Embarrassing/Awesome experience at shul tonight

So to preface this I’m hiding in the bathroom and will save it and edit typing errors when I get home.

Also I am not a quippy person it takes me forever to think of comebacks.

I wore my Deadpool kippah to service tonight. I’ve worn it before but its been a while.

We had just finished with singing Lecha Dodi and the 85 year old lady behind me taps me on the shoulder and whispers

“Issy…your yarmulke…I’ve been staring at it trying to place it. Its that Deathpool character isn’t it?”

I nodded and said something about Deadpool and the movie.

She says “Oh yeah we saw it. Ryan Reynolds has a firm tuchas.”

There was a beat of silence and I blurted out. “I quite like the front view too.”

She stares at me, laughs, pats my hand and calls me precious.

Guys….I can never show my face again.

so I live and work somewhere with no other jews except for this one guy, who is my friend, and we are taking a class together.  we have group presentations and every group has to bring food.  one of the other people in the class very graciously asked if he can make pork sausage or if there were people who don’t eat pork (knowing that there are two jews in the class.) before I could say anything, the guy turns around and loudly goes “ummmmm well I will eat the pork” and then turns to me and sorta smirks and stares at me in front of everyone because he knows that I don’t eat pork... so then i told him that it made me uncomfortable and he blew me off.

i’m so upset.  i already feel so isolated here and like i’m weird and out of place and now i feel even more so, especially because he’s the person i would’ve expected to have my back.  i feel like garbage.

So all of Detroit public schools are going to close after April 8th if there’s no funding and there’s definitely no money so I guess the school to prison pipeline is now completely removing schools from the equation here.

When Gaza isn’t being bombed. People still suffer.

Gaza has been placed under blockade for the past 10 years, by Israel and Egypt, imprisoning almost 2 million Palestinians.

Electricity in the Gaza Strip is only provided for 6 hours a day and it might get worse after Egypt has disconnected the power lines powering the Southern part of the Gaza Strip.

Homes are not the only one suffering from power shortage, but also schools and hospitals; where a patient could die because a simple procedure cannot be done on them.

I went to visit my Jewish high school today and found this in the bathroom. The girls told me they have them in every room in the school. Apparently, a man in a car has been hanging out outside the Jewish schools in Montreal, taking notes on what time the children have lunch and recess. Jewish kids across the city aren’t allowed going out for recess or lunch anymore. Isn’t this just #jewishprivilege?

I’m so scared. I am so, so scared.
