6 p.m. and I'm done calculating the cash owned by the said official, his steward and his son, who, along with a host of others from their household staff, couldn't escape the confiscation process. Of course this included deciphering the script of three separate documents with varying degrees of difficulty, conversion of multiple curriencies into a single one to enable comparisons, and lots of cross-referencing to make sure I don't make a fool out of myself in the end. Next? I'm thinking I'll tackle the real estate... but not today.
Well, then. Back to work: starting on Article #1, the probate inventory of a disgraced state official. Horses, a wealth of riches in trappings, an estate in the country, and a ridiculous story of "catch me if you can" to boot. Thrilling.

I had to look over my dissertation to look up some reference, and now I'm in a foul mood. I'm deeply unhappy about parts of the dissertation even though it was obviously approved, and keep having to tell myself a finished dissertation is better than a perfect one.
I hope I'll get over it one day.

I still get a rush of anxiety/excitement when colleagues reach out to "ask something" about my research. As it happened today. Takes a little while to calm down.

Declined it by email. I'm terrified they'll call again instead of write. I'll do anything to avoid a phone call.
First post-phd academic job interview tomorrow. Eeep!

Got a second call back. If they do end up offering me the job, I honestly don't know if I'd accept. The campus is way too far away, it'd be a horrible commute, and I'm really not sure I'd like to offer the class they seem to want me to.
On the other hand, I need a job.
Adulthood is hard.

On a tangential note: endnotes are the worst, and even more annoying in a PDF than they are in a printed book. Hate hate hate hate hate. Why do publishers insist on fucking endnotes over the obviously superior footnote.
