cloud cover

sometimes i still wonder if you hate love songs. i wonder if they all echo in your head, like the sound of my voice from your kitchen. i hear all our old songs and it comes rushing back. how many days should i keep waiting?

that was the hottest july in human history, but clouds close in on me this august day. the wind is hot and tired, like all those nights under your sheets. my house is cold and full of ghosts. i changed the rooms wildly since you last step foot in them.

talking to you is odd. making conversation with a stranger who knows everything about you. i wonder if you still look at the clouds like we used to. i wonder if you remember to stargaze every night. i wonder if you stay up till the sunrise, just to describe the view. i wonder if you're getting the love you need. i wonder if the moon still comforts you.

these cloudy days taste like rose petal ice cream and smell like your jacket. i wonder if you can sense it too.
