We currently work at a community/technical college and also experience the "some teachers here are great and we're not sure how others even got hired".

One of my work study students is in a medical program and one of their instructors is an anti-vaxxer.

H-how?

How are they allowed to teach?

There is at least one other instructor here who is an anti-vaxxer, but at least they aren't teaching in a medical program, I guess?

And then there are some of the trade instructors too who will just let their students say extremely racist/antisemitic/misogynistic/etc. shit in class as much as they want but then whimper and say "we didn't know it was happening 👉👈" when the issue gets brought to our EDI committee because they don't want to have to take any sort of cultural intelligence trainings.

On the grading is subjective: the worst paper I ever wrote got an A- because I agreed with the teacher's opinions. And when I say worst paper I mean I wrote it in about ten minutes after pulling a full all nighter procrastinating on it. The thing was unreadable. I forgot punctuation, misspelled everything, several sentences just abruptly turn into new ones. But because I said 'religion in politics bad' I got a 92%. The worst part is that it was supposed to be a critical thinking class, but if you disagreed with the teacher you'd get D's (I learned this the hard way by making the bold claim on homework that schizophrenia isn't caused by televisions)

I am my own being. I am carrying my own leash now. I am sorry that we can't be friends anymore, and I have to do what's best for all the fractals of me. Different mes felt different things for you and it was so confusing and disregulating for us. We felt like we had to walk on egg shells bc we didn't know which of us would do or say something that would upset you or make you uncomfortable. We couldn't take the not knowing when we would next do something wrong--the not knowing what was okay and what wasn't bc it felt like some things were okay for you to do/say to us, but if we reciprocated them they made you uncomfortable. And at the same time if we expressed discomfort with something you did/said to us, it felt like it was made into just another one of the things that's fucked up about us and our brain, that we were the one who was always needing to be both more tolerant and more restrained.

So we were existing just constantly braced for the next thing we were going to do wrong--and it was always us who was wrong. And there isn't a single one of me who can live like that. We're trying to heal and move on and have healthier relationships. I don't know that we're doing a good job of that yet, but we are learning a whole lot.

I am not, nor have I been okay since we last spoke, but we haven't been stagnant either and we will be okay eventually. Please give me the space to get there.

Finding other trans people attractive is a crucial part of reducing one's own struggles with dysphoria, I am not joking about this. Obviously it is not ever a bad thing to want physical changes to help get where you want in your transition, but, once you start to realise people built like you now can be beautiful or handsome or even enviable for what are usually considered transgender traits, it can go a long way towards helping you feel like those traits aren't so bad to have after all...
