ATEEZ are slowly drifting more and more towards dystopian anarchy and away from fantasy gothic pirates. And although the story is still the same and I do love my dystopian stuff…. Gothic pirates are just far superior.

My Polished Man campaign is still up and taking donations! Over the past two months, I received $31 in donations which I have doubled, as promised.
Polished Man and ygap give international aid to children and women experiencing violence, and with all the conflict in the world right now, Polished Man exists to remind people of the 1 child dying every minute in the world from violence.

ATEEZ’s concerts lately seem to be either ‘blockbuster musical’ or ‘strip club’ and I’m very nervous because I really, REALLY want to see them, but my ace self would actually combust if I had to watch the latter. I would die of second hand cringe.
In other news, the former seems to be portraying Seonghwa as a fallen angel… what’s the chance Joong wrote that part of the story? (Probably not that high, but he IS involved in the story).
Lol what if ATEEZ’s whole storyline is just a cover for Seongjoong? As in the group pretends Joong is kind of in charge of and knowledgeable about the story, then the story centres Hwa, so all the platonic soulmate shippers like myself (or even the hard romantic ones) go all giggly, but it was just a front and the producers the whole time…
…am I too invested and skeptical?

'Crazy Form' MV First Reactions Part 2
Part 2! Analysis below the line.
You remember Jongho shooting everywhere in the last part?
Tumblr media
Well, here is a funny Mingi picture from that scene. I can't tell if he's surrendering or going 'dude we were supposed to be undercover what are you doing?'
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HELLL YESSSS. THIS is what I mean by this MV being connected to Bouncy - the screen is literally the Guardian Hongjoong killed in Bouncy, and Jongho 'kills' it through destroying the TV - they're on a literally Guardian-killing rampage.
Tumblr media
Now, past media knowledge would tell us that this is a bomb of some kind. Especially since it starts glowing blue.
Tumblr media
And since our tech dude Wooyoung looks so satisfied. Also, we know that Hongjoong is self-destructive enough to just let himself get blown up.
Tumblr media
And although this shot tells us that it is a bomb of some kind, the next bit shows that it's not the type of bomb we would expect.
Tumblr media
It's a tech-bomb thing... bringing the pirate ship to the city - the pirates are taking over, whether you like it or not!
This is where I relate this MV to Don't Stop - because in that MV, we saw 1) Mingi with a car that gets destroyed, 2) members gambling to get something important 3) Seonghwa leading in Hongjoong's absence, 4) the pirate ship, 5) Hongjoong blowing things up and then reuniting with the members. This MV is basically the same things - but progressed. Mingi destroys the car himself and is unscathed, new members are gambling, Seonghwa is also crazy now (possibly influenced by Joong), the ship is now upright and working, not destroyed, and Hongjoong blows things up, but this time he doesn't hurt himself doing so, and instead creates a symbol of hope by working with the other members.
It's very nice.
Tumblr media
Also, full moon.
Tumblr media
This is so goofy but I love it.
And that's the end for the main MV - but it's ATEEZ - we've got to see the rest.
Tumblr media
Broken Cromer - red - we'll see why later.
If I can tell you one thing, it's that the Cromer being broken isn't good. The last time we saw the broken Cromer was in FEVER Part 3 era - is this supposed to be the same broken Cromer or an alternate-universe one, since THE WORLD and FEVER are quite likely different universes.
Tumblr media
We then have this shot - with the blood moon, the source of the red light. And also usually used as a sign that blood has been shed or will soon be shed. Since there was a lack of death in this MV, and ATEEZ always seem to finish their album series with an Epilogue, I imagine there will be blood spilled in the next album's MV, when they actually, fully, take over the government and fight the Guardians. Or die trying.
There's also a bluebird here - I've circled it in red since it's hard to see. Not only is this an ATEEZ song, but it's also a symbol of freedom and their struggle. I also associate it with Yeosang, since he had lines mentioning it in HALAZIA. Am I supposed to associate it with Yeosang? Goodness knows.
It also carries some flashing light thing... I'm unsure what's going on there. Possibly the Cromer or part of it? A new hope for the Cromer?
And that's it! A nice MV that carried on the stories from a myriad of MVs - Deja Vu, Don't Stop, Guerrilla, HALAZIA, and Bouncy. Wonderful. I do like a connected story.
So let's talk...
Lyrics
Well, first, I needed to look at the 'ninety-two-four' thing. I wasn't immediately sure what this meant. I hear '24' and think of ATEEZ's debut date, but that would be ten-two-four, not ninety. So I looked up the number and got some Japanese company that owns a lot of stuff. I mean, it's possible they were referencing that company, since they are a conglomerate, and that's something they are fighting against in the storyline, but I also had my doubts. Looking up the meaning of the specific number leads to Angel Numbers, and the meaning of the angle number 9024 discusses enthusiasm and taking action, working towards one's goals, despite challenges. It also signals how someone can do great things in their life.
Sound familiar? Yet again, ATEEZ are making random obscure references that have real meaning and relevance to their MVs - here they are taking action, and doing so enthusiastically, smiling in the face of challenges.
Or it could mean something else. If so, please enlighten me. But this is the best I can come up with - and, since it fits, it reinforces my ideas.
Then we have some classic ATEEZ things - putting their whole soul on the stage, being confident in themselves, and dancing their hearts out. Also - mentions of the moon. Ahem, Cromer, ahem.
Mingi does his typical shantyman stuff - singing about going full speed ahead. He also talks about stocks - something that some people (like me) could associate with drug dealing and corruption. And he contrasts the red light (the shocking taking over of the stock market) with his green flags - a sign to go straight ahead, and which also could (possibly... it's a stretch) be considered to have the dual meaning of ATEEZ being a green flag - they are fighting for freedom.
We get some more 'join us or don't we don't mind', classic fire imagery, and more dance and music. And asking their followers to sing along.
Also - 'raise your glass'. Ahem, Answer.
And changing the game - another common theme for ATEEZ.
So overall, as expected, it's a pretty typical ATEEZ song, lyric-wise. I feel like a lot of their songs, lyrically, are very similar - they're all reinforcing the fighting for freedom, dance, etc. It's the MVs, albums, and other visual media, as well as the bsides, which have been doing most of the storytelling recently. This isn't an issue, and in fact, it has been happening for a long time, but it is interesting. Perhaps it makes them more marketable to the general public? Because I can 100% say that 'being cool' is more appealing to the general audience member than 'I'm a pirate lord taking over the government and using anarchy as a face to do that, also I'm drug dealing chilli peppers and shooting weird fencing robots.' Yep.
Conclusions
Some of my favourite MVs are the ones which have tons of references or connections with others - things like Bouncy, Say My Name, Answer, Illusion, and more. I like the MVs that show that the Directors and creatives behind it have both an understanding of media in general, and have carefully considered every element of the MV. As a director myself, I can appreciate that. This MV has many a reference, and nicely ties together many other MVs, from the start of this era - starting with Don't Stop, which gave us a soft introduction to this world. Nice job yet again, ATEEZ creative team.

'Crazy Form' MV First Reactions
Another comeback, another ATEEZ win in the MV department.
This MV is a great continuation on from the story in the previous MVs - it has aspects from Don't Stop, Guerrilla, HALAZIA, and Bouncy. The MAMA performance showed the direct continuation from Bouncy, and I'll discuss Bouncy and other elements later on.
I liked it, of course, and, although the song still has some growing to do (and the crotch-grabbing and hip thrusting in the choreo needs to go), it's still, as expected, an overall win.
So let's discuss it.
Tumblr media
First, I love that the intro starts with a flag - a very ATEEZ thing. The last time I remember flags being this salient is in WONDERLAND - they were in HALAZIA, but they were more like prayer flags there, not these massive 'heralding-the-coming-of-the-king' flags.'
Tumblr media
So here we have the city they've been taking over - from Guerrilla, HALAZIA, and Bouncy - the moon (the Cromer takes power from the phases of the moon), ATEEZ flags (of course), and these weird industrial tent things that may or may not be covered in solar panels. The cool thing about the tents is 1) they become more interesting the longer you look at them, 2) they hide even more of ATEEZ's army, 3) they look pretty cool and make a nice, intimidating, symmetrical backdrop, and 4) they kind of look like stadium seating - showing how popular ATEEZ have become.
ATEEZ and their multi-meaning visual language coming back again. As expected.
Tumblr media
Of course, we start with our Captain, and, of course, he is wearing his Captain's mark.
Tumblr media
I think this move is super goofy and funny but it does do an interesting job of revealing San so I can't fault it too much.
Tumblr media
I hope I don't need to tell you that 1) there is some anarchy planning going on here, 2) we are in a futuristic world, and 3) they are back in the shed they do all their planning in.
Tumblr media
Also back in circular towers. Is this a prison? Is Yunho breaking out? It's possible... I mean, anything's possible with ATEEZ.
Tumblr media
It seems that their shed has had some significant upgrades. Probably coming from the revenue of drug dealing.
Tumblr media
Mingi what is the point of looking cool in your car if you then immediately crash said car?
Tumblr media
Mingi in bar scene? Check. Which means? He's up to no good.
Now this is really interesting story progression IMO. In Bouncy, we had Mingi in a dingy wild-west bar, murdering people. So here, we see him in a high-end bar, so we expect more murder. But instead, as we would expect with high-class things, he is...
Tumblr media
Buying Iron Man's heart? Okay probably not - it's probably some other random high-tech thing they need. But it's not only this that is interesting - it's the fact that in both MVs, Mingi drinks something weird - some chilli cocktail in the first one, and... strawberry milk??? in this one.
Possibly to further show how different ATEEZ are from the rest of the world?
Anyway, strawberry milk is superior to alcohol every day.
Tumblr media
Wooyoung's working on something.
Now, interestingly, if you remember back to my post on ATEEZ's positions on their pirate ship, Wooyoung's spot was undetermined. This scene (assuming the director chose this task and Wooyoung specifically, which we should assume) suggests to me that he is some sort of mechanic/dude with technical know-how. Other evidence that he has this, and in general, a supportive role, is how he is often seen backing San up (in general, and especially in Bouncy), and how in Guerrilla, he was involved in hijacking the media systems of the government.
We could perhaps say he is a fixer-upper-er? And I say it like this, because, if we go by the theory that Wooyoung knows Hongjoong is crazy, and is trying to stop him (I presume to fix the universe, save the world, etc), then, this role makes sense for him. He is literally trying to fix the universe and the group, and Hongjoong.
Food for thought.
Tumblr media
I love Yunho's reaction. Also, he too is working on something. So maybe it's the concept. Or, it could be related to his role as the Second Mate - whose role is to make sure the ship is going the way it needs to, and who thus, would also be involved in whatever he needs to be involved in to make sure they're going the right way.
Tumblr media
In 'Don't Stop' they sent out the unbeatable San-Wooyoung team to do the dangerous gambling, but in this MV they send their precious maknae? Rip Jongho. He does look very cool in this scene, though.
Tumblr media
Jongho shows an A card, and, since this guy has a Z card, I assume this is a subtle hint that he's been completely readable and completely under Jongho's control the whole time?
Tumblr media
Epic freeze-frame. That looks like Mingi's body and outfit on the right - or am I hallucinating?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seonghwa's stylists knocking it out of the park yet again. Anyway, he's rocking out. I don't have much to say about that - as the 1st mate, he is the face of the group when Hongjoong is behind the scenes. He was literally framed as THE spirit of ATEEZ and HALATEEZ in HALAZIA. Hence, he's basically their 'headliner' or 'frontman' - hence, he jams out in front of their followers. And punches us.
Tumblr media
Not entirely sure what's going on here - is he rising? Falling? Both? Neither? Eh.
Tumblr media
Skaterboy Hongjoong and graffiti artist Yeosang AU? :o
Don't ask me.
Tumblr media
So, you all know that I usually hate anything crotch-grabby or hip-thrusty - I'm a very, very, deeply ace person. But this is acceptable. Because this shot isn't sexual - this is a hilarious 'haha look how much better than you I am, I'm going to sit on you without a care in the world' kind of shot. It adds character and comedy to the MV, and emphasises how cool ATEEZ are. It also gets even better when you think about how the cameraman had to get down on the ground, and the director had to direct Wooyoung to shove his butt in the camera. They then had to do all the set-up it takes to take a shot (a surprising amount), do the whole 'and... action!' thing, and then take MULTIPLE takes of Wooyoung shoving his butt in the camera. Absolutely hilarious.
Tumblr media
I could have told you that. I love the reporter's face in the background. And how Hongjoong still has his Captain's mark. Of course.
Tumblr media
Well, buddy, that's what you get for breaking the law.
A lot of people pointed out how he looks actually insane when he's running here - he's got the blend of joy, adrenaline, insanity, and fear going well. And... well, yeah, he is insane. IRL, but ESPECIALLY in the storyline.
Tumblr media
He's so insane the police don't know what to do with him...
Tumblr media
Here is a cute puppy - a continuation of Hongjoong being associated with animals. I assume this is his dog, since it doesn't have a police dog uniform or anything.
Tumblr media
Another great reaction in this MV, and the usual ATEEZ posters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love the comic frames, but I'm not so sure what their point is other than to punctuate the song, add visual interest and spunk, and highlight how crazy and villainous Hongjoong is.
Which I guess is a purpose, but I mean STORYLINE purpose.
Perhaps that they are taking over the media? And of course that Hongjoong is crazy.
Tumblr media
The insanity's moving down the heirarchy... none of us are safe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Epic kpop transitions are back. And yes, that was Mingi in the background.
And that's it for this part. See you in the next one where I can share more cool images!

Hi all, analysis is coming, I’m just busy so it’s not today. But a few things to say:
- The MV isn’t my style, but it’s still super fun and is VERY Ateez style
- The song’s grown on me a bit but still has a lot of growing to do. I think it’s a lot more experimental than what they usually do. And although I love Shinee, Aespa, and NMIXX eexperimental, I don’t know how I feel about ATEEZ experimental yet…
- Seonghwa and Jongho really stood out to me in this one
- Tons of references and visual shorthand (as usual)
- I thought this was a great follow up to Don’t Stop, Guerrilla, HALAZIA and Bouncy
- Considering how many songs have been super short lately, and how this song has so many sections, it actually felt surprisingly long by comparison lol
The MV also hit 10M in about 7 hours which is great to see!

Well, although this year’s MAMA performance wasn’t my favourite one, I still enjoyed it. As expected, ATEEZ brought all their energy and spunk.
Hongjoong was spitting his whole soul into that mic like he’s going to die tonight.
I looked at San’s outfit and went ‘ahh he’s going to strip. Please don’t strip’
…. Enough said.
New song - eh. I have no doubt it will grow on me but it’s no Bouncy, Say My Name, or Answer, let’s just say that.

Was Mingi saying 'It's a cold winter' in their MAMA acceptance speech a teaser for the comeback? Has looking into ATEEZ theories and staring at Hongjoong's face made me crazy? Goodness knows...

Someone just donated $25 to my Polished Man page. https://polishedman.com/ateez-atiny-crew
I don't know if it was someone from this blog, Facebook, or somewhere else, but I am very thankful to them. This is a great cause and is a local charity for myself as an Australian. October may be over, but the campaign is still ongoing, raising funds for the prevention of violence against women and children.
The great thing about this is that, since I have pledged to double any donations I get to a certain amount, I doubled this person's donation. Even better than that, today is a double donation day. Which means that this person donated $25, which turned into, through the doubling of myself and GBF, $100!!!
Not to mention that their message made me feel very supported. I hope this person feels good about themselves for their good deed today, and if they see this I just want to say thank you.
If you would like to donate, I would encourage you to do so - every dollar counts, and every donation helps, no matter how small. For a short period, your donation could even be quadrupled, like this person :)

Happy Hongjoong Day!
It's that time of year again where I thank our Captain for his work as part of the creative team behind ATEEZ, and also for his general work in the group as a performer and leader. He has so many great ideas and I think he's solidified himself as one of the greatest characters in kpop, through his fashion, manner of carrying himself, and performance. So I will keep it short and just say that I look forward to what he does in the future, and that I still want to interrogate him about the storyline.
Tumblr media
I also want to bring back these TREASURE era Hongjoong pictures, and of course, remind everyone that there is a reason this is my profile picture - there is a reason this is my favourite Hongjoong picture ever - it's the uniqueness and creativity that went into characterising him and his hair in Episode 2. It was unique, it was stylish, it sent a message, it followed the concept of the storyline, it helped solidify and inspire both his individual style and the style of the group, and it contributed to the story of the comeback. Wondrous.

Have some cute little photos from a fellow Hongjoong biased blog! It's insane that it's already been 5 years, but I guess time flies when you're anxiously waiting for the next addition to the ATEEZ storyline, and when each of their comebacks are so fun they go past in a flash.
Happy 5th anniversary! They won't have an anniversary concert this year but I still hope that both ATEEZ and ATINY stay happy and healthy, and most of all, calm and not toxic.

October Time!
It's that time of year. I love Halloween, I love ATEEZ and their debuts, and I love the coolish (okay not really) temperatures we get in Australia.
One thing I do every year is join Polished Man - the Australian charity that Hongjoong and the rest of the group have represented in the past.
Anyway, here is my page this year; https://polishedman.com/ateez-atiny-crew
The charity works to raise awareness for and prevent violence against children and women. I, and the many people it helps, would greatly appreciate any donations. It is for a great cause and in the name of ATEEZ, as you can see. Of course, don't feel the need to, especially if you don't have the disposable income to.
I'm just putting it out there and am grateful for whatever people can donate. In fact, I'll match whatever others donate, up to $100.
