when people learn that Batman and Batwoman are different mantles with different meanings attached to their existence, different legacies to leave, different sets of affiliated supporting characters, and different rogues galleries that have very little to do with each other and aren't just gender-specific titles for the same superhero I will finally know peace

a character who doesn't know they're about to pass out becaue they've never done it before. rather than saying "I feel faint" or something, they say "I feel a little weird." they only sit because another character points out that they look pale and tells them to sit or lie down.

I'm golden-child!Jason and not-even-a-silver-egg!Dick truther for life, and that's so funny.
Bruce is used to the chaos he calls his son, so when Jason actually behave, Bruce is soooo confused.
Like, what do you mean Bruce can tell him to not do something and Jason will??? Obey??? The order??? Dick would never.
Bruce, fully prepared for scandal: You are not allowed to jump from one wardrobe to another, it's dangerous for you.
Little Jason, who has no idea why he should: Ok? I wasn't planning to anyway.
Confused Bruce: You wasn't?
Little Jason who are scared to touch anything here, because it probably costs more than his life: I don't want to ruin the mansion...
More Confused Bruce: You don't?!
Or
Bruce: so, you are saying that if I tell you to sit in your room and read books, you will really sit in your room and read books?
Little Jason, who has no idea why he shouldn't: Yeah?
Bruce, whispering to Alfred: I didn't know they could do that.

I have more Thoughts
kate retiring as Batwoman is a fun idea but I also just…can’t think of any job she can get outside of extremely confidential military and law enforcement work (she has a drunk socialite public image to conceal Batwoman, and if she’s in her early thirties like in detective comics, she’s…fucked, trying to make herself seem appealing when the press has been portraying her as a hot mess since the West Point mess) and she’d never wanna just like, stay home. That said, I can see her starting a non-profit or getting a degree online while raising the kid)
Kate would need to be talked into holding the baby for the first time out of a fear of dropping it (it doesn’t take that long, but she refused to carry the baby standing up or without a soft surface below for the first like, hour)
Renee would keep working, Harvey Bullock would stand-in uncle too (fake begrudgingly, of course)
They’d wait to have kids “late” (mid thirties, maybe)
They’d live in the suburbs outside Gotham, not in the city (they’ve both seen way too much Gotham crime)
There’s a term for it, one that I’m forgetting, but basically whether people have a big family is a cycle (“I want a big family” leads to a kid saying “damn that was miserable I’m gonna have a small family”, which then leads to a grandkid who wants a big family, so on a so forth), so Roderick had few siblings, Jacob had a relatively big family, and Kate had only one sister, so she’d want a relatively big family (3-4 kids), but probably with decent-sized age gaps (4-6 years each)
Assuming Kate does retire from batwoman (bc I totally see your point), she’d probably go the philanthropist route. She likes helping people (Jason Morley saying “isn’t this where you’re needed most?” During Kate’s training when she was complaining about not doing enough combat instead of helping in a humanitarian hospital resonated with her)
Kate and Renee as parents? (headcanon reboot)
Just a little backstory on my headcanon reboot. An important aspect is that, unlike actual comics, it is close-ended. Heroes will eventually retire. Most (not all) couples don't do the hamster-wheel of get together-break up- get back together. Some villains are redeemed, and they stay redeemed instead of flip=flopping over and over. This is relevant for Beth Kane, as she will be redeemed and slip into normal life.
Now, I prefer Kate/Renee to Kate/Maggie - it was the first ship I read with Kate, and I prefer Maggie in Metropolis. So, they had their historical break up, and despite some rough going, make a success of their relationship fairly early in Batwoman's days.
The question I have is whether to ever make them parents. Opinions? I do have some ground rules I came up with after asking opinions about Kate as a mom before:
She has to have an infant or young child - I do not want her copying Bruce (or so many others, but they were kinda copying Batman for sales) and taking in a sidekick-aged kiddo. I want her different, rather than taking that path. Per previous comment, Cadmus tech totally allows same sex couples to have children that biologically belong to both parents.
Secondly, I want her to be retired from Batwoman before becoming a parent. Given her childhood, she doesn't want her child to be endangered or traumatized by the danger her work brings - not sure what that means for Renee's work, though. Also, she became Batwoman when she was lost and adrift, and it sort of gave her purpose and direction - I like the idea that she doesn't need that anymore to have direction and goals and not be self-destructive (which doesn't mean she can't still enjoy it).
So, do they have kids or not? And, if so, at what age/after how long as heroes (depending on if Montoya becomes the Question)? Do they adopt or use Cadmus tech or use artificial insemination or ROPA? If they use Cadmus tech, does either carry the baby, or do they just let it grow in a vat and then come pick it up when it's done? If artificial insemination/ROPA, then which has the pregnancy?

I’m so interested in this
Okay, so I agree that Kate would take a break from Batwoman to raise a young kid, but I can see her re-entering the field once said kid is a little older (circa 10, maybe a little older than that), not out of a need for purpose but pivoting to a “I want to create a safe world for you to live in”. Let’s be honest—-Kate is like, a fourth generation military brat and most Kanes seem to be roughly similar in personality (“Kane women are made of granite” by Jacob, not to mention the whole “we stand together” motto). Kids/teenagers are inquisitive, and with almost exclusively Kane influences (Renee’s family isn’t around since her coming out), you’d probably wind up with yet ANOTHER Kate-Jacob-Roderick clone personality. Stubborn, rigid, protective, passionate, driven. I also can’t see Kate being the one to carry, if she had the option not to. She’d love to raise a kid, but being in anything but Peak Physical Condition™️ and not having the ability to protect against even imaginary threats doesn’t seem like it would appeal to her.
As for surname, I feel like they’d hyphenate (Kane-Montoya) or just keep Kane for their kids, primarily because again, Renee doesn’t get along with her family at all, and I think they’d use CADMUS (I feel like distant Kane relatives have that “the fortune needs a biological heir” mentality, and Kate & Renee wouldn’t want their kids to even get a hint of not being accepted after what Renee had to go through).
Beth would be a great aunt (and mom, probably!) with the wildest stories, and of course, Jacob & Cathy would love having a little kid around again (Jacob needs something to babysit/chase after, and if Kate isn’t batwoman, he’d have the option to constantly beg for sleepovers (and get them, probably) or just finally experience the woes of empty nester life.

Thinking about the JL finding out that Bruce has contingency plans for all of his kids and being horrified. But when the League asks them about it, all the kids are like “yeah! we actually all have them for each other just in case” and move on like it’s perfectly normal to have three different ways to take out your brother on hand (for emergencies).
