y'all even IF (IF because we literally know NOTHING yet!!!) mirador means that gvf will be going on a temporary hiatus, they literally have a double album in the works. they're not done. and why would you be pissed at jake for taking fun little side quests along the way of HIS dream!!!!! (yes, it's the other three's dream too, but they also have side projects they've done too! and that didn't mean gvf was breaking up!) not to mention the fact, that, personally, i think they could use the well-deserved vacay from their current tour-studio-tour cycle
Josh Kiszka x Fem!reader - Enemies to Lovers College!AU
When originally deciding to be a film and visual arts student, Y/N had thought her biggest issue would be getting a job after college. She hadnât known that the other people in her major would actually be her greatest obstacle to completing her degree.
So this photo is insane and likely not accurate to the time that this would be set. However, IDC and he looks beautiful.
Separately, here is my College!AU Enemies to Lovers Josh fic... I started working on this over a year ago and really it's silly because I lost the feeling that I wanted him to be mean so maybe it loses steam, idk let me know what yall think pls and reblogs appreciated - lots of love xoxo etc. more to come.
Summary: Forced together by fate or maybe just scheduling, Josh and Y/N can't stand being in the same room together. Unfortunately, with classes and her shifts at the Lover's Inn, it seems that Josh is in her life more than ever. Can hate turn into love or has something been there since the beginning?

When originally deciding to be a film and visual arts student, Y/N had thought her biggest issue would be getting a job after college. She hadnât known that the other people in her major would actually be her greatest obstacle to completing her degree.
It wasnât that everyone was annoying. Sure, film students could be a lot, especially for Y/N when she was planning on going into costuming and styling rather than other production aspects. There were just a few overzealous students who seemed to get under her skin more than others.Â
Namely, Josh M. Kiszka. He was talented in many respects, begrudgingly she would admit that. However, his annoyances and shortcomings outweighed his talents tenfold. One spark of genius would cause ten pitfalls and plot holes, leaving a forest fire of destruction in his wake.Â
His curly hair was disturbingly trimmed leaving a small rat tail at the nape of his neck for the majority of the time she had known him âat the beginning of this year he had finally cut it and seemed to be trying to grow it out but she didnât care. He was absurd and even disturbing at times. His smile took up too much of his face when he grinned maniacally. And she could go on.Â
Now, being in the same major as someone could be irritating at times, but in reality sharing one to two classes a semester shouldnât be the end of the world. Sometimes it certainly felt like it with Josh since it seemed like he turned everything up to an 11 on purpose. A bursting zipper was a catastrophe, the wrong colored shirt was the work of the devil. But realistically, she only shouldâve seen him at most eight hours out of her week â if she could avoid being paired with him for any group projects. She could do eight hours of him droning on about the intricacies of a film and chattering away about his new big idea.Â
What she couldnât do was essentially work for him. And she didnât work for him. At all. But he certainly seemed to think so every Thursday night.Â
The first time Josh Kiszka walked into the green room at Loverâs Inn, the college town's local venue made for serious music and serious drinking, while Y/N was working, she thought it was some sick joke. She chalked it up to the fact that her karma must be god awful and this was her cosmic punishment.Â
She had worked there for two years before this, consistently doing backstage work happily for the experience of potentially helping musicians with costuming and styling if they ever took her up on her offer. Mostly, her job consisted of fulfilling riders and babysitting.Â
On this fated Thursday, it was raining as the fading summer quickly turned into a blustery fall. The trees faded quickly, changing just as fast as they had blossomed. The biting cold of the rain had soaked her hair so when she burst through the stage right door, a spray of rain flew from her head as she gasped in the warm room temperature air.Â
First rain made people drive terribly, making her later than she wouldâve liked to set up the things requested by the band tonight. She was slightly bummed that because she was rushing, she might not have a chance to offer her assistance with styling of the new band, but she thought sheâd just ask to help them out at a later date since her manager had told her that if they played well tonight they were going to get the recurring Thursday night spot.Â
Greta Van Fleet was their name, which she thought was cool, but given their rider, she had a funny feeling that they were probably like most local Michigan bands, mediocre at best, creeps at worst.Â
The two cases of beers as well as some strange hippie bullshit snacks gave her the inkling of what to expect.Â
The moment she hears her name from a particular voice, a pit of dread opens up in her stomach. She didnât know exactly why he was here but she knew instantly that tonight was going to be a long, long night. She finished straightening out the tea corner the band had requested and swiveled around to face the curly-haired bastard. The stupid smirk was already on his lips and his eyes were full of the tell-tale mischief that came with Josh.Â
âYou got a crush on me or something?â He quirks his head with a raise of his eyebrows. âWhat are you doing here?âÂ
Josh knew she didnât have a crush on him. Quite the opposite of it, but he loved to see her get furious with him. It brought him insurmountable joy.Â
âNever in your most self-serving, indulgent fantasies,â She seethes and juts a hip and folds her arms across her chest, taking on a defensive stance immediately. âI work here, Josh. What are you doing here?âÂ
He grins, taking a few more steps into the room before pausing and looking around for a moment. His eyes cast around the worn leather couches, the two rugs mismatched and covering one another, a circular coffee table that had clearly seen too much cocaine in its heyday, and the table filled with snacks and drinks perfectly placed for his bandâs amusement, before returning to his classmate staring at him with an appalled but also concerned face.Â
âWork, of sorts,â He shrugs, the smile never leaving his face. âMoreso play.âÂ
She rolls her eyes but feels her breath hitch as Josh crosses the room further, coming extremely close to her. Her eyes widen as he continues to smile at her with an innocence she knew was an act. It doesnât leave his intensely sculpted face that was unseasonably tanned for Michigan, even if summer had just ended. His hand reaches out to the right of her frame and plucks a fruit snack pack from the basket she had placed them in five minutes prior.Â
âThose are forââÂ
âThe band?â He asks, his head cocked to the side once more, after finishing tearing the bag open with nimble fingers. âThanks, by the way, lover. You got my favorite brand.âÂ
The pure joy Josh had just found in seeing her face contort in disgust at the nickname he had just come up with meant it wasnât going away anytime soon. He thought he was clever for calling her something inaccurate yet also fitting since her place of work was called Loverâs Inn. In his eyes, it was perfect.Â
âYouâre notâŠâ She trails off seeing the delight in Joshâs features.Â
He nods, not taking a step back from her personal space and popping an organic fruit snack into his smug mouth. âI am. The lead singer, actually.âÂ
She turns back around to remove herself from the close proximity of Josh. âYouâre just bullshitting me,â She mutters, shaking her head, refusing to believe him despite her knowing realistically, it was likely true.Â
âNo ââ His next thought, likely one to continue his aggravating crusade, was cut off by someone elseâs voice.Â
âJosh, yâknow you could help with the drum kit, like youâre supposed to,â A younger man with long flowing locks complains as he carries in two bass cases. His hair was damp, but drying, signifying the rain was subsiding. Joshâs hair had given no indication of the weather due to the drying but jarringly yellow umbrella that lay abandoned by the door.Â
Once the cases are carefully set down in a corner of the room, he realizes that Josh was not alone. He uses a hand to flip his long hair back from his face and regards the other person in the room, coming to Joshâs side.Â
âHey,â He sticks the same hand out and has a goofily familiar grin on his face. âIâm Sam.âÂ
She takes his hand, telling him her name while giving his hand a shake before letting go rather quickly, she was confused.Â
âYouâre in the band,â She confirms to Sam, who nods affirmatively. âAnd Josh is in it too?â She asks more skeptically.Â
âSure is,â Sam looks at Josh quickly before smiling again, like an all knowing fox. âHe likes to act like weâre already famous and donât have to load our own equipment, but weâll be lucky to score this gig, JaââÂ
âOkay, Sammy,â Josh cuts the younger boy off. âIâll come out and help, just, shut the hell up.âÂ
Y/N quirks her head as she watches them shuffle back out of the same door she had come through twenty minutes prior, watching the way they interact with one another. She goes back to finishing up the table. It looked fine, but she still felt the need to turn all of the fruit snacks so that they were facing forward and make sure the extras of things she had bought were clearly accessible.Â
Another younger guy with curlier hair walked in while she was still fussing over the table, a part of a drum kit on his back and a drawstring backpack in his hand.Â
âIâm Danny,â He introduces quickly after shuffling off the large equipment bag and placing it on the outside of the green room door that leads to the rest of the venue. âDrummer.âÂ
She nods and introduces herself once more, directing him to the table of the fulfilled rider items and that she was around to answer any questions that werenât specifically technical. Her job, after fulfilling the rider, was handling the band before and after they performed, essentially. She attempted to make that more styling and costume related, but in reality she just was there to make sure no one got too hammered before going out on the stage and no one passed out in the green room afterwards. It was a small venue and therefore a small crew but thankfully, she didnât have to worry about the instruments as well. Just the people.Â
When Josh returned to the room through the side door, she was still waiting at the entrance. Her body leaned against the inner frame of the door. It was shut to keep the noise of the rest of the venue out of here, and vice versa. She didnât want to be in the room any longer than she had to be, but she needed to check off with the entirety of the band. It was to ensure that all of them were here prior to their set and to check in with them about anything else they might need. Now that she knew Josh was in the band, she really wished she could just leave. She certainly was not going to ask about styling, she already had her allotment of fighting over clothing with Josh for the week in class on Tuesday.Â
The surprising thing about Joshâs arrival is the second copy of him that appears behind him. Like the first stranger, he had long stringy brown hair and slopey dark brown eyes. Unlike Sam, however, he was literally identical to Josh. One realization came to her silently, Sam was Joshâs little brother, thatâs why his grin had been so unnervingly familiar.Â
This man, just two steps behind Josh, though, he was more than familiar. He was the spitting image of Josh except for his hair.Â
She canât stop this realization from being audible. As the two of them stand practically side by side as they converse with one another, seeming to almost mirror one another, she blurts out words before she can think twice.Â
âTwins!â Her voice sounds overjoyed at the realization that they were identical. There was a hopeful glinting look in her eyes as her hands clasp in front of her and she smiles. The fact that Josh was a pain in her ass is forgotten for a moment because she finds it so interesting and unbelievable that identical twins were standing before her and that she had known one all along without knowing it.Â
Josh stops speaking mid-sentence to regard her and heâs surprised by her reaction. The twin looks perplexed as well with a raised left eyebrow. She is wowed once more.Â
Josh says her name and hands Danny the rest of his drum kit. âThis is my other brother, Jake.âÂ
âAnd youâre twins? Identical?â She repeats after Jake waves.Â
âI think you know the answer to that,â Josh throws his hands up in a theatric flourish adding to the condescending tone.Â
Jake replies far more cordially. âWhat Josh means to say is, yes we are identical twins. Thanks for noticing.âÂ
âIâm sorry,â She back tracks, remembering the situation and laughing, still feeling off-kilter. âIâve known Josh for two unbelievably long years and heâs never mentioned once that he has an identical twin brother that heâs in a band with â and he talks enough for it to have come up at least once.âÂ
Josh rolls his eyes with a huff of breath, deciding that he wants to continue helping with their equipment and belongings rather than listen to what he was sure was about to turn into a âshit on Joshâ situation.Â
Jakeâs laughter is loud and unadulterated as he crosses the room towards Y/N with the same smile his brothers had, except his didnât make her want to wring his neck. âHeâs always talked too much, I can asure you that. What makes you clearly an unwilling acquaintance of his?âÂ
The grin on her face feels like itâs taking up the entire room. Already, Joshâs twin was leaps and bounds ahead of him in terms of how much she wanted to be around this person. She also liked his hair, it was long and pretty, maybe it needed a good shampoo and condition but it didnât have a rat tail, which was the biggest plus in her book. When Josh had returned this school year without it, she had rejoiced but also been slightly dismayed that she hadnât had the satisfaction of snipping it off herself. On several occasions, she remembered waking up with a triumphant smile after cutting it off in some of her more vivid dreams. She wasnât completely sure if she could be trusted with scissors around Josh so maybe it was better in the end.Â
âWeâre the same major, unfortunately.âÂ
âOh,â Jakeâs voice holds deep understanding. âIâm sure that can be a lot. I used to help out on his films when we were in high school, so I know heâsâŠpassionate.âÂ
She snorts and shakes her head, acknowledging what he had said before once again remembering she was working. âYeah, thatâs one way of putting it.â She casts her eyes around the room and sees that the four guys are all in the room. Josh had returned and was trying and failing to look like he wasnât eavesdropping on her and Jakeâs conversation. âAnyways, now that I know youâre all here, I can leave you be. Just let me know if thereâs anything you need before your set. The techs will come in around,â She pauses looking at her watch. â7:00 to have yâall go set up and go over that kind of stuff. You need to be out on that stage at 8, no ifâs, andâs or butâs. Also, if you do get the recurring slot, Iâd love to help yâall with styling if youâd be interested since thatâs more my expertise.â
She hears Josh snort at her last sentence but she pointedly ignores it, only looking at the other three band members.Â
âHow do we find you if we need something?â Sam asks, settling into the darkest brown leather couch like a lanky puppy, all limbs and no idea how to control them gracefully. Â
âI, uh,â She stops, realizing she normally handed out her phone number since she hated the radios they were supposed to use. For some reason, giving her number to Joshâs band made her uneasy and then she remembered with a sigh. âJosh has my number from previous group projects, assuming he knows how to use his phone he should be able to give it to you.âÂ
âWhatâs your number again?âÂ
âYou donât have me saved?â Sheâs exasperated to say the least and a little offended otherwise. They had quite literally been paired in a duo group project their first week of college, two years ago. If he hadnât saved her number after all this time, sheâs sure she would strangle him.
âI think I do,â He looks down at his phone, scrolling through something, âjust double checking something.âÂ
âGive me your phone,â She rolls her eyes and places the palm of her hand out waiting for the weight of Joshâs phone to be felt. She types in her number into the search bar of his contacts. The names dwindle until only âAugustâ pops up. She finishes typing the entire number and the name âAugustâ is still staring back at her on the screen. She looks between the phone and Josh a few times before clicking the name and verifying that it was her phone number.Â
âWhy the fuck do you have me as âAugustâ in your phone?âÂ
Josh grins triumphant and satisfied. When she glares at him, he shrugs and plucks the phone back from her grasp. âWe met in August, I didnât remember your name from class and I didnât bother to ask. By the time I knew it, I couldnât be bothered to change it.â
âYou canât be serious?âÂ
âIs Lover better or worse than August? Because Iâm willing to change it to that,â He continues looking at her with that wolfish look in his eye.Â
âI fucking hate you.â She says with a shake of her head before addressing the rest of the room again. âWell, if any of you three need me, donât hesitate to find me down the hall or get my number from the gremlin that fronts your band and shoot me a text. Josh, do not bother me.âÂ
âOnly in my dreams, I know, lover.â Josh mimics being shot by an arrow in his heart and stumbles back before winking evilly at her.Â
âRight,â She sighs heavily and tries to smile lightly at the other three who offer her sympathetic smiles back. âIâll be back at 7:45 if no one needs me before then.âÂ
A chorus of thanks follows her out the door and she ignores Joshâs voice again as she goes. Itâs pitched up and honeyed sweet and it makes her sick.Â
That was the first night. They had been good. Joshâs voice was surprisingly amazing and the rest of them were talented with their instruments. Jake was especially good on the guitar. She tried to focus on the instruments rather than Joshâs voice but it was almost impossible to listen to just one piece of their music, they all complemented each other so well. Even Joshâs voice didnât overpower but finished the rest of the music being made.Â
They had also been clean and on time. Two things her manager liked even more than a good sounding band that amassed a crowd was a good sounding band that didnât require a lot of assistance or cleaning up after. Greta Van Fleet secured the recurring Thursday night gig at Loverâs Inn. Which ensured that she got to endure more Josh Kiszka in her life than ever before.Â
They would fight in class and bicker during group projects that they got paired for and then to end her week just perfectly, sheâd have Josh at her place of work, continuing to push her buttons and attempting to boss her around.Â
He delighted in calling her âLoverâ and being a nuisance when she was trying to help one of his bandmates. He always had issues with the vests and belts she found for him, despite them being exactly what he asked for, if not better. And he always, always had that stupid smug smirk on his face when he was around her.Â
In the middle of the semester, the film and visual arts third years were assigned a very intensive project. It could be alone or in groups but you had to do it all if you did it alone. As luck would have it or maybe it was just a cruel joke being played on her by the rest of the department, she and Josh were the only two not paired up who didnât want to work alone. She contemplated doing it all on her own, but she knew she wasnât the strongest writer and with the rest of her classes and the Loverâs Inn gig keeping her busy, she had to swallow her pride. Bite the bullet that was Josh Kiszka now entering another part of her life: her life away from both school and work.Â
They had looked at one another with dismay in their eyes. Even Josh couldnât spin this as a way to torture her, this was genuinely not his ideal scenario for an important project either. They departed class on Wednesday with a sighing compromise that they would talk about it after the gig on Thursday.Â
On Thursday, Josh arrived first out of his band mates to the green room. She was there, finishing up unloading the grocery bags and double checking the cleanliness of the room. Even if Josh was a pain in her ass, she didnât let her negative feelings for him change how she did her job.Â
âWell if it isnât my number one fan, lover!â Josh greets, resting his backpack at the edge of the couch closest to the side stage door.Â
She sighed. She rejoiced on the Thursdays when it was one of the others to stroll through the door first, so that she wouldnât have to be alone with Josh anymore for the week. Bringing herself to face him was hard, she had already seen enough of him this week and after the big announcement in class yesterday, she really could do without hearing his voice.Â
âI know youâve probably heard this a lot before, so you should understand when I say ânot in the moodâ.âÂ
âOh lover, you wound me,â He gives her moon eyes before he rolls his eyes and walks around the room, continuing to place his stuff where he liked. The band had been working here for two months now and each of them had gotten into a groove. They had their spots and corners that they liked to chill in until it was time to get to work.Â
âDo you want your clothes or not?â She leans into her hip as she stares at him expectantly, waiting for him to stop messing around with the throw blanketâs tassels.Â
âIâd certainly go out and perform naked, Iâm sure lots of people would thank you for your brilliant idea. Me in my true glory.âÂ
She scoffs and crosses to her tote bag, dropped by the entrance. She shuffles through it for Joshâs new vest and the belt she found that matched it perfectly. The vest was tan with gold embellishments and looked like it would fit his small frame. The belt was also encrusted with gold broqaue and turquoise stones with a loud engraved buckle to finish it off.Â
With the pieces in hand, she crossed to his seat on the couch. Josh had his legs spread in a way that required her to stand between them or else she would have to lean awkwardly forward to give the clothes to him. She hated even the way he sat, making her life harder. He reclined back on the couch with his arms over the back of it, the light blue ratty t-shirt he wore stretched and strained over his biceps the way he was sitting. Her eye flickered to it for a split second in mild surprise, obviously he showed them off in the vests, but they seemed to bulge in their current state.Â
âLay it on me, lover,â He grins lazily up at her, one hand flipping up right and motioning for her to give it to him.Â
She shakes her head at him and drops them carelessly on his lap. The belt was heavy enough for him to make a groaning sound. Normally she would walk out of the room at this point, just to get a little bit of time away from Josh. The rest of the band was reliable and she knew theyâd all have arrived in the next ten minutes. However, something about Joshâs demeanor made her pause. It was something in the way his eyes looked.Â
Normally they were wide and bright with evil intentions. Today they still looked mischievous but a little more droopy, his movements a little less agile. She stares at his face, searching for the answer and noticing the way he just lets her.Â
âFinally decided you want some of this action, lover?â Josh mumbles, eyes fluttering closed as he lays his head back against the couch. âStopped denying your true feelingsâŠâÂ
She crouches down to be on the same level as Josh, her face getting close to his as she inspects him closely. One of her hands goes to his eyelid, as she leans over him, opening his eye manually.Â
âAre you fucking stoned, right now?âÂ
He swats her hand away from him and sits back up, pushing her back so that sheâs still crouched between his legs. His face looms above hers, the lazy grin still visible on his face, as she stares up at him. Their faces are an inch apart and the space is hot in the already warm room. Her eyes widened expectantly.Â
âShh, donât tell August, sheâll yell at me.âÂ
âI amâŠâ She pauses, realizing Josh was still fucking with her. She puts a hand to his chest and pushes him back against the couch, causing laughter to bubble from his lips. âFuck you, Josh.â She states, standing up again and stalking out of the room with a final. âWeed better not fuck up your singing, asshole.âÂ
âThanks for the vest, lover!âÂ
Besides strutting around the stage a bit more sluttily and carrying notes just a tad bit longer than necessary, high Josh functioned about the same as regular Josh. After the show, the band loaded up their gear once more in the back of Dannyâs van that they lovingly all called the Greta Van. Normally, Josh would hitch a ride home with him and Sam or hang around the front of house getting sloshed with his twin. Tonight, he begrudgingly sulked around the green room, informing his brothers that he âhad a meeting with the bosslady.âÂ
August had overheard it and rolled her eyes. âWeâre unfortunately partnered for an extremely important project. Iâm worried I made the wrong choice and shouldâve just gone it alone.âÂ
She grimaced as Jake wished her luck while Sammy and Dan gave her sympathetic gazes, mumbling their condolences.Â
âIt can only be as bad as we make it, lover.â Josh huffed, resuming his seat from earlier on the larger of the leather couches.Â
âAre you sober enough for us to begin planning now?â She glared and folded a leg behind her to take a seat on the far end of the same couch.Â
Josh scoffed with a flip of his hand. âOh câmon it was just a couple bowls before going on to perform art.â Josh trailed off, mumbling as he stared around the room.Â
âRepeat that?â She urged.Â
âItâs not like it was the first time,â He repeated louder but still softly.Â
She groaned. âGod, Josh.â She pressed a hand to her forehead. âYâknow what? Fuck if I care. Letâs just get our plan laid out so we can go home.âÂ
Josh nodded curtly. Her eyes flickered to his face in surprise that he didnât protest.Â
âOkay,â She started, speaking cautiously. âIâll obviously take the lead on costuming and you on writing, but weâll need to collaborate on directing and creative direction. Do you have any ideas for stories you want to tell?âÂ
Josh hummed, head falling to the back of the couch in contemplation. âCults, a modern Greek tragedy, a bar comedy âwe could set it right here, erh star-crossed lovers? What about you or are you just gonna keep all your ideas to yourself?âÂ
âI was waiting to see if you had any worthwhile ideas.â She shrugged, scribbling something down on a notepad Josh hadnât seen her produce. âThe modern take on a Greek tragedy could be interestingâŠâÂ
âI also was thinking about something similar with a modern take on a classic film like âSinginâ in the Rainâ or something to that extent. I like the idea of a post-college existential crisis coming of age female lead type story but I doubt youâd care for that.âÂ
âNo, no, no,â Josh sat up straight. âDonât put your assumed misogyny on me! Iâd love to do a female lead coming of age post-college existential crisis story! How dare you?âÂ
She smiled at her page and then up at Josh. âMy mistake.âÂ
Their eyes met and the room felt eerily quiet with both of their mouths shut for once. The dingy yellow lights bathed the room in a homey glow. The worn leather was warm beneath their skin, inviting them to settle in.Â
Then simultaneously, they said: âModern take of a Greek tragedy that is a coming of age post-college female lead story!âÂ
âFuck yes!â Y/N rose onto her knees in excitment as Joshâs entire face lit up, leaning forward in excitement.
âLetâs fucking go!âÂ
They laughed and high fived, feeling an unexpected and unknown emotion of shared understanding and initial accomplishment. They talked plot, characters and logline, the main bones of the project they needed to get started on and split up what each of them would flesh out for their next meeting. It was decided that it would be best to meet after class on Wednesdays rather than Thursdays after shows just so that they didnât have to hang around Loverâs Inn when it was just the locals in the front of the house and so that Jake didnât get too lonely when he wanted to drink himself under the bar.Â
Josh felt a weird inclination to walk her to her car that night. He knew which car was hers, he always looked for it in the parking lot when he would pull up on Thursdays â a 90s classic black Volvo sedan with a dreamcatcher hanging on the rearview mirror.Â
She had regarded Josh oddly when he insisted on walking her over to the car even though the parking lot was empty with plenty of light. Then she noticed again that the lot was empty beside her car and the bartenderâs, who was still working.Â
âWhereâs your car?âÂ
Josh kicked at a pebble with his sneaker and shrugged his shoulders with his hands stuffed in his khakis pockets.Â
She frowned remembering his high state earlier today. At least he was somewhat responsible, but with no foresight. âDid you want a ride?âÂ
âNah.â He shook his head vehemently. âI walked in, I can walk out.âÂ
âYeah,â She agreed. âBut itâs dark out now.â
âIt was dark out earlier.â He reasoned with his usual smirk trying to win his way out of this one.Â
âNot this dark, not this cold,â She insisted, pushing his shoulder to move towards the passengerâs side door. âAnd not this late. Get in.âÂ
In the small interior of the Volvo, Josh took his hands out of his pockets and rubbed them together as she cranked the heat and shivered herself before getting her music playing.Â
âThanks,â Josh whispered, grateful.Â
âCanât have you dying on me,â She replied. As she pulled out of the parking lot, she was focused on backing up carefully, twisting around and switching gears, and she barely noticed when she finished her sentence under her breath. âFor so many reasons.âÂ
In the dark of the car, lit only by the moon and streetlamps around, Josh watched her uninterrupted. She sang under the music she had chosen for the drive. A CD that had already been in the reader of Radiohead.Â
Josh listened along to the dulcet melancholy voice of Thom Yorke. He likes how she knew all the words but paused every so often to look to Josh for directions.
âNice house,â she said, turning down the stereo when they arrived.Â
Josh shrugged, turning his head from her to the classic Michigan two-story with its basic driveway and porch. Dark wood everywhere and an old tree in the front yard. There were warm lights coming from a few windows in the house and it looked like a home.
âItâs fine. Jake, Sammy and I rent it from a family friend so itâs a good deal.â
âThatâs nice.â She feels awkward, making small talk with Josh.Â
Itâs the antithesis of their usual relationship of bickering and jabbing and avoiding. Itâs soft and casual. Warm and inviting in the familiar seats of her car, with her music. Josh kind of seemed at peace in her car. It was unusual, regarding him looking so quiet and calm.Â
âAlright.â She breaks the silence.
Josh takes the cue, blinking out of whatever trance was keeping him from taking his leave from her car and getting into his house for the night.Â
âNight,â he speaks softly. âThanks for the rideâŠand, uh, see you Monday, I guess.â
âYeah,â she agrees, watching him get out of the car, carefully taking his bag and his new vest and belt into his arms.
She waits for him to get inside before driving off. Still unsure of the feeling in her stomach, she blasts the Radiohead a little louder to drown out her speculations.Â

By the end of November, they were almost through with the filming portion of their project. Yet it was time for a relatively complicated scene. Well, it shouldnât have been complicated if the weather had been right but unfortunately they were venturing into true winter in Michigan.Â
Josh and Y/N had settled on the tragedy of Hippolytus after attempting the tragedy of Medea but deciding it was too overdone â how many stories of a woman scorned by a man leaving her could we want? Instead, the twist of Hippolytus in the 21st century would allow for an interesting female lead whose story didnât start because of a man.Â
Instead, like Hippolytus, their lead had decided against sex and relationships during college. Josh and Y/N had worried about making it purity porn but decided that they would balance the true story with modernity enough that it would work.Â
In the Greek tragedy, the woman interested in Hippolytus killed herself after being rejected by him, however that was another place they would depart. Instead, the counter to the lead would be hurt randomly and there would be a need for the lead to help them. This leads her to pursue psychology and therapyâmedicine felt too cliche. But she knew she wanted to help people. Their bond eventually grows to love even though itâs not what she intended. However, both the therapy and the relationship help her find meaning to life, bringing her out of the existential crisis that started the story.
So they were filming the scene where the counter, James, was meant to get hurt. The short film was going to be narrated by a modern Aphrodite so some silliness was injected into it. She was interfering with the lead, Hyacinth, in hopes to persuade her to fall into bed with someone.Â
James lived next door and was washing his car, shirtless, when Hyacinth walked out her front door, about to go to gymâanother one of her ideas of how to find purpose in life, pushing her body until it had no energy to think. Jason was meant to have gotten soap all over him from leaning across the hood of the car, like a male fantasy but reversed, and then point the hose towards him and wash it all off sexily. Of course, the student they had cast, weirdly also named James, was attractive but he was an angel and an ex-theater kid, so he couldnât quite get it right and he was beginning to shiver even though they had the water as warm as possible and were covering him up between every take.
Josh was attempting to hold back laughter but after the third bad take, Y/N yelled âcutâ and walked into the scene.
âJames, here hand me the handle,â she said.Â
Taking hold of the metal length at the end of hose that was turned off, she began to instruct James to do exactly what she was showing him. She turned it towards her and held it above her chest with her head tilted back, eyes closed. She sighed for a moment and then briefly moved up as if the water were hitting her face and then ran her free hand against her cheek, allowing her lips to open further and then ran the same hand down the front of her neck, down her chest and her stomach, brushing to the side just as she got to the top of her thighs.
James watched carefully, not phased by the directing. Josh gawked. His eyes almost bugged out of his head watching her and wondering if just maybe thatâs what she looked like in a shower. Her soft hands would be running over her soft naked skin instead of her warm winter sweater and jeans, but still. He could imagine. The sudsy soap and bare skin touching the cool tiles and warm water. Fuck. He needed her to never do that again ever.Â
The last month he had seen more of Y/N than he had ever thought possible. Except now, he looked forward to it without pretending it was because he wanted to bug her. Josh wanted to know what she was thinking about every aspect of their project and he wanted to hear about her weekend and he wanted to kiss her against the walls in the green room when his brothers werenât there. He didnât act on the third thing, but he wanted to.
âJosh?â She raised an eyebrow, still holding the hose above her chest. âJosh?â She repeated.
He blinked. âHuh?â
âI asked if you agreed? Does that fit with an Aphrodite induced sexy car wash scene you imagined?â
He smiled weakly and she tilted her head in silent worry. Hopefully Josh wasnât getting sick.
Of course it is, doesnât even need a Greek god to intervene and make it hotter, she just was.Â
A cloud was rolling in from the east and Josh knew that if they didnât finish soon they might get rained out.
James nodded and they ran the scene again. The actor nailed it and after Josh yelled cut, Y/N squealed in accomplishment. They high fived and Joshâs eyes linked on the side of her neck where her fingers had brushed as she had caressed herself minutes agoâprofessionally.Â
After that, they wrapped for the day, Josh still concerned about the rain, sending the actors and helpers home. Y/N hung around to help Josh bring his equipment back into his house. They were using the front of it for the scene. On their last trip to grab things from the street, thankfully all non-electronic, the beginning of what would be a long rainstorm began in full force.
This time it was Josh to shriek and Y/N laughed as they ran under the awning of the porch after grabbing everything left as quickly and carefully as possible. It didnât matter, they were pretty drenched.
She tried to catch her breath from running and laughing while Josh felt his hair with a look of dismay.Â
âYou know youâre stuck here,â Josh grumbled, looking out at the pouring rain. He hated the way she seemed to enjoy his displeasure at being wet.Â
âAs long as youâve got a spare change of clothes, a hot shower and a gas stove in case the power goes out, Iâm fine.â She shrugs, pushing the screen door open and putting her half of Joshâs stuff on the entryway bench.Â
Josh followed behind with his binder and a few rain-ruined scripts. Â
âAnyone else home?â She wanders through the hall to the living room, peeling off her sweater and leaving her boots by the wall.Â
Josh shakes his head, âProbably not, it pisses Jake off when I film at the house and Sam usually goes to Dannyâs on the weekend.â
She inspects her jeans and t-shirt before looking at Josh. âI want to shower now, can you find me clothes and put them in the bathroom before I get out?â
âWho made you queen?â
âThis isnât Loverâs Inn, Iâm not on the clock and Iâm your guest whoâs trapped hereâŠfeel like youâre supposed to dote on me.âÂ
Josh rolled his eyes, feeling the memory of their feud flickering like an ember in the pit of his stomach. He wants to tease her, say something biting to turn the tables on her. But she was right, they werenât in any of the situations they were usually in with one another. More uncharted territory.Â
âYouâre annoying,â he offered lamely.Â
She chuckled and pushed at his shoulder lightly as he passed, assuredly showing her to the bathroom. âTry harder, lover.â
Josh scoffed without turning his head around, but the feeling in his stomach grew as he heard her feet padding behind him. The rain was loud on the tall roof, fast and foreboding. It mightâve been adding to Joshâs unease.Â
At the end of this new hallway, there were three doors. One to a bedroom, Joshâs, a closet and the bathroom. He opened the closet to grab fresh towels he kept for when he didnât want to do laundry that week and walked them into the bathroom.
It was surprisingly clean but Josh had his own bathroom, forcing Jake and Sam to share the other one, claiming he was the oldest so he got the most privacy.Â
She smiled at the tub. âShould I have a soak instead? Do you have any good wine?â
âThis is not a fucking hotel,â Josh laughed. He handed her the towels and she gave him a pointed look. âBut Iâll open a bottle.â
âGood boy,â She continued to smirk. âMaybe Iâll leave a nice tip.âÂ
Josh pinkened slightly. Sheâd never been like this before. He felt like he was falling into some world where Aphrodite really was fucking with his life.Â
15 minutes later, Josh returned to the bathroom where Y/N was showering and pushed the door open. She had music playing but he could hear the water still running.Â
He walked in and placed the sweatshirt and clean boxers on the counter. Her wet clothes were in a puddle on the floor beside the shower mat and he swallowed. A pretty pink lace thong and a black lacy bra laid atop her top and jeans. He took a breath and went to head for the door, turning away from the clothes. But Y/Nâs own breath caught his attention.Â
Her grunge 90s music was playing from her phone but she was breathing hard and Josh stopped short. His eyes shot to the shower curtain. The place he had been avoiding with all his power. It was sheer. Her silhouette was hard to see but it looked like it was writhing. He saw one of her hands slipping around her chest and he bit his lip. She was certainly squeezing her tits and she was breathing hard and he couldnât see her other hand.
He put his own hand to his mouth to stop any shocked sounds slipping out. She must have forgotten that he was coming back. When he saw her silhouette drop to the floor of the tub, Josh snapped out of his trance.
He grabbed the clothes and slipped out the door, closing it as quietly as possible just as he heard a breathy âfuckâ he would dream about for weeks.Â
âShit,â he whispered to himself. Letting his head fall against the now closed door, he took a deep centering breath before knocking loudly. âIâm leaving your clothes out here, kay? Gonna open that wine.â
Her voice was normal in response and Josh was wondering if he had just hallucinated. Had he accidentally taken a gummy and forgotten. Seemed unlikely since he usually wouldnât when he was working on film stuff.Â
âSounds good! Thanks, Josh!âÂ
Josh tried to be normal when she came into his room in his clothes, rubbing his towel through her wet hair. Heâd left the wine and two mismatched glasses on his bedside table. He mumbled that she could start without him as he passed her to jump in the shower himself.
On the fogged main mirror, she had written, âdonât work when itâs about to rain!âÂ
Josh smiled to himself and stripped down out of his clothes that were still uncomfortably wet. His shower was much quicker and much colder. He couldnât allow himself to be in there for very long or else he wouldâve started to fantasize about what he was certain had just happened in here.Â
In his room, Y/N sat on his bed, taking large sips of the red wine Josh had found. She was nervous. Something about this storm was making her uneasy. The scene they had shot had done something to her. Everytime she looked at Josh, she swore he was eyefucking her and that made her feel strange. Extremely turned on. She had thought dealing with it in the shower wouldâve solved it but the minute she walked out and saw Josh looking so sullen, still in his rain-soaked clothes sans his jacket, waiting for her to get out, she felt wet again. If anything, the quick wank had made it worse. Already slick and wanting, she wasnât sure if she could handle being around just Josh for the night.Â
Now that they were friends, she couldnât deny how attractive he was. God, it made her roll her eyes. He was talented and attractive and she was sitting in his bed, drinking his wine in his comfy clothes all at her request.Â
If it couldnât get any worse, Josh walked into his room with his towel hanging around his hips and his chest speckled with droplets coming down from his hair.Â
âDidnât have time to dry off?â She tilted her head, trying to sound casual. Unbothered when she was fully, terribly, bothered.Â
Josh shook his head, making more droplets fly around the room. âForgot my own clothes.â He shuffled through his myriad of t-shirts and grabbed a gray one with a Buddhist symbol and black sweatpants.Â
âYou sound like you need a drink,â she tried.Â
âYes,â Josh sighed as if he was coming out of a desert with no water. He held his hand out and she quickly poured the second glass and placed it in his waiting hand.
Their fingers brushed and both of them pulled back as if theyâd been burned. She met Joshâs widened, brown eyes looking dark in his navy room that was shadowed by the storm and his one yellow lamp. He clutched carefully to his towel and the clothes under his arm with the wine in his other hand, taking a long sip as he turned on his heel and returned to the bathroom.Â
She let her head hit the headboard of Joshâs bed. What the fuck was going on? She took another sip of her wine and then refilled the glass up high.Â
When Josh returned clothed, he sat on the foot of the bed and she silently refilled his glass when she saw it was already empty.Â
âSoâŠwhat do you want to do?â She tries while folding her legs up under her chin.Â
Joshâs eyes flicker to the movement and get stuck on her legs for a moment before returning to her face.Â
âMovie?â
She shrugs, looking around his room for a television. âI donât want to sit in your living room, your couch looks uncomfortable.â
âThatâs where youâre sleeping if you canât get home tonight,â Josh scoffs.Â
She arches an eyebrow and takes a sip of her wine. âIâll sleep in Jakeâs bed, he wonât mind.â
âNo.â Josh stated flatly.
Her eyes turn back to him, cautiously. âWhy not?âÂ
âItâs weird.â
âNo itâs not.â She sounds annoyed, placing her wine down and picking up her phone. âIâll just text him and ask.âÂ
The text sends and she smirks at Josh pointedly. Shortly after, a loud crash of thunder signals the power leaving for the rest of the storm and with it, the phone signals.Â
Josh smirks triumphantly over his glass when Y/N throws her phone dejectedly on the side table too, while he flicks on his battery powered lamp he had grabbed earlier as a precaution.Â
âCouch it is.â
She lays sideways along the top of Joshâs bed and hums, raising her hands above her head, allowing the bottom of the sweater to lift and expose her stomach. Feeling perfectly buzzed from the wine, she sighs, âI donât know, this feels pretty comfy and Iâm already settled. Maybe you should sleep on the couch since you love it so much.âÂ
Josh watched her body extending across his bed and simultaneously wanted her there forever and to throw her out.Â
âAbsolutely not. This is my house.â
âAnd Iâm the guest,â she repeats. âCâmon lover, donât be mean.âÂ
âYouâve never seen mean,â Josh rolls his eyes and finishes his wine, laying it with hers on the table.
She laughs, outrageously loud. âYouâre a lot of things, Josh. But I donât think youâve got a truly mean bone in your body or however that cliche goes. Evil sure, but thatâs different.âÂ
She hasnât bothered to sit up and sheâs enjoying the tone of voice Josh is slipping into and everything feels quite nice and warm. So warm. She shuts her eyes.Â
âNo, no,â Josh hurries, moving himself so that he is closer to her. He pats her cheek lightly. âNo falling asleep in my bed. Not allowed.â
âBut Iâm so comfy and cozy,â She croons, blinking her eyes back open. The smirk on her face gives her away.Â
âCâmon.â Josh takes her shoulders to push her upright. âSit up.â
She laughs, but it dies out, recognizing the proximity of Joshâs face to hers. How his body is hovering over hers. How warm she is. âFuck,â she whispers, staring at his lips, slightly stained from the wine.
âWhat?â Josh whispers back, realizing the same things as her. How soft the smallest bit of her skin is against his finger thatâs on her shoulder, slipping along the collar of the sweater.Â
âYour lips are red,â she states.Â
Josh grins and lets his head fall between them with a laugh. âSo are yours.â
He looks back at her and remembers the way she sounded in the bathroom. All the years heâd known her. All their fights. And how they werenât really fighting anymore. How he teased her at Loverâs Inn and how good sheâd been as his partner this last month and a half.Â
âWhat are we going to do with no power, August,â Josh whispered, already inching his face closer to hers.Â
She smiled and let her hands reach up to cup his face and neck. âRead the Bible by candlelight?â She whispered back as Joshâs nose nudged against hers.
He breathed a laugh across her lips and her breath caught in her throat when he finally attached his lips to hers. They kissed softly, just taking it in. Josh shifted them into a more comfortable position, one leg slotting between hers, while the other supported him so his torso wasnât fully on her.Â
She whimpered immediately at the pressure and Josh smirked. He pressed harder, licking into her mouth.Â
She gasped when Josh began to kiss her neck and he spoke against her neck in between sucking against the skin. âI heard you.âÂ
âW-what?â She was staring at the ceiling while she ran one hand against his shoulder and the other through his hair.Â
âI. Heard. You.â Josh repeated, allowing one of his hands to run under the sweater up towards her breast and she whimpered again. âFuck,â he loved the way she sounded. âIn the shower, lover.âÂ
Her eyes shot wider, the haze of Joshâs lavishing touch disappeared with shame. âYou did?â
Josh pulled back with a lazy grin, still playing with one of her nipples under her shirt and pecks her lips quickly.Â
âYeah you fuckinâ told me to bring your clothes in because youâre a princess apparently and then you were in there getting off when I walked in.âÂ
She felt embarrassed but remembered what was likely about to happen so it didnât really matter. âOhâŠI tried to deal with it quietly. I was just really turned on for some reason.âÂ
Josh scoffed and retreated his hand from under her sweater. âCâmon,â he gestured to the sweater.Â
They were still acting like film partners through this interaction. Or at least how they acted. Talking casually while in the beginning of a sexual encounter.Â
She took it off and threw it to the ground while staring pointedly at Joshâs shirt. He followed suit before kissing her again. His chest looked so soft and warm, she wanted to be wrapped up in him.
âFirst, I almost had a heart attack at the sight of your thong and then I turned to leave and youâre in there playing with this thing.â He pauses his words, slipping his hand inside the boxers she was wearing, cupping her pussy.Â
She whines, extending her neck to kiss Joshâs. Feeling the need to touch more of him. He grins down at her again and kisses the space between her tits.Â
His hand rubbed ever so slightly over her mound without actually doing anything, but she felt the slightest friction and the pooling of her wetness. She grabbed at one of her tits.Â
âThe curtainâs not opaque, August,â he continues and she groans at the nickname at a time like this. His middle finger slipped lower, hovering over her slit. He looked her in the eyes again. âI saw you writhing around your own little fingers. Whatâs it gonna look like when itâs mine your pretty pussy is wrapped around?â
She moaned at his words, throwing her head back against the pillows.Â
âIs it pretty? I bet itâs pretty.â Josh continued his special version of torture. She could feel his fingers but they werenât doing anything she wanted them to. Every so often he planted a kiss on her torso. Of course he liked to tease by talking forever and ever.Â
âTake off the boxers and find out,â She tries not to sound impatient.Â
âGreat idea!â Josh patronizes, slipping his hand out of the boxers completely and moving to take off the boxers.
She huffs.Â
âDonât act spoiled,â Josh admonishes, returning his hand back to where it was while his other cups her face, forcing her to look him in the eyes again. He looks like an angel like this but so sure of himself. Sheâs amazed and completely at his will. âI know she already got to cum once under this roof.â He tsked, tapping his middle finger against her entrance. It was the lightest pat but she was so wet that Joshâs finger got a little of her slick nonetheless.
She moaned at the change in sensation, her hips dipping down in some instinctual attempt at getting him to slip inside.Â
âGod, you are needy.â He removed his hands again and laughed when she huffed again. Both hands moved to her knees and pushed them to be bent and then apart, moving his body between them. His hands then went to her breasts, squeezing them and pinching tenderly at her nipples. Her hips bucked again and Josh kissed her again. âItâs gonna feel so good when I finally touch you where you want,â He offered, kissing her sweetly.Â
Pulling away he began to suck on her chest, continuing his monologue. âYou were holding this perfect tit in one hand and rubbing your wet pussy with the other, right?â
She nodded when he looked to her for a response.Â
âI left when I saw you drop to your knees like some cock hungry whoreâŠâ Coming from someone else it wouldâve sounded cruel, but from Joshâs lips it was the softest sweetest accusation in the world. His voice was honey and it only made her want him more. Maybe she was a cock hungry whore, for Josh.Â
Joshâs right hand returns to her pussy, cupping it like before and sheâs sure sheâs about to leak onto his palm.Â
âYouâre leaking, princess,â Josh informs her, confirming her suspicion. âDo you like me talking mean to you? Whyâd you drop to your knees in my bathroom, August? Câmon you can tell me.â
âI,â She starts. Josh chooses then to slip the tip of his finger inside of her.Â
âYes?â
âI was about to c-cum and you have that, fucking, detachable showerheadâŠâ
Josh thrust his finger fully inside her and she moaned, relieved but not much better. Now she felt herself quickly working up to another orgasm. He thrust his finger carefully, thinking over his response while trying to hold himself together now that heâd felt how warm and tight she was inside.Â
âUsed my showerhead to get off in my shower. Touching these pretty tits, riding your own hand and now youâre laid out all perfect for me.â He added a finger and her hips began to move with his movements. âYou are a little slut, arenât you?â
She hums in agreement, one hand hanging onto Joshâs neck and another gripping her tit like her life depended on it.Â
âAnd youâre gonna cum again already? Fuck,â Josh sounded amazed. In awe of how sexy Y/N was, how willing and lovely she was, how she was perfect for him. âGo on.â
She came immediately, having held off for so long, trying to hold it for Josh despite how much heâd teased her.Â
After she rode it out, Josh removed his fingers and gave them a lick. Humming his satisfaction. She breathed heavily watching him, but wanting more. Seeing from the bulge in Joshâs sweatpants she knew he wanted more as well.Â
âFuck me, Josh.â She sat up on her elbows beckoning him closer.Â
âDid you forget whoâs in charge?â He laughed, but it was soft. They were still themselves.Â
She widened her legs and pouted, dropping her hand to her pussy, carefully circling her puffy clit.Â
âNeed it, Josh.â She rocked her hips. âI think you need it too.â She hummed, looking pointedly at his straining cock.
Josh shook his head and crawled over her again, pushing her hand away from her clit. She took up the job of pushing down his sweatpants and boxers simultaneously.Â
âNext time, I wanna see you dropping to your knees like the cockslut we now know you are.â Josh breaths, losing track of his train of thought with the feel of her soft hand gripping the base of him gently.Â
âNext time could be later tonightâŠâ She whispered back, connecting their lips again. âOr tomorrow.â
Josh groans, at her words and the feeling of her slipping the head of his cock through her slick. He resisted pressing in immediately, feeling her rubbing it back and forth from her entrance to her needy clit. He bit her lip and she moaned.Â
âI wouldâve fucked you months ago if I knew that getting you wet was all it took to make you all sweet and nice.â He grunted.Â
His hips thrusting on their own accord caused his head to slip against her clit in a way that made her moan loudly. She tightened her grip on his cock and Joshâs hips moved back.
âI wouldnât be rude to the girl whoâs about to let you hit, lover.âÂ
She nudged Joshâs head into her entrance and they sighed in tandem. Her hands went up to his shoulders from under his arms. Josh dropped his face into her neck, overwhelmed by the warmth and softness. They began moving at a steady clip. Her legs wrapped around Josh until he started thrusting harder and faster.Â
âFuck,â she whined. âThat feels so fucking good. Donât stop.â
Josh had begun to sweat. He shifted one of her legs to balance one of his hands and then moved his other to the headboard and she moaned loudly adoring the stretch.
ââM close,â He strained. His eyes were constantly shifting between her bouncing tits, his cock disappearing in her and her face and the expressions she was making. âYouâre so wet.â
âCum,â she breathed. Her fingers slipped down to her clit again, rubbing furiously.Â
Her walls tightened at the added stimulation and Josh was cumming. Hot and sticky inside her. He panted hard, collapsing on her with a wet kiss against her mouth. His cock had made even more of a mess of her, leaking out of her full, throbbing cunt.Â
Josh watched it. Entranced as he pulled out once more and twitched when Y/N moaned at the sensation, her eyes shut in pleasure.Â
âIâll clean you up,â Josh nodded to himself before disappearing.Â
Less than 10 minutes later, the pair were cleaned up and wrapped up with water in Joshâs bed. Side by side.Â
-
They saw each other in class on Monday and Wednesday after their shoot and impromptu sleepover on Saturday that had run into Sunday, but they acted like nothing had happened. Or like it was completely normal. Which they both liked. They had been cordial upon waking up wrapped around each other on Sunday morning, but Y/N had made a quick exit, citing a myriad of reasons why she needed to go home now that the storm had passed. She even declined coffee.Â
It was Thursday, at Loverâs Inn, when the events of Saturday night became hard to ignore.Â
Josh didnât show up first which she was grateful for. Jake sauntered in with his guitar case, his small but impressive pedal board and a few wrapped up cords over his shoulder. She smiled and they exchanged pleasantries as she shuffled around their table. Everything was ready, but she couldnât stop herself from reorganizing things.Â
âDo you need a beer?â Jake asks after a tense 10 minutes of silence.Â
She laughs and flips around from the table, slumping against it. âHonestly, yeah.âÂ
Jake lifts his mouth into a half-smile, nodding to the table. âYou can have one of mine and Iâll steal one of my brothers.âÂ
âHow chivalrous,â She smiles, disarmed by Jakeâs nature. She grabs two beers and the bottle opener from the table before crossing to him and handing over one beer to him, followed by the opener.Â
They click the necks together and take an appreciative sip.Â
âWhatâs got you flustered?â Jake asks.Â
âI donât know,â She sighs, rubbing at her forehead, knowing exactly why.Â
Sam, Danny and Josh file through the side door while Y/N attempts to come up with a reason for her to be stressed. Jake watches her carefully, but her eyes immediately shoot to the sound of the door opening and their voices.Â
Josh scans the scene of Jake and Y/N on the two couches, sipping on beers, alone. His nose flares momentarily before setting down his piece of the drum kit and saunters to the couch, sitting beside Jake.Â
âYour turn,â Josh says, nodding to the door so that Jake will go help with the rest of their stuff.Â
Jake rolls his eyes and takes another swig of his beer before huffily standing up and walking outside. Josh eyes Y/N sitting silently across from him and takes a swif from his brotherâs beer.Â
âIâm assuming he offered his share and then is planning to drink an extra of one of ours.âÂ
She chuckles nervously, eyes shifting away from Josh and around the room. âYou guys know each other well.âÂ
âBrothers. Twins.â He shrugs, still watching her intently.Â
She discards her half-empty beer and stands, bee-lining for her bag. âIâve got new stuff for you guys.âÂ
Josh rolls his eyes, but feels a little bug of worry squirming in. The insecurity he had felt on Sunday had vanished with how normal they had been in class, but this made him feel like something was certainly off.Â
âHere,â She places the vest and medallion necklace sheâd found for Josh beside his head on the back of the couch. âAnd hereâs this for you, Danny.â She turned from Josh before he could even thank her, handing Danny a tank style shirt she thought heâd like. Sam received a flowy floral button down while Jake got a fringe leather jacket that she had been searching for all semester for him.Â
Jake beamed, his eyes shiny and his smile taking over his entire face. She smiled back at him, trying to fully feel the gratitude he was giving her. She watched as he tried it on and spread his arms in the mirror, admiring the movement.Â
âThis is going to be so fuckinâ sick,â He laughed, slightly in disbelief, touching over the jacket constantly. âI canât thank you enough, Y/N.âÂ
She blushed a bit, feeling everyoneâs eyes on her, especially Joshâs from his place on the couch. He was holding his vest in his lap, sullen that he had never thanked her so profusely for the things she found him.Â
âItâs my dream jobâand if you guys ever get famous, Iâll make you real stage outfits. However you want.â Jakeâs giddy energy was overpowering her nerves. It felt great.Â
The green room was a fun atmosphere for the rest of the hour leading up to their set. Josh pushed himself out of his pining and focused on the revelry. But before the band was about to go on, Josh hung back, leaving him alone with Y/N.Â
She saw him stall at the door, his hand catching the frame. His vest was tan suede tonight, with silver pieces swirling into pockets on the front and creating a pattern across his back. He turned around and she paused, once more at the table, beginning to clean up wrappers.Â
âI wanted to say thank you for all the vests and stuff youâve found me this semester, August.âÂ
She watched Josh cross the room to her. âItâs nothing. Like I said, dream job.âÂ
Josh pressed closer and threaded his hand through her hair. His breath was warm against her skin. She finally met his eyes.Â
âI miss you.âÂ
âYouâve seen me all week.âÂ
Joshâs forehead drops against hers, his free hand coming to her waist. Itâs hot and firm and she feels the breath leave her lungs. Her body presses closer to him.Â
âNot what I meant.âÂ
âJoshâŠâ She wants to kiss him so bad. Wants him to kiss her. Her hands are grasping at his forearms in a way she hopes isnât too desparate. âYouâve got a show to play.âÂ
His hand moves slowly from her waist across her stomach to the center of her jean skirt. His fingers fiddle with the button, slipping them below the waistband, feeling more fabric.Â
âItâs a shame.â His breathing was heavy. His nose kept nudging hers.Â
She licked her lips and swallowed.Â
âReally wish you werenât wearing tights,â He murmurs before pressing a hot kiss to her lips.Â
Before she can really feel him against her, heâs pulling away and snapping the black lycra that he had wiggled his finger into against her skin. A sharp gasp sounds and heâs walking out the door to the stage, looking far too much like a rockstar than sheâd like. After a few moments of attempting to collect herself, she leaves the trash to be dealt with later and follows Josh to see the start of the show.Â
This show was electric. Everyone was playing their best. Jake was rocking with his guitar so much that the fringe flew around, making the crowd of college-aged women the band had amassed go wild. Josh was strutting around the stage, raising his arms as he hit notes and dancing with Jake every so often.Â
Jake tried to convince the manager to let Sam and Danny into the front of house. âItâs not like they donât have IDs that say theyâre old enough,â he reasoned conspiratorially. He was over the moon and he wanted everyone to celebrate since winter break was coming up and their show would be taking a rest for a while. Her manager relented, but Josh almost crushed his twinâs soul when he said he needed to go home to work on editing.Â
Sam and Dannyâs exuberance at being able to drink at the bar overpowered Jakeâs protestations to Josh, leaving Y/N and Josh alone in the green room once more. He smirked with great satisfaction as he shrugged the vest from his shoulders and began to pull his t-shirt back over his head.Â
âWhere were we?â He saunters back over and sheâs happy to see regular Josh instead of the rockstar Josh who had ambushed her earlier.Â
Yet, she remembered him. And she remembered his performance tonight. How low his pants were slung around his hips. A pair of tight black vinyl pants she had found him about a month ago. His happy trail had meandered down to disappear beneath the fabric she had chosen for him. Now, he was straining against those pants and she shut her eyes, coming to terms with what she was about to do.Â
âItâs your turn, Josh.â She meets him in the middle of the room, backing him up against the arm of the bigger leather couch. She caged him in for a moment, looking him up and down. Joshâs eyes were wide in surprise. âSit on the couch.âÂ
He is a bit confused, but doesnât argue, shuffling to sit down as quickly as possible.Â
âEager, huh?âÂ
âNow whoâs being mean?âÂ
She grins and walks to stand in front of Josh, dropping to her knees with quiet ease and practice. Josh immediately throws his head back, sinking lower into the chair.Â
âOh my god.âÂ
âDidnât want to leave you hanging,â She smiled. Running her hands over the tops of Joshâs vinyl clad thighs. âI could see it while you were on stage. At least,â She paused to chuckle. âMore than usual.â
Josh sighed, eyes fluttering open to stare at her between his legs again. She was so beautiful even when she smiled at him so wickedly.Â
âWant your cock in my mouth, Josh?âÂ
âFuck, Y/N,â Josh couldnât take the teasing of her hands and her words.Â
âJust say âpleaseâ.â She stared at Josh seriously. Her hands toying with the button and zipper of his pants now, brushing just over his hardening length.Â
âPlease, please, fucking please.â He rushed out.Â
She laughed and shook her head. âGod, fine. Relax.âÂ
Her hands expertly unhooked the button and slid the zipper down with practiced hands of a costumer. This was far more explicit than any of the other times she had undressed someone. Joshâs cock was hot and heavy in her hand and her core ached at the memory of where it had been almost a week ago. She ran her tongue against it and Josh groaned.Â
She lavished his head with a few kisses and looked up at Josh, beginning to suck on the side of it. âSo pretty,â She murmurs.Â
Joshâs hips bucked in response, his hand going to rest in her hair, but careful not to guide her. He wanted to see what she did. She gathered a pool of spit to let fall onto his thick cock before languidly running her hand over the length, hoping to tease him a little more. She hadnât forgotten the treatment he gave her on Saturday. Joshâs hips bucked again and he groaned her name.Â
Taking his head fully in between her lips, she took pity on him. Beginning her descent, she attempted to get him all in her throat but had about a handful left when he hit the back of her throat. She hummed around him and he jerked in her throat, causing her to fall back. She massaged her lips around the place where his head met the shaft before trying again. One hand on his thigh and one beneath his shirt, she bobbed her head slowly, suctioning occasionally until Josh was hissing about being close again.Â
She pulled off him and smiled at him from her position. Her lips were wet with saliva and precum. Joshâs eyes were half closed in pleasure but he couldnât believe the look on her face. Breathing heavy, flushed from taking him down her throat. Her hand moved along his length faster.Â
âTell me when,â She murmured, eyes moving from Joshâs face to her movements around him.Â
Josh nodded, trying to stay still. Overwhelmed. âNow.âÂ
Her lips reattached to his head, sucking a little harder, while her hand still worked near the base. Joshâs hips bucked in time with the spurts that hit the back of her throat and she clenched around nothing, wishing more than anything that she was brave enough to attempt penetrative sex in public.Â
She pulled off and swallowed, wiping the back of her hand across her mouth with a tired sigh. Joshâs satisfied smile watched her in awe, tucking himself away after a few moments of heavy panting.Â
âJesus Christ,â Josh breathed, petting at her hair before bringing her to kiss his lips. âThank you. Wow. Just⊠so talented.â
âJosh Kiszka not having the right words,â She smiled against his lips. She pulled away and ruffled his hair. âI must be good.âÂ
Josh sputtered, jumping to his feet and following her to the side of the door where she was grabbing her coat and extra stuff.Â
âDo you need a ride home again?âÂ
Josh scratched at the back of his neck. âUh, I guess. Canât really go out there and tell âem I need their keys when I was supposed to have left 20 minutes ago. Plus theyâre probably expecting me to come pick them up eventually so I need my car for that.âÂ
âJosh,â She stopped his rambling. Her hand pressed flat against his upper chest, bringing his eyes to hers. âRelax. My jawâs too tired to give you another stress relieving head session.âÂ
Josh shut up and nodded. She smiled, pleased with herself. They grabbed their stuff and headed for her Volvo after she locked the green room door.Â
âDriving you home like youâre my little bitch,â She stated half-way through the drive she now knew without directions.Â
âShut up.â Josh sounded annoyed but really he was smiling, staring out at the passing streets.Â
When they pull up to his house, Josh pauses. âDo you wanna come in?âÂ
âCanât tonight. See you soon though.âÂ
She kisses his lips tenderly, cupping his strong jaw in a way neither of them had ever expected.Â

Mid December and the semester was over. Their short film was a success. It was the last Thursday Greta Van Fleet would be performing at Loverâs Inn until the new year. Josh and Y/N hadnât had time to talk about them with the rush of finals and getting the film in in time for screening. There had been stolen kisses during late final cut editing nights and in the empty hallways of the film building, but nothing else.Â
Josh had arrived with Y/N, helping her set up so that she could be done early and they could have alone time before the rest of the band started to arrive. They were so excited to be done with everything, so pleased with themselves, that they were hurriedly making out against the snack table, unable to keep their hands off of one another a moment longer.Â
So wrapped up in one another, exchanging words of teasing and searing lips against soft skin, they donât hear Danny and Jake walking in.
With Y/N pressed against the table, Jake and Danny get an eyeful of her hands on Josh, one on his waist pulling him closer and the other grabbing at his right jean-clad ass cheek.
Danny whistling loudly and Jake clapping his hands together leisurely cause them to spring apart. Josh spins around, flushed and out of breath while Y/N adjusts the top of her shirt that Josh had pushed to the side for more access to her skin.Â
âAbout time,â Jake says with a happy smile, stalking to place down his guitar case.Â
Danny laughs and Sam walks in shortly behind them, silent for a moment, appraising the situation before understanding and exclaiming: âTo the happy couple!â
Josh groans at his brothersâ smug looks before smiling. She laughs, hiding her head behind Joshâs shoulder in mild embarrassment. Everyone cheers and it feels silly that they ever detested being in the same room as one another.Â
During their final performance, Josh waxes eloquent about his wondrous time heâs spent on this very stage. He thanks everyone and then pauses, searching the audience for Y/N.Â
âNow this next one goes out to my lover,â He says as he winks. âYou know who you are!âÂ
The crowd goes wild and a softer than usual guitar riff comes in from Jakeâs playing.Â
âAugust, honey / Tasted sweeter with you / Sticky fingers / From your own residue,â He sang.
Jake got to kick up the guitar. The three guys even sang the little backing âoohâs into their mics that were rarely used.Â
âWe donât talk about it / We donât have the time / We thought love was something / We werenât meant to find.â
Joshâs voice is a perfect fit for the cover, she thinks it sounds even better than the original.Â
âBut donât you remember / August, honey, you were mine!â
It hurts her heart to realize why her name was âAugustâ in Joshâs phone and not for the asshole-ish reason he had originally told her. Sure, theyâd met in August three years ago, that was still true, but sheâd also mentioned this song to him. When theyâd first been paired up freshman year, he had asked her what the song was that was paused on her phone when he handed it back after typing in his number. Always being scatterbrained, especially at 18, he must have written it over her nameâŠAnd it was âAugustâ.Â
Love how tumblr has its own folk stories. Yeah the God of Arepo weâve all heard the story and we all still cry about it. Yeah that one about the woman locked up for centuries finally getting free. That one about the witch who would marry anyone who could get her house key from her cat and itâs revealed she IS the cat after the narrator befriends the cat.
first off, i want to thank all of you who have left such sweet messages in my inbox asking where ive been and just checking in on me. i see them and you have no idea how much i appreciate them.
next, i just want to say that im sorry that ive been so MIA recently. college life is crazy and busy and unfortunately has left very little time for me to write. when i DO have free time, ive been far too burnt out to be able to write anything worthwhile. writers block is no joke, kids.
i also just have been having a little bit of a regression in terms of my mental health recently and ive been trying to take some time to just worry about myself. but please know that i am doing my best to get back into the mindset where i can share my work with you all.
while i could force myself to work through this little rut ive been in just to try and post something soon, in the past whenever i would try to write when im not not super inspired ive felt that my writing just isn't up to the standard that i want it to be. i want to give you all my best work and i just haven't been able to do that as of late.
im really hoping that i can try and find some free time here in the coming weeks once i manage to get through finals. in the meantime, please know that i love each and every one of you and that im thankful for you guys' patience with me.
and if you took the time to read this whole thing i really really appreciate you.
once again, im sorry i haven't been active recently and i promise im trying to get back to where i was.
reblogging this because it's one of my most favorites
Sun Kissed Lillies
Pairing: Josh Kiszka x f!reader
Word Count: 6.9K+
Summary: Struggling to get by between multiple jobs and working as a cam girl on the side, you find an unlikely friend in the bassist of your favorite band and things take a turn when he and his brothers come to visit.
Warnings: SMUT MINORS DNI, Samuel (he needs a warning), endearing Josh
Authors Note: Yet another reupload! While this work can stand alone, there may be some future plans for Josh and his Lily girl..
Moving to the outskirts of Nashville wasnât an easy decision for you, but you ended up going where your roommate at the time took you. What you shouldâve excepted knowing her was her affinity for finding a man and up and moving out of the place you were both renting leaving you to struggle on your own, until this fling ended and she came crawling back once more of course.Â
In the short time of you living there, you had somehow found yourself a receptionist job of sorts at a yoga studio and a more fitting job working at a smaller record store. They werenât awful jobs but it still wasnât enough to pull the weight of two comfortably so you began to explore other options online. So, when you needed the extra money, you found yourself displayed on your bed in front of your old camera from college doing your best to seduce those on the other end. You were careful to never show your face which was warned against as not going to get you any clientele but you had enough people that tuned in that you would rather stick with your comfortability over fully delving into the world of online films.Â
You didnât mind it and it was good money but you much preferred your day jobs, which is where you found yourself in your newest predicament. Over the past few months youâve encountered each member of Greta Van Fleet a few times, each time in passing at work. Jake was quiet and kind but you always found him making jokes with whoever he was with as he went through the well loved records you frequently rotated out. He never left the store empty handed. Josh only ever came with his twin. Samuel and Daniel however you saw plenty. Sammy and his girlfriend came once a week to check new releases, and if Daniel wasnât tagging along with either him or sometimes Jake, he made sure to stop in himself. Given the nature of your job at the record store you often found yourself in comfortable concert tees so it wasnât long until you slipped up and was wearing a Greta tee when one of the four came to visit. And thatâs where you stood after today.Â
Turning to greet the newest customer hearing the door chime and being face to face with Samuel and his girlfriend in for their weekly browse. You froze and look down at the same time Sam looked to you shirt and looked back up to give him an awkward smile. He walked right up to the front where you stood with a laugh.Â
âY/n!! Nice shirt! But seriously dude? Weâve been coming here for what like 2 months and you never said anything to a single one of us?â he questions you as his girl shook her head and went to look at the newest records.Â
âWell Samuelâ you drawled âI would rather not scare you away as you are such a loyal customer, plus I know how to contain myself, even around some of my favorite artists.â You continued organizing the stickers by the register that you were focusing on prior to his entrance and he laughed again.Â
âYouâre telling me you saw my gorgeous locks and charming smile here every week and it hasnât whittled you away into asking for one picture?â he faked a sad gasp and you couldnât help but giggle.Â
âWhy Sam? Do you want a picture?â you asked trying not to blush at him teasing you.Â
What you didnât expect was him already holding his phone ready in selfie mode, you looked at him deadpan for a moment before leaning over to him waiting with his phone impatiently and stuck your tongue out next to him. He snapped the picture and intently got to typing away. âYou better notâ his hand was already in your face shushing you. You sighed.Â
His girl was soon behind him holding an album you knew she had been waiting for and placing it on the counter. You happily rang her out ready for this interaction to end.Â
âNo discount for the superstar?â came the now agitating voice standing beside her and you just laughed. âThatâs okayâ he continued âalready told my brothers about the cute super fan I ran into todayâ and with that he left with a wink and you stood there jaw open face no longer anything but beet red.Â
After that mortifying experience you told yourself you were never going to survive another day at this record store nor would you wear their merch here ever again. With only an hour left here you continued imagining yourself hitting your face against the wall as you closed up shop and got ready for your shift at the yoga studio.Â
It was rare you worked the studio during the week let alone at nights. On your drive there you decided you should be fine without changing as your coworker whose shift you were covering said thereâd be nothing more than a few regulars that were âreally chill and always down to earthâ so you kept up your comfy band tee look rather than switching to your hippie yoga persona that you usually channeled at this place. So here is where you continued to dig yourself your own grave. Coming into the front desk and sitting down with a book and a salad you brought from home you thought nothing of it as you heard the doors open alerting you to those coming in for tonightâs class. You looked at the schedule and saw it was one of the studios more advanced classes so you most certainly did not expect to see your weekend morning regulars but what you also didnât expect was to see Samuel Kiszka walking through the door with none other than his eldest brother in tow. Instead of being able to mutter a hello an involuntary groan left your mouth which you quickly covered with your hand embarrassed.Â
Both of them looked your way as you shyed away trying to sink back into your chair and under the desk. God damn why didnât you change? You were cursing yourself.Â
Sam came bounding up to the front desk âlook! our cute super fan! you following me or something y/n?â he joked signing himself and Josh into the book that sat in front of you. Taking a bite of your salad and putting your book down you raised an eyebrow.Â
âIt seems as if you are following me from job to job not the other way aroundâ you jokingly accused. âAnd no, you canât get a discount here either.â And to that Josh began laughing behind Sam, alerting you to his presence that you forgot about for a second. It was him that spoke next that surprised you.
âWeâre here often, especially myself, how come Iâve never seen you around then?â he mused genuinely and you smiled.Â
âIm covering for someone else tonight, my normal schedule has me on for weekend mornings which is almost always beginner classes. Unless you come in for some of the Sunday sun salutations but I donât come into work that early if I donât have to and they have yet to require a desk person for then so fingers crossed they keep it that way!â you answered honestly before picking your book back up.Â
Josh and Sam shared a look and then nodded before Sam asked âWhat if we requested a desk person to see after our Sunday visits?â which resulted in an unamused look from you.Â
âYou will be saying hello to the sun and goodbye to being allowed your weekly vinyl tripsâ you quirked and eyebrow in his direction and he laughed ânow have a good class guys, Iâm starting to think that you are my super fan Samâ and with that you shooed them both away. You were clocking out and heading home before they ended their class and you were slightly bummed you wouldnât get to say goodbye but you know in your heart that you werenât going to see the end of them anytime soon. And oh were you right.Â
Your next shift at the record store in came Sammy and Danny and all you could do was brace for impact. A few shifts later came Daniel, this time with Jake. And then Jake with Josh. You all grew a comfortable banter with one another and never pressed further from there. Until one day about a month later you were called in on a weeknight once again at the yoga studio.Â
There you sat with your book and in came Samuel and Josh. You smiled as they approached and Sam was immediately talking your ear off âY/n I see you all the time -â âoh I didnât noticeâ you cut him off and he glared at you but continued âand I feel like I know nothing about you, except that youâre in love with me and my good looksâ to which you looked at Josh and rolled your eyes as Sam kept going âand I think we need to change that.â You put your book down and gave him a questioning look and he slid you his phone with a contact open already labeled Y/N SUPERFAN waiting for you to put your number in. You laughed and took the phone and obliged. He grabbed it back and sent you a text and waited for your phone to light up on the desk.Â
Unknown Number: Y/N !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
âWhat just making sure you didnât lie to me!â he said as you saved his number to his phone in front of him and shot him a text back.Â
Y/N: Sorry Sammy, Iâm a Jake girl!Â
He read the text and pouted turning to Josh and showing him the text âman I could never win around you two huh?â and Josh just laughed and dragged him away to their class. As he was walking away with Sam however he paused and looked back at you noticing the tattoo you had on your forearm, a singular lily. âIâve never noticed that before, I really like it y/n!â he stood their awkwardly as you thanked him and he kept staring at it, leaving Sam to be the one to drag him to class instead. Your phone pinged not even five minutes later.
Samuel Superstar: Are you reallllly a Jake girl? Or do you just like to see my suffering?Â
Y/N: Thats my secret to keepÂ
Samuel S: Friends donât keep secrets y/n!Â
Y/N: Well Iâm just a superfan right?Â
It took him awhile to respond to that one. You thought nothing of it and assumed their class had begun. It wasnât until you were home that you got a response.Â
Samuel S: Maybe I am your superfan then because I would like to think weâve become friends in this short time..Â
I get it if Iâm overstepping boundaries, but I for one would love to get to know you more!
You looked down at your phone smiling as you got out of your shower for the night.Â
Y/N: Well Samuel
What do you want to know?
And from there is how you found yourself telling Sam the story of your roommate and how youâve been stretching yourself thin and how your house itself still wasnât settled into it and suddenly you were having a half a year late housewarming party being thrust upon you by Samuel himself.Â
You were nervous to say the least. The one place in your house that was fully moved into was your room, it was your safe place and your studio so it made sense. The rest of the house however, boxes still stood untouched. Not wanting them to be clued in on your third job you looked to the camera in your room and went to move it but paused for a moment. One session before moving it couldnât hurt right? Youâve been doing weekly sessions every Thursday night and gotten enough regulars that you couldnât abandon that but other nights of the week were surprise appearances for extra money. The weekends were usually best for that but you decided a weekday couldnât hurt. Rent was due soon and you still at a hefty amount to make. You began to turn your filming set up on and opened your laptop and logged in, alerting potential viewers that you were to go live soon.Â
It didnât take long for a certain viewers name to pop up on you page. Someone who you had grown to favor. He went by Helios and was was always in attendance for your streams. Often times you would open a private session for him afterwards, one where you were able to fully enjoy yourself under his watch and not just do what was bringing in the most money. Sometimes you would talk about other things as well, he didnât always demand sex. He caught your eye in the first place by asking about your tapestry on the wall and if you enjoyed the band. In which you turned to see the bottom half of your My Way Soon tapestry being in frame. That night you talked about your love for their music and he listened intently. You were stunned to see he still paid you for that session and triple the cost on top of that. After that night you would clear any other requests received if he were to send one in. You chuckled to yourself as you grabbed a toy and laid down for the camera thinking about Helios and how the band that made him your favorite was now coming to this space in a few hours.Â
You saw that your stream had about 15 viewers waiting and decided to go live. You turned on music and allowed yourself to settle back into your bed as you slowly touched yourself for the camera. After watching your live chat and responding to a few requests you decided you made enough money to end the session for the night so you could go back to preparing for this gathering at your home.Â
As you moved back to the laptop and had the stream ended you saw Helios pop-up in your inbox.Â
Helios: Itâs not our normal night but something told me I had to log on. Would you mind my lily girl?Â
You gazed down at the tattoo that earned you that nickname from him, and rubbed your hand over it thinking about how Josh complimented it earlier. For some reason you wished you could tell Helios but you stopped yourself. This was business. You didnât really know who was on the other side of the screen. You didnât respond to his message, rather you had already opened up the private room and sent him the invite. He joined in an instant.Â
You laid back on your bed, however this time you crossed your legs and reached for your book. Something about this mysterious man had you feeling comfortable enough to do so. He was one of two customers that you relaxed like this with. The other being a sweet girl who was just looking for someone to help her figure out who she is which you gladly obliged. You spoke to nothingness as you opened your book.Â
âIt always nice to see your name on my screen. Is there anything I can do for you today?âÂ
Helios: I just wanted to speak if you donât mind.Â
âI never mind. Do you mind if I take a moment to put my pajamas on then?âÂ
Helios: Only if theyâre cute.
You read his reply and laughed, moving yourself out of frame and pulling out a pair of flannel pj shorts that you adored. You opted to grab from your clean laundry pile and slip that damned GVF shirt over your head and smiled to yourself before crawling back in bed. Before you even said anything again another message came through.
Helios: I wanted to just speak tonight but I must admit that shirt does something to me. Something about a girl with good music taste I suppose.
You giggled and picked up your book again âthis shirt has quickly become something Iâm scared of but now that you say that, my sun, maybe I wonât feel that wayâ you rattled off before realizing your slip up. Youâve always called helios your sun in your head, never aloud. And he caught it too. You froze. If the camera could see your face heâd know you were shaking in fear.Â
Helios: Your sun..
My lily girl -Â
You have no idea.Â
And with that Helios had disconnected from the call and you were left sitting there terrified you ruined one of the good things this damned side job had brought you.Â
Getting up to clean your filming set up and put it away you looked to your laptop to see payment waiting for you from Helios. You were about to shoot him a message saying it was not necessary for such a short call and thatâs when you saw the amount. Their waiting from him was 1200 dollars. The same amount you needed to make for rent by the end of the week. You were shaking you didnât know what to say or do. You sent him an immediate message.Â
You: Helios, you are so generous and kind. There mustâve been a mistake here. Thereâs no need for that much for such a short session. And I over stepped my boundaries I apologize.Â
It wasnât long until you got an answer.Â
Helios: No mistake here. Please. Take it. I will see you again soon.
You closed your laptop in shock. Aimlessly you went to continue cleaning your room and house. After awhile you decided it was the best it could get before Greta Van Fleet decided to enter your home and you retreated to bed.Â
When you awoke you were still thinking back to the events of last night and had to check on your laptop if it was all a dream. Once you realized it wasnât you got up and begin to do your morning routine for the day but kept eyeing up your laptop. While waiting for your breakfast to heat up you decided to send a reply to Helios.Â
You: I canât thank you enough for what youâve done for me. Thursdays are my usual as you know but this is enough so that I could have a week or even two off..I think I may do that. However you say the word and tell me what you would like. Iâll be ready for you and you only as my deepest thanks.Â
You take a deep breath, hit send, and closed the laptop. After eating you decide to go to the yoga studio and utilize the free sessions that are offered to you for being an employee. Meditation is certainly what you needed for tonight. Of course as you entered the studio you were greeted by your favorite headache at your heels.Â
âSuperfan!â called Sam as you turned towards the locker room, you paused and looked back âare you excited for your housewarming party tonight?â you sent back a grin.Â
âIâm terrified actuallyâ you walked up to him âbut since we are all here together, want to do the morning meditation together?â He nodded happily and you both walked towards the assigned room. âNo brother today?â you asked as you sat beside Sam on your yoga mat.Â
âHe likes to do this stuff alone honestly. Heâs only here a lot because I bought him a membership for Christmas and he really likes that one night time class, but I drag him along a lot.â You hum listening to his explanation and before you can chastise him for dragging his poor brother here, the class has begun. After a successful class you and Sam walked to your cars together and he stopped you.Â
âIâm free now if you want me to come get a head start?â Maybe it was the meditation that put you in a good enough mood but before you knew it you were telling him yes and he was following your car to the tiny house you began to call home.Â
âHonestly with everyone here this shouldnât take long, Iâve just been so busy between all my jobs and when I do get time off I tend to like to sleepâ you told them sheepishly. But no one judged. Everyone was intrigued to learn about your move, and your deserted roommate (whose stuff still occupied the other bedroom so you knew sheâd be back eventually), and how the record store made sense but you somehow found yourself roped into working at a yoga studio too, and now here you were. With you and six other people helping you, your living room completed in less than half an hour.Â
âWell since everyone is here and thereâs plenty of pizza and drinks, would you like to watch a movie?â you asked around and everyone agreed. You all piled onto the couch and everything felt right. You couldnât believe that this was your life right now but you wouldnât change it for the world. After the movie ended and everyone began to shuffle out it was Samâs loud mouth that snapped you out of your sleepy state and had everyone looking at you.Â
âWait a minute! Iâm the only one who got the grand tour! I think superfan might just be too embarrassed to show everyone else that their faces are on her wall because theyâre not as pretty as mineâ Sam said in a sing song voice earning a playful smack from his partner.Â
You couldnât tell whether to blush or groan or both as you now had three sets of chocolate eyes expecting to see what Sam was going on about.Â
âI really hope thereâs life size cut outs of us in her roomâ Danny joked following you down the hall.Â
âYou just enjoy getting to have the tallest oneâ shot back Jake.
âIf it is those I hope weâre still in one piece after having to deal with Sam so muchâ added Josh who shot you a wink. Unbeknownst to you, Josh knew exactly what was hanging on that wall and it made him jittery to face the truth.Â
You shook your head before opening your bedroom door for them âsorry to disappoint guys but itâs just the My Way Soon tapestry, which I will take down if you ask but I gotta admit I think it fits perfectly.âÂ
Danny whistled as they all piled into your room âthis room is so you y/nâ. Jake laughed spotting the aforementioned piece of fabric âthat tapestry definitely fits well there - keep itâ. They scanned their surroundings a bit before seeing how late it was on the clock and saying their goodbyes. You walked them out to the front door and said good bye to everyone but one. You didnât realize you left Josh behind in your room. And neither did anyone else because they had all departed.Â
You slowly went back to your room âJosh did you get lost?â but there he was standing in the middle of your room. His eyes a bit glazed over as they darted back and forth from your bed to each corner of your room until they settled on one path. You watched quietly as he traced the path with his eye movements a few times and then looked to you with a slight pink tint to his cheeks. It took you a moment when it hit you. He was following the angle your camera sits at. Oh god. He knew. You were frozen in your spot and he noticed. He flashed you a beaming smile and gently stepped towards you.Â
âY/nâ he started but you were still avoiding his gaze as he reached for you. His hand brushed against your forearm and his fingers traced your tattoo softly. You slowly lifted your eyes to meet his and his expression held a soft smile but you could still see the lust in his pupils and you swallowed. Your head was reeling. Josh recognized your room, heâs watched you before. While you didnât feel uncomfortable with his proximity and realization, you still wanted to run in embarrassment. He started to speak again ây/n Iâ but then his own words were caught on his tongue and he did something you didnât expect. He reached inside the neckline of his shirt and pulled out a necklace that was tucked beneath, he let it settle so you could see it on his chest. There in front of you on him was a pendant of the Sun. His fingers once more caressed your tattoo softly âplease forgive me for not telling you the moment I realized, I just didnât want to scare you, my lily girlâ and with that something inside you snapped.Â
Joshua Kiszka was standing in front of you. Calling you the name only your most loyal customer called you. Your most loyal customer named Helios after the sun god. His damned sun pendant. Oh good god Josh has always been the sun. You felt so stupid now. His interest in the Greta merchandise, Josh staring at and complimenting your tattoo, the gift of the exact cost of your rent, Samuel must have told him that and not known..You couldnât believe what was happening. And the signs were all there.Â
Josh could sense you were overwhelmed and was immediately moving you to sit on your bed and he took place beside you. âHey - hey y/n. Listen Iâm so sorry. I overstepped my boundaries. You can pretend that this never happened and I will not interrupt that part of your life ever again, okay?â he said while rubbing small circles on your back. You didnât say anything yet, honestly you couldnât find the words, but you wanted to reassure him in some way so you leaned into him and settled your head face first into his chest without thinking. He welcomed you with open arms and continued âI didnât want you to not know that I knew though. I do think you deserved that. And itâs just me I promise I didnât tell my brothersâ you could hear him take a deep breath and feel his chest rise and constrict against your face âand selfishly I never would have because I genuinely enjoyed you as both y/n and as my lily girl, and a part of me still hopes that I can still be your sun.â And with that he was now playing with your hair and you slowly sat back and looked to him.Â
âMe? Josh? You want me?â you asked quietly shaking with nerves. He immediately sensed what was happening here. You werenât scared of him or him knowing. You were scared of the implications and he suddenly found it endearing.Â
âOh my girl do I want you. And have I wanted you from the moment I stumbled upon you. Seeing you sitting at that studio desk and seeing your tattoo was a sign from the gods, maybe even a certain sun one, that this was meant to beâ he said to you with such assertiveness. You just started at him dumbfounded.Â
âJosh.âÂ
âYes?â
âKiss me.âÂ
He was pulling you into his lap with his lips on yours in an instant. Holding you close and cradling you like he might loose you he wasted no time licking along your bottom lip asking for permission to explore further. You let him in with no remorse. It was desperate and needy but it was not rushed. You sat perched in his lap like a queen on a throne and he held you up like such as you both melted into one another. Josh held your hips against his lap and slowly began rocking you into him. Your breathe hitched as you felt him grow hard beneath you through his light pants. You began to add your own weight into the rocking and after a particular angled roll of your hips you had him wrapping his arms around your back and groaning into your shoulder.Â
âDo you know how bad Iâve wanted this?â he nipped at your earlobe âHow many nights I watched you play with that pretty pussy while I held myself leaking for youâ he whispered as he kissed down your neck. You whimpered as he continued kissing and leaving little bites down your neck and collarbone. In one swift movement he had you both rolling onto the bed with you beneath him. With your legs slotted beneath his he continued to roll his hips downward and grind against your core.Â
âGod being in this bed on top of you itâs like a dream come trueâ he kept praising you as his hands wandered to the hem of your shirt raising it over your head and then following suit with his own. He continued on his path to undress you and reached for your pants slowly beginning to tug them down and you did the same for him. You let out a giggle at the realization.Â
âYouâve seen me here before, naked in this bed, ready to do as you please..but Iâve never got to see youâ you were staring at the outline of his cock as you spoke âdonât think youâre the only one who dreamed of this, my sunâ you stated pulling his boxers down and releasing his aching cock to curve against his stomach. You couldnât stop yourself from speaking âyouâre so beautiful.â He chuckled and leaned down kissing you once more.Â
âHow does my lily girl want it?â he asked as he teased himself against you. He let out a gasp as the tip of his cock ran against your folds and he felt how wet you already were. He propped on arm beside your head and snaked the other one down to run slow circles on your clot and you squirmed beneath him panting. He softly slipped a digit into your entrance and curled upwards eliciting a moan from you. Through gritted teeth he kept sweet talking you.
âEvery time I watched you put a finger in this pussy I wanted it to be mine, even when we werenât in a private session, I wanted to make you mine, needed to make this pussy mineâ he groaned adding a second finger and picking up the pace. You were breathing heavy and gripping at your sheets. With his thumb assaulting your clit and two fingers curling inwards you knew you couldnât last much longer.Â
âJosh Iâm close Iâm so-â you panted out looking up at him. He smirked and increased the pressure he was using and you saw stars. You were crying out his name and shaking as you came clenched around his digits. Gently letting you ride it out he slowed his pace before pulling his fingers out and bringing his hand to his mouth and licking them clean eyes rolling back as he did so.Â
âOh fuck y/n you taste just as good as you look, but Iâm afraid I need to feel you clench like that around me before I go crazy.â Josh hummed before settling himself atop you and lining himself up with your entrance. He took the time to slowly rut himself between your legs before positioning himself that he could slip in with one movement. He pressed a kiss to your collarbone, to your neck, and then to your cheek before asking âare you sure you want this?â to which you frantically said yes in more of a whine than a word and he let out a breathy laugh before slowly letting himself slide into you. You gasped at the feeling. He was thicker than most youâve had before and the stretch was exciting. He took his time gently moving his hips in and out until on one thrust he was pressed into you all the way. You both locked eyes and you swore you shared the same thought. This was the perfect fit.Â
As he continued to thrust up into you, you felt nothing but immense pleasure and a twinge of comfort. He brought his forehead down to rest upon yours and you both found yourself in a steady rhythm matching each others breaths. After a shift in angle you jolted in shock and couldnât help the moan that came from your chest. He looked at you with a smirk and quickened his pace at that angle. You were reaching around to grab onto his back and were sure you were leaving indents with your nails but you didnât care. His name was falling from your lips over and over like a chant and you could feel him begin to twitch each time you clenched around him.Â
âOh god I can feel you squeezing around meâ he panted into your ear âlet it go baby please give it to me you know itâs what I wantâ he continued his movements and nipped at your ear. You were whining underneath him trying to hold yourself as collected as possible but you couldnât. Youâve never felt this good in bed before. You let out a gasp after a hard thrust and looked at him nodding unable to form a coherent thought. âThatâs it lily girlâ he cooed âcum around my cockâ he kept at the steady but firm pace he set and reached down with one hand to apply gentle pressure on your clit sending you over the edge. Your legs trembled and you clawed at his back crying out his name as you came undone once more underneath him. You watched as his jaw fell slack as he fucked you though it. You could feel in the stuttering of his hips that he was close too. âSuch a good girl giving me what I neededâ he moaned âwhere - where do you want me?â he tried not to slow down but you could tell he was teetering on the edge and needed to hear you give him instructions quickly. What he didnât expect was your breathy response in his ear that mad even his legs shake âmake me yours, like you said, do it Joshâ.
With a final groan his eyes were glazed over once more looking down at you as he pressed himself fully into you, hips flush with yours as he pumped himself into you. You welcomed the warm sensation of him filling you with a moan and let him collapse onto you once he was finished. After a few minutes of the two of you just breathing while entangled with him a top you. He shifted to softly caress your arm and placed a gentle kiss on the lily on your arm leaving you blushing. âWhereâs your bathroom? Letâs get you cleaned upâ he slowly shifted off of you, pulling himself out with a groan. Even in your fucked out state you saw him look down and intently watch as the mess you both had made began to drip down your thigh. You pointed to the room right across the hall and he was slowly getting up reaching for his shirt and patting the sweat from his chest and stomach before walking across to the bathroom and returning with a washcloth. He gently wiped you down and then began lifting you from the bed with a tug on your arm.
âI started us a bath - I hope thatâs okayâ you smiled and kissed him in response âhow about you go and get in and Iâll swap these sheets out? good thing I was so astute when unpacking the living roomâ he joked with you.Â
You mumbled a thank you towards him as you embraced him before heading to the bathroom. It wasnât long until he was following behind leaning next to the edge of the tub as you sat in the water.Â
âYouâre not joining?â you asked softly and he smirked.Â
âWasnât sure if you wanted me to or notâÂ
Pressing yourself up closer to the faucet to make more space you looked at him with pleading eyes and he took the hint. Slowly climbing in and finding his seat behind you he sunk into the water with a content sigh. Once he was settled you moved so that your back was flush to his chest and you were nestled against him. You both sat in comfortable silence as he traced patterns up and down your arms and across your chest.Â
âDo you want to talk about it tonight or tomorrowâ you turned to look at him hesitant to ask. Giving you a kiss on the forehead and a smile he just hummed and continued with his fingertips across your skin.Â
âHow about tomorrow my lily girl? Letâs enjoy this moment for now and get some sleep and in the morning if you donât chase me out, then In would love to discuss where we go from here. I hope you know it mustnât be anywhere farâ he nipped at your ear once more and dropped his voice to a whisper âyouâre mine now I donât intend on giving that up so fast.â You pressed yourself back into him with a shiver and he chuckled. Once the water began to grow cold you both departed the bath and headed for bed. Reaching for your pile of pajamas you grabbed the pair you wore last night and slipped them on turning to Josh with a giggle. He beckoned you to him and pushed you down onto the bed âthese are cute ones alrightâ he mused reaching his hand from beneath the fabric of the shorts to grasp the curvature of your ass. He was holding you from behind and reached his other hand to caress your breasts from underneath your shirt. He knew he was working you up and it spurred him on.Â
âOne more for me? Can you do that?â he asked from behind and you nodded with a gentle whine. He kissed you and reminded you how much of a good girl you were for him as his hand on your ass moved to nestle itself between your folds. He was gentle but fast as he touched you bringing you to your release once more. Once satisfied he retreated his hand and licked himself clean once more earning a moan from both of you at the display. He settled the both of you into the bed and pulled the covers over letting you drift asleep still pressed into his chest.Â
In the morning when you awoke you were still entrapped by his arms and all that was left to do was nuzzle yourself closer and thank the gods (sun gods of course) and a certain someone named Samuel for putting you on this path in life. Your moment of peace was not long held as both your and Joshes phones were pinging off the hook. He groggily let go of you and reached for his at the same time you opened yours to read.Â
Sammy S: Why is my favorite employee not at the record store today?
He sleepy head you normally don't sleep this long!
Jake said Josh never came home did you kidnap my brother.Â
Y/N I know I called you a superfan but now Im scared..Â
By this point Josh was reading over your shoulder after seeing that he also had a string of texts from Sam that ended with âYOU DID NOTâ. He continued to read his brothers texts with you and you both began laughing.Â
Dude why are you not responding.Â
Okay maybe you didn't kidnap him. Josh texted Jake last night that he was with a girl, did you know about this?
Y/N..why is his location is still at your house?!Â
DID YOU SEDUCE MY BROTHER?!Â
You turned to Josh laughing at Samuel's stupidity. It was endearing honesty. âWell, did I seduce you?â you asked wiggling your eyebrows.Â
âLike a witch. I must say I am quite entrapped by your spell, whats your secret?â he asked looping his arm around you pulling you into them now that you were both sat up in bed.Â
You leaned into his chest and let yourself settle there like it was where you always belonged.Â
âJust some flower meant to symbolize innocence and a very charming god of the sun.â The following laugh that rumbled from his chest and through your core told you that you were finally home.Â

JAKE POV
âDid you hear me, Jake?â
Your head snaps to the side, your mind refocusing on the conversation being had around you. Josh stares at you with a questioning look on his face, his arms crossed against his chest.Â
âWhat? Yeah,â you lie, âThat sounds fine.â
âYouâre not even listening to me. I asked if you knew what time the van was supposed to be here... Whatâs up with you? Where are you this morning?â he asks, his tone a little more defensive than usual.Â
âHuh?â Your eyes flick back to the elevator, your heart beating a little faster than usual as the caffeine starts to swirl around in your bloodstream. You know that any second Y/N is going to step off that elevator and join the rest of you in the lobby.Â
You canât seem to shake the kiss from your mind, falling asleep last night playing it over and over in your head. The way her lips felt, soft and warm and so pink. You arenât really sure why you decided to do it. You werenât going to, but youâre glad you did. Youâd thought of nothing else since, and after the little exchange you had after the fact, you were feeling something that you didnât feel too often, if ever. Nervous.Â
You didnât even know what you were going to say to her today. What do you say after something like that? Should you say anything at all? You know you pushed a professional boundary last night, on the very first night no less. She is your employee, and you are her boss and those two things typically donât mix well. But you felt something, something you havenât felt in a long time, and you are certain she must have felt it too.Â
You look back to Josh, suddenly realizing that if youâre feeling nervous, heâs going to pick up on it. You try to compose yourself, adjusting your jacket on your shoulders and your sunglasses on your nose before turning your full attention back to him.Â
âSorry, just jet lag. I think itâs supposed to be here at 10:00,â you pause, glancing at your watch. âItâs 9:56 right now.â
âSince when do you wear a fuckinâ wrist watch? Are you eighty-five?â he quips, huffing a laugh.Â
You suck your teeth at him, raising a brow. âSince now, fuck you.â
He changes the subject, turning to Sam and Daniel just as the elevator chimes and the doors start to open. Your heart is beating erratically at this point, and you curse yourself for it. You should not be feeling like this. It was one kiss, Jake. It didnât even mean anything. It was for show.
Right?
You swallow nervously, licking your lips as people start to step out of the elevator. You try to look like youâre engaged in the conversation happening in front of you, but youâre not. She wonât know that though. Your eyes are fixed on the elevator, waiting for your first glimpse of her this morning. Sheâs one of the very last to step out, her hair hanging in her face as she focuses on her phone. You hear Paul call her name, waving her over towards him and Wes with paperwork in hand.Â
She looks up just long enough to spot them, returning her gaze to her phone to finish up whatever it is sheâs doing. She steps up to them, just out of your immediate sight, but you can still hear them talking as they greet her. Out of the corner of your eye you see Paul hand her the piece of paper he was waving, telling her that the venue has the official hospitality rider, but that the highlighted items needed to be picked up and brought to the venue by her. A chill runs up your spine. What did you request? Why canât you remember what you asked for? Fuck.Â
She turns her head as Wes and Paul continue to talk. You can feel her eyes on you, burning into the side of your head as Josh drones on about German water quality. You want to look at her, in fact, youâre dying to see that same pink blush that colored her cheeks last night, but you donât turn your head. You force yourself to pretend she isnât even there. You stare off into the distance, letting your mind wander, the noise around you turning into a hum.Â
âJakeâŠâ Josh shouts, snapping his fingers in front of your face, âHello? Are you braindead suddenly?â
âFuck, sorry. WhatâŠâ you growl, refocusing again.Â
âGet with it man, I said the van is here. Letâs go,â he answers, nodding towards the door as he follows the rest of the crew outside.Â
You walk with your hands in your pockets, letting your thumb nail glide over each fingertip in an attempt to bring you back down to earth. You need to get your head right. Snap out of it. You fall to the back of the group, waiting for everyone to load into the two black vans, ready to take you to your venue for the evening. Before you could stop yourself you were looking over your shoulder for her, catching her eyes for the briefest moment before looking away. Fuck, sheâs so pretty.
âYou want the window?â Josh asks, elbowing your arm.Â
âHuh? Yeah thatâs fineâŠâ you answer blankly, your mind still flooded with the image of her. As you turn back to Josh you see his focus change, locking in on Y/N as she steps up to the two of you. The very last thing you expected.Â
âHi, good morning, feeling any better?â she asks. You look to her, then to Josh, remembering he sent her out for medicine last night. You're completely frozen in place as the two of them speak, and youâre sure your face is showing exactly what youâre feeling. Panic.
Josh looks at you for a second, then back to Y/N, very obviously picking up on the nerves pulsing through you as he snickers. âYesâŠIâŠamâŠThank you again for doing that last night. I appreciate it.â
You can smell her perfume as it dances through the air, the same sweet floral smell from the plane yesterday. You canât help but to turn your head and look at her, your eyes drifting to the column of her neck where you know the smell is even stronger. You imagine the way it would feel to kiss her there. The taste of her skin. The sounds she would make. The feeling of her rapid pulse beneath your lipsâŠ
Shit. No.Â
âNo problem at all, Josh. Let me know if I can grab you anything else,â she smiles, âIâm off to the market!â
She looks at you for just a second waiting to see if youâre going to say anything, but you donât, instead offering her a curt smile and nodding your head. Smooth. Really nice, Jake. Â
She walks away, heading towards the second van with Wes and the rest of management and you feel a wave of relief wash through. You had a little more time to get your head right before you talked to her. You let out a breath, your eyes flicking over to Josh who is looking at you with a knowing look on his face. You shake your head and walk away, ready to load into the van with your backpack slung over your shoulder. Your heart is beating fairly hard and you haven't even spoken to her. Why is she having this effect on you?
You settle on the bench seat, Josh and Ty sliding in next to you. You place your backpack between your legs and pull your phone from your coat pocket, pretending to busy yourself to avoid the conversation you already know is coming.
The app isnât even open yet before Josh starts to speak, âAlright letâs hear it, Jake. â
You know thereâs no use in pretending to be busy, he wonât stop until you answer him. You lock your phone and slide it back into your pocket letting out an aggravated sigh.Â
âHear what, Josh? Why do you already want to start this morning, huh? Canât I have a moment of peace?â
âOh please, I could feel your fucking heart pounding like it was in my own chest!â He tilts his head to the side in an attempt to force the truth out of you. He knows he's got you cornered and he wants you to admit it.Â
You tilt your head mimicking him, giving him a look he knows well. You nod your head, silently telling him that youâll talk later. Now is not the time or place for any of it.
He stares at you blankly for a second, finally relenting as he turns back towards Ty. Safe for now. You needed to figure this out, quick.
You ride to the venue, listening to everyoneâs conversations but offering very little to them. You scroll through your phone, trying your best to keep to yourself, but perking your head up as Josh grabs your attention.Â
âThat reminds me, I talked to Paul. He said itâs going to take a week or so to get more security over here. Corri said she applied for the work visas this morning. Should have some guys over here in less than a week at the latest.â
âGood. Couldâve used someone last night,â you grumble, immediately regretting even letting the words slip from your mouth.Â
Joshâs head snaps over to you, a serious look in his eyes. âWhat do you mean? At the airport?â
You know you canât lie. He will know immediately. âNo, umâ Just after we checked in. Itâs nothing.â
âLast I talked to you, you were ordering room service and going to bed?â he asks, genuinely confused. Fuck, fuck, figure it out Jake.
âYeah, I did, justâ A little thing late last night. Everything ended up being fine. Isolated incident. Weâve got more security coming, it's all good,â you say, hoping he wonât press you on it any further, but as he looks at you with a threatening scowl you know youâll be recounting every last detail before the day is through.
â
Show days always bring along chaotic mornings that slowly mold into semi-peaceful afternoons, filled with warming your fingers up and psyching your mind up to perform. The four of you always try to keep show days generally the same, with giving yourselves a little bit of downtime before you have to arrive back at the venue after sound check. Today though, the day of the very first show, has already made your head feel like it is going to spin right off your neck. You can feel Joshâs prying eyes watching your every move, waiting for the opportune moment to jump down your throat again.Â
âGonna go grab something to drink from the green room, you guys want anything?â Sam asks you and Josh as you fumble around with the wireless mechanisms on your guitar.Â
âNah, Iâll get something in a minute,â you reply, watching as he and Danny descend the stairs off the stage and disappear out of sight.Â
Of course, within seconds your twin is inches from your face, somehow making himself seem bigger than you. âAlright, you gonna tell me about this little incident last night? Or am I gonna have to force it out of you?â he presses, and you know damn well that if you donât give him just the tiniest bit of explanation, he wonât let up. âWouldnât have happened to involve our new runner, would it?â
You sigh a heavy sigh, readjusting the blue-tinted glasses sitting on your nose. âCan you lay the fuck off for like two seconds? Jesus ChristâŠâ you back away, anxiously rubbing your hand over your mouth as you try to think of what to even say.Â
âDonât avoid the question, asshole. Tell me now. While everyoneâs gone,â he goes on, closing in on you again.Â
You bite your cheeks in, still contemplating. You stay silent, instead strumming a single chord on your guitar in response to him. You hear it echo across the empty venue, smirking to yourself. Sounds perfect.
âFuck you. Always doing that shit when youâre trying to avoid me. Drowning me out with your loud ass amps⊠alright. Fine,â Josh readjusts the hat on his head and stomps away across the stage. âIf you wonât tell me, Iâll just go ask her.â
All the blood quickly drains from your body. âOkay, okay, fuck. Come here,â you hold your hand up and signal him back, because you know for a fact he actually would have gone and found her. You stretch the muscles in your neck, rolling your shoulder beneath your guitar strap.Â
âY/N went out to a pub last night to get something to eat and have a drink, there was some creep there trying to take her home, wouldnât let up. She didnât tell Dean where she was going because it was so late, and she remembered I had⊠She had my number, so she asked me to come and walk her back to the hotel. Thatâs it.â
Josh eyes you with his lips pursed closed, trying to get a read if there was anything you were leaving out. Heâs gonna know, of course heâs gonna knowâŠ
â...Thatâs it?â
âThatâs it,â you concede. âIt happened really fast and the place was just around the corner from the hotel. I made it there in like two minutes. Guy was being a complete asshole to her,â you shake your head in disgust at the memory.Â
Josh crosses his arms across his chest as he exhales, squinting his eyes. âMmh, so you played hero, huh? I think thereâs more to the story than your little rescue mission⊠but. So she just happened to have your phone number, and no one elseâs? Like Paulâs perhaps?â You really need him to quit with the attitude.Â
âWe sat together on the plane for like, a hundred hours, Josh. Yes. She has my phone number because we were talking about her job duties. She will get the rest of yours eventually, Iâm sure. I was just first. FuckâŠâ you begin to wave him off as you start to feel overwhelmed with his twenty questions.Â
Luckily, Sam and Danny are coming back onto the stage now, the pounding of Dannyâs repetitive kick drum drowning out the sound of Joshâs persistence.Â
Joshâs eyes are squinting at you again as he takes the microphone in his right hand, turning away from it just enough for you to hear him. âIâll get to the bottom of this. As a wise man once said, itâs very interestingâŠâ
â
HER POV
Your legs carry you quickly through the winding halls to the green room. You can barely see over the brown paper bags in your hands, loaded full to the top with the items on your list this morning. It was a little more difficult of a task than you anticipated, but the translator app on your phone proved to be your best friend. You knew you had to be quick and you did your best, hoping that the items you found would suffice.Â
You push the door open with your foot, looking for the empty table where the items needed to be set up. You saw a few things that the venue provided sitting on a mostly empty wooden table, and knew thatâs where you needed to set up. You plop the heavy paper bags down, smiling as you notice a few drinks have already been scavenged.Â
You begin pulling things from the bags, setting up the fruit and vegetable trays, and starting to place a variety of drinks into an ice bucket. You pull the paper list from your back pocket, making sure you have everything out for each guy and that you didnât miss anything in your hurried state. As you make your way down the list you hear the door swing open and a rumble of voices enter the room.Â
You turn to find Josh stepping into the room with Jake flanking him as they talk. Your breath instantly catches in your chest as you make eye contact with Jake through his tinted sunglasses. His hair is a little more wavy today, curling up at the ends and resting just below his shoulders. It looks soft and you know it probably smells good as it flies through the air as he walks. His black button up is hanging loosely on his body, a sliver of his chest visible, but you tear your eyes away from him and turn back to your task. Youâre at work.Â
âThere she is! Howâs it going, Y/N? Things goinâ your way this morning?â Josh asks, walking over towards you with a smile.Â
It strikes you as strange, his over friendly greeting, especially when youâd talked more to Jake than to him and Jake hadnât even said hello to you today. You shake off the feeling and return the sentiment, turning to face the both of them.Â
âHi guys! Everything is good I think! Just getting all of this set up for you, sorry it took me so long. I was struggling with the German labels,â you smile, letting your eyes flick over to Jake. Heâs standing quietly behind Josh, not saying much but listening intently, eyes locked in on you.Â
âOh, no youâre fine, no rush at all. Weâve got hours until we go on,â he pauses, turning to Jake then back to you. âI heard about the little incident at the bar last night. Glad everything turned out okay for you, but just wanted you to know weâve got some more security coming this week. Should have someone that can head out with you from now on,â Josh finishes, nodding his head. His phone starts to ring before you can respond and he quickly pulls it from his pocket, glancing down at the screen with a sly smile.
âAhh, itâs Ty, I gotta take this. Iâll be back. Thanks for this, Y/N. Looks great!â he says, swiping a water bottle from the table and making his way out of the room as he answers the call.Â
You realize quickly that Jake did not follow him and is standing with his hands in his pockets eyeing the table behind you. Your mouth feels dry, any words you thought you would say suddenly stuck in your throat. You turn around and busy your hands trying to think of anything you can say that wonât sound stupid.Â
Your heart is pounding rapidly as you feel him moving towards you, taking the place next to you as he taps his fingers across the wooden table. He doesnât say anything, but you can tell he is struggling in the same way you are. The tension between you is almost tangible.
You reach into the paper bag, pulling the box of beers from the bottom and setting them on the table. You knew this had to be his request, the rider stating that a case of local craft beer was required.Â
You push the box in front of him, looking at him as it slides across the table. âThis was what was recommended for local beer. Was the best I could find, I didnât know if you liked light beer or dark beer, so I guessed. The cashier couldnât have been a day over nineteen, so I didnât exactly trust his opinion, butââÂ
You watch his face shift into a smile, a dimple popping out on his cheek as he nods through a laugh, âThis looks great, really.â
âAgain, I couldnât read anything in German, and the translator was really no help on this one,â you smile, feeling the tension between you starting to melt away.Â
He opens the box, pulling out the amber colored bottle and bringing it close to his face. He looks at it for a few seconds, attempting to read the label himself before finally shrugging his shoulders. âNo clue what that says, but looks perfect. Thank you, Y/N.â
You feel yourself blushing at the sound of your name leaving his lips, and you hope he canât see the heat spreading across your cheeks. He picks up the bottle and places the lid on the edge of the table, hitting it with his fist with just enough pressure to pop off the lid. It skitters across the table as he brings the bottle to his lips, taking a long pull of what you now see is a light beer.Â
âSâperfect,â he says, swallowing it down.. âYou uh, you wanna try it?â
You feel a flash of panic wash over you. You canât, right?
âI donât think I can? Right? Iâm at work. And I have like a thousand things to do,â you stammer, dying to say yes.Â
âSâjust me, I wonât tell if you donât,â he offers, peering at you above the frames of his sunglasses. You can see his brown eyes staring into yours, and you feel your insides melting into putty. You know you need to change the subject, and quick.Â
You quickly decide to decline the beer, knowing that you need every single ounce of clearheadedness for the evening you are about to endure. âAre you guys done already? That seemed⊠quick,â you pose, trying to turn your attention back to your duties to fill the awkward silence.Â
âUh no, not quite, theyâre just working with Josh right now,â he answers, stuffing his free hand in his pocket and taking another swig of his beer.Â
âAh,â you reply, slotting a strand of hair behind your ear as the awkwardness continues to grow. You know heâs just being nice, but you wished to god he would just go somewhere else to save you both the anxiety of acknowledging the elephant in the room. Alright. Get it together, Y/N. Youâre both adults, just speak your piece and get it over with. You take a quick breath, preparing yourself. âSo, what version of the story did Josh get?â
Jake nearly spits out his beer as your words hit him. âWhat? What story?â he asks, wiping the dribble of beer off his chin.Â
âI know you told him about last night, heâs being so overly nice to me it almost seems fake. Heâs buttering me up, isnât he?â you say, a bit of bite in your tone. Truly, you wonder exactly what Jake told him, and if it was the same story you remember.
Jake sucks his teeth as he looks away from you. âA very condensed one. Donât worry.â His words are blunt and pointed.Â
âOkay⊠so he doesnât know about⊠ya knowâŠâ you dance around the word, you donât even dare even say it.Â
âNo,â he cuts you off. âNo. I didnât go into that much detail. It⊠it didnât even matter anyway, right?â
âŠIt didnât matter?Â
It didnât matter. Oh.Â
âRight. No. Didnât matter at all,â you agree, feeling the knife turning in your chest. âWe had to do what we had to do to get out of there.â
âYeah, was nothing.â
Nothing?
Itâs quiet and awkward again as you try to brush off your feelings, suppressing the memory of the feeling of his lips on yours, his hands on your waist, his body pressing up against yoursâŠ
Youâve kissed a lot of people in your life, and youâre mature enough to know the difference between when someone wants to kiss you, and when someone justâŠis kissing you. And though you hate to admit it to yourself, Jake wanted to kiss you. There was no doubt about it. Chemistry is tangible. And the tension that formed between you last night during those few short seconds was nothing short of it. Pure chemistry. Ease. Like it was natural. And you werenât too dumb to realize it.
But⊠apparently he was.Â
Suddenly you hear the sound of the bass strumming out into the air, signaling that it was time to get things going again.Â
âRight. But uh, sounds like I gotta um, get back out there. So⊠thanks for um, thanks for the beers,â Jake backpedals and turns away toward the door as you return to your duties, busying your mind and hands again. Fuck, that couldnât have gone any worse.Â
You watch as he slams his body into the metal exit door, but stopping short when it doesnât budge. He pushes on it again, but it stands firm. You watch him struggle for just a few seconds before you decide to help him out.Â
âPull, Jake,â you say, stifling a laugh.Â
He yanks on the handle, the door flying open before him. âOh, yeah. Got it.â
You can see the pink rise to his cheeks as he makes his quick exit, and the laugh you were stifling finally busts through. Youâd managed to get Jake Kiszka flustered.Â
The sounds of the whole band echo down the hall, and you know you have a few free minutes to yourself, without the risk of one of them barging in again. Your mind drifts into autopilot as you finish setting up, replaying the last few minutes over and over in your head.Â
1. Josh knows. Well, Josh knows something.
2. The kiss⊠apparently it didnât mean anything to Jake. Just a careless action to get the weird man off your back. Of course it didnât mean anything to him. Heâs a famous rock star, he probably kisses girls all the time⊠right? And makes playlists for them. And adds his favorite songs to them just so they can listen along. And tells them that he fully intends to kiss them again. Right?
3. He was flustered leaving through that door just now. He fumbled. He blushed. People that donât care donât blush. Thatâs just basic science.Â
Everything is overwhelming your thoughts; you need assistance, and you need it now. You take one last look at the table in front of you, deciding that it is to your liking before dashing out the door to the back exit. You pull your phone from your pocket and bring up Ruthâs contact, hearing it ring out just a couple of times before her voice is yelling your name on the other end.Â
âShit, about time! Iâve been fucking dying over here!â she shouts into your ear, her voice full of excitement and rush. âIâve been scrolling their instagrams and TikToks and shit all. Fucking. Day, Y/N. When were you gonna tell me theyâre all hot as fuck, huh? And theyâre brothers?! Like real life brothers, except the one, right? But they were kids when they met?! Why is that so cute? Imagine having that much talent in one household. Shit, in one town! I bet their parents were exhausted like, always. And their MUSIC⊠hello? The guitarist is mindblowing, dude. And you kissed that man? On the lips?! Like full on contact, right? Was there tongue? Did he get into it? Where were you? I need to know all of these things in massive detail stat, bitch.â Ruth is absolutely rambling, and you know if you donât cut her off soon, you will never get a chance to speak at all.Â
âYes, Ruthie, I kissed the hot guitarist,â you confirm quietly, glancing around to be sure youâre alone. âNo, not really any tongue. We were in a restaurant, and the vibe was kinda strange, so. It didnât last long, but god, it was hotâŠâ you trail off, reminiscing for just a second. Youâre truly unable to get the feeling of his lips out of your head. âYes, three brothers, two twins, one honorary brother that might as well be. I havenât gotten a chance to truly get to know them all yet, so my details are skimpy. But listen, Iâm trying to stay professional, okayââ
âHun, if youâre lip-locking with that brown-eyed man on the first day you are wayyyyyyy past professional, Iâm just saying,â she wails into a condescending laugh.Â
âNo Iâm fucking not!â you yell back, fully prepared to tell her exactly why it was warranted. âListen, hereâs what happenedâŠâ you do as she says, and go into grave detail about the events on the plane, and in the restaurant, and the sweet additions to the playlist when you got back to your hotel room. You spared no detail because if Ruth is good at anything, itâs collecting specifics and cataloging them away, only to one day effortlessly put them all together into one big beautiful puzzle laid out for you on a shining silver platter. She has a knack for thinking of things realistically rather than living in a fairy tale, and youâre thankful for it. She keeps your sometimes wandering thoughts in check.Â
âShit, babe⊠what are you gonna do?â her voice was calmed now that youâve caught her up.Â
âI donât know, everything is just⊠happening really fast.â The early evening breeze blows your hair, and you can hear the distant chatter of their fans lined up and camping just around the corner of the building. Itâs almost showtime.Â
âI know whatâs gonna happen,â Ruth states matter of factly. âHeâs gonna add another song soon, you watch.â
âYou think? He left things kind of⊠awkward just now, I really donât think that he meant what he said last night, he was just caught up inââ
âY/N, he wouldnât say he fully intends to kiss you after you tell him to Do It Again⊠men lie but that seems⊠I dunnoâŠâ she goes on. âJust, donât make me wait so long between now and the next thing, okay? I know youâre busy kicking ass but please keep me informedâŠâ she begs.Â
âI will babe. I actually think itâs time for me to go. I promise I will text you tonight, okay?â
âIâll be staring at my phone. Good luck,â she replies, and you end the call with a quiet goodbye.Â
â
You take special care wrapping the steaming hot tea bag around the spoon, squeezing out the water before tossing it in the trash. Your eyes scan the table for the Whiskey, pouring in a shot or so to mix with the honey at the bottom. Joshâs instructions were very clear and you have made sure to follow them exactly, not wanting to miss a single step. You stir up the boiling hot drink and push it to the side, ready to start on Dannyâs. You grab the metal cup and add a scoop of ice, your eyes searching for the bottle of Tequila.Â
You feel your phone buzz in your back pocket as you pour the tequila into the cup, topping it off with soda water. You pull your phone out as you wait for the fizz to subside, but the sight on the screen steals away your focus.Â
âJake Added A Song to Your Shared Playlist: đ„â
Oh my god Ruth was right.
You quickly swipe open the notification with shaking hands, waiting as the shitty venue wi-fi tries to load the playlist. Isnât he getting dressed right now? Isnât he busy? Why is he doing this?
It finally loads and you scroll to the bottom, laughing to yourself as you see the song he added two minutes ago, âBack In Blackâ by AC/DC. You know the song well, but much like you did last night, you search your mind for what he is trying to say. You think on the lyrics, nothing really sticking out to you in regards to the situation the two of you have found yourself in, but you press play anyway, listening to the familiar and catchy intro. It has to mean something, right? You nod your head along with the song as you finish making everyoneâs drinks, blushing to yourself as you realize that he was thinking about you.Â
Should you reply? Is there even a response to that? You donât even really know what he is trying to say. You pick up your phone from the table and begin to search through your favorites, seeing if there is anything that could serve as a worthwhile reply but youâre quickly interrupted by the door being flung open and Paul grabbing your attention.Â
âTwo minutes âtil stage, guys are walking,â he says, and just like that he disappears again.Â
You shove your phone in your pocket and snatch up all the drinks, quickly following after him with your armful of drinks. Your heart starts to race, you can feel the adrenaline filling the building, the ground is rumbling with the sound of the intro music and the screams of anxious fans.Â
You position yourself at the base of the stairs, knowing they will grab their drinks from you as they make their way onto the stage. The chaos and commotion backstage is overwhelming, and you find yourself starting to pick up on the nervous, frazzled energy. Sam is the first to spot you with an eager grin, plucking the grapefruit Topo Chico from your hand as he scurries across the stage to place it on his amp. Daniel is not far behind him, drumsticks in hand as he approaches you with a shy smile.
âOne of those for me?â he asks playfully, reaching for his metal cup.Â
âAll yours! Have a good show!â you answer, watching him walk up the stairs and towards his kit.Â
The lights are starting to dim, the music growing louder as the time draws closer. You donât see Josh, or Jake for that matter, and you find it a little strange that there was no drink request for Jake, but you chalk it up to him likely not having time to drink much during the show. Suddenly Josh appears from the hallway, a vision in white satin, looking almost ethereal. He is frantically putting in his in-ears, and reaching for his mic, eyes locking on you as you hold out his tea towards him.
âAhh, excellent, thank you so much, letâs have a good show, yeah?â he smiles, squeezing your shoulder as he bounds up the stairs to place his drink on Dannyâs platform. Youâre so caught up in watching Josh float around the stage in a cloud of white chiffon and crystals that you donât notice that Jake is walking towards you.Â
When you do turn around you find him only a few feet away, the stage lights catching the black beads of his suit coat, sparkling like onyx. The satin suit is fit to his body, leaving very little to the imagination. His jacket is open, his chest bare save for a few silver necklaces he seems to always be wearing. This is the most of him youâd seen at this point, and the definition of his chest and the lingering tan on his skin has you breaking out into a cold sweat. You swallow harshly as you see the eyeliner he has added to his waterline, and you feel yourself physically backing up to brace yourself on the stair rail behind you. Holy shit.
You find yourself wishing you had a drink for him, anything actually, just to have an excuse to talk to him. His guitar tech meets him as he walks, twisting the knob on his wireless receiver and handing Jake the vintage red Gibson. He tosses the strap over his shoulder, positioning it across his body and releasing his hair from beneath the strap. You watch him as he mouths a muffled âthank youâ to Johnny, giving him a grateful smile as he continues to walk. Â
The stage lights behind you have shifted, and the music is coming to a close. He has to be on stage in seconds but itâs as if he is on his own time, moving so effortlessly through the dimly lit wing. The lights hit him just right and his eyes meet yours in a smug grin. Suddenly the song makes sense. His suit is completely custom, hand beaded, all black satin. Fucking hell, the cockiness of this man.
You expect him to climb the stairs to meet his brothers, but instead he steps up to you, resting his hand on the body of his guitar. âNothing for me?â he asks, arching a brow and flashing you a sideways smile.Â
âTheâ the list! There wasnât anything on the list for you, Iââ
The lights overhead are starting to flash, the crew calling for thirty seconds through the walkie-talkies. You glance around panicked that you clearly missed the memo on a drink for Jake. Fuck!
He smiles at you as he laughs, âIâm just kidding, I donât put it on the list with theirs. I bring my own.â
âWell where is it?!â you ask, a hint of panic in your voice.
âAh, I left it in the greenroom. Was a bitâŠbusy with something else,â he says, trying to stifle a smile.
You can barely hear him, doing your best to read his lips over the shrill screaming coming from the crowd. He seems to sense this, leaning towards you and placing his hand on your shoulder. His lips brush against your ear as his fingertips press into your skin. You can feel his guitar pressed against your stomach, his fingers guarding the strings, âDo you know where my backpack is?â he asks, whispering into your ear.Â
You shake your head, and truth be told the proximity of this manâs mouth to your body has you unable to even remember your own name, let alone where his backpack is.Â
His fingers tap your shoulder as he holds it, pulling away his head just slightly to look at you. He licks his lips and leans back in, âItâs in the corner of the dressing room, by the couch. Go find it for me? My drink is in there.â
âJake, stage left go,â the walkie calls out, and he pulls away again, giving you a smug smile.
You look at him, taking him in completely before he steps onto the stage. âWait, Jake! Your in-ears! Where are your monitors?!â you shout in a panic.
He smiles and laughs as his hand squeezes your bicep, tilting his head down a little and letting his eyes peer into yours, âI donât wear in-ears, baby.âÂ
He pulls away quickly, sprinting up the steps, looking over his shoulder at you one last time before disappearing out of view. Baby? Did he just call you baby? Your heart is pounding in your chest as you try to catch your breath. You feel frozen in place, only spinning your body enough to watch the four of them take their places on the platform at the back of the stage. Jake is on the very end, running a hand through his hair, just as the music stops and the curtain falls in front of them. The crowd screams violently as Josh starts to speak, nodding to Jake to kick things off.Â
Danny jumps down off the platform and onto his kit, as Sam prances down the steps with his bass. The guitar sounds fill the venue as Jake starts to make his way down the shiny metallic steps. His eyes flick over to the side stage, catching yours for a moment as a smile lights up his face. You are in complete shock, surely this is not the man you kissed last night. The man that was stumbling over his words today, and pushing a pull doorâŠ?Â
His hand lifts from the guitar for just a second as he motions a signal for âdrinkâ to you as if heâs holding an invisible cup to his lips. You quickly snap out of it when you remember his instructions. You tear yourself away, making your way back to the green room in search of his backpack. The room is quiet when you enter, empty, not a soul in sight. You can hear the rumble of the bass in your chest as your eyes scan the room for the black leather backpack, finally spotting it behind the couch.Â
You walk over to it, crouching down in front of it and lifting the flap. You unzip the top finding it full to the brim. Your hands are shaking as you carefully sift through his things. His phone is on the very top of the pile, a black leather case with an embossed âJTKâ on the bottom right corner. Your heart flutters in your chest knowing that he adds the songs to your playlist from this very phone. You toss it aside, continuing to look through the bag, your fingers snagging on his tangled pile of headphones. You work quickly to untangle them, wrapping the cord around itself in a neat coil before dropping them back into the bag. Your hands find a change of clothes, a pair of black pants and a white t-shirt nestled under a pair of printed black boxers. Your breath catches as you realize what youâre touching but you try not to think too much of it. Find his drink.Â
Your hands feel around at the very bottom of the bag, finding dozens of guitar picks, a capo, a few hair ties, what feels like maybe his wallet, a glasses case, and a passport book. Your fingers land on something glass, and you pull it from the bag, but quickly find out itâs not what youâre looking for. This is a bottle of cologne, fairly expensive from the looks of it. You look around the room before pulling off the small silver cap, and breathing in the scent you remember from last night. Fuck it smells so good.Â
Put it away, Y/N.Â
You push everything over to the other side of the bag, finally spotting what you were looking for front and center. You grab the neck of the wine bottle, pulling out the entirely full bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Interesting choice for him, but you guess you donât really know too much about him just yet.
You quickly zip up his bag and rush over to the drink table, grabbing the metal chalice and filling it to the brim with his white wine. It sloshes over the edge a bit as you rush back out to the stage, doing your very best not to spill it in its entirety before it even makes it to him.Â
Youâre positively out of breath by the time you make it to the stairs, your hand dripping with the sticky wine as you watch Jake just stepping into a guitar solo. He walks across the front of the stage engaging with the crowd on the barricade, his fingers moving faster than lightning through a song you can honestly say youâve never heard. You know you will get to know these songs very well over the next few months, and what better way to hear them than live.Â
You peek around the curtain as you watch him crouch down, standing quickly to throw his head back, the faint echo of his voice as he yells to his guitar drifting to the side stage. His body is covered in sweat and his hair sticks to his neck as he catches sight of you with his drink. You hear a few people talking behind you but you canât seem to care, or rip your eyes away from him. He is a completely different person on stage than the man you sat next to on the plane, and even in the bar last night, and to be quite honest, you didnât know which version of him you wanted more.Â
JAKE POV
The spotlight descends away from you as you finish out your solo, the crowd already going absolutely wild. It feels so good to be back here again, allowing yourself to get immersed in the feeling of the instrument in your hands and the effect it has on the people listening and watching. Sweat is already pouring from your face and chest, and youâre only three songs in. For a second, youâd completely forgotten that youâd sent Y/N on a mission for your drink.Â
You hope sheâs finding it, given you had kind of hidden the backpack behind a couch to stay out of plain sight. In the back of your mind, you quickly picture her picking through the bag stuffed with your things, and you smirk when you realize she probably is seeing a bit more into your personal life than she had anticipated, tonight. But for some reason, you donât feel embarrassed by it.Â
You back up toward your amps as Josh continues to sing, and you see her from the corner of your eye, standing side-stage with your chalice in hand. Oh, so sheâs a good listener. Noted.Â
Now that you arenât at the center of attention, you realize you are a bit thirsty. The four of you finish out the song and the lights go down, and you take the opportunity to run to her to grab your drink.Â
You haphazardly grab it as she hands it to you with utmost caution, handling it as if it were made of gold.Â
âShit!â You canât help but laugh out loud, noticing that the rather large cup is filled all the way to the brim with your wine. You take a big gulp down to empty it a little.Â
âSorry, sorry careful, I didnât know how much you wanted and I assumed you wouldnât want refills!â she crams all her words together into one big sentence as you chuckle at her again. Damn, even in the dim lighting you can see how pretty she is. Your heart literally skips a beat as she finally meets your eyes.Â
âSâokay, this is perfect. Thank youâŠâ you whisper as you place a quick hand onto her waist, backing yourself away from her. Should you have touched her there? Maybe not, but it just happened. You make your way back over to set the cup down safely in a place you know it wonât spill. You make quick eye contact with Danny as he waits for you to cue him in to the next one, but his look is laced with something else, curiosity. He definitely saw your encounter. And he knows that you normally donât place your hand ever-so-gently on your runnerâs waists. Fuck fuck fuck.Â
You return his prying eyes with an upturned chin, silently telling him to mind his own business. You finish out the show, feeling good again as you begin to show off just a little. You always show off, but for some reason, this time feels more important. You have someone to show off for.Â
You glance to the side stage again and see that Y/N is standing with Ty, Mia, and Lyla as they watch the show. That feels strange, you think to yourself, seeing her grouped together with all your brothersâ significant others, getting along and talking closely. Your stomach churns at the thought of actually liking it.Â
No, Jake. No. You know this isnât right.
Twenty minutes later you find yourself waving goodbye to what was one hell of a crowd, and you join the other three as you descend the stairs to backstage. Your ears are ringing as you walk through the darkness toward the light of the hallway, realizing that she is the first person you see when you finally get there. Sheâs standing with Paul, listening to his instructions as she hands each of you a clean black towel. Youâre last in line, and you grin a little as she tosses your towel to you instead of the gentle handoff she did for your brothers.Â
The tiniest smile crosses her face as she keeps intent eye contact with Paul, taking in all of his words when you know her mind is racing with thoughts of you. Her face blushes with pink as you pass her. That wasnât unnoticed, babe.Â
You rush back to the green room to try and beat Danny to the shower, knowing that he is probably already stripped down and getting inside. When you find your prediction to be true, you decide to take off your jacket and kick back on the black leather couch to finish off your heavy-handed pour of wine.Â
âYou guys wanna go to this bar I found?â Josh proposes.Â
âBit dangerous right after a show, donât you think?â Sam chimes as he hangs his satin jacket on the rolling rack.Â
âThis one is like, 6 blocks away and kind of hidden. Probably wonât be anyone there, I did some research. Plus they have Fernet Branca. I need a few shots to keep this fuckinâ cold at bay,â Josh explains as Ty starts to help him remove the rhinestones from his face.Â
âBleugh, I donât see how you drink that nasty shit,â Sam says with disgust.Â
Josh scoffs at him. âMight be nasty, but it fucking works!â
You lean over the arm of the couch and retrieve your backpack, sifting through to find your clean change of clothes. You smile as you realize she more than likely saw your black boxers covered in flamingos. As you zip the bag back up, you notice your earbuds sitting at the bottom of the bag. They had been rolled into a perfect flat coil, with the wire tucked and tied into itself. Your heart sinks when you realize she had taken the time to sort them for you, probably remembering the mess of tangled wires on the plane.Â
Should you add a song?Â
No. You did already. Get it together. This woman has your mind running marathons.Â
But a bar as a distraction? Perfect.Â
âYeah, letâs go check it out. Iâm getting a shower,â you make the executive decision as you stand from the couch, slapping Dannyâs towel-covered ass as you pass him on your way to the bathroom.Â
ââ
âJake, you cominâ or what?â Sam asks, slinging his backpack over his shoulder.Â
âYeah, give me a sec,â you answer, pretending to fumble through your backpack. He nods and heads out the door with Lyla, leaving you alone in the greenroom.Â
You haven't seen Y/N since you came off the stage, panting, filled with adrenaline, and in desperate need of a towel. You showered quickly and changed into your clothes, hoping you wouldnât miss her coming into the green room. You were going to ask her to join you at the bar, and you were hoping she would say yes. Though, you havenât seen her, and now thirty minutes have passed and the van is leaving. You consider sending her a text, but remember there was no response to your last song. It had been your feeble attempt to lighten the tension from earlier in the day, so you figure you should let it be. Tonight was probably crazy for her, and you want her to ride the post show high as long as she can.Â
You throw your backpack over your shoulder and make the trek to the van, finding everyone rearing and ready to hit the bar. A drink does sound good, a stiff one. You slam the door shut and let out a sigh, feeling the van pull out of the gates and into traffic. You see a few fans lined up against the fence hoping to catch a peek at the four of you, so you all wave through the window praying they wonât follow you.Â
You kick yourself for being this caught up over a woman you met only yesterday. This was not supposed to happen. You wanted to clear your head, not screw it up even more. You took in a deep breath, letting it pass through your lips as the van rounded the corner and came to a stop in front of the bar. You couldnât read the name of the bar, something foreign in burned out neon, but Josh seemed to know that you were at the right place. You all stepped out of the van, making your way into the decently crowded bar. You were thankful that no one seemed to notice you, the group of you making your way to the back of the bar and piling into a round wooden booth.Â
Josh volunteers to grab the first round, and you signal to him for your usual, not needing to say a word for him to understand. Lyla and Mia instantly strike up a conversation about the show, Sam and Daniel hanging on their every word. You listen to what theyâre saying, pretending to be engaged in the conversation, but your mind wanders quickly. The exhaustion of your body is starting to set in, mixed with the already present jet lag, you feel yourself spiraling quickly. You know that drink will bring you back to life though, and you hope Josh hurries.Â
You wonder where Y/N is. What she is doing. What she thought of the show. If she felt that same electricity you did when you touched her. You quickly shake your head of the thoughts, returning to the present when Josh sets your drink down in front of you.Â
He and Ty slide in next to you as the rest of the group starts to sip on their own drinks. You straighten in your seat, trying to give everyone a little more space as Josh starts to speak.Â
âHell of a kick offâŠâÂ
âYeah, no fuck ups either,â Sam adds, elbowing Danny.Â
âJake? Notes?â Josh nods, waiting for you to add your two cents.
âYeah, yeah I think it was a good show, need to keep that energy for the rest of the run. Think that transition from Heat Above to Highway could be a little tighter if weâre gonna keep that on the set, butââÂ
âYou seemed especially talkative tonight, thought I was gonna have to turn my monitors up to drown out your screaming,â Josh jokes. You cut your eyes at him in annoyance. Itâs not like you could help it.Â
âOnly screaming to drown out the sound of your voice, brother,â you quip, taking a sip of your drink. Tequila soda, extra lime.
âPlease, I think you were just having a little Jake moment because of a certain someoââ
âFuck off, Josh, seriously,â you spit.Â
âOh, who, the runner? Y/N?â Danny asks, turning to face you with a shit eating grin.Â
âYep.â Josh answers, popping the âpâ.
You send a threatening look to Josh, and he knows he needs to drop it. âI donât know what youâre all on and on about. Can you just drop it? Christ.â
âYou sure man? I saw that little exchange side stage. Looked more than friendly,â Danny adds, and of course you knew it was coming.Â
Lyla sends you a questioning look, and you quickly look away before she has time to examine things any further. Her gaze travels to Mia, the two of them looking at each other before turning back to you.Â
âAnyway, DanielâŠyou and Sam need to watch my cue for Highway, Iâll let Josh do his little spiel, heâll signal me, and Iâll signal you. I donât think anyone noticed tonight, but let's not do that again, yeah?â
Everyone nods in agreement as you toss back the rest of your drink in frustration. You motion for Josh and Ty to let you out, desperate to get out of this booth and get another drink. You make your way to the bar, standing amongst the other patrons waiting their turn. You pull your phone from your pocket, hoping to see something, anything from her, but it's empty, the same as it was ten minutes ago. Should you text her?
No. Stop thinking about her, fuck.Â
You order a new drink, a double this time, hoping it will help you clear your head of this woman. You weave through the crowd with your drink in hand as you make your way back to the table, however when it comes into sight you see none other than Paul, Wes and Y/N standing in front of it.Â
You take a large sip from your glass, clearing your throat and trying to regain your composure. You definitely werenât expecting her to show up. A wave of nerves washes over you as you see her standing there, dark jeans and a black top, her hair hanging down her back in waves. Your eyes travel straight back to her ass, hugged so perfectly in her jeans you almost have to head to the bathroom to fix yourself. You drag your eyes back up towards the table, your chest growing warm as you watch her talk to Josh, secretly wishing it was you.Â
You approach the group, laying a hand on Paul's shoulder to get his attention. He turns to you and shakes your hand with a smile, followed by Wes. You slide into the booth next to Mia, setting your drink in front of you as Josh continues to talk to Y/N.Â
âY/N, why donât you hang with us? Weâre more fun than these old guys,â Josh laughs, playfully slapping Paulâs arm.Â
She turns to look at Paul who is shrugging his shoulders and nodding, âWouldnât hurt to get to know these fools.â
You can see a look of hesitation on her face, her eyes flick to Josh and Sam, then to Daniel and finally to you. They linger for a second before she nods her head, agreeing to spend her evening with the group of you. She takes a seat next to Ty as he pushes Josh over to make room for her. You smile a little watching her get settled, pushing her hair behind her ear as she nervously peers up at you from across the table. The corner of your lip turns up as you look at her, and hers does the same. You know that all eyes are on you now, though, so you try to seem as casual as possible.Â
âYou need a drink?â you ask, letting your eyes meet hers, almost sparkling in the bar lighting. So fucking pretty, fuck. You are so, so fucked. Â
She shrugs and nods, looking around at what everyone else is drinking as she bites her lips. âHow about a Titoâs and Sprite, two limes?â she asks, almost as if nervous to say it.
You nod your head once, silently commending her for not ordering a fucking cranberry vodka.Â
âGot it, anyone else?â you ask, looking at the group as they shake their heads.Â
âIâll be back,â you say, standing from the booth and making your way back to the bar you just came from. You donât have to wait long this time, ordering her drink and making sure they donât skip on the limes. Youâre kind of glad you are the one getting her drink, giving you another minute or two to shake the nerves in your system that arose just from seeing her.Â
You glance over your shoulder towards the booth, watching as she talks animatedly with everyone at the table. You feel a little twinge of happiness as you look at her, seeing her fit in so effortlessly with the group. You grab the glass off the bartop and start to make your way back over to them, weaving through a thick crowd of people congregating in the middle of the bar.Â
You place her drink in front of her before taking your seat again, her cheeks blushed pink as she looks at you. âJust let me know how much and I can venmo whoever.â
âOh, no, donât worry about it. I got it,â you answer, giving her a tight lipped smile.Â
âI was just telling Y/N that Iâm gonna have to fire Mia and hire her to start making me drinks from now on. Your wine glass was practically overflowing all night,â he laughs as Mia scoffs. He tosses his arm around her, kissing her cheek as he whispers in her ear.Â
âTo be fair, I did drink it all,â you offer, tipping your head towards her. Her cheeks are red, and you can tell sheâs a little embarrassed about the whole thing. She sips at her drink, swallowing down the bubbly alcohol. You can see her tension ease a little as she puts down the glass, her eyes meeting yours again. The moment is quickly zapped as Josh grabs her attention.Â
âYou know, I did happen to look over and see you a few times. Seemed like you were enjoying the show,â Josh pauses, smiling at her, âThought I was going to have to come pick your jaw up off the ground after The Archer.â
Her face blushes a deep red now, clearly embarrassed that Josh caught her in what she thought was a private moment. Part of you wants to jump over the table and choke him, but you donât, just clearing your throat instead to warn him. Y/N sips her drink a little faster now through a laugh, clearly needing it to kick in a little quicker.Â
She was really watching you?Â
âYeah, you were kinda on one tonight, werenât you Jake?â Daniel adds, chewing the end of the straw in his drink. âThey were crazy over on your side. You were givinâ it to âem.â
âSâthat why you were showing out tonight? Trying to impress all your little fans?â Sam adds, quirking an eyebrow at you.Â
Josh scoffs a laugh and raises his eyebrows, looking over to Y/N, âOh, Iâm thinking it was someone else entirely, Sammy boy.â
Instinctively your foot connects with his leg as you kick him in an effort to shut him up. Your eyes flick over to Y/N, clearly uncomfortable and deeply embarrassed, on her first night no less. Her eyes start to flick around the table as everyone looks at her, before falling down to the table as she runs her finger around the rim of her glass.Â
âDonât listen to them, Y/N,â Mia jumps in. âThey spend 50% of their time bagging on each other and the other 50% trying to embarrass us.â Her act of heroism obviously makes Y/N feel a little more comfortable, and you realize that sometimes you and your brothers truly have no filters at all. âJust tell them to fuck off.â She adds a wave of her hand through the air, showing that she was used to it, now.Â
âOh shit, heard about your little situation at the bar last night, Y/N. Heard there was some trouble,â Sam says, leaning into the table as the volume of the crowd starts to drown him out. âGlad Jake was able to come to your rescue.â God damnit, do they ever shut up?
âOh yeah, Y/N you can always call Dean and tell him where youâre going so you donât have to deal with Jake if you need something. Iâm sure Dean is a lot more pleasant than Jake is at midnight, anyway,â Josh barks, sending another shooting wave of annoyance through your chest. Little did he know that you were perfectly fucking pleasant with her at midnight last night. More than pleasant, actually.Â
âIâll remember that next time, Josh,â she replies, a little sound of defeat in her voice.
You know what Joshâs next move is going to be, heâs going to start prying her with questions of what exactly happened. He knows you gave him the condensed version, and knowing him, heâs bound and determined to get the truth out of one of you. So you decide to stop him before he starts.Â
âYeah, it wasnât a big deal, I had just downed a drink before she texted, I hardly remember telling the guy to fuck off. We can just pretend the whole thing never even happened, right Y/N?â you propose, immediately regretting the words as soon as they slipped from your mouth. You didnât want to pretend it never happened. Youâve relived it over and over and over since it didâŠ
Her face falls a bit as she nods her head. âYeah, no. Never even happened. IâllâŠremember not to bother you next time. Knee-jerk reaction.â Her voice is a bit pointed as she tries to defend herself without being too bitchy about it. You watch as she bites the insides of her cheeks, probably wanting to lash out at all of you. She felt threatened by that guy, and she called for help. You feel like shit, she texted you because she was panicked, and was most familiar with you⊠hell, youâd just spent an entire day on the plane together. She probably doesnât even have Deanâs number yetâŠshit. Your choice of words had bitten you in the ass yet again. Youâve definitely fucked up.Â
But the guys absolutely can not know that you kissed herâŠ
The conversation thankfully takes a turn and youâre able to disassociate from it for a minute, watching as she struggles to stay involved, while also completely avoiding eye contact with you. Yeah, definitely fucked up.Â
She finishes the rest of her drink and slides out from the booth, excusing herself to the restroom. She flips her hair behind her shoulder and tosses her purse over it too, and you find yourself wishing that you could reach out and grab her hand to stop her. Her eyes stay fixed to the floor as she flits away into the crowd, completely disappearing from your view.Â
The minutes pass by as you flow in and out of the conversations, your subconscious reminding you every so often that she isnât back yet. Your eyes repeatedly scan the crowd and over to Paul and Wes, and each time you find them still seated alone at the bar. Where did she really go?Â
You start to get anxious as you finally decide to say fuck it. You pull the tiny pointless straw from your drink, biting it between your teeth as you pull your phone from your pocket, bringing up her text thread.Â
You
12:29AM: Where did you go?
You chomp the straw nervously as you move it around in your mouth, feeling it poking and prodding against your gums. You watch your message turn to read, but no reply bubble pops up. Youâre facing the door, and you havenât seen a soul pass through it, so you know she hadnât snuck out. Seven entire more minutes go by, and you realize sheâs not going to respond. You need to make this right. You need to tell her last night meant more than nothing to you.Â
Suddenly you get the brazen idea to go ahead and add another song to the playlist, thinking that maybe since it worked last nightâŠ
You pull up your music app and hit the search box, already knowing exactly what song you are going to add. âGo Outsideâ by The Cults. Perfect. Straight and to the point.Â
Josh continues to finish out a story youâd already heard twice today as your knee begins to bounce up and down with anticipation. Sure enough, a few minutes later, you get the notification that she, too, has added another song. Yes. Fucking finally. Â
âGoneâ by JR JR magically appears at the bottom of the playlist, and you canât stop the confused scowl that crosses your face. What the fuck? Thereâs no way sheâs gone⊠Youâve been watching the doorâŠ
You decide to cut the shit, and text her. If anything, youâll apologize for how everything had gone, and let her continue on with her night. You couldnât go another second without letting her know how sorry you were that things had gone so awry. You pull up your text thread, seeing the urgent messages from last night still present on your screen.Â
You
12:42AM: I know youâre not gone, Iâm facing the door. Meet me out back, please?
You donât even stick around to wait for her reply as you lock your phone and slam it onto the table, standing from your seat to hurriedly head out to the back patio area. âIâll be back, going for a smoke,â you announce, and thankfully, no one says they want to join you.Â
You make your way to the back door, pushing through the heavy metal and into the enclosed seating area. The cold breeze almost takes your breath away. You find that it is fairly big, but thankfully completely empty. The concrete slab is lined with old picnic tables and rickety bar stools that look like theyâve seen better days. You take a seat on top of one of the tables, sliding a blunt out of your front pocket and lighting it to life, letting the smoke fill your lungs and hopefully give you the courage to speak your mind freely.Â
Come on, Y/N, donât let me downâŠ
â
You look up from the cherried tip of the blunt, hearing a pair of boots making their way across the concrete. You look at her as she makes her way towards you, the wind blowing her hair across her face. The sleeves on her shirt are surely not thick enough to brave the cold air, and you find yourself smiling as you remember finding her in the same predicament on the plane. You blow out a ribbon of smoke from your lips just as she steps up to you, her face a little sullen and her cheeks still flushed. You didnât know if she was going to come. You hoped she would, and now that she has, itâs time to fix things.Â
She crosses her arms across her chest, her hands rubbing her arms to ward off the cold. You place the blunt between your lips as you slide your corduroy over your arms and toss it around her. She doesnât fight you this time, she accepts it, sticking her arms through the sleeves and pulling it tightly across her chest. Your heart beats a little faster seeing her wrapped in it as you pinch the blunt between your fingers.Â
âSo you didnât leave after allâŠâ you say, turning to look at her. She doesnât really answer you, just looks down at the glowing blunt in your hand. You can tell she wants to say something, but sheâs not letting herself, and you want to know why.Â
âWhy did you say that you did?â you ask, flicking the ash with your thumb.Â
She bites her lip as she turns out to look out into the distance. She takes in a deep breath and lets it out, turning back to look at you. âBecause I was embarrassed. Those people in there? They are my bosses. You are my boss. Now, their first real impression of me is that Iâm some helpless idiot that needs a man to rescue her. That I am some dim-witted awestruck groupie or something. I justâ This is not the first impression I wanted to make, not with them, and definitely not with you.â
You immediately stop her, knowing that her fears are completely unwarranted. âNo, no. None of that is true. None of us think that. I swear. They are just picking on you because they actually do like you. You heard Mia. You would know if they didnât. I promise. You were amazing today, truly. You made a great first impression with them. And with me,â you offer, hoping it will ease her anxiety.Â
She nods a little, giving you a shy smile as you nod back at her hoping to bring her out of her shell a bit. âDid you like the show, at least? Ignore what Josh said, heâs an idiot.â
âYeah, yeah I did. Jake, youâŠâ she pauses, shaking her head to try and articulate her thought, âYou were like a completely different person up there, Iââ
You swallow nervously, licking your lips, âYeah that, kinda happens. I donât know why or how, but something changes when Iâm out there with my guitar. But, I promise itâs still normal me under all of it,â you respond, nudging her arm with your elbow, trying to get a smile out of her.Â
She smiles enough that you let it go, but you can tell that sheâs still shaken from earlier, and you know itâs time to make your amends. âThe stuff inside with the guysâŠThatâs not whatâs bothering you, is itâŠâ you pause, meeting her eyes, âItâs what I said.â
She nods a little, shrugging her shoulders as if sheâs nervous to admit it, and you feel a shock of guilt run through you. You blow out a stream of smoke into the air above you, reaching your hand out to softly touch her arm as she sits on the stool in front of you.Â
âItâs not true, what I said. Iâ didnât mean that,â you confess, your voice a little lower and more sincere.Â
Her eyes flick up to yours, âWhich thing? That it wasnât a big deal or that you want to pretend it never happened?âÂ
Fuck, you did say that earlier. You lean a little closer to her, letting your hand slide beneath her elbow and over her arm again, âBoth. I actually havenât stopped thinking about it. About youâŠabout theseâŠâ you answer, bringing your hand up to cup her cheek, letting your thumb swipe over her bottom lip. âNot for a single second.â
Her lips are soft, a little wet. You can smell the vodka on her breath and goddamn if that doesnât make you want her more for some reason. You want to taste her, but you need to devour her.Â
A smile crosses her lips, as she moves closer to you, âI was kinda wondering if you were going to make good on that text, or if it was just for show.â
You huff a laugh as you flick at the blunt again, âWell, as you saw, I do enjoy the show, but I keep my word. I meant what I said last night.â
Your eyes are dark and demanding as they look into hers. You feel her hand meet yours, plucking the blunt from your fingers and placing the tip between her pink lips, âSo did I.â
She takes a long drag from the blunt, holding her breath and letting the tobacco and earth flavored smoke swirl through her lungs. She places it back in your mouth, blowing the stream of smoke over her shoulder as she leans onto the table with challenging eyes. You feel her fingertips barely tap on your lips as you take the blunt back, and the icy contact sets off an alarm in your mind to get her somewhere warm.Â
You hit the blunt one last time before dabbing it out on the tabletop, flicking the burnt-out paper to somewhere unknown. You stand quickly from the table, gripping her hand in yours as you pull her from the barstool. âCâmon,â you murmur, feeling the blood begin to rush through your body with anticipation. You begin leading her over to a door on the corner of the patio, again looking to see if anyone was around.Â
âWhere are we going?â she breathes. You squeeze her hand, realizing that youâd already intertwined her fingers with yours, just as you had last night on the walk back to the hotel.Â
You pull the door open, letting the outside light barely illuminate the small bathroom. You do a quick check to make sure it isnât trashed or occupied, and you pull her inside, shutting the door behind you. The small room is completely dark, devoid of any and all light at all, except for the tiniest sliver of ambient light coming from under the door. You stand with your hands still wrapped up in hers, and what felt like only inches away judging from the feeling of her breath hitting your lips.
âWanna make good on my wordâŠâ you breathe, the sound of your heart racing in your ears.Â
â...In a bathroom, Jake? She giggles anxiously, but you know she doesnât really mean it.Â
You let your hand follow the sound of her words, cupping her jaw again as you bring her into closer proximity. Your thumb brushes her lips again, and you can feel it trembling just a little. Or, maybe it's your hand shakingâŠthe nerves rising up have you feeling light headed. There has never been another woman that makes you react like this. Ever.Â
âDid you have somewhere else in mind?â you ask, bringing your lip between your teeth as you hear her breath catch, and feel her head shake side to side.Â
You feel her tiptoe just a little bit, bringing her forehead to balance on yours. Your noses graze just barely, and her chest rests across yours, heaving steadily along with each breath the both of you take. Donât fuck this up, JakeâŠÂ
âNo, this is perfect,â she whispers, her lips finally making the smallest contact with yours. You feel all of your nerves at attention, every hair on your body standing on end with anticipation for touching her; feeling just the bare minimum of her body was already sending your nervous system into overdrive. Your fingertips tighten on her cheek as you finally close the gap, feeling her plush lips pressing into yours for the second time in twenty four hours. Sheâs soft and inviting, the feeling of her just the same as it was last night, except now without the element of forced surprise. She feels natural and normal, like youâre meeting her again for the first time after a lifetime spent apart.Â
Itâs like a dream, except the dream quickly turns into the most devious nightmare as she turns up the heat of the kiss. Her tongue presses gently into your mouth, and youâre allowed your first taste of her. Sweet and sour- her natural essence mixed with the limes that were in her drink⊠the smell of her perfume, the inability to see her face⊠it was all making your head spin and your vision blur.
The kiss is heated already, like she had been wanting it just as badly as you had. Your mouths crash onto one another's, her hands quickly finding your shoulder and waist as the smallest sound escapes her throat. She pulls you in toward her, her knee slipping in between your legs. Fuck, she feels good. You grasp her up in your arms, pulling her in more tightly as you begin pushing her backward toward the wall. You feel her gently bump into it, and you take the opportunity to move things in a bit more.Â
Swiftly, but with the utmost caution, you press her body into the wall, letting your lips trail just a little further from her mouth, down onto her jawline. âThis okay?â you mutter, your lips now brushing right below her ear. You feel her body react, her muscles tensing up from your words.Â
You feel her head nod, âYeah, yes. Itâs⊠Keepââ
Her words stop short as you embrace her again, finding the kiss to have deepened even more since she gave you the go-ahead. Her hands slip up underneath your shirt, and you can feel the light scratch of her nails across your stomach. You swear you could come undone right then and there, but you hold back, taking a deep breath through your nose as you try to regain your composure. Hardly anything has even happened, and youâre already contemplating how you were going to best satisfy her tonight.Â
Your hands are begging to feel her skin, so you let them⊠your calloused fingertips creeping up under her tight black shirt just as hers had just done, her waist thick with soft muscle under the grip of your hands. You squeeze, committing the feeling of her in your grasp to the darkest parts of your memory. Fuck, you wish you could see her.Â
You part, stepping back just as you grip both of her hips in your hands, jerking her harshly into you. âWhy did you say you left when you didnât?â you ask, trying like hell to catch your breath.Â
âI was leavingâŠâ she mumbles, pressing her center right back onto you. God, fuck. âI got a phone call.âÂ
âFrom who?â you bite, your teeth clenched as you stop your eyes from rolling back in your head from the feel of her pressed against you.
âA friend.â
You huff an exasperated breath. âA friend who?â
She bucks her hips forward again, and the movement sends a surge of blood flow straight to your dick; you know for a fact she can tell how hard you are, now. âDo you really want me to answer that, or do you want to keep kissing me?â
You growl with aggravation, gripping her shoulders and pulling her away from the wall, up against the bathroom sink. You press your lips to hers again as her hands grip into your hair, pulling at the strands as you fight each other for dominance over the kiss. You can feel her fingers entangling themselves at the back of your neck as she pulls you in, unable to get you close enough.Â
She breaks away for a second, and you feel immediate sadness at the loss of contact. âTo answer your first question, I said I left because... I wanted to see if you would follow me.â
âI would have,â you answer with no hesitation whatsoever.
âWhy?â
You click your tongue, knowing that you arenât in a position to go into detail about your unexpected, but not unwanted feelings for her. âI canât answer that question at the moment, but when I can, Iâll let you know,â you explain, earning yourself a pissed-off laugh from her.Â
âDonât scoff at me, little fledgling,â you tease, running your tongue up the side of her neck. She chills under your touch, playfully pushing your shoulders back.Â
You reach down, gripping the backs of her thighs as you lift her onto the marble countertop, pushing her knees apart to find your place between them again. You gently jerk her forward, letting her center meet up with yours at the most perfect height. The sound that escapes her is nothing short of the most beautiful sound youâd ever heard, and you part your lips, drinking her noises in and swallowing them down to live within you for as long as sheâd let them.Â
You press yourself into her harder now, rolling your hips a bit as you start to lose all composure. Fuck, whenever this does finally happen, itâs gonna be good⊠Your hands are traveling all over her body thatâs still covered in your heavy corduroy jacket, and you can feel the heat radiating from your bodies and warming up the otherwise chilled room. You want to feel her, you want to reach down and feel your clothed bodies touching one another, but you stop yourself. Instead, you grip your hands into her thighs, moving them higher and higher until theyâre rested at the crease where her legs meet her ass. You want so much to keep going, keep wrapping your hands and digging your fingertips and exploring all that you could, but again, you slow your movements.Â
You gingerly stop your grip, instead trailing your hands lightly from her hips, up her sides and shoulders, back up to cup both of her cheeks in your hands, slowing the intense make-out into a soft subtle kiss.Â
âWhatâs wrong, Jake? Whyââ
âNot here. Not like thisâŠâ you answer, and if you could see her, you swear you would have seen the same look of defeat as youâd seen earlier. Except this time, for a better reason than the first. You back away a little, feeling her body language fall.Â
âYouâre right, youâre right,â she agrees, hopping down from the sink. âThis⊠isnât the best setup.â
You adjust yourself in your jeans as you laugh, âOh, itâs the perfect setup. I just⊠ya knowâŠâ
âPeople are probably wondering how you made a smoke last this long,â she whispers.
You laugh again, taking her in a sincere embrace, letting her face bury into your chest. âYeah, exactly.â You sway a couple of seconds as the both of you come down from the heavy session, and you can still feel her heart beating erratically as she presses against you. You lurch down and take her chin between your fingers, bringing your lips to hers in a soft and sweet kiss.Â
âBeen thinking about doing that every single second since last night,â you admit quietly.
She laughs shyly. âCanât believe I just made out with my bossâŠâ
âHey, cut that boss shit. Paul is your boss. Iâm yourâŠâ
â...MmmmmyyyâŠ.â
âIâm the one that hired your boss. Get it straight,â you pick, feigning cockiness.Â
âOh pleaseâŠâ she laughs, pushing you hard against the wall in the still blacked-out room.
âLetâs get out of here,â you say as you move toward the door to make your grand escape, with all intentions to go ahead and make the trek back to the hotel by yourselves. The two of you step out of the bathroom and back onto the patio, fixing your tousled hair and unkempt clothes. As you round the corner, youâre stopped dead in your tracks as you meet eyes with the last person you wanted to see out here.Â
Josh is leaned against the same picnic table that youâd extinguished your blunt on, legs crossed at the ankle as he hugs his arms on his chest. The smug fucking smile on his face was enough to turn your raging libido into straight nausea. He holds your phone into the air, shaking it side to side as the screen lights up.Â
âYou left this on the table, itâs been blowing up. Thought you might wanna answer it after theâŠthird consecutive call, but now I see that you were otherwise occupiedâŠâ he snaps, his tone anything but playful. You snatch it from his hand, glancing at the screen to see a string of missed calls and texts, but most notably of them all is a text from Y/N telling you she was on her away to meet you outside. Shit. Your eyes flick to Joshâs, and you can read his expression like a book. He raises his eyebrows as he bites a smile, as if heâs saying âcaught yaâ.
You feel Y/N still standing behind you, most likely also unable to move from her stance. You watch as Josh nods to her, then brings his fingers to his mouth, motioning that heâs locking his lips, and throwing away the key. He turns and slowly walks back inside the bar, not uttering another word.
You feel her hand on your back, âWhy did he do that?â she asks, a crease between her brows.Â
Goddammit Josh.Â
âI donât know,â you snap, your voice a little harsher than you intended. It's a lie though, you know exactly why he did it.Â
You turn around to face her, running your hands up and down over her arms to warm her up, âI donât know whatâs up with him tonight, maybe you should spare yourself. Head back earlyâŠâ
She seems a little taken aback at your suggestion, stepping back a few steps. âOh, um, yeah youâre right, I shouldâ I should probably go. I have some... stuff I need to do anyway.â
You can feel the nervous energy flowing from her body as her legs continue to move backwards. You donât want her to leave, but you see no way around it now.
âBe safe, call if you need us,â you say, shoving your hands in your pockets.Â
She hesitates before turning away completely, almost as if she was waiting to see if you were planning to join her. You want to. You want to take her back to her room and finish what you started, but you canât. You know Josh is waiting for you, counting each second until you step through that door.Â
She stops, turning back to you, âOh, your jacketâŠâ
âKeep it. Iâll get it later,â you say, lifting your hand and waving.
Her eyes meet yours again as she nods, a hint of sadness beneath them. Fuck fuck fuck.
You watch her walk back inside, disappearing through the door. You wait a minute or two before you make your way back inside, seeing Josh sitting in the booth alone. You mumble a curse under your breath as you slide into the booth across from him, drinking the water of the melted ice from your abandoned drink.Â
Josh is staring at you as he sips his drink, his eyes drifting over towards the bar where Ty and the rest of the group have gathered. He looks back to you as he sets his drink on the table and folds his hands together.Â
âSo yeah, howâs that break going, Jacob? Pretty good it seems?â he pauses, shaking his head, âYou really are getting your head straight or whatever the fuck it is you told her.â
You toss your head back in annoyance. This fucker thinks he knows everything.Â
âListen to me,â you demand, your voice growing deep. âYou need to stay the fuck out of it. Iâm dealing with it. Do you hear me?â
He blows you off, scoffing under his breath.Â
âDo you hear me, Josh,â you growl.
He drags his eyes back to yours, dark and piercing, âYeah, Jacob. I hear you. But answer me this, when was the last time you spoke to her?â
It feels like a punch in the gut as you answer, âNone of your fucking business.â
âNo, no, see it is kind of my business, seeing as how youâve beenââ
âNo, you know what, Iâm not doing this. Iâm leaving, Iâll see you in the morning,â you spit, standing from the booth and grabbing your things.Â
âDonât be that guy, Jake.â
You suck your teeth and nod at him with a fake smile as you turn to head toward the door.Â
Fucking prick, thinks he gets to call the shots in everyones life. Fuck him.
The walk to the hotel is short, the cold air cutting through you like a knife, but youâre glad she has your jacket. You know that when you get it back it will smell like her, and that alone makes this icy wind worth it.Â
Your mind drifts as you walk, your brain replaying the image of her in the bathroom. The way her lips felt, the way she tasted. The feeling of her skin in your hands. You have half a mind to run straight to her, pick up where you left off, but after the look on her face you arenât sure you can.Â
Your phone starts to buzz in your pocket as you draw closer to the hotel, a persistent buzz indicating a phone call, not a text. You pull it from your pocket seeing the name on the Caller ID for what has to be the fourth time tonight. You curse as you slide your finger across the screen answering the call.Â
âHello...â
âHey baby, I didnât think you were gonna pick up!â her familiar voice says.Â
âWonder what could have possibly given you that idea,â you gripe in response.Â
âSorry, Iâm just missing you. Havenât heard from youâŠâ she whines.Â
âYes, Isla. That is exactly the point of a break. To not hear from me,â you snap.Â
âBut Jake, I thought youâd at least tell me you made it. Iâve been worried and you turned off your location and everything, I just miss you,â she continues, her voice suddenly grating on your nerves.Â
âIsla, ChristâŠWhat are you not getting?â
âDo you not miss me?â she asks, fishing for a reciprocated sentiment.Â
Your phone buzzes in your hand as you start to answer, pulling it away just enough to see the notification banner at the top.Â
âY/N Added A Song to Your Shared Playlist: đ„â
Your heart lurches in your chest when you read it, and whatever Isla is saying turns into a hum of noise.
âJake? Are you listening to me?â she asks, her tone annoyed.Â
âWhat? Yeah, I hear you. Look I uh, itâs late here. I just got back to the hotel. Iâll call you soon, okay?â you ask, trying to calm her enough to get off the phone.
âI know weâre on a break, Jake, but you know I still love you.âÂ
âYeah, yeah I know, hey Iâm getting on the elevator, Iâm about to lose you. Iâll talk to you soon, okay?â
You hear her sigh, âOkay, bye babe.â
âBye,â you say, hitting the red button and ending the call.Â
âFuck me, FUCK me!â you shout, the elevator doors closing in front of you. You hit the nine button letting it carry you up to your floor. This has got to stop.
You immediately open the notification from Y/N, waiting for the playlist to load. You watch as the songs start to populate one by one, the last and most recent one finally loading as you step out of the elevator on your floor. Your heart drops as you read the name of the song you know all too well. âHigh and Dryâ by Radiohead.Â
Fucking hell. How many times are you going to screw it up with this girl?Â
You press play, letting the somber and melancholy tune play through the speakers as you fumble around for your hotel room key. The lyrics swirl through your ears as you realize that you did exactly what the song says. You left her high and dry in order to cover your own ass. Youâve given her a hundred reasons to never speak to you again, and you wouldnât blame her if she did.
You make the walk down the hallway, spotting your room, but stopping short when your eyes land on her hotel room door just a few steps away. You know she is just behind that door, probably in bed, wondering what she did wrong. Fuck.Â
Your mind flashes back to last night, when you wanted to kiss her again, standing at that very door. But tonight, you did. You kissed her again and fuck if it wasnât even better than the first time. You had every intention of taking her back here tonight. Every single intention of doing whatever she asked of you. In the matter of twenty-four hours she had you completely wrapped around her finger. Youâd give her anything she wanted. You want her, badly, but you just canât seem to stop fucking it up. And now that Josh knows, you know that it will only be a matter of time before everyone knows.
You bite your lips together as you pull your room key from your pocket, looking at the shiny white plastic in your hand as your heart pounds in your chest. Your eyes flick to your door for just a moment then back to her door only a few measly steps away. The song ends as you look down at the phone in your hand.
Should you reply? Should you go to her? Should you let it be?
You know what you want to do, and you know what you should do.Â
