Funfact #1
If Althaea could, she would join the Equestrian club. Unfortunately, she would grow to not like it (not the activity, the students) but not have enough courage to withdraw from it.

Althaea Xiloscient
“...so they had to go, and so they did.”
!! WARNING !! GRAPHIC CONTENT !!
This contains graphic content. Said content does not go *too* much into detail, but it’s still meant to put the image of a very... painful scene in your head. Please read this with caution.
(AN: Any sort of world building/lore mentioned in her backstory is not canon in Twisted Wonderland. In fact, I pulled it out of my ass. The reason for this is because I usually write my oc backstories in a way that has nothing to do with the canon characters, so I had to...pull some strings. Also, funfact - This is actually my DND character that I just....twistified.)
Name: Althaea Xiloscient
Age: 18 (Fae Years, Third Year)
Dorm: Diasomnia
Backstory: Althaea was born in Briar Valley and is the youngest of the Xiloscient family. This was a noble family of fairies that were well known for the knights that had this last name.
Althaea was the result of a scandalous affair between her father and a chambermaid. Now, this wouldn’t have been a problem at first because all of her siblings shared a signature family trait, which were their father’s wings. Despite being born with her mother’s wing design, the people around town simply racked it up to “the gene skipped her”.  With that being said, it truly wasn’t a worry. However, she was treated differently, but it was subtle to most.
She grew up in a noble environment with her siblings. She took attique classes, weapon training, magic practice, you name it. As she grew, she was known for her proficiency in melee combat, and with this in mind many expected her to grow up to become a knight or paladin for the briar valley. Some even went as far to say that she would end up working under the queen, but that was usually said as hyperbole praise.
Her life was easy, but it was also different from her other siblings. While her sisters and brother got extra magic training, she was often sent for extra melee practice. This was because her father had every intention to send her off as a paladin because he had gotten away with the adultery he committed. Life was good at this time. Her parents and siblings were a little distant, but other than that life was good. That was, until a certain bit of news got leaked.
The chambermaid had made a deal with the lady of the house. She told her the truth about Althaea’s bloodline, and the deal was that she would continue to work at the manor so that she could watch her child grow, and in exchange she would keep her mouth shut. However, up until this point that chambermaid had a building resentment towards the entire family, and in a way Althaea was included.
When Althaea had her 17th birthday, a small rumor had mysteriously spread. The rumor was that Althaea had a different mother, and that would imply that her father had cheated. This didn’t bode well with Althaea’s father, since it was the truth. To preserve his reputation he would often deny the rumor and simply say that his wing pattern had simply skipped Althaea. The townsfolk bought the excuse for a while, until the chambermaid revealed her wing pattern.
The day that happened, gossip spread like a forest fire. Everyone knew what Althaea's wings looked like, and upon seeing the chambermaid’s wings they immediately were able to piece the truth together because they were carbon copies of each other. It became too obvious. Althaea’s father tried to use his old excuse but it began to work less and less as time passed. At this point, everyone had begun to speculate that her father had cheated.
The rumors were getting bad, and by the time Althaea turned 18, her father had made his final decision. He deduced that the source of the rumors were because of Althaea’s wings, so they had to go…and so they did.
One night, a few months after t8th Althaea’s birthday she was simply studying in her room. She knew where her future would lead and she was content with it. She honestly wanted nothing more than to be a knight, protecting the valley that raised her. Eventually she went to bed, putting her books away and blowing out the candle as she tucked herself in. A peaceful and refreshing sleep awaited her….until her window was broken.
An assassin, hired by her father, had broken in. She fought back, of course she did, but in the end she didn’t escape unscathed. She was able to use her magic to immobilize the assassin, but they didn’t go down empty handed. See, Althaea is a heavy sleeper. In fact, the thing that woke her up was the searing pain of iron against her back as her wings were ripped from her body.
Fortunately, her screams of pain woke up everyone and their goldfish, so she got help in time, but they were still too late and her wings were gone. Her father got to act out the role of a devastated parent while behind the scenes, and the chambermaid was killed. As for the assassin, they were taken into custody and killed for their crime. Duke Xiloscient, Althaea’s father, had gotten off scott free.
The townspeople were too wrapped up in the tragedy to even remember the rumors, and the idea of Althaea’s father cheating was never heard again.
3 months later, and she’s still healing. Duke Xiloscient was going to just leave it at this, but someone had tried to rekindle the rumor. He swiftly took care of that person, but to prevent any more people from trying to bring it back he got into contact with Dire Crowley. A week of letters being sent back and forth later, and Althaea suddenly had an invite to Night Raven College, along with the guarantee that she would be studying in the dorm led by one of the most powerful mages.
“Time flies when you’re in pain I suppose.” Althaea had muttered to herself as she got into the carriage some time later. The day she left was seen as bittersweet and rewarding by everyone around her, but in her head it was the worst thing that ever happened to her. All she could think about was the painful absence on her back, and the present realization that she would never get to do one of her favorite pastimes again.
When she arrived at NRC, she was sorted into Diasomnia as promised. Being enrolled late led her to be the only one at the mirror chamber when she was sorted.
Appearance: Althaea has brown skin that’s littered with freckles. Her eyes are a deep green with little gold flecks in them. She has navy blue hair that has a middle part and is long and very wavy/almost curly, and she wears it in a high ponytail with the two front pieces hanging loose. She has a neutral resting face expression on at most times. She has a feminine frame and stands at 5”11.
Personality, Mannerisms, & Likes: Insomniac. Reserved. Noble. Proper. Fidgety. These are the words that I would use to describe Althaea in a way. She doesn’t like to speak much and often keeps her answers short and to the point. She would much rather listen than to speak. She tends to walk with her back straight at all times, and if you look closely enough there's the slightest bit of discomfort or pain in her eyes. She tends to avoid having things on her back because it’s still healing and is very sore. One thing that you can often see her doing is twirling her magic pen in her fingers and maybe twiddling with the ends of her hair or blazer out of boredom. Also, one thing to note is that ever since the incident she has had a very difficult time falling asleep, so she tends to stay up. She does have dark circles but she covers that up with makeup. She also has a potent sense of smell. Speaking of smell, some of the things that she likes are mainly smell based. She likes the smell of apples, peaches, strawberries, black berries, oranges, just any fragrant fruit. As for taste, she really doesn’t pay much attention to it most of the time unless you tell her to. One thing she doesn’t like however, is physical touch (i.e hugs, handshakes, pats on the back/head, etc.). Especially without her permission. Do not try to hug her. She has fidgety reflexes. If you try to “surprise hug” her it will end one of two ways. She either quickly moves out the way, or flips you upside down. Luckily, it’s usually the first option.
Voice: Her voice is very smooth and elegant. You can kind of pick up a very subtle accent but you can’t figure out which one, it just sounds noble. Her voice is a bit deeper than you’d expect as well. It also happens to be a little scratchy due to the lack of use.
Unique Magic: Summon Thy Sword - Allows her to turn her magic pen into a sword, giving her the ability to cast magic through it and fight melee if needed.
