Isn't it calling Ben a religious fanatic a bit too extreme? I do think he's at least a bit compromised with bringing some peace to the Galaxy? Considering his speech to Rey he did think by himself about bringing some degree of order and peace even if in the wrong way.
When I mention religious fanaticism, I’m referring to Adam Driver’s comments about how he plays the character:
Driver says that he sees Ren as more of a religious fanatic than a villain in the traditional sense. “When they think of their actions as morally justified,” Driver told us, “it makes them dangerous and unpredictable. There’s no level they won’t go to to accomplish what they’re after. I never thought of the character as an evil person.”
There’s also the imagery of him praying to the Vader helmet in his room, and his fervent, brainwashed-sounding comments - “The Supreme Leader is wise.” “The Supreme Leader senses it.” “It is your teachings that make me strong, Supreme Leader.” “I’ve given everything I have to you.” Snoke had been in his head since he was a child. I’ve always personally interpreted Ben as a bit brainwashed/fanatical in motivation, and I saw his killing Snoke as Ben striking at not only his abuser, but also his ‘all-powerful’ religious cult leader. Of course, this is just my interpretation.

Morally grey: A character who does too much bad to be a good person, but does too much good to be a bad person.
Sympathetic villain: A character who is a bad person, but whose backstory/character arc makes you feel sorry for or sympathetic towards them.
Anti-hero: A character who does bad things to achieve a good goal.
Anti-villain: A character who does bad things to achieve a goal that they believe to be good, but is actually messed up.
Just plain annoying: A character who does bad things to achieve a bad goal but has one throwaway line about a hard childhood that is expected to put them into one of the aforementioned categories when in reality it just makes them annoying

Goodbye Mother.
Another Ep.IX Reverse speculation - Funeral through force bond. As Shmi’s death was Anakin’s first true push towards darkness, it might be Ben’s decisive one towards the light.

Hey everyone! I just noticed an influx of new followers since the start of TLJ fever lol. Welcome!! And thanks for sticking around <3
I do post Star Wars here occasionally, but most of the time I’m more active on my SW dedicated side-blog. But sometimes I’ll reblog from there for archival reasons.
It’s nice to meet you all! MTFBWY

Or maybe the point is that, while Kylo was already too far gone, Luke’s momentary lapse in judgement due to fear and confusion was still uncalled for, still cruel, and still Luke failing Ben and exacerbating his fall to the dark side, because failure and how to move on from it is one of the major themes of the movie. Maybe that one, actually.
what TLJ probably meant: poor Kylo Ren look he had a reason to come into the Dark Side his own uncle tried to kill him :’((( it’s also all Luke’s fault, blame him, he gave up on Ben so easy!!
what I, an intelectual, learned form TLJ: if Luke “there is still good in you dad Vader” Skywalker takes one look at Ben Solo’s mind and thinks this one is irredeemable then well, shit, I absolutely believe him

One of the best highlights in the movie was seeing Daisy Ridley belt out incredibly aggressive battle cries.
