Akihito Leia is recognizable enough, even if they don’t share a homeroom. The blonde girl spent a lot of time around other students in Shōto’s class, Midoriya in particular. Apparently they knew each other in primary school, but he hadn’t exactly asked. Social interaction wasn’t exactly his forte.

Comparatively, though, Akihito was easy to handle. She was friendly, kind, patient. Not overly exuberant like Ashido or quiet like Kouda. She was willing to carry a conversation but not push. Seeing her interact with others, he wonders if this is a learned skill or a natural talent.

Either way, he doesn’t question her presence in the 1-A dormitory lounge; nor does he particularly mind it. He moves over, closer to the arm of the couch, giving her room to sit down if she chooses to. Grey eyes flit to examine green and blue. Heterochromia was at least one thing they shared, although the girl wouldn’t know it.

Without verbal acknowledgement but with a small, awkward, smile, Shōto turns his attention back to the textbook on his lap.

“I haven’t made much progress controlling my quirk,”  Shōto mumbles, more to himself than the other student. It was just as well, since it wasn’t a very good idea to discuss quirks with his classmates. It may lead to clues. Which may lead to discovery. Which will definitely lead to returning to that miserable house.

Still.

Something about Tooru doesn’t make him feel threatened. Not in the traditional sense. The invisible student sparks another feeling, one of competition. The urge to do better. There was a wide gap between their abilities; and, well, may as well admit it. He envied how easy it seemed to be for Tooru to interact with their classmates.

For some reason this feeling made it seem natural to share things he should probably keep to himself. “Maybe I need to change my approach,”

“...mom?” voice betraying the hour with the level of sleep weighing it down. It mirrors, in a lot of ways, a night so long ago that even the memory was faded to almost nothing. But the pitch has changed, deepened with years gone by, and it lacks the tremulousness of fear.

Shōto stirs slowly, lifting his head from where it rests on crossed arms on top of of the Kotatsu in their modest home. The click of the door waking him easily, as it was not far from where he sat; fell asleep waiting.

He blinks the sleep from his eyes to focus on the shadowy shape at the other end of the unlit abode. What time was it exactly? He wasn’t sure. A yawn and a stretch, his back giving a little pop from having been at an awkward angle.

“Welcome home.”
