Daily Instrument — Daegeum
The daegeum is a transverse traditional korean flute, made from double groove bamboo. The double groove bamboo means that the daegeum is extremely thick, the thickest out of all bamboo instruments. Because of this, the daegeum requires great lung capacity to be played. It has 7 finger holes, one of which is closed by a membrane made of reed grass. The closed hole gives the daegeum a nasal-like timbre, called galdae cheong. The Daegeum is mainly played in court and in folk.
