards a Cock's wife and his side chick.
Wife gets the whole courtship ritual from dancing to chasing, to nest selection to kissing, and then she will present for him to tread.
Side chick just presents and he steps up on top of her, mounts her, and they're done: wham, bam, thank you ma'am.
A cock can have however many side chicks he wants, but usually only keeps one specific mate, whose nest he helps build, whose eggs he takes a turn setting, and whose chicks he helps feed and then teaches how to pigeon when they wean.
I have observed exactly one pigeon who I would classify as Polyamorous.
Tumblr media
Ferdi had five wives!
Not a wife and four regular side chicks!
Five wives that he cycled through!
He'd be teaching the weaned peeps from one wife, helping feed a second's nestlings, taking his turn sitting the third's eggs, mating number four, and nest hunting/reaffirming with number five at any given time.
I retired him because I worried he was going to work himself to death!
Never seen another instance of it, but I have seen a whole range of sexualities and gender expression from pigeons.
But, yeah, what you're seeing in your flock is pretty normal.
Dad doesn't care who filled the eggs, as long as they are laid in his nest.
Mom doesn't care who else's eggs Dad fills, so long as he helps her hatch and raise hers.
Different individuals are different degrees of sexually faithful.
Makes keeping track of bloodlines a pain, but domestic animals are happiest when they can express natural behaviors.
Because of the way peeps tend to bond with in their age group, it's not uncommon for siblings to bond as mates if no other clutches hatch.
You have mentioned wanting to breed for companionship.
So in order to decide what to do about the two siblings, you need to consider which you are keeping and why.
Breeding is a selective process.
If you have all the pairs you need, you really only want to keep the *best* of their offspring.
Do you have any goal more specific than temperament?
With external traits, you'll have an idea of which to keep early on, if one or the other is an improvement in the desired traits over the parents.
But temperament is really hard to work out before the bird is fully mature.
That's one of those lessons I learned by experience. >.<
So, when the buildings are moved over, repaired, and ready for birds again, I will be keeping each pair's first clutch to evaluate for the first 6 months, and hatch controlling in the meantime.
When the peeps are fully developed, they will be evaluated against each other, and their parents.
Whichever offspring is an improvement over both parent's faults with a better temperament than the more skittish parent, that one will stay, the parents will be made available as a pair, and the sibling will be made available.
I hope to limit inbreeding this way, and prevent crowding.
If you just don't want offspring out of the siblings, hatch control as long as they are together.
Plastic or wooden eggs are your best friend!

So idea for human au at some point the apartment they live in gets flooded or becomes unlivable some other way. While it’s getting fixed they have to go live somewhere else luckily Carmilla is more than willing to take both of them in. She is spending this time trying to win over Sera and make her want to come back and stay with her permanently as well as get Sera to go out with her.
If anything positive is to be gleaned from this, Sera is glad, at least, that she'd bought the renter's insurance. The furniture, the appliances, the food they lost when the power went out -- all those things can be replaced. But the photos and precious memories that were ruined when the tepid water had soaked into their photo albums and Sera's only computer...they can't get any of that back. Sera will be lucky if her hard drive isn't completely waterlogged. She laughs, because if she doesn't, she'll cry and never stop.
But Emily is safe. Sera is safe. No one get electrocuted when about a foot of water, almost two, started gathering in their basement apartment overnight during some recent flooding. The worst event their small town had seen in at least 20 years. Sera tries to feel grateful for the little things. It's the only way she'll get through this with some semblance of her sanity intact.
Insurance can replace their things, but finding a place to stay for the next several days, or weeks, until management can get rid of the water and make repairs is what's plaguing Sera's mind at the moment. She tries to be strong for Emily, because the little girl had been scared, too. Emily is so strong -- much stronger than her, most often these days -- and Sera doesn't ever let her see Sera cry, but she does a lot of that in private, when her sister isn't looking.
Carmilla calls them the evening after, out of the blue, once she and Emily have settled into their hotel. It's roach and springtail infested, and the bedsheets feel like sandpaper to Sera's sensitive skin, but it's a roof over their heads, so she can't complain. Sera wonders how Carmilla had heard of their plight, and then she remembers -- of course, Emily probably told Odette and Clara that day at school.
"Carmilla, hi," Sera manages to say, trying to keep the tiredness and stress out of her voice when she answers her cell phone.
"Sera...the girls told me what happened at your place. I'm so sorry. Are you okay?"
Sera curls up into the fetal position on the bed, cell phone shoved against her ear and rough fabric of the pillow. Emily dozes softly beside her. It's been a long day for both of them.
"We're okay. These things happen," Sera says. It is definitely not okay. Sera is having a really hard time believing her own words coming out of her mouth.
Carmilla knows when she's lying. "Why don't I believe you?"
"You don't need to worry about us." Sera really wants Carmilla to worry about them. "We're safe. Staying at a hotel tonight."
"...For how long?" The brief pause before Carmilla's question signals that the matriarch is not at all happy about this news.
"A few days. Maybe a week." Sera lies again.
Carmilla calls her out for it.
"Sera...you know you can tell me if you need help, right?" Carmilla tries to nudge at Sera softly with her words. It hits at a very tender place in Sera's heart; one she didn't realize she had until she met this woman. "You know I care...very much about you and Emily."
"I know. I know you do. But Carmilla...I don't want you to feel obligated to solve all our problems. Emily is...my responsibility. Not yours. We appreciate all you do for us...but..."
"But what?"
"It just doesn't feel right. I feel like I'm taking advantage of you."
The silence stretches for several moments longer. Sera can't even hear the sound of the other woman breathing on the other end of the line, until Carmilla speaks again, and puts a stop to any further protests from Sera.
"You're not taking advantage of me. I want to help. Why don't you and Emily stay with us? The insurance company doesn't have to know."
"What? But--"
"You don't have to, if you don't want to," Carmilla adds, giving Sera a way out, if she chooses not to accept her offer. "But like I said...I hope you know by now how...sincere my feelings are for you, and your sister. You're always welcome here. I would like it very much if you would stay...for however long you need to. Or forever."
Sera's face flushes several shades of pink, and her neck gets hot. A lump forms in her throat, and she swallows it, until it thunks heavily somewhere in the vicinity of her heart. She's speechless. Tries several times to form words with her jumbled brain. Her body feels catatonic by Carmilla's words. She knew Carmilla had feelings for her...but she didn't know how deep it went.
"Really?" she asks, still dumbfounded. "Are you sure?"
"Of course, I'm sure. I don't say things I don't mean. I want you both here. If it's what you both want, too."
The fact that Carmilla is also keeping Emily's feelings in the equation tugs at Sera's heart in a completely different, unique sort of way than it had earlier.
"Umm...thank you. Can I...can we...think about it tonight?" Sera asks. She doesn't think Carmilla's offer has an expiration date...but this is a big change. She wants to talk it over, with Emily. Her sister deserves a say in all this, too.
"Of course. Take all the time you need. My door is always open. The girls would love having you here, too, if it's any consolation."
"It is...thank you, Carmilla."
"You're welcome, mi querida. Goodnight."
"Good night, Carmilla."
Sera hangs up and lies there with the phone against her cheek for several moments longer, pretending in her mind's eye that the heat emitting from the little device is actually the warmth of Carmilla's hand against her face. She can pretend that Carmilla's lying here next to her, holding her, telling her everything will be okay...
She'll talk to Emily the next morning. Sera's pretty certain what her little sister will say...so in that sense, their minds are already made up. She sets her alarm on her phone, and quickly falls asleep. Their lives are about to go through a big change in the morning. She needs all the sleep her tired body can get.

Gaz is hands down a leg/thigh man. at least in my squad 4 fics. he loves Aggie's legs, he always has and he's never been shy to tell her. whenever she's insecure about her legs, usually wearing a skirt or dress—her tell, particularly on cooler days—Gaz would outright tell her how gorgeous she looked, even if it seemed a bit of a strange thing to tell your best friend. Well, if Taylor could, why couldn't he?
Soap is an ass man, to the day he dies. You could probably catch him smacking Taylor's ass if you were quick enough to look. It doesn't help him that Taylor's always working out—for her job, not him—and every pair of pants she owns shows off his favourite butt. Aggie excuses his ass slapping; she does it too, it's only right Taylor lets her man slap it too!
Ghost never cared too much about whether he liked Aileen's ass, boobs or thighs more. Not that he could ever admit to preferring any of them in front of Soap. Every time Gaz has asked, Soap has screamed that he doesn't want to hear it before leaving the room. It's only fair the poor man doesn't want to hear about his baby sister's body! She's gentle with him, and knows to back off and Ghost's having troubles with the day. That's what he likes most about her, it's just a benefit she's hot.
None of this is to say Price is a boob man. Sure, he loves Sophia's chest more than anything—maybe—and would he keep his face there all his life if he could? Perhaps. But that doesn't mean anything. Even if Sophia tells the girls, who tell their men, that Price is all about her boobs, doesn't mean he's a boob man. No, sir.
This isn't to say Gaz and Soap only like their women for their bodies, as much as their loud compliments make them out to be so superficial.
Gaz loves Aggie's no-tolerance-for-bullshit attitude, he finds it hot when she's yelling at rookies for screwing around whenever he's popping in with her lunch. Then it's adorable when she goes all soft the moment she sees him and graciously accepts the warm, home cooked meal.
And don't get Soap STARTED on Taylor lifting typically heavy-to-a-five-foot-six-woman things! The way he knows she doesn't need him to lift the couch so the cat can get out but she asks him anyway has this man all mush. Not that any of the guys know that.
And Ghost is 100% a leg man with the jeans Aileen's always wearing.

the way matt creates these emotionally** flat??? characters who have family attachments to the main pcs and yet there's just something.... off about the way they display intimacy that it equally angers me, makes my skin crawl, and makes me just want to write extensively on what a master storyteller matt is. the way he presents just in this campaign alone, parental figures that on paper can easily be defended and rallied behind somehow especially if their choices played out more negatively than they intended*, and yet actually experiencing people who you, individually, care so much about in your life and who, you would just naturally believe, would also care so much about you, but there's a blip on the monitor and a disconnect that at first is so infinitesimal. until it's not. until you get bruised deeper and they look at you the same. and it's like there's no true empathetic connection. from your "loved one". it's not malice, it's not heartless or calloused, it's just.... it's surface-level and it's crossed t's and dotted i's and you know that they do not mean it to hurt you. but they also don't really mean it when they tell you they love you. and it aches so incredibly well done that matt will have these figures look into the eyes of their own and say the words and have a softness in their face, and yet have no genuine fierceness to the love they claim for someone who has so much love for them. and it's not a criticism, it's just so well done because it's such a nuanced relationship in the world and it sucks but matt always delivers it so perfectly

#oh mika there is beauty in life~ look at your future! everything will be worth it in the end~#my favorite image on this device btw ^#cw negative#cw vent#you know where this is going. apologies my mind is a mess and i really just need to get it out because i find its better than-#-writing a semi formal email to that One (1) emotional support organization and i’m afraid to make a call so#but i just genuinely believe things would be better off if i weren’t alive. a bit of a silly thing to jump to i know but#my tuition fees aren't cheap and i'm not even that great of a student or a daughter or a sister and i-#-have no talents or remarkable feats. i’m not impressive in any way. and i hate hearing shit about how ^_^ its okay! we all have something-#-special about ourselves! for example maybe you have really good hand writing and thats good enough ~ but that doesn't work for me because-#-i have nothing. my handwriting isn't good my singing isn't good i'm not artistically gifted i don't have some random affinity for puzzles-#-i'm not charming or somehow really good at calculation or super creative or a really comforting friend i really have nothing at all#i don’t want to die. i have no plans on doing that sort of thing anytime soon— don’t misunderstand me#i just wholeheartedly believe i don’t deserve to be here anymore not because i’m not loved. i just can’t stand myself and my teenage years-#-feel so long and i'm so fragile how much longer do i have to tolerate. i'm contributing nothing. why should my family have to feed and-#-clothe a burden like me who provides nothing. why should my friends care for someone like me. i’m not really that funny or sweet or great-#-with advice giving or pretty or helpful in any way. why is it that life is genuinely easier for others. what did i do? what can i do?#how much longer must i tolerate this? would you believe me if i said i really did try to change my mindset this time?#i have no one in real life to talk to. therapists are pricey and i don’t think mine was helping me in any way anyways. she was nice though#so every night i sleep hoping i wake up somewhere else. somewhere where i'm happier and i can live all my silly fantasies where i'm a fun-#-and lovely person who has everything she wants and nothing goes wrong ever!!#how much longer must i hang onto the little things. i’m in such an exruciating amount of pain that i want to kill myself without dying? lol#everyone repeats the same stuff. get bit#i can't rely on the joy of having coffee every morning or persevere for the sake of seeing cute cats on insta. nothing will ease the burden

I've seen a good number of people ask a question along the limes of "why do characters like Falin and hate Laios when they're so similar?" and i've also seen good analysis on the differences in how the touden siblings carry themselves that would, despite their shared traits, make a person gravitate to one more than the other.
But i feel like we've overseen one very central thing here.
People don't like Falin
Like... the average person in dungeon meshi doesn't like Falin. She was deeply ostrasized by her home village, in magic school she had zero friends before Marcille and the others generally saw her as strange and a bit offputting.
Tumblr media
Characters like Namari and Chilchuck like her well enough but not necessarily more than any other member of their party, including Laios. Neither Kabru nor his party think much of her. The canaries don't give a fuck about her. Toshiro's retainers don't see her as anything else than the weird foreign girl their boss has a crush on.
The reason we think everyone loves Falin is because, despite all the indifferent side characters, the 2 most important and central characters of the story are Laios and Marcille. Who are NOT representative of the average attitudes to Falin! But necromancy georg number 1 and 2 are our main eyes into the story and they love Falin so much that it colours our perspective of the whole world.
The only side character who qualifies as liking Falin and not Laios is Toshiro (at least at first, as he ends the story on much better terms with Laios) and that says a lot about his character, with him drifting to the quiet Falin precisely because of her oddness but being both uncomfortable with and deeply jealous of Laios' much more open expression of that oddness. Because he's a repressed guy from a culture where etiquette is incredibly important.
But like I said, that's a specific aspect of him, not to the world at large.
Because there's also people that click more with laios than with Falin.
Kabru, for one, who is initially distrustful of laios but clearly also deeply fascinated by him and drawn to him.
Minor spoilers, and you don't have to read too deeply into this, because I don't think Kabru particularly dislikes Falin or anything. But it's interesting that when he talks about his distrust of the toudens in ch.32 he's talking about them both. But his big friendship declaration in chapter 76 is aimed squarely at Laios, he doesn't say "you and your sister" he says "you"
Tumblr media
And Senshi!! He instantly clicks with Laios, well before he does so with anyone else in the party– who he also becomes friends with, it just takes a bit longer– specifically because they bond over their shared special interest in monsters!! Senshi is kind towards Falin and cares for her wellbeing, but he also... doesn't know her. The reason he is even here, helping to save her, is because he and Laios bonded over monsters and he wants to help his new friends out!
Of course, the theme of neurodivergent isolation is very present in Laios' story. I'm not denying that. He does turn people off, without meaning to and unable to fully understand why! But so does Falin. And just like there are people who like her despite of or even because of those traits, there are people who do the same with him.
In conclusion: "Average person loves Falin and hates Laios" factoid actually statistical error. Average person is neutral on both Falin and Laios. Georcille, Laiorg and Geoshiro, who live in the dungeon and think over 10,000 Falin-loving thoughts a day, are statistical outliers adn should not have been counted.

always feel like my siblings almost forget what my dad is actually like which it's like how lol just because you don't live here anymore doesn't negate years of his shit and you still see some of it when you are with him so it's nice to actually get some acknowledgement of it when me and my mom are still witness to it
