I agree here.

At the same time, I wouldn't say that Connor was abu/sing Zoe for the sake of it. The novelisation dives well into Connor's character in a way the musical just couldn't, I'd recommend giving that a shot.

But that does NOT make Connor blameless, nor does it make Zoe the perpetrator. She's the victim here, and he was in the wrong.

There's a difference between understanding motives and intent (along with whatever mental crap is going on), and turning a blind eye to the obvious.

As much of a mess as the Murphy family situation is, I think that's clear enough.

Also, that doesn't make Connor the only one to blame either. Cynthia and Larry absolutely mishandled the situation by pretending like none of this ever happened and not (to our knowledge) getting Zoe to therapy over it.

here we go: the deh fandom absolutely sucks for taking a portrayal of sibling abuse that was pretty clear cut over who was the victim and who was the perpetrator and then going to town with the victim blaming

If she had know it would lead them to their deaths, and to singng for their lives in a warehouse, she would have fought harder to ride the bumper cars.

But now, Alana Beck, Zoe Murphy, Evan Hansen, Jared Kleinman, and Connor Murphy were all dead.

Along with a creepy girl, who Alana's half-sure is just an animated Barbie doll. Oh, and don't forget to mention the fortune telling machine running this behind the scenes. Yeah, the one that thinks it's fun to mess with Alana?

Ideas for a Dear Evan Hansen/Helluva Boss AU (Part 1)

These are just some basic concepts for an alternate universe where the characters in Dear Evan Hansen are Helluva Boss demons! This part will be covering my thoughts on what kind of demon the Hansens, the Murphys, Jared and Alana would be.

Keep in mind that all screenshots are from the show; none are my intended designs. I just want to show every species I talk about off!

First up, I think I’d make Heidi Hansen a hellhound. They’re the lowest-ranked species of Hell, and aren’t treated with too much respect. Because of this, Heidi has to work much harder than many other demons in Hell to provide for Evan.

Hellhounds take many forms, but I think she’d resemble a species similar to a Labrador retriever. That’s partially because of the general loyalness of Labs, but also because they’re not too aggressive as species.

There’s no Lab hellhounds confirmed in the show yet, but other species such as Dobermans have been seen before.

Evan, too, would be a Hellhound. He’d have blonde fur like his mom, but I’m thinking that his dad might be a more wolflike Hellhound and there’s aspects of that playing in.

If you’ve seen my Owl House Picrews, you’d have seen my design of Jared. It’s largely going to be the same here; he’s an imp, a lowly species that still tops hellhounds.

Jared’s short for an imp here; kinda about Moxxie’s height. Other than that he’s pretty similar to canon. Maybe he’s a bit bolder with all the extra profanity.

I think I might make Alana be a succubus, demon species more powerful and respected than Imps but below Sinner Demons. She’s pretty similar to the show here too, only she has more of a focus on redemption as opposed to mental health awareness like in canon and wants to help out at the Hazbin Hotel when she’s older.

Finally, the Murphys! They’re going to be Goetian royalty here! Hurrah, birb monsters!

Octavia herself reminds me a lot of both Zoe and Connor, having Connor’s behaviour with a huge star motif (which is a bit of a theme when it comes to Zoe). Plus, their status in Hell plays nicely with how rich they are in canon and with the expectations that come with this position. In addition to all this, it’s yet another reason why Evan feels like he can’t talk to or date Zoe.

It’s also suggested in canon that some, if not all, Goetian demons are placed in heterosexual arranged marriages from a young age (something else interesting to explore). This is probably the demon assignment I’m most happy with!

Headcanons for the Dear Evan Hansen Owl House AU

(By the way. for those who haven’t seen my other posts, this is an AU where the characters of Dear Evan Hansen are Hexside witches!)

(Contains NO spoilers for Thanks To Them)

- Evan’s in the Plant track, because of course he is.

- Evan’s plants grow stronger when his emotions are strong, regardless of if they’re positive or negative ones. Panic attacks can get dangerous for everyone. Because of this, he constantly worries about hurting someone this way. He’s even considered switching tracks.

- He also knows basic healing magic, and he’s considering multi-tracking.

- Connor Murphy’s in the Beastkeeping track, cause I love the idea of Connor loving animals.

- Connor’s the gutsiest one in his track, and went to the Healing classroom at least twice a week until Evan learned how to heal his scratches.

- Connor gets along best with the more aggressive animals because he understands them best. If you give him and a dangerous animal enough time and space, he can get to know them.

- Zoe was initially enrolled in the Abomination track, as it has plenty of other opportunities and skills learned with Abominations can be applied easily to other forms of magic.

- Like with Odalia Blight, Zoe’s parents expect her to join the Emperor’s Coven. This isn’t so much as something they pressure her to do so much as something they see her doing naturally and her assuming they’d be disappointed if she failed.

- Later on, when multi-tracking was made possible, Zoe joined the Bard track (after practicing with Bard magic in her spare time).

- Zoe and Connor both wear Oracle necklaces, also like the one Odalia gives to Amity. Zoe’s is generally only used if Connor’s isn’t working. 

- Evan grew the tree he fell off of himself after channeling his despair.

- Evan doesn’t wear a cast because his arm was fixed magically.

- Connor’s attempt was also thwarted by magic.

Intro

Heya! My name’s Rowan, I go by They/Them pronouns!

I really like Dear Evan Hansen and Be More Chill (in all forms apart from the DEH movie)! I’m also a fan of Heathers, Beetlejuice, Wicked, and animated musical movies like Vivo (along with Rambu’s Musical Pipers comic series!).

Over here I’ll mostly post headcanons and AU stuff :)

My primary ships for Dear Evan Hansen and Be More Chill are Treebros, Boyf riends, and Richjake. This is after doing a lot of character analysis, and obviously for Treebros it’s in an AU where Connor survived.

I also like Heidi Hansen/Jeremy’s Dad (who I call Joseph here) but mostly for the stepbros content lol.

Secondary pairings I like include Rich/Michael, Jeremy/Christine, Connor/Miguel and (in the Be More Sincere AU only) Michael/Jared. Otherwise I’m neutral when it comes to shipping.
