Ooh boy this one is a woozie i thought about on my way home.

(Disclamer I know sentience and sapience are diferent things, but ill use them a little interchangeably 'cause besides sticks, mobs, and villagers, im also talking about the firefox icon, reuben, beeper and such that clearly have personalitys/emotions but not self-aware intelligence)

(ive used sentient so many times it doesnt look like a word anymore 😭)

How is sentience gained, in regard to digital beings?

If we consider it to be something that spreads, from one sentient being to not-yet-sentient-others (seen by: firefox and AIM (fought with Chosen One), almost every mob Red gets in contact with (and i note all those who keep behaving like a regular, minecrafty mob are those she interacts Less with (ie. Barely spends time with (the first bunnies he sprouted, spawner short, etc)), every villager ever, heck, we could take the case of Second "spreading" his sentience to the colour quartlet) what are the limits, the reason, the origin of it?

(if we do not abide by this. Headcanon, then? Do we consider the possibility of a diferent type of sentience, unique to icons/mobs/programs/others and impossible to be noticed by us??( I Hightly doubt it, thers not much room to consider a personality with a creeper whose only reaction to anything is explode if its close to a player) When would digital beings gain sentience, and if so why would they continue to move/react the way they do, as if without it? What line exists between sentience and their code/original programing, when and how does the former become stronger than the last? (if beings are sentient since their creation, what makes the color quartlet keep fighting in the same animation loop in stick.fight.com? What keeps the villagers from waving and emoting, etc? Sentience must be spreadable. Beings must not have been sentient before. The alternative (that contact with other sentient beings simply weakens the restrains on what was already there) is Far too cruel))

(But clearly, sticks are not the only "transmiters" of sentience: all the mobs in monster school were sentient long before Red ever apeared there. Was it herobrine? I doubt it (cause that implies he gathered various mobs (and in the process naturally imbueded them with sentience) for the sole purpose of creating a school for them and eeeehh that doesnt seem to make sense for it))

(Behond the meta sense (that this episode was a a cameo/reference to a known youtube series), would their existence (albeit uknown) on a beloved video(s) make it so they Are sentient?

In other words, if Animators are life bringers, does simply Observing as one, as a human, could the numerous views that serie received be the reason the monster school mobs Are sentient already?

(Ahhh but the witch.... And! In the speedrun short, all the enderman are clearly sentient.. mhmm idk. More food for thought then)

Is there sometimg about minecraft that makes it more.. self aware i guess? None of the bosses in AvLoL were sentient (i think. Been a hot minute since ive seen that one)

Can sentience be a one (or two or three) time thing? (That sounds terrifying ngl) The firefox icon has 'gained sentience' at least 3 times (2 fighting Chosen and 1 requesting pets from Red), but overall remains still and unreactable on their icon at all other times. How? What promps it to interact and move and Be? What promps it to Not?

(Also. Things more easy to humanize/more similar in some way to humans get 'sentienced' more, it seems (stick figures, clippy, villagers, etc (naturally, thats cause its easier/more intuitive to animate personality/reactions to a icon fox or a enderman than an icon trashcan or a fish, duh, but) could we assume a worldbuilding reason? Is there a easier to harder scale in regards of gaining sentience, with stickfigures on one side and icon music disk on the other?)

I feel like this is all over the place and incoherent i may have to come back and rewrite it

So. Color coded stick figures. On medium without color. Thats gonna be easy to figure out (sarcasm)

I fricking love Animation versus animator (and minecraft), so. Have some barebone designs for now (ill definitly change them eventually, sometime in the future)

(Mhmm Blue vame out with more witch/alchemist stance than i wanted (i was stricking (in my head lol i definitly failed this part) for a more farmer and alchimist look)

Also the height are inconsistent with how i headcanon them... And Yellow and Green came out thiner than i wanted....)

Im constantly thinking about the like. Aclimatization period c!alan must have had over Second and the colour quartlet.

(and what being "raised" by/with an Animator (and one with c!alans past) would mean for the color quintlet behavior/life view wise)

Like. Second's existence, (specifically them talking to him (and as such, showing their sapience) in a way he really cant denie with plausurable ignorance (like with victim, Chosen and Dark)(and god there was so many signs, so many ways c!alan could have snapped out of it (the 'ignorance') but doing so would subconciously mean he would have to come to terms with what he has Done and he was never in a position that required him to do it so he didnt (plus he wasnt very. Mature? In the beguining i think. Teenage. Anyway)) (something something we quantify animal's inteligence with how well they showcase it in a way similar to us) really was c!alan's first case of having to actually comprehend that he brought a Person to life, and coexist with it (them. them not it)

Like. That shift, from thoughtless cruelty to (a big break in anything stickfigure related to) helper and friend? That would have not been easy or seamless, i think.

(and depending on if c!alan has taken the time to comprehend + processes what he Did to Real People in the past, he would be more or less bound to fall into familiar thought processes, if never actions)

He must take its (their) opinion into consideration now. Take its (their) time with the color quartlet into consideration, Its (their) enjoyment of the art process. Give it (them) breaks, regarde them with agency, be a friend to them

Of course with the time + experience theyre truly friends, i think. Their bond is very equal and playfull in the shorts where he appears

And all of this in just c!alans side!

Ive not even talked about Second and the colour quartlet into all of this, how their perception of autority and self-expression and conflict resolution and how the world works and how relationships works and Everything would be all but Based on themselves and c!alan behaviour! Theyve only ever known the computer and its habitants (until the discovery of sentinent (probably sapient too) life forms with minecraft (the villagers, piglins..))

(Their actions and perception of the world must be so so diferent and weird to a born/outernet-raised stick)

How does bondary-setting works, with something with so much control over you?

(on that vain, how much control c!alan thinks he has over the colour quintlet/gang vs how much control the colour quintlet thinks c!alan has over them vs how much control a born/outernet-raised stick thinks c!alan has over the colour quintlet is Vastly Diferent on all sides (and the conflict(?) diferences in perspective(?) Of that is so so delicious why hasnt anyone done aything with that yet))

The colour quintlet had very specific/hard rules over their existance/place in the computer (rules that have been getting laxer and less important/respected as time goes on (the light saber, and the lava parkour are good examples of harm being done to the computer, Actually). But how? When did the rules started being trespassed and met with Not-Animator Consequences, was it just the development of their bond (c!alan and the colour gang), that led to the rules being discarded? (theyre tottaly relaxed around alan. They trust him and playfight with him. (he deleted/attempted to delete them! Their first interaction was with c!alan's total dismissal of their life, how did they colectivelly reached this point!?)) What (life) lessons did they (color gang) learn on the way to now that are not normal/shared with born sticks cause of their way way diferent uprising?! (Aahhhhhh this keeps me up at night)

(i am maybe giving Too much importance to their relationship with c!alan, they most probably have learnt/lived most things solely by/with themselves as a group)

Okay so. General worldbuilding

When a skykid falls, they harden a clay-like shell around their Light. And in places where they fuse (generally in joints, to help with agility) they create what we call an assembly line. Once fallen, these lines fade until they completly disapeer.

A skykid's form only completly stabilizes itself when they gain their wings/cape (the way for the Inner Light to regulate itself/interact with the ambient trough the hard shell).

Now. The prosperous, or pros, are skykids that have began estabilishing their own base form, deviant from the 'moth look'. This is achieved trough (mainly) the help of their chosen masks, that help mold and change their clay shell to match it

It takes a lot of reborns to slowly manipulate one's own form, but its an natural and mainly unconscient process

*shanting* PLASTRONS PLASTRONS PLASTRONS

Starting with Leo, sliders can actually have little blue swirls on their plastron so you bet he also gets that. He also gets the more traditional looking plastron

And Mickey is the only one of the bros who keeps the canon look, with him being a box turtle with a hinge on their plastron. They can move the topmost part of her plaston inwards to close herself off

As a shoftshell, Donnie's plastron is rather short and doesnt cover their front completly (they only have 3 sections of scutes, as oposed to their brother's 4). Donnie actually doesnt have true scutes, as they are covered by skin. His plastron is almost entirely cartilaginous, with his scutes being made of a-queratin and not b-queratin (a-queratin is what our nails are made of, b-queratin is what claws and beaks (and shells) are made of). It still offers more protection than merely squishy skin, but not as much as his brothers.

Raph keeps his spikes, of course. Still a sorta traditional plastron, but i also wanted to showcase a bit her square/diamont shape language. Shes a stronk boy!
