I had a dream where I said to someone “Too many teeth is better than not enough” which was a totally poetic way to summarise something I was dealing with at the time, which required me to set some boundaries. JP once said “Harmlessness does not equate to morality”, I think lots of women can relate to the need to ‘grow teeth’ and learn how to use them. The consequence of not doing this, is drowning in resentment. An experiment in texture, this turned into a cathartic piece about facing difficult emotions. “Growing Teeth” 2020. Here’s a throwback to me working on one of the most important paintings (to me) that I’ve ever done... one that taught me so much about myself and my art path. 💚👶🏼🔳 It really was a pivotal moment in my journey... I was painting it and listening to @davidvangough on the @darkartsociety and I suddenly realised what it was about. I had a full blown epiphany that floored me. This painting is about me and my brothers... it’s about not fulfilling one’s potential, it’s partly about emotional neglect and about staying too safe...of giving away your own power by not learning to take care and love yourself. It’s pretty big (1.4m/ 55 inches in length) and I’m finally gonna get the chance to show it in person at the Wild Horses gig June 12th.
