Zeus, upholder of just laws,
Hear my prayer.
Dionysos, patron of the queer,
Hear my cry;
Protect us from those who
Carry hate in their hearts.
When the laws of man
Violate simple xenia and kinship
Give us strength.
Help us tear through the hate
Like lightning.
Guide us to justice and healing.
Protect us as we struggle.
Gods be with us, for we need
Your safety and strength
Now more than ever.
Today's SCOTUS decision on 303 v. Elenis is an extremely upsetting one. It's the latest attack on our community in a series of hateful laws and decisions. It sets us back by decades and essentially makes it possible to discriminate against members of the LGBTQIA community if our existence goes against one's "sincerely held beliefs." Stay strong, call your reps, protest, and stick together as a community. We'll make it through this.

Themis, Goddess of Divine Justice,
Athena Columbia, patron of the District,
May this be a good omen
May this be a message of the work you do
I pour out offerings in your names!

So, I've been seeing some discussion and I thought I would clarify my stance here.
Athena Columbia, as I (the shrine-keeper) understand her, is NOT a goddess of the land, NOR the goddess of the sovereignty of the land.
She's the personification of the Governmental System that is currently in place. The colonial government.
I call to her to get politicians to follow their own damn rules, for lawmakers to keep their oaths. I turn to her to ask for more just laws.
When I pray for the health of the land and the water and the return of their sovereignty and an end to colonialism and genocide, I pray the way I was taught by my indigenous elders.
I find both kinds of prayer helpful and necessary.

Text of prayer:
"O Themis, lady of law and custom of the divine!
Let your law stand against the grandest crime
against the gods, hubris itself, in defacing your name
with their mortal, miasmatic horrors!
Aid us who too rise up and, with Nikē and Tukhē in tow,
bring us out of struggle and strife!
May we always honor your name and fane
in the fame and honor you deserve,
and may those who take it in vain toil in vain,
wailing in sorrow as you hold them to account
for their crimes against man and god,
all of us the children of Zeus the Father of All!
How dare they profane your name,
how dare they profane the honor of their brethren,
how dare they continue in their hubris and crimes
against divinity, divine humanity, and nature divine!
Themis and all the gods,
support us who must work to end this,
and aid us in this our work!
Yours is good, divine order;
it is for us to know ourselves and our proper place in it.
Woe to the transgressors of their bounds;
you set their own tormentors upon them!
For too long has good order been transgressed by callous wickedness.
Help us, help us, o kindly-minded Themis!"

I think much of my work will be centered on Athena Columbia in a new aspect: Themis.
Courtesy of the administration who decided to use her name in a way antithetical to her essence.

We, the oppressed, will fight in the ways we can: Athena Columbia Nike, Lady Victory, shine upon us! We will oppose unjust laws, and promote equity: Athena Columbia Dike, Lady Justice, guide us! We will search for facts and oppose lies: Athena Columbia Aletheia, Lady Truth, show us the way! Pallas Athena Columbia, Protectress of the United States, Bright-eyed Goddess, Dread Maiden and Glorious Queen: Hold us to the promise of our ideals, Make us ever aspire to your righteousness, Keep us on the path towards equitable governance, And destroy those who would privilege only themselves.

Athena Columbia!
Our Lady of the District,
Protectoress of American Democracy,
Guard those who March in the streets!
Athena Aletheia!
Protect those who speak Truth to Power
Today and on all other days.
Athena Eleutheria!
Let those who call themselves our Leaders
Truly represent the needs of the people.
Athena Dike!
May those who would withhold Justice
Find themselves removed from Power.
Athena Nike!
We are rising! We will be heard!
And we will triumph!
Athena Columbia, MAY IT BE SO!

I made a BPAL order during Capitalism Weekend and as a result I gained an extra three imps:
IN NECESSARIIS UNITAS
"In essential things, unity." A perfume to strengthen our bonds to one another for support in trying times: sweet patchouli, oakmoss, red oud, guiac wood, mahogany, and honeyed vetiver.
IN DUBIIS LIBERTAS
"In doubtful things, liberty." A perfume that celebrates civil rights, true justice, and freedom from authoritarianism: golden amber, smoked vanilla, benzoin, and blue cypress.
IN OMNIBUS CARITAS
"In all things, love." A perfume of compassion, respect, and empathy for our fellow humans, and for the land itself and all the creatures that call it home: honey and mallow flower, sugar cane, white sandalwood, orris, and vanilla bean.
I am putting all three on my shrine to Athena Columbia, that she may bless them and infuse them with her energy.

Statue of Liberty Welcoming Immigrants, New York
“The New Colossus” is a sonnet that American poet Emma Lazarus (1849–1887) wrote in 1883 to raise money for the construction of a pedestal for the Statue of Liberty. In 1903, the poem was cast onto a bronze plaque and mounted inside the pedestal’s lower level.
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame, With conquering limbs astride from land to land; Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. “Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
~Emma Lazarus.

I see it more as Athena, but I hadn't considered Cybele. Interesting!
I don’t have time to actually dig into this right at the moment, but I’m pretty sure Marianne of France and Columbia/Lady Liberty of the United States are both actually aspects of Cybele as seen through the lenses of those countries’ particular brands of nationalism. I need to think about this more but they’re just… totally derived from the same stalactite, to maul a metaphor…
