Chengling mentions Yu Boya (real name: Bo Ya), who smashed his qin* after the death of Zhong Ziqi, his zhiyin. While sighing that there was no one left in this world who understands his music; what's the point in playing anymore?

The story of Yu Boya is the source of the phrase "zhiyin". In ancient China, qin playing is considered something cultured; Yu Boya was a famous musician and composer of his time, while his zhiyin, Zhong Ziqi was a mere woodcutter. His job is rough and fairly hard labour.

It speaks to the concept of people bridging differences, regardless of birth and connecting over their mutual interests. There are three main phrases used for that special someone who understands you.

知音 (zhiyin) - Someone who understands your music. It means that special someone who shares the same passions and interests as you.

知己 (zhiji) - Someone who understands you on a spiritual level. Zhiji is used to describe that special friend who just "understands" you. (wenzhou!)

知心 (zhixin) - Someone who understands your heart. It's the romantic version of zhiji. Someone whose heart speaks to your heart.

Zhiji isn't the romantic version; danmei adaptations use zhiji because it's platonic. It does not mean a romantic soulmate. The translation of soulmate is already romanticizing it (because we know what the drama is trying to say) :p

*Yu Boya plays the 7 stringed qin (the one LZ plays). It's sometimes called guqin in various translations, but it just means "ancient qin", basically qin from those times. If you're writing historical novels or fic, they would only call it qin. 😛

The settler attack began on Saturday evening on the village near Ramallah, Sayil Kanaan, the head of the village council told Al Jazeera. Kanaan estimated that 150 settlers attacked Barqa. He said that locals noticed masked settlers hiding in trees near a home under construction. The settlers began to throw stones, damaging a car as well as the windows of several homes. “The residents were in fear and then some were forced to go and defend their homes,” said Kanaan. “They threw stones at the settlers and the settlers injured at least five people in the head after throwing stones at them.”
