hello. I have made a mistake I would like to own up to now.

I completely mixed up the timeline, Oliver goes to Europe about two weeks after tama. this is something I DO know I just managed to forget

HOWEVER, two weeks is the time he gives for when he'll come back to the am to catch up with Alex, and this is presumably where he exchanges contact information with Mark, as he does not do this (and does not have a phone) in tama. so my point stands that they in fact functionally knew each other for maybe a day or two before Oliver left.

I apologize for being a bit misleading, sometimes I am stupid.

something about the way that oliver sees himself as nothing. but his ability is everything.

the dichotomy between oliver and his ability needs to be studied (has been studied. by me. lauren shippen approved dissertation).

he's so much more vulnerable in tct because his ability is not really There. not the parts of it he likes. and that's why it's soooo easy for blackwell to get to him, yknow? he not only promises oliver a world where his ability IS the only thing that matters, a world where he can just be his ability and he'll thrive, but he also gives oliver some kind of reason to still latch onto the remaining pieces of his ability that are there in tct. and oliver is so desperate to feel that.

it's why he chases the opportunity to build the artifact in episode 4 and why he can't make himself quit when it starts working. it's the first time he's made something in at least a year. and without that, it's not just his ability that's broken.

this is HALF coherent i just woke up. but oliver study ✨✨✨

my favorite mark/oliver dynamic by far is that oliver knows he's in love with mark and mark is completely oblivious.

like oliver kind of gets painted as this sort repressed guy who has barely if any idea about what he feels for mark and i just don't think he is tbh. he comes out of tier five making moves on all the guys. and he's barely hiding it. i'm not gonna mention lee bc y'all KNOW what i'm gonna say about lee. and if you don't know what i'm going to say about lee, they f—

anyway.

honestly oliver seems well aware of how important mark is to him in tct. he fucks up once and assumes mark wants him gone, and freaks the fuck out about it because in his mind that's equivalent to losing Everyone, which we hear when he ends up apologizing and then with how quickly he settles back in their usual dynamic after he gets assurance From mark. like. he knows. he knows and it's clear in Every interaction. he's even the one who gets the most defensive when beck makes a joke about them being together.

and mark obviously knows that oliver is important to him. but he's like,, all of his friends are important to him. he calls oliver his best friend Twice. they've known each other for three years and he calls oliver his best friend, and honestly he seems pretty comfortable with that label right now. he has his guard up about romance after damien and sam. he's not Thinking about feelings because he's still a little scared of them. even in tama he wasn't really sure if he was completely over sam. and i think he'd be so worried about losing his best friend that he wouldn't even let himself think that he had feelings for him. maybe he considered it at one point but he pushed it down so far that he has no idea he's in love with him.

HOWEVER.

i do think it is very possible. that at the end of tct. he realizes.

he ran head first into danger to save him. and yeah, he probably would for the vast majority of his friends. but he has almost never been scared like that. i think he knows. he still thinks that oliver sees him as his best (only) friend, but it is Getting There. one day.
