❝ well,, i was about to grab a coffee, if you wanna tag along. ❞ they shrugged,, offering a sheepish grin. ❝ you should’ve said hey — i didn’t notice you! ❞ nudging her leg with their foot,, they jerked their head in the direction of the nearest shop — just across the road! the coffee sucked, but it’d at least keep them awake.

‘’Ooh, okay! Coffee! It makes me very jittery -- not that i’m not already jittery -- but like, i’m not. Anyways, its good for you. ‘’ She threw the bag of crumbs to the ground and giggled as they all dove down and began to devour the bread.

“Pigeons? Really?” Shiloh said raising an eyebrow at his older sister. “Since when did you think pigeons were cute? I thought you hated them. But-” He took a step towards her and reached into the bag of crumbs. “-if you’re here for the pigeons the I am too.” He concluded as he took a small step back, crumbs still in hand. 

‘’Um, excuse me, I can think pigeons are cute without having to notify you.’’ She stuck her tongue at him. She placed her purse on the ground and scooted over, patting the bench next to her. ‘’They have little beaks that I like.’’

  “Looking for you,” Daisy said, walking up to the bench. She held out one of the hot drinks she was holding for Cora and sipped at the other one. “How long have you been hanging out?”

‘’Looking for little ole’ me?’’ Cora said in the worst fake southern accent she could muster. She took the drink gladly and force a large sip down, cringing at the hot liquid as it burned her throat. ‘’I forgot it was hot,’’ she said slowly. She perked up at the sight of her beautiful girlfriend, standing in front of her. ‘’Just a few hours,’’ she shrugged.

“Literally everything carries germs. If they didn’t, we’d all be dead of some horrifically infectious disease by now. As long as you don’t, like, lick the pigeons, I’m pretty sure you’ll be fine on the germ front.” She laughed as the birds flocked to attack the bread crumbs, as if they’d never seen food before in their lives. “They probably wouldn’t do much except stand there and stare at each other.”

Cora laughed as she flipped her hair. ‘’Everything has germs? False! Not true! Nope, nope, nope. You, my dear, are cancelled! Officially!’’ She laughed before resting her chin on her hands, on the back of the park bench. ‘’My little brother likes to touch them. I have to tell him not to.’’ She smiled fondly. ‘’That’s the fun part! We don’t actually know if they’d fight or not.’’

They keep all the old, retired people company.” Susan tossed a piece of her sandwich to the ground and watched a pigeon divebomb it and carry it away with a cackle. “Eating lunch and people-watching. Trying to get some inspiration for my next project.”

’’Ew! I have no respect for sky-rats. They’re gross and carry germs. They only thing worse than them are the seagulls, but at least those are fun to chase around.’’ She sighed and dug around in her bag of bread crumbs before tossing them to the group of rampaging birds. ‘’Sometimes I wonder what it would be life if we made them cage fight.’’

Cora hadn’t expected any company, her robe and bunny slippers were a testament to that, but she was a patient woman who always had time for friends and the boy in front of her looked too nervous for her liking.  A slow cheerful grin made it’s way to her lips as she watched the boy in front of her. ‘‘It’s fine. I’ve got brownies in the oven if you’re interested?’‘ Michael was a year younger than her own brother Shiloh and she had never really spent as much time with Michael as she did with his sister, Daisy. She felt like she knew him from all the information Daisy had shared on their many outings. ‘‘Do you like movies? We can totally watch some movies. Or we can play some board games or whatever.’‘
