I have drafted 2 chapters for Cold Frame and 2 chapters for broking power. In a week.

And on top of that, I have also drafted 2 additional chapters in the “TFATWS but Bucky is paroled in a shock collar” fic I’ve been working on behind the scenes.

So, yes, I think this device is definitely helping the flow. Which means I can probably start working on a wider variety of fics at the same time, including a lot of those poor neglected ones on my WIP Masterlist that have been started but I’ve had no headway on in years.

I am beyond pleased.

Got one of those “this is basically just a keyboard with an LCD screen” devices and…have written 9K in the last few days, 2 of which were work days.

So. Hopefully this means I’ll be quiet a little longer so I can get a backlog of fic going and then suddenly be updating regularly again.

broking power | Chapter 11 | 5.7k

Summary:

The deal was this: back when Nagel had been working for the Power Broker, there had been some sort of friction in their working relationship. After Karli and the rest of the Flag Smashers had escaped Madripoor and Nagel had repeatedly failed to successfully produce more serum, the Power Broker had delivered Nagel a hearty slap on the wrist in the form of taking all funding for resources until he came up with a way to subdue Karli and the others. 

It had been a hell of a punishment for him. He’d considered himself beyond that kind of work and thought it was a waste of his genius talent. But even disinterested, he knew serum creation, and he knew what kind of effects it would have on the human body. So he’d made a drug capable of keeping up with the immense cellular regeneration of the toughest of the tough, enabling anyone to overpower them. He’d known it would require constant dosing to work. He’d figured the administration for that, too.

But as Sharon had revealed, that hadn’t been all he’d made, or even the focal point of his project. And as disinterested in the work as he’d been, Nagel had wanted to stay on the Power Broker’s good side to keep the money rolling in so he could continue doing what he considered to be the real fulfilling work. That, and the prideful bastard had still been determined to one up anyone in the field that had come before him. The field this time being the brainwashing of supersoldiers.

The consequences of the trade to Selby are more far reaching and lasting than anyone could have prepared for. When Bucky goes missing, the reality of that hits home hard. (Direct sequel to unjust means. Post-TFATWS.)

Notes: Well, it's been An Entire Year. Priorities were geared more towards financial security vs any kind of hobby for a very very long time. But! Still writing this, and I still intend to finish it.

Summary:

When Loki next awoke, it was with a slow easing towards consciousness. He thought he might have heard voices, but they were lulling sounds of varying cadences that he barely had the capacity for understanding. 

What he did know, even in his half-awakened state, was that despite the weighty pull of his exhaustion, the feeling of lingering pains and his absolute inability to fend for himself, he was safe. The air was warm, the ground beneath him was firm, and his broken body was steadily healing.

FINALLY, after a hectic year to end all hectic years, finished the rough draft for the next chapter of Cold Frame.

My new mantra for this year has been “work less, make more money.” And this last Friday when I started to slide and stress about money since I was behind on my car insurance payment, one of my customers who has a dog no one else in the county can handle walked into the groom room and handed me a $400 cash tip. So. No longer stressed about the car insurance payment.

I’ve still got some major ground to cover for a couple other bills, but I get three paychecks and a tax refund and my birthday is in February, so I am triple padded against financial mishaps for the month.

I should post the chapter within a couple of days.

Unfortunately, above problem still incredibly active. Starting my weekend now after a 12 hour shift yesterday capping a 10-11 hour per day week. (And these are shifts basically without breaks. I don’t take lunches.) Current issues requiring more money are car-related and the Lokitty, who has been in and out of the vet for 9 months for her bad eye, is going to need a second surgery, the estimate for which I’ll find out the 23rd.

But! I might post a snippet of a scene from the next chapter of Cold Frame today, bearing in mind I’m not done editing it so the official posted version may have some tweaks. I’m running all the errands today I can’t get to during my get up-work-get home-eat-sleep days, so we’ll see what time I actually get home.

Saturday I went on a hike in Carmel Valley, and on the way down the mountain on a narrow path heard the call from around the craggy rocks: “One dog!”

For a second I didn’t clue in to what this meant, then realized whoever was coming up was announcing the fact that they had a pet and then the number and type. I have never experienced this type of communication on the trails.

Then I looked down at my 4 dogs and 2 cats and thought, well, they’re probably not going to expect this response.

Finished the rough draft of the next chapter of Cold Frame and went on a few hikes this weekend. The kits have been getting left at home for the last few months because of the storms and the ensuing intense workweeks, so they’re a bit out of shape and in need of some cautionary refresher training before I go back to allowing them offleash. Bucky was incredibly excited once he realized where we were. (Steve was also there and content to walk for all of five minutes and spend the rest of the hike as a massive freeloader in the backpack.)

Now to cap off the weekend with playing some video games and seeing if I can get this dang chapter ready for posting!

Folks!! Last pet surgery of the year complete and paid for. About to start my consistent 4 10 hour day workweeks again, so will once again have 3 day weekends and thus time/energy to write fic rather than be a body that just works walks dogs works out eats and sleeps. I’ve watched all of five movies this year and one season of one show. It’s been a time. Going to be relearning what engaging in hobbies is in the next month. Yeesh.

The good news: did manage a fair amount of writing in Cold Frame!

The bad news: it was in a scene that took a life of its own before I realized it needed to be moved and further explored in the chapter taking place after this next Loki POV one, so. Ugh.

Another five days of 10 hours of work coming up now - the last I have scheduled until September. The Lokitty gets her vet appt/eye surgery estimate this coming Monday, but I do have Sunday-Tuesday off, so hopefully some actual progress on the immediately next chapter will happen then.

Waving tiredly from the “I worked so hard last month I made more than everyone including the president of the company” situation, with hopefully no need to do that again for the near future. I am back to the 10 hours 4 days a week for this week, and thus have a 3 day weekend. So, hopefully I can rustle up some fic. If I end up too braindead from exhaustion for the weekend that may not happen but, I will give it my all. I miss writing!
