Hybristophilia is a paraphilia in which a person is sexually aroused by a partner who has committed a brutally violent crime.

This paraphilia is usually exhibited in women who take an interest in killers behind bars. It is speculated as to why these women take such an interest in those who have committed some of the worst crimes imaginable, but, as of right now, there is no known cause for the paraphilia.

Katherine Ramsland, a professor of forensic psychology at DeSales University, has collected some common answers she receives from women who exhibit this paraphilia. 

1. The woman believes she can change a serial killer for the better.

2. The woman is reminded of the young child inside the killer and feels the need to come to their aid.

3. The woman believes she can gain notoriety and further success from using this killer.

4. The woman has imagined a man behind bars to be “the perfect boyfriend.” She knows he can’t cheat, where he’ll be every hour of the day, and she knows he’s most likely got her on his mind.
