"It's stupid to think gwen is trans just bc her room turns to the colors of the trans flag when she's making a speech about identity and acceptance" is such a funny thing to say about an animated movie that uses every tool and method to illustrate or reinforce a message.

maybe it wasn't what the animators and writers and directors were intending, but everyone analyzes this movie beyond the text — which is common and expected with every movie, especially animation — so why is it only such a problem and a stretch when trans people relate to gwen's character and journey?

"she's not trans in the comics" she's also not a ballerina, she doesn't have her hair shaved, she's an adult there, etc. the spiderverse movies are a different version of those characters, a different interpretation. (not to mention it was never stated spider-gwen was cis in the comics, you guys just treat cis people as the default.)

no one is pointing a gun to your head and telling you what to do or think. you just feel threatened by the idea because you don't like to see your favorite characters as trans :)
