You seriously need to read this thread on Twitter, because it sums up the main issue with Killing Eve seasons 3 and 4 perfectly.

Season 1 was a masterpiece. Season 2 was definitely not as good, but it still understood the characters. Seasons 3 and 4 undermined the whole purpose of Killing Eve, Eve, and Villanelle. They showed a fundamental misunderstanding of the characters and the story itself. They took a morally subversive story and bent and twisted it to fit a moral binary it was never supposed to exist in – one it was supposed to rebel against.

Eve and Villanelle were meant to be a defiance of that moral binary, to exist all along a spectrum of right and wrong and morally gray areas, because they don't confine to traditional concepts of right and wrong to begin with.

Anyway, the showrunners of seasons 3 and 4 didn't understand the characters, nor the point of the story they inherited, and it showed.

being the token horror movie guy in the family is so hard. what do you mean you dont wanna watch the having a bad time movie? What? What do you mean its scary?

#this used to be me but then my brother got into horror so there were 2 of us which was great #cue us trying to convince everybody else we should watch one of the saw movies for movie night except it wasn’t the first one and #no one else had watched any of the ones leading up to it so we ended up trying to do this joint recap of the story so far #we did a terrible job and for some reason both forgot jigsaws actual name was John and my brother was like “uhh lets say Brian he looks like #a Brian’ and so we called him Brian the whole time.

my take on the agnes/gertrude/elias situationship is that gertrude seems like the most normal one to outsiders (she's less prone to arson/creepy mind reading at inopportune moments), but she is still the archivist and therefore kind of eldritch. everyone in the institute has just sort of accepted that yes, the archivist does sleep with her eyes open/is muttering incantations, and it's the least weird thing she's done this week

ok the funny thing is, technically, if by "most normal" we're going off of who is the most human, Gertrude is the normal one. but I don't believe for a second that that's how she's perceived among the rest of the archive staff lmao. like...all her assistants wind up dead, she actively works to make sure her filing system is the least effective one possible, she takes random mysterious vacations and comes back looking like she's just gone ten rounds with a tornado...I absolutely think that Gertrude has the reputation of being the eccentric on staff. I've prepared this diagram to illustrate my point:
