Dimitri From Paris was the first DJ house music DJ in France. Godfather of the “French touch” and he is the cult figure amongst the dance music connoisseurs. One of his compilations charted in Mixmag’s top 100 of best compilations ever. He remixed Bjørk, The Cardigans, New Order and Quincy Jones amongst many others. The reactions of the rebranding on YSL
Much Ado About Nothing?
Considering the past weeks reactions and discontent of the news that has been buzzing around in the fashion industry, which consisted that the newly appointed creative director Hedi Slimane of the French fashion house decisions to change the Yves Saint Laurent brand name to Saint Laurent Paris. And also chose to move the company's creative studio to Los Angeles where he resides.
It may come a cross a bit unnerving the rebranding of a name of such an established, so familiar and iconic household name. Yet is hardly worth the heartache and noise that has apparently gone viral lately. Considering the fact that Slimane's change is solely for the brand's ready-to-wear line. The YSL logo will still remain in tact for a lot of the products, including the brand's footwear and beauty lines.
Furthermore, the name change actually happens to be more in line with Yves Saint Laurent's roots. As shown in the following photograph, the new name was inspired by what the label's founder originally called the brand when it launched in 1966- Saint Laurent Rive Gauche- using the same font and nomenclature.

After all the strong outspoken reactions that flourished on the internet due to the rebranding, it caused Hedi Slimane to speak up about the response to his decision in an interview, it was interesting to see how much it corroborated with The Fashion Grid's previously assessment on this subject.
Hedi Slimane:
“It is interesting to see how much reaction this retro branding has created. Clearly, this period of the history of the house was not well-known, which I trust was a surprise for Pierre Bergé [Saint Laurent's long-term partner]. I went back to 1966 – just before the events of 1968 [when 11 million workers revolted against the conservative politics of then-President Charles de Gaulle - the biggest general strike in history], but the awakening of youth was in the air, and Yves Saint Laurent wanted to dissociate himself from the clientele of haute couture and embrace this new generation.”

Today - August 5th 2012, it's 50 years since the deceased icon Marilyn Monroe was found after her suicide. Madonna, Angelina Jolie, Paris Hilton, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, Charlize Theron are amongst others in the entertainment industry of today's pop icons that has been inspired and payed homage to the legend of Marilyn Monroe.
Pop artist Andy Warhol's painting that he created shortly after her departure in 1962, along with the series of 5 paintings he created in 1964 are the most famous salutation of the bottle blond icon. These paintings were based on a 1953 publicity still from the movie Niagara. And by duplicating a photograph and undermined the uniqueness and authenticity characteristic of a traditional photograph. He instead presented Marilyn Monroe as an infinitely reproducible image, that has become iconic as the icon herself.

In 1973 Sir Elton John attributed the song Goodbye Norma Jean to Marilyn Monroe. Same song was later rewritten for the funeral of his personal friend the deceased Princess Lady Diana.

Dimitri From Paris gets Back in the House
Dimitri From Paris is ready to release a two-disc mix package with Defected Records called Back in the House.
"To me disco is the ultimate dance music," says Dimitri From Paris. "I am very close to the true disco feel because I feel that in dance music nothing better has been done. It's really the quintessential dance music sound and I stay true to it in different forms."
This stance is clear enough on Back in the House, a two-disc package that keeps up a sunny disco feel despite using plenty of contemporary house tracks from artists like Soul Clap, Storm Queen and Maceo Plex. Each disc shows a different side of the veteran French DJ. The first, recorded live at The Horse & Groom in London, shows him in club mode. The second is a more calculated effort, recorded at his "mansion" in Paris.

High end fashion @the 2012 Summer Olympics
Top designers along with four fashion powerhouses in Europe has designed outfits for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
Stella McCartney (Adidas) created for Team Great Britain, Ralph Lauren for the Team USA's official opening and closing ceremony uniforms.
Prada and Emporio Armani for Italy: Prada to outfit the Olympic 2012 Italian sailing team and from Armani under the Emporio Armani EA7 sportswear label - each athlete has received a set of Armani luggage which contains around 50 items of EA7 gear including the official tracksuit, warm-up kit, Bermuda shorts and a variety of trousers, T-shirts, shirts and shoes.
Hermès has created outfits for the French Olympic equestrian show jumping and eventing teams, while Salvatore Ferragamo dresses the Republic of San Marino team - Italy's independent micro state for the official ceremonies. It covers everything from leisure time to gala events, mixes sporty functionality with the brand’s signature "sartorial allure". The tailored uniforms are to combine sophistication with craftmanship as well as functionality. Also the San Marino Olympians will tout one of Ferragamo's iconic bags - "the Sofia," -it has been given an update.
Not only will sports enthusiasts get their fix at the 2012 Summer Olympics, so will fashion-addicts.

Art in the Park
Situated in the borough of Frogner is the world famed Vigeland Sculpture Park, it features 212 bronze and granite sculptures all made by Gustav Vigeland. The sculpture park itself is surrounded by Frognerparken (the park of Frogner), which is a popular picnic and recreation spot in the summer. Its only a stone throw away from one of the most prestigious residential area of Oslo, the capital of Norway. The park also consists several small bridges and sculptured fountains.
