ㅤNo surprises, that a captain's duties and responsibilities included keeping tabs on the well-being of his subordinates, at a physical, mental, and emotional level. Even less surprising, perhaps, when it came to an ANBU captain - given the nature of the missions that were to be carried out more often than not; between infiltrating a criminal gang to live with them for a month or murdering children in cold-blood because their parents were enemies to the village, the job certainly was not for the faint of heart.

ㅤWhat might be surprising, on the other hand, was if said care and attentiveness were to be extended to people out of the team and out of the ANBU's business entirely - yet, in Itachi's case, it'd be surprising only to those who didn't know him at all. From a very young age, not only he'd been used to caring for a literal baby but, just as much, he'd always been a rather gentle and selfless child himself. If it was his dream, to one day achieve a world where there existed worldwide peace and union, then he must go and set the example himself.

ㅤTherefore, after a whole morning of hearing the poor man coughing almost non-stop, he knew there was something to be done for Hayate's sake. As much as Itachi could be terrifying in his perfectionism and very strict work ethics, and he was, especially for someone still so young, he wasn't above allowing himself a quick break for a greater purpose. Namely, after knocking on the door and with permission, he entered the office with a smile and a cup of steamy tea in hand.
