"I'd always felt lonely, even before. This was a new feeling, like.. a terror, that I'd always be alone now. And then, as I got older, that feeling just solidified. Just a knot, here, all the time. And then losing them, it just got tangled up with all the other stuff about being gay, and just feeling like the future doesn't matter. Does that make sense?"

motaz azaiza just posted a video of israeli officers indiscriminately shooting at civilians (and him) as they tried to run away. he and bisan and all other on-site journalists are living in a nightmare simulator just so they could be the ears and eyes of gaza—and yet we still have people who’re “considering whether this is any of their concern” “uninformed so they refuse to speak” “choosing to stay neutral.” motaz was one of the journalists who basically posted their eulogies earlier this week. this can’t get any more horrifying and dystopian. we need a ceasefire.

the municipality of gaza announced it has to halt all waste collection and sewage treatment operations because of the war…..many have said it already but the long-lasting impact this war is going to have on the health of palestinians in gaza can’t be overstated. i think about water stations being targeted by israeli bombers, about the millions of displaced palestinians sharing limited bathrooms, about bisan sharing that she’s been very sick. i think about how contagious covid still is even with normal access to resources like clean water, medication, masks, i think about how many are rightfully concerned about the transmission rates in the us and other countries with relaxed restrictions. where are those people now???

His love for Gaza shone through in his photographs, seen in his steadfast portrayals of joy and beauty. Whimsical compositions by the sea depict young boys jumping and playing. In a series of works focused on his grandmother, a survivor of the 1948 Nakba who was displaced from her native village of Isdud, Arandas portrays her as a symbol of strength and perseverance in Gaza, zooming in on her weathered hands harvesting olives against deep fertile earth. Traces of personal and cultural histories can be seen in the crisp light of ripe olives and the details of intricate embroidery adorning her hanging dress.
“Where can I begin talking about Gaza and Palestine, and how can I begin when I know that I am the living dead? Everyone who writes about Palestine has prepared himself to be among the dead, but despite our prior knowledge of our fate when we write and write about this land, we do not stop or for a moment hesitate to inhale her love,” he reflected.

Tear Along the Dotted Line has my stomach in knots. Like I have never heard of Zerocalcare before watching it but man this one person was able to make a piece of art that I resonated with and got emotionally assaulted by, with all six episodes having something in it that just blew my mind. I think everyone I know needs to watch it

How Trapped Palestinians Fell in Love With Bird-Watching

The Israeli left is, by and large, interested primarily in an Israel that is better for *them* and that isn’t so overtly genocidal, not a binational Palestine. There are individual exceptions to this rule, I do know some Israeli antizionists, but on an organizational level, even those orgs that report accurately on violence against Palestinians are doing so with the intention of preserving the Israeli state. Being anti-Netanyahu in particular is absolutely not to be taken as a sign of being anti-Zionist. Plenty of staunch self-identified Zionists hate Netanyahu.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, even at its most left-leaning, Israel ethnically cleansed and massacred Palestinians; for example, the Nakba happened under the leadership of Ben Gurion, a labor Zionist and Israel’s first PM, but you can look to early Israeli leaders, the socialist kibbutzim, and the current left-wing parties for more examples. Netanyahu isn’t the problem. The problem is the state of Israel. Settler states like the US, Canada, Australia, Israel etc were founded on the subjugation of colonized peoples, including internally colonized people. This won’t change through elections. This will change with a new paradigm, one where Palestinians have the right of return and people of all ethnicities can live as equal citizens between the Jordan river and the Mediterranean Sea. This, by the way, is what the Palestinian left has advocated consistently.
