I wanted to draw this comic for a long time, but I never knew how to approach this issue. In my childhood all my friends had budgies, all of them were put aside somewhere and left alone. Treated like “annoying” decoration. Don’t get a bird if you can’t meet its needs.

Hero! Looks terrifying, I think I would have panicked when I was all the way in there, even now I have the heebeegeebees! D:  I think I would have come back with some kind of contraption on a stick to shove them out... Am glad you got them all!

okay, so today has been an absolute wild ride, but I wanted to make a post and share what’s happened with everyone here, because it’s kind of a big thing.

I went out with my mother this morning to get some Necessities from the store. on the way back to the house, we found one of the outdoor stray cat’s we’ve been feeding, Dahlia, on the side of the road. she’d been hit by a car and hadn’t made it.

as heartbroken as we were, there was a bigger issue.

four days ago, Dahlia had a litter of kittens in the stormage ditch just off the side of our property.

it’s about twenty inches around, and twenty foot long. the far end of the tunnel is crushed and inaccessible. the kittens? fifteen foot into the tunnel.

I made a ridiculous educational pamphlet on worm on a string keeping the other night, figured it was worth sharing! I based it on irl experiences with- The kind of colours of worm for sale online (and how common they seem to be), people modding their worms, the different ways companies construct them, and things like sealing the nose and tail tip to prevent fraying<3

ALMOST AT 2000 FOLLOWERS!

When the 2000 followers will be BEFORE new year we will send a box of nice things to someone! And when time enough Human will sketch dogblr dogs and give them their personal holiday card thingy or something! IF we reach those 2000!

Please send us a message if you are a dogblr and want a Christmas card (including your address), a card in return would be awesome as Human wants to cover the whole fridge with those cards!

For the giveaway, make sure to follow and SHARE this post! Any cool ideas are very welcome and it would be most awesome if it went to a dogblr as the box will be containing dog stuff! Or ferret or cat or horse or reptile stuff if you prefer those things, I mean we do not discriminate! (only against Humans I guess..?)

Why couldn't pterosaurs skim-feed? How do we know? What animals can or could skim-feed? Birds?

The only animals today that skim feed are a group of birds called - get this - skimmers:

Black skimmers are, if you didn’t know, ridiculously weird. Like, ridiculously.

Because the way they feed - flying over the water and dragging their beaks through the water until it hits something - is so incredibly silly, they have a ton of adaptations to overcome the challenges. After all, water is much more viscous than air, so the drag from the water should be enough to rip the jaw off - or worse, snap the neck. On top of that, they have to have a way to actually secure the prey.

Mark Witton has written a lot about skimmers; so has Jaime Headden. Here’s a graphic Witton made listing specific adaptations towards skimming in skimmers:

That’s a lot - 17 adaptations just for stabilising the head/jaw! If we found a fossil of a skimmer without ever seeing a live one, we might not be able to guess what they were doing, but we’d sure as heck know they were doing something weird that required ridiculous reinforcement of the head and neck.

So there’s 26 direct correlates to skimming in skimmers! To argue that pterosaurs skim-fed, we should look at whether these adaptations are present in various lineages. 

And the answer is….they’re not.

Pterosaur skulls tend to to be much wider, often with teeth sticking out all over the place. This is completely opposite from the expected knife-like jaw to slice through the water - it’s easy to see how this Rhamphorhynchus could lose all its teeth if it tried!

As for Thalassodromeus, when researchers conducted drag studies by plowing the beak of a model through the water, it produced so much drag that the testing rig broke. Suffice it to say that that’s not super likely.
