Can you explain the plot again?

Absolutely. 

We start our story off with Mother Monster; and she’s having babies. She births an entire population of people. These people all eventually fall into one of two clans during childhood, and you can tell which clan they belong to by the marks on their left wrist; Peace has a peace sign and Chaos has a star. As the names suggest, one group has influences in their subconscious that are calm and caring, while the other has more destructive inner thoughts. It’s not that they’re good or bad people based on what their influence is, it’s just that they have inherent traits that correlate with the clans they were belong to. These traits manifest in different ways for everyone. Think of it like puberty; it happens at different times and in different ways for different people.

So Mother Monster stays with her people, but pretty soon they start fighting. How could two totally polar opposites get along for long? She doesn’t want to be part of it, so she exiles herself and watches from afar. The two clans begin losing their real history, and begin acting like they were born from two different Mothers. The histories get mixed up, and legends and myths change as they’re passed down.

Pretty soon, the majority of both groups are warring with each other, and Mother Monster is still nowhere to be seen. That’s where we take up this story. There are people who don’t care about the blood feud, but there are those who live for it as well, and of course those who are scattered in between. Some wonder if these clans are something we’re born into or whether or not they’re molded by our lives, but nobody has a real answer. 

Everyone is out of high school, because I don’t want any underage characters in the roleplay. It just makes it more comfortable for everyone to be 18+. Not all canon storylines have to be part of your bios, but they should still resemble the character that you’re applying for. Make sure not to write your bio so that it relies on another player too much, even other characters from your fandom, because you don’t want to tie their hands and force them into anything.

This is my sample application,just so that you can see how I filled everything out and meshed my character with the AU world for this roleplay.

I will probably use Darren Criss, because I have a ton of self-made resources of him as Hedwig. // HATAI

✘PRONOUNS: She/Her -- but I'm hoping to guide her to a place where she understands that she is neither man or woman, and it's okay. Her pronouns aren’t going to change, but it’s important to know that she currently identifies as female and will later realize she is nonbinary. And while we’re on the topic of pronouns, because she was perfectly content with herself as Hansel and she happily identified as male back then, she will refer to her pre-op self with masculine pronouns. ✘CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY

Life had always been a little different than Hedwig expected; for starters, she started out life as a happy and healthy little boy named Hansel. He lived in a chaotic neighborhood to a couple that were drawn to both sides; his Mother was Peace and his Father was Chaos. It was the kind of place that felt like a prison to most, because escaping it was nearly impossible. Nobody had enough money to get out, and the wall in between it and the neighboring Peace neighborhood made it feel like a war zone. Nothing got better (or worse, surprisingly) when Hansel started to catch his Father's eye. When his Mother caught the innocent child being molested, the man was pushed out of the house so quickly that Hansel never understood what had happened. 

Music was the place he went to dream. Somewhere in between the rock and roll drum beats and the killer guitar solos, Hansel found peace. When he came of age and his mark appeared, things changed again. Hansel was now officially a member of the opposing clan, and that caused tension between the neighbors and his two-person family. He started wandering off, spending his time as close to the dangerous wall that separated "his family" from "his people." Where did he belong? This confusion began to really affect him, and his Mother shared a heartwarming story of love and soulmates as her way of cheering him up that Hansel ate up immediately. So when he met Luther, the handsome Peace soldier that patrolled the wall, he was wide-eyed and ready for love. They had what felt like a whirlwind romance, filled with sex and expensive fantasies. Hansel felt his first taste of power then, and it thrilled him to his core. This was his happily ever after, he was sure of it, so he happily agreed when Luther asked for his hand in marriage.

The only problem was that gay marriage wasn't legal yet. His Mother understood Luther's intention before he did, but when it was all explained, he agreed with stars in his eyes. If he had to leave a little bit of himself behind here in this chaotic world in order to move on to bigger and better things, so be it. He had never had a problem with who he was as a person, and had felt completely comfortable in his skin as the boy he had identified as before, but what was love if not sacrifice? Unfortunately, the sex change operation didn't go as planned, and just a few days after their wedding ceremony, Hansel (now Hedwig, having taken his Mother's identity with her permission -- she understood his struggle, as a Peace clan member trapped in a world of Chaos) found that the new hole between her legs had closed up and was beginning to heal. Everything went well for a while, but it only took a year for Luther to leave Hedwig for some Chaos twink. As it turned out, the soldier had been excited by the thought of having someone in his home that had been exposed to the Chaos clan, and Hedwig hadn't been ~naughty~ enough to keep his attention. The next day, marriage equality was legalized G.O.A.T-wide and suddenly, everything that had ever happened in Hedwig's life felt pointless.

Rejected, alone, and penniless, Hedwig decided to reinvent herself. She was no longer Hansel, and no longer Mrs. Luther Robinson, but that didn't mean that she couldn't be something great. She took control of her life and though she had to stoop to blowjobs, waitressing, cashiering, and babysitting, she still found time to enjoy herself. She found a group of people she could trust (relatively, anyway) and formed a band. Things were really starting to look up again.

And then she met Tommy Gnosis.

The two of them hit it off from the start, and not since Luther had Hedwig felt so utterly adored and loved. She thought back to the tale of soulmates and found herself completely taken by Tommy. He was a little nerdy, obsessed with Jesus, and didn't know a single thing about music, but his eagerness and willingness to learn only drew her in further. They had long, deep conversations and formed a relationship based on how they felt around each other, nothing physical. They turned their relationship into a business and began playing together, and the combination of their talent attracted enough attention to get them enough gigs to really live the high life. But when they finally did get to that point and they were ready to have sex, and Tommy withdrew instantly when he found out that Hedwig wasn't what he had thought she was. He stole all of her music and left, which would have been bad enough-- but then he took her work and turned it into an epic rock career for himself and left her name off of the album.

Furious, Hedwig has launched a concert tour that inauspiciously shadows that of Tommy Gnosis. He's booked at all of the big event centers and her main stages can be found at Bilgewater's; a seafood restaurant chain whose founder she blackmailed for the ability to perform at all of the establishments. In her own bitter way, she laughs at the fact that she fought so hard to get out of that Choas ghetto only to find herself in a similar situation. At heart, she truly is drawn to peace and she wants nothing more than to find her other half and figure out how to be happy for longer than five minutes. Still, most people are surprised to hear that she is not drawn to Chaos.

If you'd like to apply for a HATAI character and you would like to talk over headcanons or anything, just let me know. I'm not against adding more connections into this biography, but it might also be fun to explore introductions.

Do you have a FAQs page? I want to ask what your most wanted character is, but I don't want to ask if you've already answered that.

I have a tag for my previously answered questions, but I don’t have a specific FAQs page. As for your question, I don’t really have any preferences. My favorite part of admining a roleplay is watching the players that come through my roleplay have fun. I like seeing what you can all come up with and how your characters grow. Think about what will make you the happiest; that is what I want for you.

I have a quick question. Would anyone from the opposite clan be able to be persuaded to do something they normally wouldn't? Like peer pressure or something like that? Like.. a peace clan member doing drugs with someone from chaos clan, or is that not possible?

They're still "real" people. Anything is possible. The clans just mean that they're pulled in that direction. Just because someone is in the peace clan, doesn't mean that they're a completely innocent and peaceful person. It just means that naturally, they're drawn to peaceful thoughts and urged towards harmony. They can still make mistakes, and they can still do bad things. Their clan will just influence how they feel about the things that they do. I suppose it really depends on what drug they're thinking of doing and how it was presented to them. Something like marijuana is sort of... neutral ground.

Though chaos clan members would be more likely to do drugs and all that, just because they'd have fewer moral issues with it. But again, that's in a general sense. Not all personalities are created the same, so not all people are going to be drawn to their clans in the same way.

I thought about this question a lot before answering. I'd love to see diversity in the way people are drawn to their clans, and in what they do with their life. I'm picturing an image of a peace clan member that somehow feels as though they've failed at something (or perhaps they've done something wrong that clashes with their calling to peace), and they've turned to alcoholism or something like that in order to find relief from the disharmony formed from the fact that they feel as though they've been drawn away from their clan's urges. 

Ultimately, they're your characters though. If I see something that I don't agree with, I'll message you privately about it and we can talk it over just so that I can understand your reasoning better.

Is there a specific religion in this world? As in, is mother considered to be the ultimate and only entity or are there other branches of religion?

This is a great question. She’s the only religion. Each clan has their own versions though, and each clan thinks that the other clan is worshipping someone else. There are a few that don’t believe in her at all, but they’re the definite minority. There are different groups of worshippers too; like how there are 23849238423123897 different branches of Christianity.

Can you explain the clans? Not the clans specifically, but how each side is drawn to their namesake?

I like to think of it like a drug addiction. It's not something that is easy to live with, but it's also not something that is incapable of being controlled. Still, the desire to control it shouldn't be there for most people, and that's why so many people fall to their clans. That's why there's so much tension between the two.

Those aligned with chaos are more likely to show signs or symptoms of their clan, because those aligned with peace are just generally drawn to being good. They like helping people, and they like doing good. At the same time, there is more diversity involved. Just because they are from peace, does not mean that they have to be a good guy. It just means that they're drawn to order and whatever their own version of calm is. Those that are aligned with chaos aren't necessarily bad either. They're just inexorably pulled to destructive habits. Messy rooms. Failing grades in school. Difficulties keeping friends. They have less of an impulse control. 

I'd also like to point out that emotions will affect the things that they do. For instance, during a particularly adrenaline fueled moment, someone might slip and do something that they might not normally do. The level of control is why I compare it to drug addiction. Sometimes, everything is in easy to control and life can go on as normal. But other times, things get a little more difficult. Bad habits resurface.

On top of the habits that are obvious to everyone involved, there are also examples of the pull of the clans making people do things that they don't notice. Archer, for instance, has a habit of sabotaging conversations with other people without realizing it. Especially if it's someone he is just meeting for the first time. He'll be passive aggressive and slightly rude, but it's not something that he means to do, so he will still continue to chase the conversation. If it ends because of him, he won't know why. It's not something that he has any idea is happening. 

If you want more information on it, I suggest looking up drug addictions and how they affect a person's mental state and how they act. If you want more information on how to portray it within the rp, let me know. I'm more than willing to talk through it.

So where does this take place? Are they all in one city or school or?

This takes place on G.O.A.T., which is a Government Owned Alien Territory in space. So it's like Earth, but it's not Earth. This isn't a cardboard copy, twin school rp. All of the characters involved are in the same space. We'll call it a city for sanity's sake. They're all out of high school (like the application says). If you want your character to be in college, they can be in college, but you have to specify that in your bio and remember: this isn't a specifically college/school centered rp. 

The different things in the city are going to be made up as we go along. I set the ground work, but I want my players to really take part in helping me create this world.

Great concept! I just need to pick a character and I will be applying.

Well thank you, I'm glad so many people are interested. I thought it was a pretty neat concept, and I spent a long time thinking over the kinks of turning the monologue speech from the song into a viable roleplay plot line.  I love Gaga and I love Glee, it was just too good to pass up.

Can the characters be born into one category but truly believe they should be in another? like someone born in chaos but things that they should be in peace?

Of course. This is a normal, functioning society, and not everyone is going to be one hundred percent okay with how things work. The characters are drawn to the force they were born under, you could call it a subconscious influence, but that doesn't mean they can't strive to be different. I'm hoping we get a few people who use that concept, actually. Perhaps someone who is born into chaos, who through some other character sees a reason to be more than just a deviant. (That could be written in a bio, or even played out as a plotline in the roleplay itself.) Or someone born under peace, who goes through enough traumatic life events that they can't help but feel a little chaos. Think of the two influences as guidelines, an inner pull, but not everyone is going to follow them. Just remember that it's a strong, inner pull, so it's something they're going to have to struggle with. It won't be easy to defy the influences they were born under.

I have a lot of ideas, anonymous. I spend a lot of time thinking this over and how it would work, and there are a few things I fantasized about while I was writing up the plot and deciding how things would fit together. I'd like to give people a chance to come up with their own ideas, but if someone is curious about what I was thinking for the character they plan on auditioning for, come to me off anon and I'll talk through things with you. What if people don't want to write their own bios?

Simple; You ask really nicely and I'll talk over options, and I'll help you come up with ideas. I've got some possibilities anyway, and if this doesn't get off the group with players writing their own bios, I'm going to make premade ones and see if that boosts people's interest. 

But honest, babe, I'd love to see you guys show your creativity. I know you all have it, and I love seeing what you all come up with. It makes things so much more fun when everyone is playing a character that they created, you know? I'm here to help in whatever ways you need me to be, but I would really like if a good chunk of the creative juices used to create your character's bio came from you. It's one way you can really show me that you know your character.
