Have you been keeping up with the current Hellblazer: Dead In America run? If so, thoughts on it so far?

I HAVE BEENNNNN just haven’t read the latest thing yet because i got super busy.

but i HAVE really been enjoying it! i also loved the first run simon spurrier did, and own it lol. but it was really nice to hear that there was going to be MORE. when i tell you i was jumping up and down.

but yeah, i really think it’s great! beats most everything else that’s been done recently. i say give it a read :D

when i saw the original post i knew i had to give it a try, i tried to keep some of the smaller design elements such as the eyes and obviously the larger ones like the outfit, while using a slightly different angle and pose [i hope thats okay] and going for more early hellblazer fluffier hair. im so happy with how this ended up!

John Constantine would have cigarette burns. John Constantine would have scars. I also think that different magic type might effect appearance, so John could even have stuff like markings or gradients from the dark magic he uses.

that i agree with. i think john should have a lot of scarring, which in some stories he’s got scars over his eye and stuff like that, and i know earlier on i discussed him having off putting features, like eyes that don’t quite seem right and so forth, as a result of his magic.

i think it would be really cool to see all of these things on him, but especially in the comics, it seems they’re a bit too afraid to do that. at least, in main timeline dc- they want him to be a pretty boy, which sets this weird idea that scars aren’t pretty though i read justice league dark’s future state story? and he had a scar over his eye and i was like YIPPEE but.

it’s a rarity, but it does happen a few times throughout hellblazer. in my own personal opinion, i think it’s more accurate to the character to have him appear more rugged, but also with scars and things that might make someone look twice to make sure they saw that right.

Something that scratches my brain is that. Historically in folklore where I grew up, those magically inclined (who could see ghost and monsters) were born on a Saturday. John is born on a fucking Sunday,,, he’s so close.

oh that’s a pretty cool thing! i never knew that!

but yeah, that is very close. he missed it by a little bit. i wonder if it’s something they actually considered when making his character, or if it’s just coincidence?

in all seriousness though, i like when people come to talk to me about things. i love john as a character so much, so any excuse i get to talk about him, i probably will. it’s nice seeing that people want to talk to me about him, too. helps make it feel like such a fun place for me, and shows me that you guys like the conversations as well.
