MSM Higher Ed Launches Preparation Course for Study Abroad Students - M Square Media
College Preparation Course for  Study Abroad StudentsInternationalizing HEIs
In keeping with its vision of delivering high-quality education and university pathways to students, MSM Higher Ed’s Prep School has announced the launch of Global Awareness and Study Skills (GASS). This course prepares students for studying abroad and boosts higher education institutions’ pre-departure services in the post-COVID-19 environment.
MSM Higher Ed Prep offers a genuine global pathway designed for all students from all countries regardless of their study destination. It builds students’ global awareness and study skills, preparing them for an enjoyable, smooth transition and successful educational experience abroad.
The course features seven key modules featuring topics, including pre-departure planning, arrival planning, social and cultural awareness, part-time employment preparation, effective study skills and academic integrity along with destination institution content. GASS may be tailored to an HEI’s requirements through workshops, presentations, assigned reading, or video viewing.
“What distinguishes MSM Higher Ed Prep is its online accessibility, customized and well-aligned with a student’s desired college or university track in any part of the world,” said Donna Hooker, MSM Higher Ed President. “We are immensely excited how this initiative showcases our goals of offering education management solutions that transform lives and communities, including for students who plan to study abroad and the institutions that receive them.”
The program is delivered in modules and made available on MSM Higher Ed’s learning management platform. Students apply the content using research, reading and writing skills as they build their study abroad portfolio.
Institution-specific modules can be delivered via video conferencing or in-person workshops, as supported by the institution’s existing body of video and reading resources.
“Too often students arrive in their host country without a full understanding of where they are going, what they will study, and what is expected of them. Higher Ed Prep assures institutions that incoming students are confident in their transition to a new country, able to integrate into the community, and well-equipped to balance their study, social, and employment plans,” Hooker said.
She added: “A preparatory course also assures their family that they are safe, knowledgeable, and ready to meet the challenges of studying abroad.”
Besides better preparing students for their journey ahead, Higher Ed Prep enables institutions to achieve global reach and consistency in pre-departure orientation delivery while sparing them the often-significant expense of conducting pre-departure orientations in international students’ home countries.
Since 2012, MSM has been providing pre-departure orientation services to students and parents on behalf of its partner institutions. These briefings are a key feature of its global and in-country offices that promises increased international enrollment via dedicated recruitment and local representation in targeted student markets.
Through Higher Ed Prep, HEIs can standardize student preparation and distill it into a single course, and  focus their incoming orientations on their unique campus offerings and student services.
It is “only through a global lens” that higher education will flourish, noted Hooker, pointing to the role of international partnerships in creating innovative higher education solutions. One such solution is the MSM Higher Ed Pathways that will be delivered in multiple countries, making it possible for students to begin their studies near home and graduate from recognized institutions in Canada, United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand.

MSM HIGHER ED, COLLEGE MANAGEMENT DIVISION OF MSM GROUP, LAUNCHES ADVISORY BOARD - M Square Media
In keeping with its vision of delivering high-quality programs and university pathways to students, MSM Higher Ed has announced the launch of its own Advisory Board, a move expected to boost the organization’s industry presence and growth  plans in the post COVID-19 higher education sector.
As a segment of the globally positioned MSM Group, MSM Higher Ed offers topnotch academic, vocational, and English language programs, and prepares students to pursue their desired careers or progress onto the world’s leading universities. MSM Higher Ed effectively manages private learning institutions through smart strategies such as financial investment, providing a steady stream of international students, articulation agreements, joint program delivery, and public-private partnerships (PPPs).
The new MSM Higher Ed Advisory Board is composed of Ken Burt, former President of Coast Mountain College; Arthur Coren, Professor Emeritus and former President and Vice Chancellor of University Canada West; Stephen Murgatroyd, Former CEO of UK consulting company Lifeskills International Ltd.; Jean Sprague, Founding Member and Instructor of Alberta Foundation for Administrative Justice; M.J. Whitemarsh, Director of the Technical Education and Career Council and former Governor of the British Columbia Institute of Technology; and Raynie Wood, Dean for the School of Information and Communications Technology at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.
“The members of this Board were hand-picked for their unrivalled contributions to higher education,” said Donna Hooker, MSM Higher Ed President. “We are immensely excited over how they can bring us closer to our goals of offering education management solutions that transform lives and communities, including Canadian students and international learners.”
With this forward step in leadership, MSM Higher Ed is renewed in its drive to ensure student success via well-managed, globally exposed, and diverse learning institutions and programs of study.
It is “only through a global lens” will higher education flourish, said Wood, pointing to the role of international partnerships in creating innovative higher education solutions. One example is an MSM Higher Ed school giving its Vancouver-based students direct entry to an in-demand bachelor’s degree from a US-based university – thanks to a university pathway agreed between the institutions.
Higher education everywhere faces a wealth of challenges, mainly the raging COVID-19 pandemic. Competition remains tight, according to Whitemarsh. “Students have many institutional options, so choice, cost, housing, transportation, attracting teachers with experiential learning, and a level playing field for funding are just a few multifaceted challenges,” she said.
“It’s an opportune time for building reputation, maintaining rigor, and highlighting the accomplishments of successful graduates,” said Coren.
According to Burt, focusing on the needs of the students, faculty, and staff should be the biggest priorities of institutions facing tough decisions. In terms of recruitment, for instance, private institutions need to ensure that their programs are recognized by industry and relevant professional bodies, and effective student support services are in place, added Sprague.
Murgatroyd said of private institutions in the post-pandemic world: “They can show real leadership by thinking back from the future and creating new frameworks and learning designs that will meet the need to reskill and upskill a changed workforce.”

Leading Int’l Education Provider Launches B2B Student Recruitment Platform - M Square Media
M Square Media (MSM), a leading service provider in the international education sector, has launched a new student recruitment platform that connects colleges and universities to education agents and their students around the world.
MSM Unify offers thousands of study options to help agents find the best matches for their students while allowing higher education institutions (HEIs) to seamlessly market their on-campus and online programs.
“At a time of uncertainty, budget crunches, and challenges brought on by COVID-19, MSM Unify couldn’t come at a better time, helping institutions diversify and increase their student population as well as assisting agents in increasing their recruitment numbers, tough times or not. Our goal is to accelerate agent base growth while invigorating existing recruitment efforts,” Sanjay Laul, MSM CEO and Founder.
MSM Unify streamlines the student application process, offers easy access to school’s promotional materials, and helps agents manage their commissions, among many automated functions.
“We want to be true to our tagline: we make student recruitment easier, faster, simpler,” said Suneetha Qureshi, MSM Vice President for Global. “Agents can find the best match for their students with more institutional partnerships, while institutions now have powerful information to manage their recruiter network at their fingertips.
According to Qureshi, MSM Unify’s recruitment tools enable anything from automation to analytics to occur on a single platform – increasing the potential of agents, for instance, to increase the speed of their recruitment efforts by up to 10 times.
The Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) powers the B2B recruitment activities between agents and institutions on MSM Unify. In its future iteration, the platform will offer mobile apps for international education, including for students’ safe arrival in their host country, international students’ starter kit, and premium automation of agent invoicing.
“Not only does MSM Unify show our organisation’s growth and the maturity of our technology, but it also gives the recruitment marketplace the luxury of choice: schools and agents can get rid of burdensome offline processes, and students can better navigate their study abroad journey,” Laul added.
The agent portal of MSM Unify launched on August 18 with a virtual launch event on the same date, where 1,500 agents from more than 35 countries registered.
The launch involved a walk-through of the agent portal, which features a dedicated dashboard showing institution and program profiles, a standard student applicant profile that can be submitted to multiple institutions, eligibility tests, and a view of commissions and invoices. The institution portal will be launched after a month.
MSM provides added incentives to its global/in-country office partners in its Global Marketing Office (GMO) model by providing a number of solutions on MSM Unify that are exclusive and completely tailored to their needs.
MSM builds global and in-country offices and manages agents on behalf of its partner HEIs. It has supported over 75,000 international students in pursuing their applications to colleges and universities in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe.

Yukon College Officially Becomes 1st University in the North of Canada - M Square Media
Yukon College is now officially a university, making it Canada’s first full-fledged university north of 60. Its university transition has been years in the making.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the Yukon institution’s new status on May 19. “As a cornerstone for this new step, our government has already provided $26 million for a new science building,” Trudeau shared.
Founded in 1983, Yukon University has been offering students a unique northern experience in the city of Whitehorse. It offers over 50 degree, diploma, certificate, trades and university preparation programs that focus on northern and Indigenous research, culture, and industry.
Since 2012, YukonU has been constantly researching and collaborating with government bodies and industry experts to help them achieve this milestone.
It has 13 campuses and notable programs that include Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Governance, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Science in Northern Environmental and Conservation Science in partnership with the University of Alberta, and Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Social Work in partnership with the University of Regina.
Representing a ‘Strong, Resilient North’
YukonU’s journey has been “one of constant evolution to meet the changing needs of [its] students and community” since 1963, according to Dr. Karen Barnes, Yukon University President and Vice Chancellor. The institution commits to continue meeting education and research needs, offer accessible pathways to learners, and build a strong, resilient north.
Currently, YukonU is working on its application to become a member of the Universities Canada.
“The evolution of Yukon College over the past 57 years has been nothing short of phenomenal and I am incredibly proud to see it take this historic step, becoming the first territorial university in Canada.” said Tracy-Anne McPhee, Canada’s Minister of Education, in a press release. “By building on its well-established history and expertise, Yukon University will bring even more opportunities to learners in Canada’s North, as well as to the many communities it serves.”
The institution is celebrating the launch with a renewed website name, a new logo, and refreshed social media presence. Though campuses may be closed due to the pandemic, they are still accepting online registrations for fall semester programs.
“YukonU’s logo design was inspired by a crocus. It’s a flower that blooms first in the Yukon after a long and cold winter to let us know the arrival of spring. It’s a small flower, but is very strong and beautiful,” said Yoshie Kumagae, Manager for International Education, in an email message.
MSM Partner Institution Since 2016
As a proud partner since 2016, MSM congratulates YukonU on this amazing milestone. We are excited to see ambitious new plans and developments that will unfold as the university continues to welcome and embrace more international students from around the world.
“MSM congratulates YukonU for this wonderful feat – another dream coming to life with hard work, constant collaboration, and the innovative spirit of their campus community. As a partner for life, MSM commits to being with YukonU every step of the way as it opens up the entire north to more students of the world and helps them become successful in life,” said Sanjay Laul, CEO and Founder of MSM.
MSM seeks to recruit international students to our partner institutions no matter where they are in Canada or the world, creating real market demand and promoting their programs and excellent student offerings.

UWE Bristol Banks on Post-Study Work Visa, Multiculturalism to Triple International Students from India and Nepal - M Square Media
Tumblr media
The University of the West England, a public university offering more than 500 undergraduate and postgraduate courses, seeks to triple the number of Indian and Nepalese international students on campus by establishing a new dedicated recruitment office in the region.
Eighty-three percent of the university’s population are domestic students, but the remaining 17 percent are a mix of foreign students from South East Asia, China, Africa and the Americas.
Now UWE Bristol aims to bring its learning culture to India and Nepal and reach more students by partnering with M Square Media (MSM), which will help establish its in-country presence and operate a dedicated team for focused recruitment and assistance in managing its agent relationships and critical admission processes.
“We are looking for balance in quality and quantity in our student recruitment. We want people to come and say they had the best experience studying at the university and the UK, and talk to their family and friends in India about it,” said Ray Priest, Professor and International Director for the Asia Pacific at UWE Bristol.
In February, the UWE Bristol delegation led by Prof. Priest and Sophie Turnbull, Head of International Office, gathered postsecondary education agents at agent networking summits held in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Kochi in India, as well as in Kathmandu in Nepal. Each event drew 80 to 100 agents working directly with students to help attain their study-abroad goals.
The university’s new initiative in South Asia is timed well with the UK post-study work visa, which will allow international students to stay in the country for up to two years after graduation in order to find work. The new visa rule will take effect for all foreign students starting their studies in autumn 2020 or later.
UWE Bristol highlights its track record of excellence in research, independent learning, soft skill development and innovation. The institution maintains a reputation for high employability among its international students, where the degrees are designed with work-related elements such as work placement programmes.
UWE Bristol ranks 11th in the UK for student satisfaction and Top 30 in the Guardian University Guide 2020, and is TEF Gold rated for Teaching Excellence.
“We are excited to replicate MSM’s success with Canadian colleges and universities to this part of the world, and bridge the gap between highly qualified Indian students and UK institutions,” said Sanjay Laul, CEO and Founder of MSM.
For UWE Bristol, the goal is not just to increase their enrolment numbers but to spread a culture of learning across geographical borders.
“The world is a very small place and everything is globally connected. Defeating ignorance by learning together and sharing cultures – you can’t put a value on that,” said Prof. Priest.

On Its Way to University Status, Red Deer College Launches Plan to Recruit More International Students - M Square Media
Tumblr media
In its transition to become a full-fledged university, Red Deer College (RDC) has started a plan to welcome more international students to its campus in Alberta, Canada.
RDC inked a new partnership with M Square Media (MSM), which will help establish its in-country presence and support its outreach and recruitment of international students from countries around the world, including India.
MSM is a leading provider supporting the international education sector with offices in 17 countries and a team of over 250 professionals in North America, UK, India, Africa, the Philippines, and other parts of the world. MSM has partnered with an extensive, well-trained network of 4,500 education agents to create results for its partner institutions.
“As RDC continues our bold journey to evolve to a polytechnic university, we are excited to also substantially grow our international student enrollment during the next few years. We are pleased to partner with MSM in this journey of building meaningful relationships with agents and future students who will recognize the valuable education people receive now and in our future as Red Deer University,” said RDC President Dr. Peter Nunoda.
The projected growth in RDC’s international student population – in a town with a little over 100,000 in population – is seen to contribute to its overall financial sustainability and allow it to continue offering a comprehensive range of programs.
International students are also seen to increase campus diversity, leading to more opportunities for innovation. More learners coming to the central Alberta region will have positive benefits from economic and cultural perspectives as they live, shop and participate in community activities, according to Dr. Nunoda.
RDC aims to offer international students not just a welcoming environment and state-of-the-art facilities in which to learn, live and play, but also strong links to the job market as it prioritizes employability in all its programs. Based on recent data, over 90% of its graduates consistently find jobs within six months of graduation.
Working with dozens of Canadian public colleges and universities in their internationalization efforts, MSM will assist RDC in its on-ground and online promotions in various countries as well as help RDC faculty and staff prepare for change.
“There will be a learning curve for everyone involved in RDC’s new roadmap. But it truly takes a village, reaching out to qualified students from halfway across the globe and helping them navigate the challenges involved in their study-abroad plans,” said MSM CEO and Founder Sanjay Laul.
RDC has created a faculty teaching and learning advisory group to institute additional supports for its faculty to successfully teach more diverse groups of students – including Indians, which are one of the top international student markets for Canadian institutions today.
Dr. Nunoda added: “Hand-in-hand with MSM, we look forward to engaging with partners in the government, human services agencies, and even other schools to make learners from around the world feel welcome and included in our local community.”
Towards becoming a full-fledged university. “We look forward to working with MSM to assist us in building meaningful relationships with agents and future students who will recognize the valuable education people receive now and in our future as Red Deer University,” says Red Deer College President Dr. Peter Nunoda.

MSM Welcomes Arlene Griffiths to International Advisory Board - M Square Media
Tumblr media
Arlene Griffiths has joined as the newest member of the MSM International Advisory Board, providing expertise as a business consultant and recruitment expert.
As AG Consultancy Cardiff Ltd. founder and director, Griffiths brings unmatched industry insight from 17 years as a professional in the  international education industry alongside experience in the consumer healthcare and sports sectors.
Griffiths served as the Head of the International Office at Cardiff University and represented Wales in the Education UK Partnership Board. In 2010, she also built and managed IDP Education UK before running its American counterpart in 2014.
As Advisory Board member, she looks forward to helping MSM make informed decisions in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Griffiths, the pandemic offers an opportunity for persevering higher education institutions (HEIs) to contribute to the world’s recovery from the health crisis. Preserving international study offerings is vital to empowering collaboration across global borders, such as for much-needed research in vaccine studies and to help economies bounce back.
Asked about managing budget cuts in the coming academic year, she said: “Budgets will need to be allocated into the areas where the best return is achieved. With travel capacity reduced, universities will need to embrace different approaches to international student recruitment.”
For the post-pandemic world, Griffiths stresses the necessity of a dedicated local presence in target countries for colleges and universities, such as the global and in-country office model offered by MSM, as well as implementing an effective remote learning experience.
“The International Advisory Board has gained a great edge with experts like Arlene on board to provide sound guidance,” said MSM CEO and Founder Sanjay Laul. “With insight like hers, we are better positioned to help partner institutions navigate the current and forthcoming challenges.”
Giffiths joins other members of the International Advisory Board, namely Cape Breton University (CBU) President, the Honorable David C. MSM-USA President Speaks at HEI’s 2nd Annual Presidents’ Conference in March - M Square Media
Tumblr media
February 24, 2020 – MSM, a leading global platform in the international education sector, will take part in the 2020 Higher Education Innovation’s (HEI) Second Annual Presidents’ Conference from March 19 to 20 in Waco, Texas, United States.
Dr. Alex Parnia, president of MSM US, will be among the speakers at this year’s conference, along with industry leaders and key personalities such as Dr. Mary Darden, HEI president; Hon. Chet Edwards, member of the U.S. Congress from 1991 to 2010 and Texas State Senate from 1983 to 1990; and Prof. Robert Darden, professor of journalism, public relations, and new media.
According to an HEI study, college and university presidents need new ideas and innovative concepts  to sustain their institutions.
“International recruitment can be a new revenue streams for the United States colleges and universities ,” said Dr. Parnia. “It also allows for the enhancement of overall diversity on campus  and sustainability.”
To address this topic and other similar issues, the HEI conference annually focuses on a specific theme. These themes allow participants to explore new trends, findings, or solutions in the field of higher education.
This year’s theme is Recreating the Future of Higher Education Via Proven Success. Participants will share best practices that could improve and strengthen their program offerings.
Expanding on his point on international marketing and recruitment, Dr. Parnia said: “It is not being done for various reasons. One is because of the lack of information. Two, it can be very expensive to venture into international space. Some institutions cannot afford to have 10 to 15 people traveling to different places to recruit students. This makes partnerships with the likes of MSM a highly feasible option.”
MSM’s proven track record in international student recruitment is one of its most profitable and successful outcomes. Its network of professional education agents works in high-growth markets. These include India, the Indian Subcontinent, Africa, China, the Philippines, Vietnam, Latin America, and Europe.
Dr. Parnia added: “We are excited to engage with more partners and professionals in international student recruitment. MSM is a relatively new entrant in the US market, so we want to go into the confidence-building process by establishing ties with various institutions.”
MSM has a track record of success in Canada, partnering with public colleges and universities in their bid to increase their international student base. Its roster of partners also includes some of the best-known institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Europe.
College and universities avail themselves of the company’s one-stop solutions that include global and in-country offices, agent management, lead generation, and more. These solutions support institutions of any type and size. MSM’s business model becomes an institution’s strategic internal business development and marketing partner.
Dr. Parnia pointed out that MSM can help leaders of higher education institutions explore new and immediate opportunities as they design new programs to attract students as well as work on creative budget and financial initiatives, and financial models they can sustain.
Prior to joining MSM, Dr. Parnia was the president of EC Higher Education, where he formed pathway partnerships with U.S. universities that are ranked in the top 200 by U.S. News and World Report. Previously, as president of Pacific Oaks College & Children’s School, he closed a deficit gap of $4 million within 24 months, increased revenue from $8 million to $22 million and grew the enrollment from 480 to 1,300 students all within three years. He has also served as provost of Nichols College, executive vice president of Cambridge College, and was a tenured faculty member.
